View 1 Replies View Relatedi installed windows 7 pro x64 recently. i'm in the process of copying my own old windows xp files, as well as copying the backed up windows xp files from my friend's installation that were in my old hard drive. i've been battling windows 7 with permissions left and right to copy the remaining files. i'm trying to delete my old windows installation folder. there's a file in sytem32 that's preventing me from deleting. i've established ownership, i've changed it so i have fullprivileges, i've changed it to enable sharing, disable sharing, i have UAC down to medium, still keep getting you need permissions and the try again message, and no matter how many times i click on try again it comes back up.
now this is also happening when trying to copy files from my friend's old installation to my portable hard drive. we're talking about movie files, folders, documents, etc. still keep getting permission requests and no matter how i go about it, it keeps asking again and again and the files never copy. i thought maybe if i renamed the documents and settings folder that i'm grabbing them from, but that made no difference.it is so difficult to enjoy this new windows when at every step there is some assinine feature like this!
I have a brand new install of Win 7, after which I tried to install a LINKSYS Wireless USB Adapter (WUSB300N) and during the copy files installation process I get ACCESS IS DENIED.and the process stops. I only have one id defined and it of course has admin authority, so I don't know what is wrong.
View 6 Replies View RelatedMy laptop is not letting me copy anything onto USB flash drives. I'm using windows 7. I have already tried system restore and uninstalling the drive in Device Manager and Disabling write protection in the registry but to no avail. I am able to format the pen drive and also access files on it and copy files from it. But I am not able to paste files from my laptop onto the pen drive. It says "Destination folder access denied" and "You need permission to perform this action". I am running an administrator account. Also I am able to do everything normally in the case of a external HDD but again face the problem when trying to paste something to SD cards. I have taken ownership, run as administrator and also tried to drag-drop but to no avail. This not for just 1 particular file/folder. I am not able to copy anything to the USB and at the same time I am able to copy anything to the external HDD.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI am not very good with computers but today I got a blue screen and I have the DMP File right in front of me in the minidump folder under windows. I tried to upload it normally to this site to post my crash report but it says I don't have permission. I am the literal owner of this computer and there are no other accounts I no what I am doing pretty well expect for when it comes to stuff like this. I have winrar for my 64 bit Windows 7 Computer but when I try to arc it I get this WinRAR Diagnostic Message: Cannot Open (my DMP file) Access is denied.

I have an external HDD that contains data originaly created with a windows XP PC. When plugged into my Windows 7 PC, I cant seem to be able to save changes. E.g. if I dbl click on a .txt file to open it in notepad, make changes and then try to save it, notepad says 'access is denied'. Similarly for ultraEdit. If I launch UltraEdit selecting 'run as administrator' this solves the problem. But that doesnt help when opening files by dbl clicking on them. Under file properties, I have checked the files does not have a read-only attribute, and the Administrators group has full-control. I have changed the file-ownership to me. I am configured as an Administrator rather than a Standard-user. If I create a new file on this drive with the Windows 7 PC, I can save changes no bother.I have compared the file properties for the 2 files and the only difference I can spot is that the newly created file has me listed under the Security tab; whereas the old file only has group names listed.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a script on my laptop under my account which is an Administrator account. I double click the .bat file and it shuts down my remote server without any issue.
When I go into another account on my laptop, which was an regular user account, changed to an Administrator account, I double click on the .bat file and CMD comes and goes quickly with the "Access Denied" message.
I cannot figure it out for the life of me. The script is shutting down a Windows Server 2008 R2 computer. My simple script.
Quote:
@echo off
shutdown -m \192.168.0.8 -s -t 0 -f
tl;dr version:
Script to shut down server works on Account 1. Script gets "Access Denied" on Account 2.
I am running Windows 7 64 bit home. I have a program that does not give me a choice as to where it's printout goes. It just sends printout to the default printer. I want the output to go to a file. I used the printer setting feature to set up a FILE printer. As a printer choice I picked generic text and set it up as the default printer. When I send the printout from the program I am asked for a file name. I enter test.prn as the file name. Then I get an error message: Could not open the file. Access is denied.

