View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently reformatted my hard drive so before I moved all the files I wanted to my external hard drive.
So I'm all formatted with Windows 7 Ultimate re-installed and I'm trying to move all the files back. For whatever reason, a couple pictures (.jpg) and a couple videos (.avi) will not move or open. They were all contained in the same folder.
It was saying access denied and I needed permission from S-1-5-....gigantic number. So I changed the ownership and permissions of the files and the folders. Now it says I need permission from myself (Laptop/Kevin). I am the only account and have administrator privileges.
This is my tb that I plugged into a friends work computer I shared some files with him after he left the job I received his computer I plug in my tb and it says I'm locked out that his login is the only person who has permission to access it but his login is gone so I can't login with his account and change nothing was password protected on it before. All my work documents are locked on this thing it won't let me add my login name and I don't have admin on this computer I'm hosed if I can't unlock it I have 2 packages that have to be turned in next week.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI know there have been a lot of tutorial/tips on how to deal with permission when you need to copy files on Windows 7. I have turned off UAC, take the ownership of the folder and all sub-folders/files ... but still I have not been able to copy quite a few files in one of my folder.
Windows 7 (Ultimate/64bit) pop up a warning box saying that I need a permission from myself to be able to copy those files. If I click Yes, it still won't happen.
I saved my files on desktop and when i shifted to window 7 64bit they were brought to windows old folder. my problem is those files wo'nt open and i have been asked for permission!

View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm having a strange problem in Windows 7. The problem is that basically, anytime I want to copy a file to the C: (OS partition), Windows asks me if I want to continue copying a file there (I am an administrator so I don't know why it should). Also, if I want to download a file to the C: partition, it won't allow me and it'll tell me I have to save it in my username folder, not in the C: root. According to the persmissions, administrators have full control but I'm still asked if I want to copy files.I've tried assigning users to have full control but I get a series of messages like "This file is currently in use, cannot set permission" and access denied for "Program files, Program Files (x86), Windows and C:".

Is this option completely eliminated or is there something I can do to retrieve this feature for Windows 7?

Whenever I view a folder which contains .MP4 (H264) video files in large icon view (shows thumbnails), Windows 7's Explorer crashes. Explorer loads for a few seconds, the green progress bar shows up, and then boom!, Explorer crashes. The thumbnails are not shown before crashing.I tried setting Folder options to 'Always show icons, never thumbnails' (disables thumbnails) on the same folder with MP4 (H264) video files and Explorer doesn't crash if the MP4 thumbnails aren't shown. I tried testing in other folders containing other video formats (with 'Always show icons, never thumbnails' set to off) like .AVI/Xvid, without an MP4/H264 file, and Windows Explorer shows the thumbnails fine without crashing.
I have not currently experienced problems with other formats, only MP4/H264. The only media players that I have installed are KMPlayer and VLC Media Player which both do not install external codecs, AFAIK. The only external codec I have installed is CoreAVC, but I have been using CoreAVC for months (KMPlayer+CoreAVC is one of the first things I installed in Windows 7) without any problems (this issue just arose a few days ago).I am using Windows 7 Ultimate, 32 bit.
A wire came loose in my laptop charger so I asked for a replacement, but the supplier was adamant that there was something wrong with the port in my laptop, not the charger (he was wrong), so they took it away to fix. Anyway, a member of their staff took my hard drive out to copy a couple of my files to a disk for me as I needed them asap and couldn't get my laptop charging. Apparently that's all they did.Today I got my laptop back and things are not right. I am the administrator and there are no other user accounts on my computer. I am recognised as the administrator when I go on Control PanelAll Control Panel ItemsUser Accounts. But now all of a sudden I can't access Music, Pictures, Videos or Documents from the start menu. It just does nothing and says nothing when I click on them. I went on 'Computer' and tried to access them from the 'Libraries' menu at the left side. It didn't let me and didn't come up with any error message. It also didn't let me see the properties of them or do any of the other right-click options. It was saying at the bottom that they were completely empty, so I just deleted them and thought I'd make new ones with the 'Create Library' option. But when I go on this it says "Unable to create the file 'New Library.library-ms' Access is denied". I tried to restore the four Libraries from my recycle bin. It came up with a message saying "You'll need to provide administrator permission to move this folder". I clicked on continue, then a box popped up saying "Destination Folder Access Denied. You need permission to perform this action". Permission off who?! It's MY computer!
When I located my files the long way (Computer - Windows (C:) - Users ... etc.), all my documents were read-only and had a padlock on their icons, so I changed that. It won't let me view my pictures (says I don't have the correct permissions to access the file location). I can copy and paste the pictures so that it will let me view the copies, but it says things like "You'll need to provide administrator permission to copy this file" for everything I try to do. It gives me the option to continue, but it's annoying me because I have to keep giving permission for things that it should just let me do.
I use Firefox to browse the internet and Google Chrome to view PDF files on my PC. I'm trying to send some pictures and I want to reduce the size of them as I send themI'm using Windows Photo Gallery. I open it. My device is listed on the left hand column and when I click to view it, all it will do is try to import all the 3000 pictures I have on there. I don't want to put them into this new computer as they take up a lot of space. So, I just want to send a couple of them in an email.Maybe in this new computer with 450 GB, it would be okay to import them? can click on photo email as an attachment, and it will give me an opportunity to change the size and put it in the email. That's good, but I can't get to the pictures on my usb drive.I've dug around and found that it will not read unless the drive is listed under: computer, hard drives, and that is something the manufacturer does.
