Applications Dont Have Permission To Access Appdata Folder?

Jul 8, 2011

I ended up getting infected with some stupid virus and had to ultimately restore to a previous saved instance of my OS.Since then my Owner/administrator account seems to have problems running applications and applying the appropriate permissions. Any apps that use the C:UsersOwnerAppData folder no longer have permission to save files to this location and I cant for the life of me figure out how to fix it.

Access The Programs/appdata Folder?

Sep 10, 2012

I have this backup software (GENIE9) that doesn't work. The vendor tell me I have to deletesome files that are in C:users/programs/appdata. The problem is: even though I am the administrator, I cannot even view what is in that folder, much less delete any files withinit. The vendor (GENIE9) is totally clueless as to how to do this.Apparently the operating system has put some severe restrictions on this folder even for users that are administrators.

Trying To Access Old AppData Folder After Reinstall

Jan 11, 2013

I recently installed an SSD in my PC, and did a fresh install of Windows 7 in the process. I unplugged the HD with the existing install of Windows 7 during the installation process, and plugged it back in after. Now I'm trying to retrieve some settings for an app I had on my previous installation. But when I go to my old Windows 7 boot drive (now D: ) and try to access the AppData folder, it seems to be showing me the contents of my current AppData folder on C: instead. Is this what Windows does? If so, is there any way around it, so I can retrieve the application data that I'm after?

Display Hidden Folders / Files To Access An Appdata Folder

Feb 5, 2011

I was trying to display Hidden Folders/files to access an appdata folder under C:Usersusernameappdata. (it's to fix an issue with the game Dead Space 2) Anyway, I opened My Computer, then C drive, then Users. In here, I right clicked on empty space and opened properties. I checked 'Hidden' and apply. Said it needed administrator rights, I accepted. Then most desktop items disappeared, most files from my documents disappeared and after reboot, The ATI catalyst control centre is popping up an error message saying 'failed to start'.I realised I chose to hide all the files within that folder instead of showing hidden files/folders..I went to folder options and chose Show Hidden file and I can see them again but they have that see through look to them. ATI catalyst still won't start on reboot. I tried system restore to yesterday but still exact same. When I go to User Properties on the C drive again, it shows the files as Read Only and Hidden is unchecked.

Destination Folder Access Denied Need Permission?

Nov 30, 2012

I have been a computer consultant for decades ans I have NEVER heard this simple, singular issue addressed with other than MS pros cattily pretending to explain it away in words that mean nothing to the rest of us.I have had to radically emasculate several networks of security issues in order to get beyond this absurd barrier to the transfer of files over even the most simplistic of networks The pompous and non-assistive pretentious BS that MS experts vomit all over the web only adds insult to injury.I have two computers, a desktop and a notebook. Both are running Win 7 Home Premium. They both can see and use the files on the other but I CANNOT COPY OR MOVE ANY FILES FROM ONE TO THE ANOTHER.I would be delighted to have someone tell me how I might accomplish that/ they are even empowered to include in their explanation what a complete idiot I am not to have known how to do that before now.Whip me. Shame me before the world for my inability to understand how I might accomplish a task that should be a basic function of any network connectivity, but stop using such cryptic and unintelligible terms to describe the indescribable methodology as to pretend "the rest of us" might be In case you "experts" haven't noticed, NOBODY GETS IT!!

Denied Permission When Trying To Access Folder Named 1055

Apr 10, 2012

From somewhere, somehow, a folder named "24cd9e4542d29590bce925ec30" has been created in my W7x86pro root dir. Trying to look inside, I had to "permanently get access". But then inside it, there are a whole lot of folders named things like 1025, 1028, 1029, etc, ending with 3076, and 3082. What's in those folders, I have no idea, since every time I try to open one, I first get the "You don't currently have permission to access this folder" dialog, and then when I click Continue, I get "You have been denied permission to access this folder".

Also inside the "24cd9e4542d29590bce925ec30" folder, there are files, like "Setup.exe" and "NDP40-KB2473228.msp" and "SetupEngine.dll" and some *.bmp and some other files. I guess that NDP40-KB2473228.msp gives away that this folder has something to do with some .NET framework update, but AFAIK, there's no .NET-anything installed on this computer. I want to remove the "24cd9e4542d29590bce925ec30" folder, but there seems to be no way I can get permission to do that. trying to get ownership or set access rights, all I get is "Access denied" or similar.

