View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently purchased a usb 3.0 enclosure from silverstone model ts07b and a new 2 tb drive from seagate model ST2000DM001; the usb 3.0 card is from syba model SD-PEX20093. The problem I am having is that when I plug the enclosure into the usb 3.0 slot with the seagate hdd the computer does not recognize it, but when I plug in another 2tb drive from WD (caviar green wd20ears) the computer recognizes it. I know the seagate is not dead because when I plug the enclosure into a usb 2.0 slot the computer recognizes it. Now I need to know what I should replace, should I get a new enclosure or pci card?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm not 100% where to put this but I have a peculiar problem with my portable hard drive. None of them work on my computer (with Windows 7 64bit). It is no problem with my hard drives as they work perfectly well and instantly on my Notebook that holds Windows XP.
The interesting thing that comes with them is that when plugged in, they do peculiar things to the system. The drive sometimes shows up but is inaccessible and crashes when I try and access it. Scanning it for errors also sits in limbo and it being plugged in has even led to it preventing windows updates from backing up system restore. Other times it doesn't show up at all and when I disconnect the drive it asks me whether or not I want to format it.
In several hours I managed to access the portable hard drive once only to be blocked by the absurd "discovering items" glitch that renders copying files impossible.
Yet about a week or so ago it was fine. It worked with no problems at all. I would pass on some hardware details but my computer is tooling around restarting at the moment.
I have attached a Seagate 500 GG external hard drive to my computer but it is not showing up in My Computer.I have browsed similar threads and on their advice gone into Device Manager. The drive is there but with no letter assigned to it but when I right click to assign one, it refers me to Windows Help, which is unable to solve the problem. There are actually two extra ikons in Device Manager - one marked FAT Healthy (EISA Configuration) and the other just marked (GPT Protective Partition). The device is acknowledged as working properly in Device Manager. The files on this drive were created on a Mac, which may be the source of the problem? Most of them I will therefore not be able to read, but there is one which is a .mov file which I should be able to read and hopefully copy - if I can access it.Is there any way I can access the drive via my PC (Windows XP) or will the drive have been formatted for Mac only and therefore is inaccessible via PC?
View 3 Replies View RelatedUsing Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit. W/ASUS P7P55D Deluxe board. Very stable and non buggy. Computer was running great with multiple drives. I substituted one of my 1TB drives with a brand new Seagate 3 TB drive. With the new drive hooked up, the computer will not boot and gives a message that there is no hard drive detected, put media in and hit the key. (something to that effect).
If I enter the bios in the condition, it shows all the drives in their correct order and the boot sequence is the first hard drive, CD, etc. It has detected the new drive as drive #3. But it will not boot. But, if I disconnect the new drive (power and SATA connector), the compute will boot up fine. I have checked all the connectors ad they seem fine. Is there something about the sequence in which the SATA connectors have to be connected?
I have plugged my old Seagate external hdd into my new Acer with Windows 7 64-bit Home Premium. I am trying to pull files on to the new computer. It says I don't have permission to access the folders. How do I go about getting that permission while it is plugged into the new computer?
View 8 Replies View RelatedI'm not certain if this has anything to do with Windows, or my motherboard, or overloading my system, or whatever. But I could use some input.
I built my current system in the summer of 2009. I tried to "futureproof" as much as I could by putting in a Corei7 processor (the low-end, 2.66 Ghz one), an Intel 80 GB SSD boot drive, a 10,000 RPM WD Velociraptor secondary drive, 12 GB of DDR3 1666Mhz RAM which I later learned my Gigabyte GA EX58-UD5 Motherboard DID NOT want to run natively any faster than 1333 Mhz, a 2GB DDR5 ATI 4870 Sapphire video card, and a BD-write drive I already had I'd installed in a prior system, as well as a DVD-writer and a card reader/writer with additional built-in USB ports and an E-SATA port.
This particular motherboard came with 10 SATA 2 ports and 10 USB ports (not to mention more I got with the Coolermaster Haf 937 case I used and that card reader, plus a couple firewire ports (I LIKE lots of connectivity). I never used all my SATA2 ports, although quite a few were hooked up, what with the connections for the case and card reader (which has since bit the dust)...
Anyway, a year or two later, after SATA 3 and USB came out, Newegg had 600GB WD Velociraptor SATA3 drives on sale for LESS than I'd paid for my 300 GB SATA 2 drive, and since I largely used external drives for a lot of my storage, and those were becoming available in USB 3, I found an ASUS card (U3S6 -- PCI-E 4) that had two internal SATA 3 connectors and two external USB3 connectors, and away I went. (I also added an additional internal SATA 2 7200 Hitachi 2 TB drive as a primary file storage drive at that time, with the first SATA 3 external a 2 TB SATA 3 to use as backup.) Those drives all show up FINE when I boot up, but often after a few hours, or a day or two, they'll just "disappear" from my list of drives. I find this QUITE disconcerting, as the 80GB Intel SSD has proven too small, what with the 14 GB WinSXS is now taking up, and I just ordered a 256 GB SSD that comes with Acronis True Image from Newegg to clone it to -- and of course it's SATA3. As I didn't have any more SATA 3 slots left, I also ordered another SATA 3 card. The ONLY slot I had left was a PCI-E -1 slot, which it appears that card is designed for, but as this new drive will be my BOOT drive, with Windows and all my PROGRAMS running off it, I certainly don't need the system "losing IT" in the middle of a session! (Note, the SATA 2 Hitachi drive NEVER fails to show up. Neither do the 300 GB Velociraptor nor the 80 GB Intel SSD, which are all on the built-in SATA 2 BUS).
I've considered replacing this motherboard, as it's had some issues (BOTH of the two gigabit ethernet connections that came with it petered out, and I had to buy an add-on card to get my gigabit ethernet back (one WASTED PCI slot)! However, I've yet to find ANY other motherboards that have anywhere NEAR the connectivity this Gigabyte board came with. Or is that the problem? Did Gigabyte overload this board?
The other day I thought to update the BIOS on the board, and although it took two reboots, I haven't "lost" any of those drives since (been on, or in "Sleep" mode ever since), so maybe it needed a BIOS update. I also went into the BIOS "Intelligent Tweaker" and toned down any settings that warned might create an unstable system (I was already pretty conservative with those, but I went a bit more conservative).
whenever i try to install my command and conquer generals and command and conquer generals zero hour games, i just get the error message " ***MISSING MESSAGES***IDS_AUTORUN_TITLE and IDS_CANT_FIND" can anybody help? both these games worked fine on my old laptop, once i tried them on this toshiba this happened. i am running windows 7.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have just upgraded to Windows 7 and have discovered an annoyance with Windows Explorer. When I expand a folder's contents (tree) by clicking on the arrow icon, the entire contents of the left panel jump to the bottom of the visible screen (rather than just the subfolders expanding). The annoyance is that every time I expand a tree in the Explorer, I also have to scroll the contents of the left panel back up (because it jumped down). For example, in Vista, if I expanded a folder tree, only the sub folders would expand and move downward.

