ESATA Hard Drive Not Detected

Feb 22, 2011

I have a sata to esata adapter installed on my desktop but its not spinning up or working my hard drive. The hard drive has 3 ports

Usb to usb
Usb to dc power
Esata to esata

Over usb it works fine but when i use the esata and power cable the hard drive makes a constant ticking noise and isnt detected on windows. Ive double checked inside my motherboard that its plugged into my sata ll port not sata lll. It isnt detected at all by the computer even when i search for new hardware.

ESATA Drive Not Detected?

Jun 28, 2012

I plugged in my eSATA drive while CrystalDiskInfo was running and the computer froze. There was no way to regain control of the computer so I restarted. So now this eSATA drive is not recognized by the computer. The eSATA drive works in another computer. What's really weird is that another eSATA drive I have works in the computer where the crash happened.I've tried uninstalling all drivers (both hidden and visible) in Device Manager that relate to the drive.

External ESata Drive Stopped Being Detected?

Feb 26, 2011

I'm a bit kind of desperate now. I purchased a 2TB Western Digital Sata drive (WD20EARS) and an enclosure with USB2 and eSata interface (independent power supply).Everything was ok for almost 2 months till today it just suddenly stopped being detected at all.I wasn't doing anything in particular when this happened. I remember I restarted my laptop around the time this happened (I do not remember if it happened before or after this)When I attach it with the eSata cable, nothing happens. With USB, I hear the beep that "something" was attached but then again nothing. Nothing at all in Device Managre or Storage Management.

Why Won't External Hard Drive Work In IDE Mode Through ESATA

Dec 18, 2011

My motherboard is ASRock m3a770de. I built my machine 3 days ago. I have one Hiatchi 500gb internal HD, and one 1TB external HD.I am running Windows 7 x64 Ultimate Edition. After building my computer three days ago, I installed windows, and my external was not being detected through eSATA in the BIOS or in Windows "Probably need to install drivers" I said.So I put in the CD that came with my motherboard, and installed the AMD All in One Driver that was on it. Restarted, and hey, my external was showing up.Today, after installing SP1 (not sure if thats what did it), my ext hd was no longer showing up again. I reinstalled the driver on that CD. Now, I'm not sure if it even installed the first time, because it said it was currently uninstalled through the ATI catalyst installation program. But it didn't work this time. I'm not sure what got it to work the first time. But my eSATA drive was being read in IDE mode for three days. When trying to get it work the first time, I did plug it in via USB to see if it would work, maybe that had something to do with it working the first time?

Anyway, I changed my registry to start up in AHCI mode, and then went into my bios and changed my storage config to AHCI. Upon booting, windows would not load with my external HD turned on (anybody know why?), but loaded once I turned it off. Windows then installed AHCI drivers, and upon restarting, both hard drive, external and internal, were being detected as removal storage. Why can't I get my external HD to be read in IDE mode through eSATA? IT doesn't get read through the BIOS or Windows, even if i scan for new hardware.EDIT: sigh, now when I just went to reboot, it wouldn't load windows when my external hard drive was plugged in. Windows loaded when I unplugged it. Windows detected it when I plugged it back in.

Windows 7 WD ESATA Hard Drive Crash NTLDR Is Missing

Jan 13, 2012

Had a dual-boot system (Win 7 on drive 1, XP on drive 2) installed. Got an NTLDR is missing error on the primary WD drive on which Win 7 was installed. XP wouldn't boot either because the MBR is on the primary drive. So, I had to reinstall XP and all the software on the 2nd drive and test in original and another computer. Worked fine. When plugged into the motherboard, the Win 7 eSATA drive is not recognized by either of the 2 computers in the BIOS. It won't boot and I can't even look at the drive to see the contents - it's a non-entity as far as Windows is concerned. I plugged it into a Mac with an external eSATA to USB adapter and the Mac saw the drive but said that it was unreadable and asked if I wanted to format the drive. Since I thought I might want to try to recover files, I didn't. Anyway to see the contents of this drive with Windows and recover them or does it seem to be dead from the description?

ESATA To SATA Cable - HDD Not Detected

Jan 15, 2013

I'm trying to connect an internal, powered SATA HDD to the eSATA port on the back of my motherboard. To do this, I bought an eSATA to SATA cable.Unfortunately, no matter what I do, the drive is never detected, not even by the BIOS.So, I bought another cable. Same problem. Finally, I tried moving the drive and the cable to another computer. The HDD is not detected there either. So, either I am making the same mistake on both computers, or both cables are faulty..

I go into the bios, and on the bottom it has a disk drive, and a SATA drive. It recognizes that the sata drive is there, but when i go to start up it says no hard drive is detected. I have tried a few different sata ports and it is the exact same thing.

