I know there have been a lot of tutorial/tips on how to deal with permission when you need to copy files on Windows 7. I have turned off UAC, take the ownership of the folder and all sub-folders/files ... but still I have not been able to copy quite a few files in one of my folder.
Windows 7 (Ultimate/64bit) pop up a warning box saying that I need a permission from myself to be able to copy those files. If I click Yes, it still won't happen.
I am running Windows 7 ultimate. I currently installed Adobe CS 6 (Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Illustrator and After effect) after installation suddenly there seems to be some problem with my Documents folder, I have attached a screenshot kindly view it.When I access "My Documents" folder the My Picture, My Music etc folders are hidden and whenever I try to open them I get an error permission denied but I can access them from the Libraries menu on the left.Also there is a thumbs.db file getting created, in every folder, even when I insert a pen drive this file is getting created in that too.After applying the option don't show hidden files, the files are hidden but after I reboot the hidden files are visible again.

The problem is that basically, anytime I want to copy a file to the C: (OS partition), Windows asks me if I want to continue copying a file there (I am an administrator so I don't know why it should). Also, if I want to download a file to the C: partition, it won't allow me and it'll tell me I have to save it in my username folder, not in the C: root. According to the persmissions, administrators have full control but I'm still asked if I want to copy files.I've tried assigning users to have full control but I get a series of messages like "This file is currently in use, cannot set permission" and access denied for "Program files, Program Files (x86), Windows and C:".
View 2 Replies View Relatedi installed windows 7 pro x64 recently. i'm in the process of copying my own old windows xp files, as well as copying the backed up windows xp files from my friend's installation that were in my old hard drive. i've been battling windows 7 with permissions left and right to copy the remaining files. i'm trying to delete my old windows installation folder. there's a file in sytem32 that's preventing me from deleting. i've established ownership, i've changed it so i have fullprivileges, i've changed it to enable sharing, disable sharing, i have UAC down to medium, still keep getting you need permissions and the try again message, and no matter how many times i click on try again it comes back up.
now this is also happening when trying to copy files from my friend's old installation to my portable hard drive. we're talking about movie files, folders, documents, etc. still keep getting permission requests and no matter how i go about it, it keeps asking again and again and the files never copy. i thought maybe if i renamed the documents and settings folder that i'm grabbing them from, but that made no difference.it is so difficult to enjoy this new windows when at every step there is some assinine feature like this!
I have a brand new install of Win 7, after which I tried to install a LINKSYS Wireless USB Adapter (WUSB300N) and during the copy files installation process I get ACCESS IS DENIED.and the process stops. I only have one id defined and it of course has admin authority, so I don't know what is wrong.

I have been a computer consultant for decades ans I have NEVER heard this simple, singular issue addressed with other than MS pros cattily pretending to explain it away in words that mean nothing to the rest of us.I have had to radically emasculate several networks of security issues in order to get beyond this absurd barrier to the transfer of files over even the most simplistic of networks The pompous and non-assistive pretentious BS that MS experts vomit all over the web only adds insult to injury.I have two computers, a desktop and a notebook. Both are running Win 7 Home Premium. They both can see and use the files on the other but I CANNOT COPY OR MOVE ANY FILES FROM ONE TO THE ANOTHER.I would be delighted to have someone tell me how I might accomplish that/ they are even empowered to include in their explanation what a complete idiot I am not to have known how to do that before now.Whip me. View 3 Replies View RelatedFrom somewhere, somehow, a folder named "24cd9e4542d29590bce925ec30" has been created in my W7x86pro root dir. Trying to look inside, I had to "permanently get access". But then inside it, there are a whole lot of folders named things like 1025, 1028, 1029, etc, ending with 3076, and 3082. What's in those folders, I have no idea, since every time I try to open one, I first get the "You don't currently have permission to access this folder" dialog, and then when I click Continue, I get "You have been denied permission to access this folder".
Also inside the "24cd9e4542d29590bce925ec30" folder, there are files, like "Setup.exe" and "NDP40-KB2473228.msp" and "SetupEngine.dll" and some *.bmp and some other files. I guess that NDP40-KB2473228.msp gives away that this folder has something to do with some .NET framework update, but AFAIK, there's no .NET-anything installed on this computer. I want to remove the "24cd9e4542d29590bce925ec30" folder, but there seems to be no way I can get permission to do that. trying to get ownership or set access rights, all I get is "Access denied" or similar.
1. What those folders and files are doing there?
2. How do I remove them?
I am unable to delete a folder form my external hard disk. It says permission denied. It requires permission of the administrator. I am logged in as an administrator. I did everything possible with the security. It just doesn't work.

