View 4 RepliesI noticed in my Event Viewer that I have literally THOUSANDS of errors with source listed as DistributedCOM and event ID 10016. It logs an error event about 4 times per minute on this.
General info tab says:

A wire came loose in my laptop charger so I asked for a replacement, but the supplier was adamant that there was something wrong with the port in my laptop, not the charger (he was wrong), so they took it away to fix. Anyway, a member of their staff took my hard drive out to copy a couple of my files to a disk for me as I needed them asap and couldn't get my laptop charging. Apparently that's all they did.Today I got my laptop back and things are not right. I am the administrator and there are no other user accounts on my computer. I am recognised as the administrator when I go on Control PanelAll Control Panel ItemsUser Accounts. But now all of a sudden I can't access Music, Pictures, Videos or Documents from the start menu. It just does nothing and says nothing when I click on them. I went on 'Computer' and tried to access them from the 'Libraries' menu at the left side. It didn't let me and didn't come up with any error message. It also didn't let me see the properties of them or do any of the other right-click options. It was saying at the bottom that they were completely empty, so I just deleted them and thought I'd make new ones with the 'Create Library' option. But when I go on this it says "Unable to create the file 'New Library.library-ms' Access is denied". I tried to restore the four Libraries from my recycle bin. It came up with a message saying "You'll need to provide administrator permission to move this folder". I clicked on continue, then a box popped up saying "Destination Folder Access Denied. You need permission to perform this action". Permission off who?! It's MY computer!
When I located my files the long way (Computer - Windows (C:) - Users ... etc.), all my documents were read-only and had a padlock on their icons, so I changed that. It won't let me view my pictures (says I don't have the correct permissions to access the file location). I can copy and paste the pictures so that it will let me view the copies, but it says things like "You'll need to provide administrator permission to copy this file" for everything I try to do. It gives me the option to continue, but it's annoying me because I have to keep giving permission for things that it should just let me do.
I have 2 programs on two seperate computers where UAC comes up and asks me if I wish to run the programs. These programs do not require administrator rights (Truecrypt and iSpy) and the check beside "Run program as administrator" is not checked in either the shortcut or the actual executable file.
View 3 Replies View Relatedi am trying to create a new site in dreamweaver. the site will have a coldfusion extension (.cfm). i am the only user on my notebook so i have complete administrator privileges. however, when i try to save the site in the c:inetpubwwwroot folder (because that's where coldfusion applications are saved) i always get an error.the error says: "you don't have permission to save to this location. contact the administrator to obtain permission" i thought i was the administrator? i am unable to change the settings in the security tab in the properties panel either. that is the extent of my troubleshooting capabilities.

So I went into the properties and changed the sharing settings, to share with myself of course. I have only been able to give myself permissions in one of the folders. After doing this, it lets me begin deleting. It begins going through several screens informing that it is a shared folder, that deleting it will affect other users but it eventually comes back to the message that I need permission to get rid of something on myown computer!

I have two share folder in the desktop using Windows Vista HP 32 bit, Share A is set to Full Control for Everyone and Share B has a permission access setting, allow few persons to access only. All computer can access Share A without problem. However, there is a problem with Share B. I only allow 3 users to access this share folder, 2 of them using laptop with Windows XP Home and Professional, they can access Share B without problem, the 3rd user using laptop with Windows 7 HP 64 bit (username is Jolene) can't access Share B, it shown "You have no permission to access...". I already double check the user name and password, there are correct. I try to login to the network using Jolene in other laptop with Windows XP, it can access both Share A and B. That means the username and the permission setting are correct in the Windows Vista desktop. I removed the anti virus in Windows 7 HP laptop, disable Windows firewall, or bootup in Safe mode with network support, but still can't access Share B.

I got a message saying I need permission from Windows TrustedInstaller.Having googled for help on changing permissions, I tried, but the options are greyed out. If such trivial changes are blocked, then I imagine that there are other things I can't do either.Is there a way round this without upgrading (definitely would not consider) or switiching to Linux (would consider if necessary).

Kensington said download new "Setup.exe" file when that gave same error, they said not our problem go away. also tried run as admin - same problem!
Lenovo said software is not under warranty it will cost a lot of money to troubleshoot - call microsoft.

I got my new computer --Dell Inspiron 580 with Windows 7 professional 64 bit. I successfully transferred all of my files from the old computer to the new.But, when I try to access my Music folder or Videos folder, I get a pop-up stating "You don't currently have permission to access this folder". View 9 Replies View RelatedFor some reason my hard drive has gone nuts. It said on startup that there were bad files then proceeded to delete then restore. At the end it was removing some error security number and applying a new one to almost 50000 files. When it started back up the drive icon was gone and the square box with the little circles was in it. Then it stated I couldn't delete anything as the waste basket was in error. Fixed that manually and finally got the icon back. NOW the problem is any time I access a folder it says I don't have authority and then that damn little lock appears. I have tried the fix PER FOLDER but the whole drive is acting this way, even files that are NOT in folders state I don't have permission and then I go through the whole process and it fixes THAT file. I NEVER HAD THIS PROBLEM BEFORE NOR DO I HAVE IT ON ANY OTHER DRIVE.... IS there a way to enter the proper info in ONE TIME and have it globally apply to ALL the files on that hard drive?

When I initially did it all, I thought it was just a matter of connecting the enclosure to my tower and having it pop up like it would on a USB. I don't know, and am at a lost right now. For example, when I click on a photo from my laptop HD, it states "Windows photo viewer can't open this picture because you don't have the correct permissions to access the file location."
After I make a full system backup in Win 7 I move to the WindowsImageBackup directory. I try to move down the chain to the directory named after my computer. But when I try to move down the chain I get an "You do not have permission" message. I am an administrator and I am able to get around the message but I'm just wondering if there is something I can do to not make the message pop up each time.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've done this file sharing many times and have always gotten it to work one way or another ... that is until today. Here is my situation:
- Windows 7 home, 64 bit with network discovery and file sharing turned on and the 40/56 bit encryption selected (since one of my networked computers has winXP).
- I'm trying to share my whole F drive on the network. The owner of this drive in the advanced security settings is listed as "Paul" (my account - which is an administrator).
- I go to F: properties and select the sharing tab. It says "F: Shared". Clicking on advanced, I see that the "Share this folder" box is checked and if I click on the "Permissions" button I see that is has just one Group called "Everyone" and it has all three "allow" checkmarks (Full Control, Change, Read).
- I go to the "Security" tab and it shows "Everyone" with Full control. To make sure I click on "Advanced", "Permissions tab", "Change Permissions", highlight "Everyone", check the box that says "Replace all child object permissions ..." then click on "Edit". Then I make sure every checkmark is on "Allow" and click "OK".But then when I go to another computer on the network, I find that I can read all the folders of the F drive, but I can't write to any of them. I guess I must have missed at least one small detail, but I can't think of what.One last hail mary try, I changed the "LimitBlankPasswordUse" registry key to zero, something I used to have to do, but I don't think is required any more.