Hard Drive Not Detected

Aug 26, 2009

I've got an issue during post installation. One of my hard drive is never given a drive letter, but it does show up as a possible install drive during setup.

I always have to go into Drive Management and assign that drive a letter (and moving my DVD drive down a letter to keep the letters in order).

Under Drive Management the drive has the Properties (System, Active, Primary Partition), so I'm wondering if that is the issue.

Is there a way to change Drive Properties (if that is the case)?

having an issue with a brand new HD I bought. Right now Windows 7 will not detect the HD as a drive. It shows up in the BIOS correctly, but not in My Computer. It is in a Frankenstein setup: SATA connection into the SATA port on the MB (it is enabled and showing), with power from an external HD enclosure.I don't think that would affect it though, as it is just drawing power from a different PS.i did some digging and found it in the System Information under 'discs' instead of 'drives' like my original HD.[URL]...

Hard Drive Not Being Detected In BIOS

My hard drive, a WD Scorpio 200GB, is not being detected in bios. AHCI mode is enabled. When I go into the Advanced BIOS Features, all the master and slave configs are none; however, my SSD is recognized as I am on my computer right now using it. I tried every SATA Port, EVEN THE SATA PORT MY SSD IS INSTALLED ON, and it doesn't work; I tried 2 different cables and still no recognition; I tried 4 different hard drives and still no recognition, so it is not a problem with my motherboard, hard drives, or cables. What should I do? I have been trying to figure this out for 4 hours.

External Hard Drive Not Detected When Connected To PC

Oct 6, 2011

I recently purchased an Iomega 1TB external hard drive to back up my files from my Laptop (Toshiba satellite) because it has been constantly showing hard drive failure warnings and messages telling me to back up my files. When I connected the hard drive the first time, it worked fine and I was able to access it, but didn't use it for anything at the time. The next time I used it, however, the usual "New device" sound didn't play and the hard drive didn't show up in the file browser. I then looked up the issue to find that it is a common problem where the device hasn't been assigned a drive letter. I went to the Disk Manager to fix the issue but the device was not in the list of connected devices. The problem seems to be with my computer because it works fine on my brother's computer and has no issues.Additionally, I have been having problems with Windows Update being stuck on "Downloading 0%" and have had to use the system restore several times when getting stuck on an update message on startup. I think that this may be the cause of the problem (and yes, I have turned on the hard drive).

However, I can't access it, I can't save anything to it, or get anything from it, or even see the files on it.

Now, I have a mac and a pc, the drive said it could be used on both. So i first used it on the mac (and it works perfectly) but not on the pc. It there a share error maybe?

I am an editor and I was hoping to be able to easily move from my computer (mac) to my clients (pc).

Hard Drive Disk Is Not Detected In Laptop

Nov 6, 2012

My friend's laptop (Acer Aspire One 722 - Windows 7 x64) has been shut down after opening an email and Windows never started up again. When you attempt to start up the windows, it stays the black screen and says "No bootable Device Found"! I inserted Windows Live Disk and loaded it (Windows XP Mini - Golden Edition). When I went to "My Computer", it did not show any local drive. I went to "Disk Management" and in there, there was also no unallocated or allocated space. I even removed the HDD and plugged it back in. No thing happened. Then I removed the RAM card and inserted it back. Again, nothing happened! By the way, HDD had movements when laptop was on (I had removed the beneath panel).I inserted Windows 7 Disk to install a fresh Windows 7. But when you get to the part where it asks you to choose the partition to install the operating Sustem, it shows one unallocated drive with 0 (Zero) capacity! The options to Delete and format are disable. Only the option "New" is active and it gives you (0) bite to partition!

Install Issue - Hard Drive Not Detected

Dec 15, 2009

already posted about this issue in the Gigabyte section of the forums. Thought I'd post here for some more feedback, since the issue overlaps (admins please feel free to remove this thread if you think it's redundant).

Building my first computer, and I managed to get it running. I got the Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit ISO off Digital River and made a bootable USB flash drive. Computer powered up, I set it to boot off the USB drive, and install process started. However, when it prompted me to choose which drive to install Windows to, my hard drive did not show up.

I rebooted, set the hard drive to AHCI in the BIOS (native IDE by default), and tried to install the drivers from the Gigabyte website off a flash drive, and still nothing. I also updated the BIOS and tried again in both IDE and AHCI, but still didn't work. I ordered a new hard drive and will try again later, but I'm doubting it's the hard drive (no signs of mechanical failure).

No Boot Device Detected, But Hard Drive Still Works

Jan 10, 2013

I originally had been running windows XP on my desktop. About a month ago, I bought a new hard drive and installed Windows 7 Ultimate x64 on it. For the last month, I have been able to dual boot between Windows 7 and XP just fine.