AVG also picks up the file as a trojan. :S anyone able to shed some virtual light?

For whatever reason I simply cannot move a specific dll file, I then get the following message : "you require permissions from Everyone to make changes to this file" ==> it says "make changes" although all I want to do is copy and paste the dll file elsewhere...
So far, I've tried running the takeownership program, I've ran Registry Booster (who knows?), of course my user account settings are on "never notify me" AND YET I just can't copy/paste this dll file. I've got all the latest Win7 (64-bit) updates, AVG 9 AV+firewall (which I even turned off), I'm running an AMD Phenom II x4 3.00 Ghz, 4,00 GB RAM...and that's about it I guess.

I got a message saying I need permission from Windows TrustedInstaller.Having googled for help on changing permissions, I tried, but the options are greyed out. Since deny permissions take preference I now don't have the ability to remove this setting. Even when taking ownership and full control etc. My user and administrator still falls under everyone and therefore cant change the setting. However, when I'm now trying to access a folder in my (D hard drive I get "you have been denied permission to access this folder" I do know how to fix the problem folder and files each, but how can I fix this error for my hole (D hard drive? View 4 Replies View RelatedMy laptop is not letting me copy anything onto USB flash drives. I'm using windows 7. I have already tried system restore and uninstalling the drive in Device Manager and Disabling write protection in the registry but to no avail. I am able to format the pen drive and also access files on it and copy files from it. But I am not able to paste files from my laptop onto the pen drive. It says "Destination folder access denied" and "You need permission to perform this action". I am running an administrator account. Also I am able to do everything normally in the case of a external HDD but again face the problem when trying to paste something to SD cards. I have taken ownership, run as administrator and also tried to drag-drop but to no avail. This not for just 1 particular file/folder. I am not able to copy anything to the USB and at the same time I am able to copy anything to the external HDD.
View 4 Replies View RelatedHow can I get Windows 7 to name copied files using the scheme "Copy of" (used in Windows XP and earlier) instead of the default scheme "- Copy", whenever a file is copied to the same directory as the original file?In other words, if you copy a file named "Foo.txt" in a directory to the same directory, Windows XP would have named that file "Copy of Foo.txt", but Windows 7 names the file "Foo - Copy.txt". I want the copy to be named "Copy of Foo.txt".There are several reasons why I prefer the XP style file name:
1. It is familiar :-)
2. I have existing files that use the XP style file names, and I want all my file copies to use the same naming scheme. I guess I can do a massive file rename across all my backups, but that would solve only one of my problems.
3. Most of my folders are sorted by name, and using XP style would sort all copies together. On other forums it has been suggested that one can simply sort by date (to get the copies sorted together), but that advice assumes that all copies are created after all other files are created, which is actually not often the case.
4. I often work with long file names, which means that the end of the file name is often obscured, unless I have wide windows (not always possible) and use lots of horizontal scrolling every time I want to select a file. Hovering over a file to get its full name is a cumbersome solution.
5. On other forums some have given the advice to always make copies in subfolders, but I often make copies or copies of copies while I work (it allows me to roll back or to check earlier versions of a file quickly, during my work), and using subfolders would slow me down tremendously (not to mention confuse me).
I know that when TeraCopy is made the copy handler, it renames files in a different way than Windows 7 does, though unfortunately not the way Windows XP did it. Also, if one installs a third-party directory program such as Opus, it asks for a file name every time a copy is made, but I need something that simply names the file correctly immediately.
I am bashing my head and getting nowhere with windows 7....I have 3 users; a, b, and c (say)and administrator; z (say)when logged into z, I want to copy the folder of user 'a' but when I try to do this it comes up with ..."you'll need to provide administrator permission to copy this folder"But...whatever I try and do it will not allow me to copy the folder in question.

So I'm all formatted with Windows 7 Ultimate re-installed and I'm trying to move all the files back. For whatever reason, a couple pictures (.jpg) and a couple videos (.avi) will not move or open. They were all contained in the same folder.
It was saying access denied and I needed permission from S-1-5-....gigantic number. So I changed the ownership and permissions of the files and the folders. Now it says I need permission from myself (Laptop/Kevin). I am the only account and have administrator privileges.
This is my tb that I plugged into a friends work computer I shared some files with him after he left the job I received his computer I plug in my tb and it says I'm locked out that his login is the only person who has permission to access it but his login is gone so I can't login with his account and change nothing was password protected on it before. All my work documents are locked on this thing it won't let me add my login name and I don't have admin on this computer I'm hosed if I can't unlock it I have 2 packages that have to be turned in next week.
