View 4 RepliesI have recently been bereft of the ability to write to standard CD/DVD drive or BluRay drive with any type of blank disc. I always use windows drag-and-drop. All automatic updates are installed.Every system tool test or troubleshooter says that the two devices are working properly. They can play pre-recorded material but I simply cannot get them to recognise blank media.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an eSATA drive that has stopped functioning properly. I was trying unsuccessfully to install some completely unrelated software when I noticed that my eSATA drive was presenting differently. Under My Computer it now said that the drive was empty and there were four drives that appeared that said "Removable Disk (G)", "Removable Disk (H)", "Removable Disk (I)", and "Removable Disk (J)". When I select my eSATA drive, it says 'folder empty'. When I select one of the removable disk drives it says "Please insert a disk into removable disk (?). Whenever I reboot the computer with the eSATA drive disconnected, all five disk drives go away. I don't remember changing any settings or anything like that. One thing is odd that in device manager, the eSATA drive comes up as a SCSI drive. The device manager shows it as "WDC WD10EADS-65M2B1 SCSI Disk Device", but it is actually a "WDC WD500F032".

All of my Removable Storage Devices (Flash drives, External HDD) do not work with my Windows 7. When I connect them, I hear the beeps but the device sometimes show up, sometimes not and sometimes they appear after a long interval. On accessing them, Windows tell me that I need to format the drive. Well, I can't do that. It's happening with all of my removable devices, not just one. They work fine with my laptop which is Windows 7 too,

The Right-hand mouse click no longer shows the normal options. This situation applies irrespective of which mouse I use. I just have one major problem that has been bothering me. I dont know whether its a bug or just a noob mistake on my part but I am unable to see any drives whatsoever in the "computer" folder. I have tried disabling/enabling the "Show empty drives" thing but to no avail.
It would be great if someone could help me out with this issue.
In the screen shot, C, E, and F are legit volumes/drives. I have no idea what this Local Disk 'Q' is. I try to open it, says not accessible (and it shouldnt be because it doesnt exist)
Also, Removable Storage, I have 1 DVD drive, the rest G - L are bogus. One of those is listed as a BD-ROM which I dont have either.
Why are these listed when they dont exist?
I had a computer built for me that includes a new 1TB drive running Windows 7 64-bit for the OS and I would like to move over the drives from my old computer to be used as storage drives. Here's my questions:
1. I have a 750GB drive from my old computer that was running the OS after installing it what is the procedure to reformat it for a storage drive?
2. I also have a 500GB drive from my old computer that was being used as a storage after installing it will my backed up files still be intact or could Windows somehow delete those files?
3. Since my old computer still has a Windows 7 license tied to it I might put in an old drive, load Windows, and either sell it cheap or give it away. When you load Windows with the intention of someone else being the End User do you just quit the install a certain point along the way?

View 8 Replies View RelatedI have switched CPUs in order to upgrade my system, but I have copied over all the important files from my old computer. The current CPU was used by my dad before me and worked perfectly. It runs on Windows 7. However, since unplugging the tower and moving it back to my room, it no longer recognizes any of my CD/DVD drives. They are both functioning, turning on and opening and closing, but they are not listed under COMPUTER. I have tried several fixes on this site including merging my registry with a file on Notepad and running a program called cdgone but it still doesn't work. When my computer boots up I go to a screen with F2 that allows me to view my system. The drivers are listed as off but when I switch them over the computer will not let me. [code]

View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently completed my first build within the last two weeks. After tinkering with everything for a while I decided to pull my HDD out of my old Dell and use that as a backup.
I then got to thinking about how it might be useful to install Windows on each hard drive and use whichever one I want for whatever I want to do with the computer. IE: One HDD will be only for games and the other HDD will be for everything else I want to do. I've done a few searches and found conflicting results. To add to this problem I returned my Gygabyte MOBO for a different model. I know I will have to reformat my current HDD that Windows is installed on. So here is the twist.
When I get the new MOBO hooked up I want to use my old Dell HDD as my primary HDD because it is bigger. Since Microsoft thinks Windows is installed on the other HDD and different MOBO what will happen with I install it on a new HDD and new MOBO? It would be essentially the same as installing it on a different computer which is obviously not something Microsoft wants happening. How is this done?
Now, given that I get that to work can I then disconnect my primary HDD and plug in my second HDD, boot from disc and install all over again. I have no problem going back and forth disconnecting and connecting which HDD I want to use when i boot up if I cannot have them both hooked up to the MOBO, but I assume I can and will just choose which to boot from in BIOS. I do not plan on moving data between the two drives as I will use an external HDD for any data backup that I might need.
I can not select my boot up drive anymore from my two hard drives, two OS pc. Both drives are SATA drive, but one of them appears as IDE in Bios. What is going on here?
View 1 Replies View RelatedAfter searching this forum and googling everything I could think of, I still can not find a solution.
I have a Compaq Presario V2000 (Yeah I know, probably not the best machine for Windows 7) and any type of USB drive I put into a USB port will not show up in My Computer but it does show up in Device Manager and Disk Management. However, my iPhone will connect just fine.
I have checked all the drivers and they are up to date. I went to the Western Digital (my non accessible External Hard Drive) site and there were no new drivers for the drive. I un installed all of the USB Root Hubs and then re installed them. I have basically tried everything thing that I found after googling.
