I've tracked the problem down to a driver - CTMMount.sys which was installed by a recent installation of Comodo Time Machine - which has since been uninstalled but doesnt look like the uninstallation has worked correctly.
Therefore I could do with editing the registry/startup procedure so that this file doesnt attempt to load and then I can get back into Windows 7

Mar 24, 2011All of my Removable Storage Devices (Flash drives, External HDD) do not work with my Windows 7. When I connect them, I hear the beeps but the device sometimes show up, sometimes not and sometimes they appear after a long interval. On accessing them, Windows tell me that I need to format the drive. Well, I can't do that. It's happening with all of my removable devices, not just one. Jan 31, 2012I have an eSATA drive that has stopped functioning properly. I was trying unsuccessfully to install some completely unrelated software when I noticed that my eSATA drive was presenting differently. Under My Computer it now said that the drive was empty and there were four drives that appeared that said "Removable Disk (G)", "Removable Disk (H)", "Removable Disk (I)", and "Removable Disk (J)". When I select my eSATA drive, it says 'folder empty'. When I select one of the removable disk drives it says "Please insert a disk into removable disk (?). Whenever I reboot the computer with the eSATA drive disconnected, all five disk drives go away. I don't remember changing any settings or anything like that. One thing is odd that in device manager, the eSATA drive comes up as a SCSI drive. The device manager shows it as "WDC WD10EADS-65M2B1 SCSI Disk Device", but it is actually a "WDC WD500F032".

Sep 6, 2011I'm trying to fix my girlfriend's Windows 7 laptop after she had a virus/malware infection. I'm pretty sure we've successfully cleared the virus (an updated/full scan with Malwarebyte's Anti-Malware in safe mode comes up clean). However, we have had no Internet access since the infection. The wireless router/connection itself is fine (I connect to it daily with my laptop, as I am to write this post) but her laptop won't connect to it, we can't browse any web pages.I may have made the problem worse in trying to resolve it. I stupidly followed the advice on a forum for some registry edits for Windows XP--deleting WinSock and WinSock2 from the registry and then restarting the computer in hopes they'd re-register themselves. Unfortunately, WinSock2 re-appeared but WinSock did not. I'm wondering if this has created a new problem (or compounded the problems we were already having).In diagnostics, we currently get the following report: "Wireless Network Connection doesn't have a valid IP configuration." I just ran an ipconfig in the command prompt and got the following results:

Windows 7 Asking For Permission Or Saying Do Not Have Permission To Make Changes
Jul 28, 2011A wire came loose in my laptop charger so I asked for a replacement, but the supplier was adamant that there was something wrong with the port in my laptop, not the charger (he was wrong), so they took it away to fix. Anyway, a member of their staff took my hard drive out to copy a couple of my files to a disk for me as I needed them asap and couldn't get my laptop charging. Apparently that's all they did.Today I got my laptop back and things are not right. I am the administrator and there are no other user accounts on my computer. I am recognised as the administrator when I go on Control PanelAll Control Panel ItemsUser Accounts. But now all of a sudden I can't access Music, Pictures, Videos or Documents from the start menu. It just does nothing and says nothing when I click on them. I went on 'Computer' and tried to access them from the 'Libraries' menu at the left side. It didn't let me and didn't come up with any error message. It also didn't let me see the properties of them or do any of the other right-click options. It was saying at the bottom that they were completely empty, so I just deleted them and thought I'd make new ones with the 'Create Library' option. But when I go on this it says "Unable to create the file 'New Library.library-ms' Access is denied". I tried to restore the four Libraries from my recycle bin. It came up with a message saying "You'll need to provide administrator permission to move this folder". I clicked on continue, then a box popped up saying "Destination Folder Access Denied. You need permission to perform this action". Permission off who?! It's MY computer!
When I located my files the long way (Computer - Windows (C:) - Users ... etc.), all my documents were read-only and had a padlock on their icons, so I changed that. It won't let me view my pictures (says I don't have the correct permissions to access the file location). I can copy and paste the pictures so that it will let me view the copies, but it says things like "You'll need to provide administrator permission to copy this file" for everything I try to do. It gives me the option to continue, but it's annoying me because I have to keep giving permission for things that it should just let me do.

(I already read and understood your message: don't use those tools and stay out of your registry. A lesson I learned too late, unfortunately.)My computer rebooted and after a couple of minutes I noticed the message: " failure configuring windows features reverting changes ". I managed to bypass this loop by running in safe mode and recover my computer to a restore point in the past. This only worked partially: I get windows to run in normal mode but I get this message: "system failed while restoring the registry from the restore point. Restore point damaged or was deleted during restore". So it didn't restore but I can get into my windows now.So I don't get the 'reverting change loop' anymore, so I can access my computer but what's the mess? Well my computer is slow as hell.Like mentioned above, I already looked around on this forum and wrote down what I already tried. [code] My computer is terrible slow because of a registry defrag/optimization of a registry tool (in combination with windows update) --> I need to find a way to get back my old registry files but system recovery ain't working.

May 22, 2011i am trying to create a new site in dreamweaver. the site will have a coldfusion extension (.cfm). i am the only user on my notebook so i have complete administrator privileges. however, when i try to save the site in the c:inetpubwwwroot folder (because that's where coldfusion applications are saved) i always get an error.the error says: "you don't have permission to save to this location. contact the administrator to obtain permission" i thought i was the administrator? i am unable to change the settings in the security tab in the properties panel either. that is the extent of my troubleshooting capabilities.

Upon contacting my manufacturer (Origin) about the problem, they told me that it was my SSD firmware most likely. After researching I confirmed this myself. Boatloads of people have had this same issue with the older firmware, which I have.Updating should solve all my issues. But PROBLEM : My secondary hard drive does not have a compatible partition style for installing Windows (it has a different style because it's a very large HDD) and I can't get remote assistance on the issue due to my ethernet port being broken. I can't send in my system either because I'm currently living as an expat in China and sending things like this back and forth across the border is nearly impossible and not affordable. There are no Origin shops here in China and even if there were I wouldn't exactly trust it. The only place you can send a computer in is Origin HQ in Miami Florida, which I can't do.
