Run Stuff With 'run As Admin' From 'Run' Box In Start Menu?
Feb 21, 2012
I decided to unistall the Search function from windows setup so it took out indexing, as no matter what I tired it always turned itself back on and started indexing crap again (even stuff I took out of its options etc.) Very annoying. But now that I don't have the Start Menu search box (like in step 7,) I wanted to know if there was a way to run stuff with the 'run as admin' from the 'Run' box in the start menu?

My user account has Admin priviledge but I can not search anything in my own folder...
Desktop>Libraries>Documents
Although I can search the same folder if I open up to the path...
Computer>Local Disk C>users>Ownerc>My Documents>
I tried making a whole new user with Admin authority. That new one had the same problem.

I found a registry script that creates an option on the windows explorer context menu that allows you to run a batch file. The program that I use within the batch file is producing an access denied error which I dont get if I run the batch file normally. I wondered if this was something to do with privileges. So is there maybe some way to adjust this regedit script so it runs the command prompt with more privileges?
Code: Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOTDirectoryshellBackupFolderLocally]
@="Backup Folder Locally"
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOTDirectoryshellBackupFolderLocallycommand]
@=""E:\User\tools\BackupFolderLocally.bat" "%1""

When I start up my computer, my Steam starts up, then I manually start Chrome. Chrome comes up fine, Steam does too, but when I try to right click on Steam and click friends, all it does is create another steam process running at 100-108 K. Then if I close Chrome and try to reopen it, it will do the same. This happens with EVERY program after I start up. There's a 5 second window where I can open programs without issue, then after that it will only start 108 K copies of them. It takes me around 30 restarts just to get it working properly, if not more.

2. How can I alter the sequence of the entries in the Start-menu? Now the sequence is in sequence of creation, I would like to group them by application-area.

Got software restore. Can't start from disc. Changed boot order, nothing. f8, f10, f12,got my no where. Won't start in safe mode. I don't have the options that the instructions with the discs say I should have. Here are my options:
1. IDE1: Pioneer DVD-RW DVRTD10RS
2. IDE0: WDC WD5000BPVT=22HX2T1
3. Network Boot: LEGACY PCI Device
1. Goes to eRecovery and just sticks there with a blue spinning wheel
2. Goes to f8 menu with no option for recovery or repair. When trying to start normally it goes to a blue screen with an error message that is gone to fast to read. Restarts
3. Goes to black screen with some unreadable stuff except for the word "failure". Restarts

I tried to reboot in safe mode but the pc became unresponsive. I also tried using the system restore disc but again nothing.

I am using a windows 7 Home prem. 64bit I want a computer with no administrator privilege. The start up screen should only show one standard account. There should be no other account to see when I start up the PC.
And when the standard account wants a admin privilege, a box should appear where I can type in the password.
What I tried was activating the default administrator account by "net user administrator /active:yes". After setting the password I deactivated the admin account inorder to hide it at the start up screen. But when the "standard account" wanted to use the admin privilege it asked for the password with no field to type it into. Apparently disabling the administrator account means; not able to use the admin password either. I had to restart the PC in "Safe Mode Command Prompt", go into the admin account, activate the admin account(net user administrator /active:yes), restart the PC and so on.....
Long story short; I don't want to have the admin account to be like "IN YOUR FACE" when ever the user "STARTS UP" this computer.

I booted my computer today, but when I click any program in my taskbar, or int the start menu, they dont open. In the task manager they are there, but their working set is only 40-90K. Some programs can be started from file->new process, with run as administrator checked, but I cant see any pattern to which will start. If a process doesnt start from task manager, it freezes task manager, and I need to open another the end it. If I start a program pinned to my taskbar nothing will happen: The icon will get the running program rectangle around it, then it will fade away. If I right click a program in the start menu, the start menu and taskbar freeze, and I need to restart them from the task manager. I can run cmd from task manager. Ive rebooted multiple times, defragmented the disk(that fixed it last time this happened, but it may have been a cooincidence), run chkdsk, but nothing works. To make it wierder, if I press the hotkeys on my keyboard (browser, mail, etc), the program will start up fine, even if it cant be launched from task manager(firefox)
EDIT: While I was typing this I was running sfc /scannow , and that fixed it, but Id still like to know why. This is the second time this has happened, and both times its taken me most of the day to fix it, and both time different things fixed it

