Having Full Permission, But Failing To Delete Stuff From HDD
Jan 14, 2012
So the other day I had to fix a family members computer, its PSU had stoped workin, so I changed it to a PATA compatible PSU, from a SATA one, and changed our HDDs, expect my primary one that had Windows 7 installed on it. And installed Windows 7 on my secondary one, and put it in his computer. I was not able to format the disk I stole from him, so I gave the permission from trusted installed to me, but now I can't format it because "it's being used" although I cna't find anything on it that would be able to be used, and no windows open explorering it. So I tried deleting the folders in it manually, but I didn't have permission from Kiipas_computer/Kiipa (which is me) who I had given permission to.
I'd like to be able to format it, because it's faster. The things left on it is Windows (vista) and Program Files

i have big mindf*** going on here..i have 3 computers,
A - Windows 7 ultimate x64 (PC) (LAN connected)
B - Windows 7 professional x64 (laptop) (WLAN connected)
C - Windows 7 ultimate x32 (laptop) (WLAN connected)
Theyre all connected on the same HUAWEI B260a wireless gateway, and theyre all under the same workgroup and connected within a homegroup Standard shared public libraries (music, picture..) are visible and accessible for all of them with each other.PROBLEM is @ network location
1) when i access from computer A to comp's B hard drive partition its all ok but it cannot access shared partition on computer C (but its visible)
2) computer B cannot access either one of their partitions
3) computer C can access everything and all All of the HDs partitions are shared?
how can i share my PARTITIONS and make them accessible for each computer without having permission troubles?ive even assigned static ip adresses for each computer (though they comunicate with each other ok so it wasnt necessary to do that)ofc, partitions are shared, FWs are disabled, all of the necessary services are enabled, there are no AVs blocking traffic - but because of line under * stated above, nothing of this is actually important?

It has been a month now since installing Windows 7. Everything appears to be fine except this "access denied" errors on some of the files for certain users. I finally managed to turn on the hidden "administrator" feature in command prompt to unlock some. Aside from the design of users potentially "locking" themselves out of their own documents ( because of they are not logged in as an Admin, even though they have all admin privileges. I was going around in circles giving each other permission when the real admin was never enabled.
Now its effecting the programs and installation. For example, if Daddy logs on and try to install a program that requires a command prompt, I can't because I did not log in as an Admin. Now we have 3 separate users, each with their own documents, programs, and desktop settings.I want to delete all users and combine all the docs, programs, etc. Into one easy access and one user. No passwords, nothing. So as soon the computer boots up windows, it should ready to go, everything.

I have a 64 bit laptop. When I go to 'my computer' and OS appears under Hard Disk Drives, it says I have 25.3 GB free of 283 GB. I deleted a lot of images and folders and programs that I didn't need, I even deleted over 5,000 songs I've had but it's made no difference. I've gone through all the folders that I know of and into Uninstall and gotten rid of what I could. The bar is red and there is not much room left. How can I find things to delete to make this go down? It never used to be like this and I think it's messing with the performance majorly.

I just recently re-installed Windows 7 Ultimate, and I'm having that damn security issue "Destination Folder Access Denied" "You'll need to provide administrator permission to copy to this folder" and unable to save text files. I've been going at this for hours and hours, I can't find a fix I've tried editing Properties > Security > Advanced Permissions and Ownerships, don't work. I've tried the "Take Ownership" command. Still doesn't work. I've been through a few re-installs because I've just been hammering out as much as I can do.

This folder I have on my desktop is filled with pictures of xp and xp fails. (project I was doing). It has no value and is completely usless but when I delete it it says I need permission from turbow5 to delete this. But I am turbow5. I am the admin and the only user on this comp. So I look into the permission thing and system, turbow5, and admin all have full permission of this file. Why can't I delete this folder?

I have windows 7 on an AMD processor computer, it's a new computer with some upgrades. I'm trying to delete a folder on my external hard drive and it gives me this error message despite the fact that I am the administrator. You require permission from S-1-5-21-3908285926-3313324932-2694402914-1000 to make changes to this folder.

we have a computer at school that's being shared by young students, but they get a kick out of deleting files. they have a shared folder on a separate partition for all their activities. it's okay if they can open or even modify each other's files, but we just don't want them deleting anything. is there a user policy/security setting that can make this possible?

I noticed in my Event Viewer that I have literally THOUSANDS of errors with source listed as DistributedCOM and event ID 10016. It logs an error event about 4 times per minute on this.
General info tab says:
"The application-specific permission settings do not grant Local Activation permission for the COM Server application with CLSID
{0C0A3666-30C9-11D0-8F20-00805F2CD064}
and APPID
{9209B1A6-964A-11D0-9372-00A0C9034910}
to the user *********** SID (S-1-5-21-1873924993-3643908058-657741459-1122) from address LocalHost (Using LRPC). This security permission can be modified using the Component Services administrative tool."

