"you Don't Have Permission To Save To This Location. Contact The Administrator To Obtain Permission"
May 22, 2011
i am trying to create a new site in dreamweaver. the site will have a coldfusion extension (.cfm). i am the only user on my notebook so i have complete administrator privileges. however, when i try to save the site in the c:inetpubwwwroot folder (because that's where coldfusion applications are saved) i always get an error.the error says: "you don't have permission to save to this location. contact the administrator to obtain permission" i thought i was the administrator? i am unable to change the settings in the security tab in the properties panel either. that is the extent of my troubleshooting capabilities.

Not to long ago, I removed the HD from my laptop and slipped into an enclosure so that I could access information I had saved. When I initially did it all, I thought it was just a matter of connecting the enclosure to my tower and having it pop up like it would on a USB. Little did I know I needed to obtain permission and take ownership. After reading and searching for some time, I came across the below link, and followed the direction: You don't currently have permission to access this fold When I click on the folder and then properties, everything as it should be. I even followed the exact same steps provided in the below links as well, but to no avail:
- Change the permissions and take ownership of your files and folders | Windows Vista, XP and Windows 7 Tutorials
- I dont have the "correct permission" to access any of my - Microsoft Answers
- Windows 7 Take Ownership & Grant Permissions to Access Files & Folder
I don't know, and am at a lost right now. For example, when I click on a photo from my laptop HD, it states "Windows photo viewer can't open this picture because you don't have the correct permissions to access the file location."

I noticed in my Event Viewer that I have literally THOUSANDS of errors with source listed as DistributedCOM and event ID 10016. It logs an error event about 4 times per minute on this.
General info tab says:

A wire came loose in my laptop charger so I asked for a replacement, but the supplier was adamant that there was something wrong with the port in my laptop, not the charger (he was wrong), so they took it away to fix. Anyway, a member of their staff took my hard drive out to copy a couple of my files to a disk for me as I needed them asap and couldn't get my laptop charging. Apparently that's all they did.Today I got my laptop back and things are not right. I am the administrator and there are no other user accounts on my computer. I am recognised as the administrator when I go on Control PanelAll Control Panel ItemsUser Accounts. But now all of a sudden I can't access Music, Pictures, Videos or Documents from the start menu. It just does nothing and says nothing when I click on them. I went on 'Computer' and tried to access them from the 'Libraries' menu at the left side. It didn't let me and didn't come up with any error message. It also didn't let me see the properties of them or do any of the other right-click options. It was saying at the bottom that they were completely empty, so I just deleted them and thought I'd make new ones with the 'Create Library' option. But when I go on this it says "Unable to create the file 'New Library.library-ms' Access is denied". I tried to restore the four Libraries from my recycle bin. It came up with a message saying "You'll need to provide administrator permission to move this folder". I clicked on continue, then a box popped up saying "Destination Folder Access Denied. You need permission to perform this action". Permission off who?! It's MY computer!
When I located my files the long way (Computer - Windows (C:) - Users ... etc.), all my documents were read-only and had a padlock on their icons, so I changed that. It won't let me view my pictures (says I don't have the correct permissions to access the file location). I can copy and paste the pictures so that it will let me view the copies, but it says things like "You'll need to provide administrator permission to copy this file" for everything I try to do. It gives me the option to continue, but it's annoying me because I have to keep giving permission for things that it should just let me do.

I have 2 programs on two seperate computers where UAC comes up and asks me if I wish to run the programs. These programs do not require administrator rights (Truecrypt and iSpy) and the check beside "Run program as administrator" is not checked in either the shortcut or the actual executable file.

As far as I know I have full administrative privileges and UAC is off. I am the sole user and this is the only account. I tried to install a new version of VMware Stand Alone Converter. I right clicked and ran as administrator. It asked about removing old version and I checked OK. It runs and pops up a box at end with this fault:
Error 1326. Error getting file security:

I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit. This is the first software I've ever had a problem with. Is this a Windows problem or a VMware problem? Does VMware Workstation need admin privileges even though it's a separate program?

I am unable to access files on a drive on my computer due to a permission error. It reads "You do not have the correct permission to access this file location"It's hit quite some random files on my computer but none were important enough, and this folder full of important files.I've tried claiming ownership of the files and editing the permissions but to no avail.I've made sure the ownership and permissions are identical to those of a "healthy" file and folder but the problem persists.I am using windows 7?