1. What those folders and files are doing there?
2. How do I remove them?

Windows 7 HP 64 Bit Can't Access Vista Shared Folder With Permission

Aug 28, 2012

I have few computer at home with different Windows version, there are Windows XP, Windows Vista HP 32 bit and Windows 7 HP 64 bit. I have two share folder in the desktop using Windows Vista HP 32 bit, Share A is set to Full Control for Everyone and Share B has a permission access setting, allow few persons to access only. All computer can access Share A without problem. However, there is a problem with Share B. I only allow 3 users to access this share folder, 2 of them using laptop with Windows XP Home and Professional, they can access Share B without problem, the 3rd user using laptop with Windows 7 HP 64 bit (username is Jolene) can't access Share B, it shown "You have no permission to access...". I already double check the user name and password, there are correct. I try to login to the network using Jolene in other laptop with Windows XP, it can access both Share A and B. That means the username and the permission setting are correct in the Windows Vista desktop. I removed the anti virus in Windows 7 HP laptop, disable Windows firewall, or bootup in Safe mode with network support, but still can't access Share B.

Move A Folder Within The Appdata/roaming Folder To Another Location?

Jan 22, 2013

So far most games have been cooperative and install their folders close to Steam! However, one game in particular (Empire Total War) has installed one of its folders in "C:UsersXYZAppDataRoamingThe Creative Assembly".From experience from my old PC, I know this folder (The Creative Assembly) can grow to close to 20gb in a matter of a year. I don't want that to happen and therefore thought of relocating, moving, or redirecting this folder (The Creative Assembly) to another location. How do I do that and is that recommended? (I could simply go ahead and do this right now, but I would rather get some expert opinions first before any instabiliti

Moving/Copying The AppData Folder?

Mar 22, 2012

I made a really dumb mistake last night while setting up a VPN. Long story short I deleted my user account. Now, I did not lose any data at all (the account's folder still exists, untouched, in the /Users folder), it is just the user account picture and log in information that are gone. I have no way (that I know of) of re-referencing it so that it appears on my log-in screen again. My issue is that I effectively lost some programs and all configuration files that were exclusively associated with that account. Which is years of config data that I would HATE to have to do again. My questions are as follows (which are two sides of the same coin really).

Is there some way to re-reference this user account so it shows up and loads up like normal on windows login once again? (The system displays it as "User Unknown")f not, is there something that I can do with the /AppData folders of the new (recently created) and old ("deleted") accounts to make my new account be just like the old one?

After a couple of attempts to restore to the original location I tried restoring the AppData folder only to another folder on the C drive. Although the Restore facility confirmed Appdata restored and the properties showed the new folder to be of considerable size, it appeared to contain no data. How do I make this 'hidden' data visible so I can restore my PST file from Outlook?Currently running Windows 7 Home Premium 64 Bit.

Windows 7 - Purpose Of AppData / Roaming Folder?

I'm running Windows 7 x64 and noticed I was down to the last 7 GB of storage on my 120GB app disk. I've only got about 50 GB of apps so it looked like something was amiss. I did some poking around and discovered the Users/username/AppData/Roaming folder had 41 GB of stuff in it. 36 GB is in one folder, Adobe. I have Master Collection CS5, but the program files for all of it (stored in another folder, of course) only add up to about 15 GB.

Windows Can't Access File - May Not Have Permission To Access

I am attempting to access an application.exe file on my desktop. Each time that I click on it the Windows message, "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item." pops up. I am the system administrator so this should NOT be a problem but apparently many out there are dealing with this as well. I can delete, move and even copy the file but I cannot run it. There is no option for override with password or grant permission. It just says that I cannot run it. Also, the system I am running is Windows 7 Ultimate x64.

No Permission To Access On Network

Dec 6, 2009

I know this has probably been covered previously but I haven't fixed my problem yet.

Desktop PC (Windows 7) talks to the old Laptop (Windows XP).

I've just bought a new laptop with Windows 7, configured the Network to MSHOME, set up partitions to share & given access to everybody.

The Windows 7 laptop can see the Desktop & XP Laptop and view/exchange shared files - so the new laptop must be connected to the network.

The problem is that I can't access any shared files on the new laptop from either the Desktop PC or the old laptop - states that I don't have permissions.

If I view a shared files on the Desktop, it shows this as a shared file at the bottom of Windows Explorer whereas on the new laptop it doesn't.

I've tried everything but still can't access the new laptop.

Any ideas - I must be doing something wrong.

Setting up the Desktop was plain sailing and went without a hitch.

It was saying access denied and I needed permission from S-1-5-....gigantic number. So I changed the ownership and permissions of the files and the folders. Now it says I need permission from myself (Laptop/Kevin). I am the only account and have administrator privileges.