All good then I mounted the Expansion image via Daemon Tools, had no success. It's not accepting / won't run the image and gave me an error. I got freaked out. System froze and there's nothing that I can do aside from pressing the "reset" button. Is my OS compatible to the game? I got a broken file on my OS (OS issues) or the image itself is corrupted?

View 1 Replies View RelatedMy computer keeps shutting itself down with the following error message:
"Power surges detected during the previous power on. ASUS anti-surge was triggered to protect the system from unstable power.......(see below for photo of screen).
So I bought a UPS in the hopes of controlling the flow of power to my computer. Unfortunately that didn't work so I assumed that the power supply unit must be broken. I have replaced it and I am still getting the crash/error. So I simply disabled the feature on teh motherboard that controls anti-surge protection and now my computer simply crashes and powers down.
I have checked the event logs and noticed this being logged right before the crash every time:

I recently upgraded a MICRO-STAR INT'L CO.,LTD. MS-1034 0341 from XP/SP3, to Windows 7 Ultimate SP1. The laptop has a Digital Camera integrated into it. While the system was XP, the webcam worked. I could open My Computer, and if the camera was turned on, it showed in the inventory of devices. Now, with the new and better Windows 7 ULTIMATE, , as the camera says it is connected, but it isn't in the "Computer" inventory, and that is where you really turn the thing on. I have downloaded drivers out the ying-yang and get the same result each time.
