Computer Does Not Recognise Seagate HDD
Jul 2, 2012
I recently purchased a usb 3.0 enclosure from silverstone model ts07b and a new 2 tb drive from seagate model ST2000DM001; the usb 3.0 card is from syba model SD-PEX20093. The problem I am having is that when I plug the enclosure into the usb 3.0 slot with the seagate hdd the computer does not recognize it, but when I plug in another 2tb drive from WD (caviar green wd20ears) the computer recognizes it. I know the seagate is not dead because when I plug the enclosure into a usb 2.0 slot the computer recognizes it. Now I need to know what I should replace, should I get a new enclosure or pci card?

after trying everything to get my old computer to work I eventually gave up and dusted off my wallet and bought a new one, I bought a new Lenova i3, with win7 64bt, my old computer was win7 32bt, all my important files were on the old hdd so I removed that and put it into an external case, but when I plugged it into the new comp it says drive not formatted do you want to format, which I obviously dont, I then tried my other external hdds and they are all the same, I know there are recovery programs that will recover the data, but I am reluctant to use these as there are a lot of home movies of my family on these drives and everytime I have used a recovery program before, the recovered video files will no longer play is there a way around this

I have attached a Seagate 500 GG external hard drive to my computer but it is not showing up in My Computer.I have browsed similar threads and on their advice gone into Device Manager. The drive is there but with no letter assigned to it but when I right click to assign one, it refers me to Windows Help, which is unable to solve the problem. There are actually two extra ikons in Device Manager - one marked FAT Healthy (EISA Configuration) and the other just marked (GPT Protective Partition). The device is acknowledged as working properly in Device Manager. The files on this drive were created on a Mac, which may be the source of the problem? Most of them I will therefore not be able to read, but there is one which is a .mov file which I should be able to read and hopefully copy - if I can access it.Is there any way I can access the drive via my PC (Windows XP) or will the drive have been formatted for Mac only and therefore is inaccessible via PC?

Using Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit. W/ASUS P7P55D Deluxe board. Very stable and non buggy. Computer was running great with multiple drives. I substituted one of my 1TB drives with a brand new Seagate 3 TB drive. With the new drive hooked up, the computer will not boot and gives a message that there is no hard drive detected, put media in and hit the key. (something to that effect).
If I enter the bios in the condition, it shows all the drives in their correct order and the boot sequence is the first hard drive, CD, etc. It has detected the new drive as drive #3. But it will not boot. But, if I disconnect the new drive (power and SATA connector), the compute will boot up fine. I have checked all the connectors ad they seem fine. Is there something about the sequence in which the SATA connectors have to be connected?

I have plugged my old Seagate external hdd into my new Acer with Windows 7 64-bit Home Premium. I am trying to pull files on to the new computer. It says I don't have permission to access the folders. How do I go about getting that permission while it is plugged into the new computer?

I reimaged my computer because I was having a whole bunch of trubble with it (no of which really matter now). After reimaging I tried to access some of the files I saved on my external hard drive, but no matter what I tried I could not get access to the files. The drive appears in device Manager and in the USB Device pages, and I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drive. But for some reason I just can't access the device.

I've been using this USB since February, and it's only today I've come across this problem. I tried it on the computers in the local library, my laptop and another home desktop with no luck at all.I have a lot of work on there. There is no brand for the USB as I was given it by a medicine company (my father is a doctor so he receives free items from these companies from time to time).

I am currently running Windows XP 32-bit with 3GB of RAM installed 2x 1GB + 2x 512MB.
I am thinking of buying another 2x 1GB sticks of RAM to bring my total RAM up to 4GB. As Windows XP only recognizes 3-3.5GB of RAM will Windows 7 32-bit recognize and utilize the full 4GB? So basically is it worth getting an extra 1GB of RAM for Windows 7?

I am using a SAMSUNG NP-S3510-A03 laptop. The problems I have had with this laptop are unreal, I wouldn't recommend anyone to buy itAnyway, my current problem is that the laptop will not read my external HD that it was previsouly reading fine before.I recently got a whole bunch of important files on the external HD to transfer to the laptop. While it was transferring the files, the transfer window crashed. I ended the task and went to try again but the external HD would no longer show up in My Computer. I tried restarting, no joy. I then tried plugging the external HD into all 3 USB ports, still no joy.It won't even show up in Disk Management.
When I plug the external HD in, the light comes on so seems to be working fine. But I get no noise in Windows to say the device has been connected, no autorun, nothing.I really need the files that are on it ASAP and cannot get the files from the original source anymore. I have not tried it on anyone elses PC/laptop yet and won't be able to for some time.

I'm running a Dell inspiron 580, and a Dell ST 2310 analog monitor with 1920 x1080 resolution (recommended). The TV is a LG 37LD450. I had no trouble with it as I watched movies from the PC to TV for over 2 months. When connecting to an external display both the PC and TV would prompt me to choose either one. But now all that it shows is the PC monitor and no TV.