On the Win 7 machine I have UAC set at "Never Notify".I tried to map the C: drive on the Win 7 PC as drive Z: on the XP machine (I can see the Win 7 drive on the win XP Machine ). but it says "access is denied" When I do it the other way around I can map the Win XP drive on the Win 7 machine with no problems, but there are some files it won't let me copy over. It says:"You need permission to perform this action""You require permission from the computer's administrator to make changes to this file"

Is there any way to set the default save location folder for downloads in IE8 to the last folder that the same file type was saved in? It makes no sense to default to a single folder and have to browse through to the desired folder for every single download, so I assume there has to be an option somewhere.

After 35 years of using windows products I have come across another one that leaves me in the dark. Maybe its old age (74). Can you help a senile old man?I am using Chrome and I want to listen to AOL radio. It plays awhile then I get a message that flashplayer has crashed. Flashplayer is enabled. This is a constant problem with Chrome. Pain in the butt.So I start up IE 9 thinking I will listen to AOL Radio. IE9 cannot find AOL Radio. In fact it says I am not connected to the internet. I am connected 24 hours a day and the MSN web page comes up before the message I'm not connected. So how could I not be connected to the internet? So, I decide I will try Firefox. Have not had it for a cupola years because of previous firefox problems. I download it from File Hippo with my Internet Download Manager.I open it, it extracts, then I get a message that says I may not have permission to run the program. It asks me to check one of two boxs. One with my user name or Administrator with a password. I don't have a password, but neither boxes work, no matter what I check. I am not allowed to run Firefox. Is there something new with Firefox that you have to have permission to run it?No. I do not have any bugs. I ran Avira & SuperAntispyware.I only use IE for updates. I use Chrome as primary browser. I am the only one that uses this computer.

For some reason my hard drive has gone nuts. It said on startup that there were bad files then proceeded to delete then restore. At the end it was removing some error security number and applying a new one to almost 50000 files. When it started back up the drive icon was gone and the square box with the little circles was in it. Then it stated I couldn't delete anything as the waste basket was in error. Fixed that manually and finally got the icon back. NOW the problem is any time I access a folder it says I don't have authority and then that damn little lock appears. I have tried the fix PER FOLDER but the whole drive is acting this way, even files that are NOT in folders state I don't have permission and then I go through the whole process and it fixes THAT file. I NEVER HAD THIS PROBLEM BEFORE NOR DO I HAVE IT ON ANY OTHER DRIVE.... IS there a way to enter the proper info in ONE TIME and have it globally apply to ALL the files on that hard drive?

The thing is, I'm the only user on this pc and I don't know how to get permission. I've tried to install it 3-4 times with same results but on a couple occasions it says I have wrong OS too. Do I need to start new thread on this problem or is it considered problem with Admin too

I've done this file sharing many times and have always gotten it to work one way or another ... that is until today. Here is my situation:
- Windows 7 home, 64 bit with network discovery and file sharing turned on and the 40/56 bit encryption selected (since one of my networked computers has winXP).
- I'm trying to share my whole F drive on the network. The owner of this drive in the advanced security settings is listed as "Paul" (my account - which is an administrator).
- I go to F: properties and select the sharing tab. It says "F: Shared". Clicking on advanced, I see that the "Share this folder" box is checked and if I click on the "Permissions" button I see that is has just one Group called "Everyone" and it has all three "allow" checkmarks (Full Control, Change, Read).
- I go to the "Security" tab and it shows "Everyone" with Full control. To make sure I click on "Advanced", "Permissions tab", "Change Permissions", highlight "Everyone", check the box that says "Replace all child object permissions ..." then click on "Edit". Then I make sure every checkmark is on "Allow" and click "OK".But then when I go to another computer on the network, I find that I can read all the folders of the F drive, but I can't write to any of them. I guess I must have missed at least one small detail, but I can't think of what. One last hail mary try, I changed the "LimitBlankPasswordUse" registry key to zero, something I used to have to do, but I don't think is required any more.

So I need to assign my permissions so that a user group can copy files into a shared folder, can only see the names of the files, but can`t open or edit any of the files in that folder, basically it should be able to list and write files but any reading whatsoever should be denied. Since list and read options are together and can`t be seperated in Windows 7
