I have plugged my old Seagate external hdd into my new Acer with Windows 7 64-bit Home Premium. I am trying to pull files on to the new computer. It says I don't have permission to access the folders. How do I go about getting that permission while it is plugged into the new computer?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have attached a Seagate 500 GG external hard drive to my computer but it is not showing up in My Computer.I have browsed similar threads and on their advice gone into Device Manager.The drive is there but with no letter assigned to it but when I right click to assign one, it refers me to Windows Help, which is unable to solve the problem. There are actually two extra ikons in Device Manager - one marked FAT Healthy (EISA Configuration) and the other just marked (GPT Protective Partition).The device is acknowledged as working properly in Device Manager.The files on this drive were created on a Mac, which may be the source of the problem? Most of them I will therefore not be able to read, but there is one which is a .mov file which I should be able to read and hopefully copy - if I can access it.Is there any way I can access the drive via my PC (Windows XP) or will the drive have been formatted for Mac only and therefore is inaccessible via PC?
View 3 Replies View RelatedThis is my tb that I plugged into a friends work computer I shared some files with him after he left the job I received his computer I plug in my tb and it says I'm locked out that his login is the only person who has permission to access it but his login is gone so I can't login with his account and change nothing was password protected on it before. All my work documents are locked on this thing it won't let me add my login name and I don't have admin on this computer I'm hosed if I can't unlock it I have 2 packages that have to be turned in next week.

After reimaging I tried to access some of the files I saved on my external hard drive, but no matter what I tried I could not get access to the files.The drive appears in device Manager and in the USB Device pages, and I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drive. But for some reason I just can't access the device.

The computer can tell that the drive is there but I cannot access anything on the drive and also cannot write to it. I have tried talking to tech support from Seagate and they said that since I have used a third party program that I need to contact them. It is difficult to get a response from them. View 7 Replies View RelatedI had a 2 TB, and 3TB Seagate Go HDs and decided they would be best used as internal drives, turns out they both crashed completely upon SATA connection in the motherboard, I first guessed probably due to the difference in boot record. Upon reformatting in NTFS, I have found that the drives run very sluggish, I have been debating on just buying a new USB drive and copying my files, then getting rid of these 2 HDs. This doesn't make sense to me as I used to think all HDs were the same, does anyone know any reason why these 2 external drives are killing my system performance after they were made into internal drives (also why would they completely crash before).

Similarly, I have on numerous occasion deleted files and done some cleaning-up (primarily 'My Documents') to no real success because they all come back after having attached my external.I do not perform a Back-up /or/ Sync anything. I simply connect my external via USB in order to locate a saved document already on the external from previous. This is all I do and at some point (not sure if it is after the next reboot or when exactly) but, all deleted docs reappear.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm wondering if anyone else has had the following issue with USB connected external drive and Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit:
When plugged in, the external drive is recognized by the OS, is accessible and in every aspect functions normally. After a period of non-use of the computer, e.g. 8 hours, the USB device gets knocked out. Logging back to Windows, and the 1st message will be "Unrecognized USB device", and the external drive is not visible anymore.
The only way to get the device back is to disconnect its power supply, and plug it back in.
I've done the following :
1) Changed the USB power settings of the OS. USB devices are not allowed to go to sleep
2) Changed the power setting from Seagate Manager to not allow the drive to go to sleep
3) Changed USB Legacy to Enabled on BIOS
I have a Seagate GoFlex Desk 3TB external hard drive. I got it about.. 6 months ago and I've never had a problem with it up until last week. I plugged it in and it started making a normal fan sound like is usually does, then after a few seconds it stopped which made it seem like it was shut off.

I reinstalled the vlc program and haven't seen that error message for awhile. I checked the hard drive with seagate and it is functioning properly.

I don't know, and am at a lost right now. For example, when I click on a photo from my laptop HD, it states "Windows photo viewer can't open this picture because you don't have the correct permissions to access the file location."
I have few computer at home with different Windows version, there are Windows XP, Windows Vista HP 32 bit and Windows 7 HP 64 bit. I have two share folder in the desktop using Windows Vista HP 32 bit, Share A is set to Full Control for Everyone and Share B has a permission access setting, allow few persons to access only. All computer can access Share A without problem. However, there is a problem with Share B. I only allow 3 users to access this share folder, 2 of them using laptop with Windows XP Home and Professional, they can access Share B without problem, the 3rd user using laptop with Windows 7 HP 64 bit (username is Jolene) can't access Share B, it shown "You have no permission to access...". I already double check the user name and password, there are correct. I try to login to the network using Jolene in other laptop with Windows XP, it can access both Share A and B. That means the username and the permission setting are correct in the Windows Vista desktop. I removed the anti virus in Windows 7 HP laptop, disable Windows firewall, or bootup in Safe mode with network support, but still can't access Share B.

View 2 Replies View RelatedFrom somewhere, somehow, a folder named "24cd9e4542d29590bce925ec30" has been created in my W7x86pro root dir. Trying to look inside, I had to "permanently get access". But then inside it, there are a whole lot of folders named things like 1025, 1028, 1029, etc, ending with 3076, and 3082. What's in those folders, I have no idea, since every time I try to open one, I first get the "You don't currently have permission to access this folder" dialog, and then when I click Continue, I get "You have been denied permission to access this folder".
Also inside the "24cd9e4542d29590bce925ec30" folder, there are files, like "Setup.exe" and "NDP40-KB2473228.msp" and "SetupEngine.dll" and some *.bmp and some other files. I guess that NDP40-KB2473228.msp gives away that this folder has something to do with some .NET framework update, but AFAIK, there's no .NET-anything installed on this computer. I want to remove the "24cd9e4542d29590bce925ec30" folder, but there seems to be no way I can get permission to do that. trying to get ownership or set access rights, all I get is "Access denied" or similar.
1. What those folders and files are doing there?
2. How do I remove them?
I am running lock down accounts on my machine for certain users and installing software done through Admin account.I need an advice, whether is there any tools that available to track specifically which folder or registry keys that needed access control in locked users profile. Thus i can give permission only for this components instead of unlocking un-neccessary folder structure.I notice there is Filemon & Regmon but this is not software specific.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently purchased a usb 3.0 enclosure from silverstone model ts07b and a new 2 tb drive from seagate model ST2000DM001; the usb 3.0 card is from syba model SD-PEX20093. The problem I am having is that when I plug the enclosure into the usb 3.0 slot with the seagate hdd the computer does not recognize it, but when I plug in another 2tb drive from WD (caviar green wd20ears) the computer recognizes it. I know the seagate is not dead because when I plug the enclosure into a usb 2.0 slot the computer recognizes it. Now I need to know what I should replace, should I get a new enclosure or pci card?