Keyboard shortcuts are very important to my computer use, which brings up a small but annoying problem I've been having in Windows 7. In XP I was able to place a shortcut to a program or even to a particular file on my Start Menu. If I then renamed the shortcut on the start menu with a unique initial character, I could start a program or access a particular file simply by hitting the Start key and then an initial. For example, for my most common Microsoft Word file, I need only hit Start and then the letter x, and up pops my most commonly used file. In Windows 7 when I try this I am delayed while Windows performs some sort of search for items starting with an x. In a moment or two, it discovers there is only one such item, and it offers me this item in a list and I must hit enter to get the item to come up. The negative effect of this is still more pronounced when I start a new session and I know how want to open say three separate files/applications. In XP I can do this very quickly if the names I gave the shortcuts are unique. (And even if I have multiple items, say starting with the letter m, the Start men lets me essentially choose which m item I want by repeatedly hitting m. Very quickly, I learn that such and such file is: Start>mm>enter.) is there a way to tell the Window 7 Start Menu to behave like the XP Start Menu?

The Start menu contents is gone never to be seen again, I have checked every where. I believe this sorry excuse for malware has deleted it during the infection. I know other people have had the same issue, here is the latest topic on the subject start menu problem

I unfortunately used Perfect Uninstaller to remove SQL Server 2008 R2 and Visual Studio 2010. After reading the forum I know it was a mistake to use this as it probably infected me.I used Avast to locate the viruses on my HD and then removed them with their program. So, then I tried to re install the SQL Server and it installs successfully but when you go to the start menu, then click to expand the folder it says (empty) under the folderI also re installed Visual Studio 2010 which also completed successfully and when you click on that folder in the start menu, there are items there but they are shortcuts that look like documents (have the document icon), and you cant launch Visual Studio.I so do not want to reformat my hard drive for this to work.
I also ran the unhidefolders.exe from this site but it did not correct the problem.
Any one have any ideas how to fix this? These are the only two programs that are like this on my start menu, the others are fine and work correctly.

Since about Window 95 I've been able to right-click on the start menu and 'explore all users'. I use this to then go into the start menu for all users and organize the crap out of it into folders. In Windows 7, it's gone. OK, so I found where the start menu items are stored in: C:ProgramDataMicrosoftWindowsStart MenuPrograms, I can move items around to existing folders with 'administrator permission', I can create a new folder, but not rename it. There error I receive is something to the effect of 'The action can not be completed because the folder or file is open in another location'

After new Windows 7 installation I installed Family Safety Live on 2 of my computers (I have a 3 pack Windows 7 Home).Every since installing Family Safety, when I click on Start menu it stays up for 2 seconds and disappears, which disables me (Admin) and all users from being able to use it all together. It's becoming very annoying.Family safety does have Program protection enabled with specified programs.I'm also running Program control within Windows 7 itself.I think it has something to do with Family safety but I went thru all the options and I couldn't figure anything out. I wonder if Family safety has issues dealing with 2 PCs, but I did notice that in the settings it recognized both computers.

I've installed Windows 7 on my laptop and want to customize the Start Menu's All Programs window. I normally consolidate like programs/folders into one common folder to minimize the number of items on the All Program window (i.e. all Microsoft related items in one folder called something like Microsoft Programs). I can't seem to figure out how to do that in Windows 7.

I was wondering if anyone else has my problem. When I click on the start menu and then all programs, the list freezes while trying to load, but in actuality one of my dual cores goes to 100%, then the second one maxes out after a few seconds.
To get rid of it, I have to click somewhere on the desktop and try to open something else until it can somehow let the start menu minimize. I tried to search this problem in the forums, but I didn't come across anything. I also hope that this thread could be posted in this topic.
I am using the 7048 Build, downloading the 7057 one thinking it may solve my problem.
