Shutdown Batch File Access Denied

Nov 29, 2011

I have a script on my laptop under my account which is an Administrator account. I double click the .bat file and it shuts down my remote server without any issue.

When I go into another account on my laptop, which was an regular user account, changed to an Administrator account, I double click on the .bat file and CMD comes and goes quickly with the "Access Denied" message.

I cannot figure it out for the life of me. The script is shutting down a Windows Server 2008 R2 computer. My simple script.

Quote:
@echo off
shutdown -m \192.168.0.8 -s -t 0 -f
tl;dr version:
Script to shut down server works on Account 1. Script gets "Access Denied" on Account 2.

Batch File 'Access Denied' On Windows 7?

Nov 17, 2010

I am working on a batch file that will copy down required updates to some software in "Program Files." (Using the XCOPY command). This works fine as long as it is on XP and the user is at least a Power User (ability to modify "Program Files" ). I understand about the Power User requirement, so about XP is not the problem. With Windows 7, however, when we try running the batch file, it gives us an "Access Denied" error. Even if the user is a domain admin it gives the same message. The only way to get around this is to right click on it and make it "Run as Administrator".Any ideas on how to make it run for a Power User? I don't believe that it would allow a Power User to run it under Run as Administrator, so am wondering if there is a way to make it do something like "Run as Power User."

Access Is Denied When Saving File

Aug 16, 2010

I have an external HDD that contains data originaly created with a windows XP PC. When plugged into my Windows 7 PC, I cant seem to be able to save changes. E.g. if I dbl click on a .txt file to open it in notepad, make changes and then try to save it, notepad says 'access is denied'. Similarly for ultraEdit. If I launch UltraEdit selecting 'run as administrator' this solves the problem. But that doesnt help when opening files by dbl clicking on them. Under file properties, I have checked the files does not have a read-only attribute, and the Administrators group has full-control. I have changed the file-ownership to me. I am configured as an Administrator rather than a Standard-user. If I create a new file on this drive with the Windows 7 PC, I can save changes no bother.I have compared the file properties for the 2 files and the only difference I can spot is that the newly created file has me listed under the Security tab; whereas the old file only has group names listed.

Print To File Error - Access Denied

Mar 22, 2012

I am running Windows 7 64 bit home. I have a program that does not give me a choice as to where it's printout goes. It just sends printout to the default printer. I want the output to go to a file. I used the printer setting feature to set up a FILE printer. As a printer choice I picked generic text and set it up as the default printer. When I send the printout from the program I am asked for a file name. I enter test.prn as the file name. Then I get an error message: Could not open the file. Access is denied.

Create A Batch File That Runs 3 Other Batch Files

Jul 1, 2011

I am trying to create a batch file that runs 3 other batch files. Right now, it works fine using the call command on each other batch file. However, these other batch files take awhile to run. and so the entire process takes a very long time, since each "sub" batch file is run only after the previous one is finished.I was wondering if there is a command or way to start a batch file fro the top-level batch file, then go on and start the next batch file before the previous one is finished. In other words, I want the sub batch files to run in parallel in the background. (similar to the '&' in Unix).

Windows 7 Command Prompt DEL"file.ext" Access Denied

Apr 27, 2012

Okay, a bit complicated here. Long story short (ha) I bestowed ownership and privileges to my specific user, renamed the original "radpppoe.sys" to "raspppoe_orig.sys" and replaced the 1st original with a Vista copy. It was supposed to stop an Ethernet connection error. Idk why it's so hard to set up an Ethernet connection on Win 7; I've done it before so easily on earlier versions, anyway. When I rebooted, Windows would SEEM to start normally until an errors shows "autochk program not found - skipping AUTOCHECK" and it restarts. The Start-up Repair didn't work, I have no restore point to fall back on, and the only other option wouldn't allow JUST my system files to be repaired (twas grayed out; probably cause i don't have a reinstall CD) and I don't want to lose my files. So I tried to delete the "radpppoe.sys" and rename the "radpppoe_orig.sys" back to "radpppoe.sys". I found the codes to do it online but I get the error "Access Denied". I thought that odd since I restored ownership and privileges to ME. I don't know how to change those security settings from the cmd prompt or if it's even feasible.

My last ditch effort COULD be to buy a 1TB drive and back up all my files then reinstall..

Access Vista Shares From XP But Not From Windows 7 (access Denied)

Sep 20, 2011

I have one PC running Vista (home basic), one running XP (professional) and one running Windows 7 (home basic). There is a printer connected to the Vista box, which is shared.

On the XP box I can both see and use the printer on the Vista box (i.e. a "net view \vistabox" shows the printer, and under "printers and faxes" I can install and use it).

On the Windows 7 box, however, I can see the Vista box (i.e. a "net view" shows it in the list of available PCs on the network) but a "net view \vistabox" gives me an "access denied" error.

The Windows 7 machine has a password on it, the Vista and XP machines don't. All machines are on the same workgroup name (which is "WORKGROUP"). On the XP box I don't need a password to access the shared printer on the Vista machine; it just works.

Extensive Googling has failed to render enlightenment, nor has browsing this forum. I'm sure it has something to do with security and passwords, somewhere, somehow, but I have no idea in which direction to look for it, let alone fix it. I have also read some things about workgroups and homegroups not being the same in Windows 7, but I'm not sure if this is correct (and if so, relevant).

Access Is Denied - Cannot Access Shared Drives

Aug 31, 2009

I haven't really had any issues since I first installed Windows 7 and now I'm trying to access a shared drive over a network and I'm getting this annoying error message that I cannot access a shared drive over the network.

I decided to reinstall Windows 7 and before that I never had this issue.

I have not installed any third party software, I've enabled network discovery and right now I cannot access any shared folders or drives, at all, though it can see it.

I'm getting that stupid error message: "<Network drive> is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of the server to find out if you have access permissions. Access is denied."

What am I doing wrong here?