A wire came loose in my laptop charger so I asked for a replacement, but the supplier was adamant that there was something wrong with the port in my laptop, not the charger (he was wrong), so they took it away to fix. Anyway, a member of their staff took my hard drive out to copy a couple of my files to a disk for me as I needed them asap and couldn't get my laptop charging. Apparently that's all they did.Today I got my laptop back and things are not right. I am the administrator and there are no other user accounts on my computer. I am recognised as the administrator when I go on Control PanelAll Control Panel ItemsUser Accounts. But now all of a sudden I can't access Music, Pictures, Videos or Documents from the start menu. It just does nothing and says nothing when I click on them. I went on 'Computer' and tried to access them from the 'Libraries' menu at the left side. It didn't let me and didn't come up with any error message. It also didn't let me see the properties of them or do any of the other right-click options. It was saying at the bottom that they were completely empty, so I just deleted them and thought I'd make new ones with the 'Create Library' option. But when I go on this it says "Unable to create the file 'New Library.library-ms' Access is denied". I tried to restore the four Libraries from my recycle bin. It came up with a message saying "You'll need to provide administrator permission to move this folder". I clicked on continue, then a box popped up saying "Destination Folder Access Denied. You need permission to perform this action". Permission off who?! It's MY computer!
When I located my files the long way (Computer - Windows (C:) - Users ... etc.), all my documents were read-only and had a padlock on their icons, so I changed that. It won't let me view my pictures (says I don't have the correct permissions to access the file location). I can copy and paste the pictures so that it will let me view the copies, but it says things like "You'll need to provide administrator permission to copy this file" for everything I try to do. It gives me the option to continue, but it's annoying me because I have to keep giving permission for things that it should just let me do.

I just got a new system with Win 7.I've been using XP since 2002 and I first used Windows in 1989 (version 2.11). The new computer is for my sole personal use.Because I dont need a nanny operating system I have turned UAC off. Being an adult I'll take full responsibility if I break something.Is there some way I can also turn off all this ACL stuff. I don't need it - its my computer, its my data, and I am the only person who uses the computer.If that means a reinstall then I can do that - I bought a Win 7 Pro 64bit licence. The only reasons I got 7 were symbolic links and libraries, but I'm wasting so much time jumping over needless security hurdles that I've yet to even look into them.I know all this stuff is relevant in a corporate environment - but this is my personal computer, its probably the last one I'll have - I dont need the hassle.

I asked their support the following: I want to take my Windows 7 Professional system and all installed applications and suites (Office 2010 H&S and CorelDRAW X5 included) all legit, registered, activated, updated, etc. and copy them so I can upgrade from a 5400 RPM hard disk to a new 7200 RPM hard disk in the same system. Can this program do all that, saving me the hassle of reinstalling, activating, registering, etc. the OS and applications and suites?Their answer: Yes, that's exactely (sic) what the software is for and what its same says (sic). You can copy your entire drive with your OS, programs and personal data.But today I went to their site again and found they have another app called Paragon Migrate OS to SSD 2.0, of which they say: Ready to upgrade to a new Solid State Drive (SSD)? Paragons Migrate OS to SSD is just what you need. Our handy intuitive wizard performs fast and safe Windows migrations to new storage devices (HDD or SSD) and even downsizes to smaller capacity drives. You can transfer a live system with no impact to your work, and have your partitions automatically aligned in the process if needed. Note that they say "migrations to new storage devices (HDD or SSD)".
My questions are:
- Does anyone here have experience with one of these apps or both?
- Considering my needs, is it OK if I purchase the less costly Migrate OS to SSD (but use it to copy to a new HD)?

My 3-year-old $300 Gateway desktop does not respond to the power switch which tests good. Rather than investing any more time or any money in this machine, I'm going to buy a new one.Can I just replace the new HD with the HD from the old PC so that it will be the boot drive?If not, is there a way to get everything from the old HD to the new one? (The new one will have Win 7 Home Premium. Can I install the Win 7 Ultimate that I had used on the Gateway on it?)

I turned my pc off for a couple of hours today and when I turned it back on everything was different! The desktop background is different (I think it reverted to blue-white bird puffs HP one), the icons are very small, Microsoft Word 2000 was gone, Google Chrome disappeared from lower tray! In addition, history disappeared from Firefox! (that is what I have noticed - so far). What is going on??I thought maybe that was some update but the most recent update was yesterday and was about MSecurity Essentials.I googled the problem and after I typed winword.exe- I found Microsoft Word, it sort of- reinstalled itself and now it looks a bit different.I went to Program FIles 86 to reinstall Microsoft Word shortcut on desktop, and it is there, however, it doesn't look like a Microsoft logo-as before, it looks like files .Also, all my documents were gone! So I did more "googling" and was able to find my MW docs this way: Computer-C-users-me-My Documents.However, I cannot access these documents through Microsoft Word any more! I can only find them through the above route.

I've been reading about win7 backup. It says that it wont back up program files, recycle bin and other things. I cant tell if these exclusions are only if windows chooses or also apply to when I choose. My question is: can I get win7 backup to backup everything on my C drive, and if so how do I proceed.