I have been running Windows 7 on my pc for 3 months with great satisfaction (I upgraded/clean installed from Vista). However, tonight my pc wouldn't recognise any USB hardware (some of which I can only assume are internal, as my keyboard and mouse are PS2). Having looked online for possible fixes, it seems that running an upgrade from my installation disk would resolve the matter. My pc is stuck on the 'Starting Windows' page and won't proceed any further. I have rebooted - but although the bios page and boot setup page can have the cursor moved by the arrow keys, hitting the 'enter' key then freezes those pages. I have tried to select 'Windows 7' as the operating system rather than 'Starting Windows' but this also freezes the pc.I now have what seems to be a rather large paper weight with a fan inside it on my desk...can anyone offer a solution around this issue?

I have two large USB (1Tb and 2 Tb) external drives running on my Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bts. But when I get my old 40 Gb ext hdd or my mate's similar unit but 60 Gb (both are generic) I can't see them. Yet if I plug them on my XP laptop, or Window 7 starter notebook they install automatically with no problem! I can see my own device in Management but it requires to initial...and it won't, as for my mate's nothing at all happens when I plug it on the usb port, but the unit's green light is on!.

I don't have much knowledge in these things so I have to rely on what people tell me so I hope I am not wasting your time.I have a Sony VPCZ21 with an embedded fingerprint reader. I want to use my preferred encryption software DigitalPersona 4.1 (sadly they don't update this anymore) and under devices is listed Touchstrip Fingerprint Sensor (WBF Advanced Mode).I am told the problem is that I am not using W7Home and that W7Professional doesn't recognise the software and so I should change my operating system to W7Home. Before undertaking such a task I would be grateful if you would confirm that I am not being told nonsense and that this would be a sensible thing to do.I have already removed the original encryption software and have the latest driver uploaded. The DigitalPersonal software works perfectly with an external fingerprint reader but not with the embedded one.

I have recently been bereft of the ability to write to standard CD/DVD drive or BluRay drive with any type of blank disc. I always use windows drag-and-drop. All automatic updates are installed.Every system tool test or troubleshooter says that the two devices are working properly. They can play pre-recorded material but I simply cannot get them to recognise blank media.

I recently upgraded from Windows Vista Business to Windows 7 Professional. The problem I am having is that my Seagate Freeagent 1TB drive wont load in Windows 7. I have to keep going to Device Manager and Uninstalling the driver and then plugging it back in so it automatically installs itself and then when I shut down the computer I have to do the process again.
I thought things that worked with Windows Vista were supposed to work with Windows 7.
Any solutions or help on this problem would be appreciated. PS I have already tried installing newer drivers, I have the latest ones, and I know this is a software issue as I am able to access the drive as normal after re-installing it each time.

Recently my PC just randomly crashed and upon restart, would not barely get past POST screen and get stuck on "Detecting IDE Drives...". I isolated the problem to my Seagate main drive. I went into diskpart and tried list disk, but the drive would not even display there. Does this mean my drive is pretty much dead?

Seagate provides a FREE download of their Seagate DiscWizard It is Acronis True Image, but slightly tweaked for Seagate.I have used it many many times for XP, and it is fairly 'idiot proof'.I cannot say the same for Windows 7 Imaging.Creating the image is 'idiot proof'Restoring the image is a mental challenge for me.Say I had just one partition on a drive, and I create an image. When you try to restore an image, you have to choose from three checkboxes
- CMD 100 MB
- OS (your real partition)
- MBR
there should be one box that you could tick to restore my simple one partition drive, BUT THERE AIN'T So I have to decide which of the three checkboxes to tick I would like to tick the lot, BUT YOU CAN'T You can only tick one at a time.I do not know which one to do first. And if that was not enough of a problem, you have to decide whether to make it Active
(Do I make the CMD Active ?)
(Do I make the OS Active ?)
(Do I position the CMD Hard left)
(Do I position the OS hard left)
And if that was not enough of a dilemma, You are given two ways to Restore the other two checkboxes
- You can do a mini reverse (Before allowing the Restore) to tick one more checkbox, OR
- You can Restore each checkbox one at a time.Either way, you still have to decide on making each Active, and 'hard lefting'.Needless to say, I got it wrong, and am about to delete all the partitions (CMD apparently being considered a partition) and try Restoring again.

I had a 2 TB, and 3TB Seagate Go HDs and decided they would be best used as internal drives, turns out they both crashed completely upon SATA connection in the motherboard, I first guessed probably due to the difference in boot record. Upon reformatting in NTFS, I have found that the drives run very sluggish, I have been debating on just buying a new USB drive and copying my files, then getting rid of these 2 HDs. This doesn't make sense to me as I used to think all HDs were the same, does anyone know any reason why these 2 external drives are killing my system performance after they were made into internal drives (also why would they completely crash before).
