My OS is windows 7 I use a Freecom 500gb external drive and find that I am requested to seek permission from the administrator (myself I think) to delete some files that have many digit numbers and are empty.I find I cannot delete them there are about a dozen of them

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have been getting the following error (several in a day) when I try to rename files and/or folders via 'explorer.exe' GUI Now...this happens out of the blue so to speak and despite what the pop up widget says, the file or folder, in this case, was NOT opened in another process. In the above example, I was just trying to 'rename' the folder is all. I didn't even go into the folder at all.
The OS is Windows 7 64 Bit w/SP1 and 8GB DDR3.
The only things I can think of that might be causing the problem are the fact I have an 120GB OCZ Agility II SSD as my system drive with the following optimizations in place
OK, I was installing some x64 plugs yesterday and the default installer wasn't pointing to the right folder so i manually typed the correct pathc:Program filesSteinbergVST pluginsAll seemed to go well until I looked at my C drive, I now have two identical folders saying Program files.c:Program filesc:Program filesc:Program files (x86)I've changed permissions and taken full control and tried to delete the new one but it i get an error message saying the folder isn't empty.I've tried everything I can think of including safe mode etc but can't for the life of me delete this double folder.If I use the CMD line then it lists both folders with exactly the same name so I've no idea which one is the bogus one to try and delete from there.I tried system restore and still the two folders came back again!!The bogus folder is showing 0 file size and if I open it and try and open a folder inside i get an error message saying the file isn't in that location but I cant get rig of the bloody thin

When I tried deleting any of the files under F:Program Files however, it always came up with the same error :"You require permission from SYSTEM to make changes to this file" or"You require permission from ADMINISTRATOR to make changes to this file"Common sense led me to believe that it would be an active process that was behind all of this, but I'm not entirely sure what some of these folders even are; and one of the things I can't delete is a jpeg! It has no value and is completely usless but when I delete it it says I need permission from turbow5 to delete this. But I am turbow5. I am the admin and the only user on this comp. So the other day I had to fix a family members computer, its PSU had stoped workin, so I changed it to a PATA compatible PSU, from a SATA one, and changed our HDDs, expect my primary one that had Windows 7 installed on it. And installed Windows 7 on my secondary one, and put it in his computer. I was not able to format the disk I stole from him, so I gave the permission from trusted installed to me, but now I can't format it because "it's being used" although I cna't find anything on it that would be able to be used, and no windows open explorering it. So I tried deleting the folders in it manually, but I didn't have permission from Kiipas_computer/Kiipa (which is me) who I had given permission to.
I'd like to be able to format it, because it's faster. The things left on it is Windows (vista) and Program Files
I cannot install microsoft visual studio, although the installation don't give any error and finalize with message "successful installation" and I discover that exists folders that cannot be deleted and I suspect the installer can update the files.

I currently installed Adobe CS 6 (Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Illustrator and After effect) after installation suddenly there seems to be some problem with my Documents folder, I have attached a screenshot kindly view it.When I access "My Documents" folder the My Picture, My Music etc folders are hidden and whenever I try to open them I get an error permission denied but I can access them from the Libraries menu on the left.Also there is a thumbs.db file getting created, in every folder, even when I insert a pen drive this file is getting created in that too.After applying the option don't show hidden files, the files are hidden but after I reboot the hidden files are visible again.

So I'm all formatted with Windows 7 Ultimate re-installed and I'm trying to move all the files back. For whatever reason, a couple pictures (.jpg) and a couple videos (.avi) will not move or open. They were all contained in the same folder.
It was saying access denied and I needed permission from S-1-5-....gigantic number. So I changed the ownership and permissions of the files and the folders. Now it says I need permission from myself (Laptop/Kevin). I am the only account and have administrator privileges.
This is my tb that I plugged into a friends work computer I shared some files with him after he left the job I received his computer I plug in my tb and it says I'm locked out that his login is the only person who has permission to access it but his login is gone so I can't login with his account and change nothing was password protected on it before. All my work documents are locked on this thing it won't let me add my login name and I don't have admin on this computer I'm hosed if I can't unlock it I have 2 packages that have to be turned in next week.

I have turned off UAC, take the ownership of the folder and all sub-folders/files ... but still I have not been able to copy quite a few files in one of my folder.
Windows 7 (Ultimate/64bit) pop up a warning box saying that I need a permission from myself to be able to copy those files. If I click Yes, it still won't happen.

The problem is that basically, anytime I want to copy a file to the C: (OS partition), Windows asks me if I want to continue copying a file there (I am an administrator so I don't know why it should). Also, if I want to download a file to the C: partition, it won't allow me and it'll tell me I have to save it in my username folder, not in the C: root. According to the persmissions, administrators have full control but I'm still asked if I want to copy files.I've tried assigning users to have full control but I get a series of messages like "This file is currently in use, cannot set permission" and access denied for "Program files, Program Files (x86), Windows and C:".

View 2 Replies View RelatedIn my workings with Windows 7, I have come across a few folders that have been created by the system or and installation, they are all locked and are a number/letter combination type name. The first contains a copy of iesetup.exe dated 2/8/2009. The second contains an MPsigStub.exe dated 5/21/10, the third has an amd64 folder that shows up as empty, I didn't have show hidden files on. The fourth has another iesetup.exe same date, ie8.msu same date, a .dll same date and a eula.rtf dated 2/12/09. I do not believe that they are required but I have been wrong enough times to ask more learned and experienced people about it. May I safely delete them?
View 9 Replies View RelatedThrough some obvious fault of my own, and probably during one of two complete Windows 7 Ultimate reinstalls, I ended up with four of five folders within my �ProgramData� folder that appear to belong to another user. Since I am the only user on the system, and since Win 7 tells me that I need permission from myself to access these files, I was confused.Two of these folders had data from both Nero, and Nuance. Attempting to upgrade either of these applications failed, probably due the protected, or read-only, status of these folders. While I couldn't erase them, I was able to rename them. While that then cause both applications to fail, reinstalling these applications with straightforward, and I'm no longer locked out of these folders.
That just leaves the two folders that I renamed, and am unable to delete under any circumstances. I even tried booting the system under a standalone Linux, and any attempt to delete these folders failed there also. This situation is more of a net, or annoyance, then any major problem, but I would be happy to listen to anyone's ideas about how I might delete these folders.
As the attachements show, there are 7 Roxio/Sonic files[shared] in Ccleaner but I do not use Roxio or Sonic.There are also tons of Silverlight files in Ccleaner along with as many Activex/Com issue.Also, there are Ubuntu and VM files in Windows Explorer which I tried but thought I removed.>Question, can I remove them?I was trying to get Ccleaner to run out of a VM so I could delete all if there was trouble.s the best way to 'image' prior to running Ccleaner or is there a better way?If I restore the registry and there is trouble will system restore recover from the trouble?