I Get Access Denied..
I am working on a batch file that will copy down required updates to some software in "Program Files." (Using the XCOPY command). This works fine as long as it is on XP and the user is at least a Power User (ability to modify "Program Files" ). I understand about the Power User requirement, so about XP is not the problem. With Windows 7, however, when we try running the batch file, it gives us an "Access Denied" error. Even if the user is a domain admin it gives the same message. The only way to get around this is to right click on it and make it "Run as Administrator".Any ideas on how to make it run for a Power User? I don't believe that it would allow a Power User to run it under Run as Administrator, so am wondering if there is a way to make it do something like "Run as Power User."

View 3 Replies View RelatedOkay, a bit complicated here. Long story short (ha) I bestowed ownership and privileges to my specific user, renamed the original "radpppoe.sys" to "raspppoe_orig.sys" and replaced the 1st original with a Vista copy. It was supposed to stop an Ethernet connection error. Idk why it's so hard to set up an Ethernet connection on Win 7; I've done it before so easily on earlier versions, anyway. When I rebooted, Windows would SEEM to start normally until an errors shows "autochk program not found - skipping AUTOCHECK" and it restarts. The Start-up Repair didn't work, I have no restore point to fall back on, and the only other option wouldn't allow JUST my system files to be repaired (twas grayed out; probably cause i don't have a reinstall CD) and I don't want to lose my files. So I tried to delete the "radpppoe.sys" and rename the "radpppoe_orig.sys" back to "radpppoe.sys". I found the codes to do it online but I get the error "Access Denied". I thought that odd since I restored ownership and privileges to ME. I don't know how to change those security settings from the cmd prompt or if it's even feasible.
My last ditch effort COULD be to buy a 1TB drive and back up all my files then reinstall..

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'd like to put a .cmd file in my c:Documents and SettingsAll UsersStart MenuProgramsStartup directory, but Documents and Settings has a lock on it and tells me "Access denied" when I click on it. Is this a job for "Take Ownership" or is there another way? The instructions for "Take Ownership" say not to use it on the C drive, but it's not clear if that applies to the whole drive, or individual files/folders on it.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have one PC running Vista (home basic), one running XP (professional) and one running Windows 7 (home basic). There is a printer connected to the Vista box, which is shared.
On the XP box I can both see and use the printer on the Vista box (i.e. a "net view \vistabox" shows the printer, and under "printers and faxes" I can install and use it).
On the Windows 7 box, however, I can see the Vista box (i.e. a "net view" shows it in the list of available PCs on the network) but a "net view \vistabox" gives me an "access denied" error.
The Windows 7 machine has a password on it, the Vista and XP machines don't. All machines are on the same workgroup name (which is "WORKGROUP"). On the XP box I don't need a password to access the shared printer on the Vista machine; it just works.
Extensive Googling has failed to render enlightenment, nor has browsing this forum. I'm sure it has something to do with security and passwords, somewhere, somehow, but I have no idea in which direction to look for it, let alone fix it. I have also read some things about workgroups and homegroups not being the same in Windows 7, but I'm not sure if this is correct (and if so, relevant).
i kept security to c drive now i cant change it
View 1 Replies View RelatedI know there have been a lot of tutorial/tips on how to deal with permission when you need to copy files on Windows 7. I have turned off UAC, take the ownership of the folder and all sub-folders/files ... but still I have not been able to copy quite a few files in one of my folder.
Windows 7 (Ultimate/64bit) pop up a warning box saying that I need a permission from myself to be able to copy those files. If I click Yes, it still won't happen.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI haven't really had any issues since I first installed Windows 7 and now I'm trying to access a shared drive over a network and I'm getting this annoying error message that I cannot access a shared drive over the network.
I decided to reinstall Windows 7 and before that I never had this issue.
I have not installed any third party software, I've enabled network discovery and right now I cannot access any shared folders or drives, at all, though it can see it.
I'm getting that stupid error message: "<Network drive> is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of the server to find out if you have access permissions. Access is denied."