When I tried to boot up my machine this morning, my computer no longer boots and have the following message on screen:

"Reboot and Select proper Boot Device or Insert Boot Media in selected Boot device and press a key"

I checked my BIOS and found that only my new hard drive and CD ROM are detected. I imagined that my old hard drive with Windows XP on it finally died. So I disconnected the old drive, but I am still getting the same issue. I have tried changing the boot order. I also tried booting with the Windows 7 setup CD and tried the repair tools. None of them recognizes the Windows 7 installed on my new hard drive. I started command prompt and was still able to see the contents of the new hard drive, with its WINDOWS directory and all my data/installed programs, so I believe the new hard drive still works. Is there anyway for me to fix this without having to reinstall Windows 7 again and lose all the data/programs I have? Does this have something to do with my XP not being bootable anymore?

OS: Windows 7 Ultimate x64
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-Z77X-UD3H
Harddrive: Seagate Barracuda 1TB 7200RPM 64MB SATA 6Gbps

Hard Drive Not Detected By BIOS Or Disk Management?

I'm currently using a Windows 7 PC built by a friend of mine, but starting yesterday, its been acting up. The problem is there used to be two hard drives I can access, Drive B and Drive C. When I boot up the computer, BIOS only detects Drive C (if I'm not mistaken), and Disk Managements as well. I realized this when all the programs whose targets are on that drive are all broken on the desktop. So Drive B doesn't show up anywhere at all.

Lots Of BSOD / Lock Ups Or Hard Drive Not Being Detected By BIOS

Apr 13, 2012

Lots of BSOD, lock ups, hard drive not being detected by bios, is it failing? Let me start by saying my PC is custom built, most parts are only a year old. The oldest parts are the harddrive (about 5 years) and the soundcard (about 7 years). I have never had major problems until now (a year after building it).

It all started with a blue screen.
KERNEL_DATA_INPAGE_ERROR
Reboot windows and it seems to start up fine, gets to the desktop and locks up.

Reboot windows and I get another blue screen.
BAD_SYSTEM_CONFIG_INFO

I try to start windows from the last good configuration. Error. Registry file failure. Cannot load hive file. I try booting from the windows cd and running a chkdsk. Hard drive starts making a buzzing sound. It gets to step 3 of 5 and stops. Failed to transfer logged messages. Status 50. Now the bios rarely even "sees" the drive. When I can get it to boot and see it, any attempt at diagnostics and repairs produces errors, locks up, or fails.

Is this a bad hard drive? I would hate to spend the money on a new one only to find it is a bad mobo or virus. How can I diagnose this? If it is a bad drive I would like to save what juice is left in it and try to recover a few files before it dies. Most of the important data has been backed up but I would like to try and get a few game save files if I can. But its not a disaster if the drive data is not recoverable.

Startup Repair Loop / Root Cause No Hard Drive Detected

Nov 11, 2012

My pc is a stock Asus G53SX-A1, no hardware changes. Yet it says the reason I got a blue screen was due to hardware changes. My computer froze and rebooted during a video game. So I have been experiencing the classic startup repair loop and I tried everything I could find on google without progress. When I try to the option to fix the problem automatically it says it wasn't able to help and tells me the root cause is because there is no hard drive detected, and that if a hard drive is installed it is not responding. I can't detect in command prompt, but somehow I can see contents of it through BIOS so its really odd. When I tried to reinstall windows it says it can't find a hard drive to install on and I need to insert a drivers disk so I can set up the hard drive to continue. So I put in my Asus drivers disk and yet it tells me there's no drivers detected. I looked at the Asus website and all the downloads they have available are the same as on that same drivers disk it said it couldn't find drivers on. So right now my main problem is my pc doesn't detect that I have a hard drive at all even though I do, the same one the pc came with. This laptop has worked fine for almost a year and this issue just came out of nowhere, so any ideas as to why my HD would suddenly disappear in my computers eyes?

Moving Files On / From External Hard Disk Using ESATA

I've bought a Toshiba STOR.E D10 Zwart 1,5TB so that I can use e-SATA to connect it to my laptop. I've got a HP Probook 6555b with Windows 7 64bits. When I use the USB connection (this hard disk has both USB an eSATA) all works fine, no problem at all. When I connect it with the eSATA cable I can find the external hard disc and brwose through the files that are on it. However when I try to move files from my laptop onto the hard disk (or the other way around) after about 10 seconds it slows down and stops half way copying. Next Windows Explorer is not responding.

If I try to access the drive in explorer it takes a few seconds after I click on the drive to show the contents, this does not happen if I click on my C: drive. Unpluged from port and windows loads fine. So i plug it in and windows makes the normal noise but nuthing shows up. Wait 7 mins a drive apears but will always cause page to stop responding. Usb still works fine jus rather esata due to larg files
