Computer Crashes When Attempting To Access Any Portable Device
Feb 11, 2012
I'm not 100% where to put this but I have a peculiar problem with my portable hard drive. None of them work on my computer (with Windows 7 64bit). It is no problem with my hard drives as they work perfectly well and instantly on my Notebook that holds Windows XP.
The interesting thing that comes with them is that when plugged in, they do peculiar things to the system. The drive sometimes shows up but is inaccessible and crashes when I try and access it. Scanning it for errors also sits in limbo and it being plugged in has even led to it preventing windows updates from backing up system restore. Other times it doesn't show up at all and when I disconnect the drive it asks me whether or not I want to format it.
In several hours I managed to access the portable hard drive once only to be blocked by the absurd "discovering items" glitch that renders copying files impossible.
Yet about a week or so ago it was fine. It worked with no problems at all. I would pass on some hardware details but my computer is tooling around restarting at the moment.

So, recently I decided to move the windows taskbar to the right side of the screen to see if I liked it better over there. It turns out I did not, so I tried to make it go back to the bottom. Every time I try to move it to the bottom, now, explorer.exe crashes and the taskbar remains on the right. The weird thing is, I can move it to the left no problem, but not to the top.So top and bottom taskabar is fubar'd for some reason. I didn't install anything funky and I don't visit any sites that would install viruses (I only regularly visit Facebook, Google, XDA-Developers and DeviantArt, all which I believe to be safe -but maybe I was wrong)[CODE]
I am trying to recover some deleted files from my android phone (samsung galaxy s3) but the file recovery software I am using only detects removable devices yet the S3 Shows up as a portable device. Is there a way to override this, because in the file recovery software it only detects drive letters.
This is very odd. but it seems random .dll files are trying to access the internet only when I am away from the computer for like 15 mins. They attempt this through rundll32.exe or whatever it's called.
I dont' think it's a virus because it's a new Win7 install and have not installed anything odd. Plus Avast has not picked anything up.
But there's no way all these .dll files are trying to access the internet while I'm gone. I mean most of the .dll files are from non-self-updating apps.
Such as a mouse, a mobile, or an external drive.I mean make them visible (in My Computer) even though they're not connected so it's easier to remember what devices I use. My memory is awful, don't ask.Obviously I know I wouldn't be able to access the files unless the devices were connected, but the point is to make their icons show up as if they were connected even though they won't actually be of any use.
For some reason I can no longer access my XP shares from Windows 7 Home Premium. This was working for about 2 months (since I got this machine) but now everytime I attempt to access my XP files it asks for the network password?
Have recently purchased a small usb inspection snake camera with led light and when testing it plugged it into two desktops computers (one xp pro not sure of the other as it was a network work computer) It automatically loaded the drivers and brought up a screen automatically with the realtime image.(no driver disc came with it). However plugging into my windows 7 64bit sony laptop it signals a connection beep, loaded drivers automatically but wouldn't open or show up on my computer disc manager as an external usb source to click on. It does however show up on device manager as a usb camera and when I unplug and replug in it disappears and reappears so I know I have the right camera (not the lap top webcam inbuilt one that shows USB 2 Camera). Have tried updating drivers automatically and uninstalling it etc. Need it to work on the lap top so it can act as the movable screen for it?
[b]I have had this problem on and off since my purchase of this hp pavilion. When I try to install software I have downloaded or have the cd for i get the following message. "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item." If I use the trick to change the name of the exe file to notepad I can sometimes get the program to install but most times not. I have virus checked with Avast, Malware bytes, and adaware.
I have a projector on my network which has LAN connectivity for the purpose of emailing error messages (ie. lamp due to be changed). The connection path is as follows:Using cat5e, I've connected the projector to a 5-Port Linksys SD205 where there are other devices connected. The SD205 is connected to a 24-Port Zyxel via cat5e which is where all network devices meet. The projector is properly configured with IP information. I am unable to ping the projector through the network. The port to which it is connected gets a brief, intermittent flash. If I connect the projector directly to the Zyxel switch, I can ping it and access it via IE.I thought the same so I swapped it out with a 8-Port Linksys EZXS88W but still get the same results.Perhaps it is a quirk with Linksys, so I swap out the switch with a 3com and still the same results. Why would this device connect when directly connected to the ZyXEL but not when going through the Linksys SD205? What does the intermittent flashing light on the Linksys SD205 mean?
We have a scenario where a number of developers residing on a less secure network have access to Windows 7 virtual machines. Access is via the standard RDP protocol. In the domain that these machines reside we would wish to set in group policy access to the local machine USB devices. However, we would also wish to ensure that we block access to the local drives on the client. Looking through group policy are able to block acccess to all local devices channels but cannot configure or find solution where we can just access the USB (removable media devices). Looking through forums it appears that this is only available on Remote Desktop Services for 2008 R2 server.

I installed windows 7 on my Sony VGN NR498E and I want to know if I need to install another sound card to have my sound input devices option availiable again.
My computer system crashes when I play most video games (only company of heroes and civilization 5 wont crash). I have already ran all the stress tests including memtest 86+, prime95 and furmark without any errors/crashes. I suspected that it was a driver issue so I decided to do a clean reinstall of windows 7 and then install all the drivers. It had absolutely no effect I updated my motherboard and video card BIOS but that didnt help either. I tried disabling ULPS and 2D clocks for my video card but nothing happened. The only critical event that is logged in event viewer is "kernel ID 41" (Its just a notification that my computer was shut off unexpectedly). When the computer crashes, a black screen will appear and the last bit of audio that was playing will get distorted and it will keep on playing(It will make a loud BRRRRR noise).I have to then manually restart the computer and boot back into windows.

i have the same problem with a benq joybook a53, every time i close the lid, when i open it , i have a blue screen, and it doesn`t matter if i put it on sleep or hibernate, only with "do nothing" doesn`t appear the blue screen, but i really do nead to close the lid and put it to sleep, or hibernate. i`ve attached the files from c:\windowsminidump
sometimes when coming out of sleep mode I'll be greeted with the boot screen. Upon logging into Windows, I get the "Windows has recovered from an unexpected shutdown" error:
Code: Problem signature: Problem Event Name:BlueScreen OS Version:6.1.7600.2.0.0.768.3
System Manufacturer/Model Number Sony VAIO VPCCW17FX (~2 years old) OS Windows 7 Home Premium OEM 64 Bit (~1 month since clean install, 1 week since

I gave Best Buy my Sony VAIO laptop to fix it since I have the three year extended service. All I was getting fixed was a key on my mouse pad. I figured, no biggie.
They replaced my motherboard because the mouse key input was faulty. My computer now shuts off if I do any intensive task. For example, I scanned my computer for viruses with Malwarebytes and it turned off. There are no crash reports, and nothing in the logs to indicate the crash, but I will upload the full report anyway. I also have a CSV file with the temperature readouts (CPU gets up to 88 C, so I think this may have something to do with it, lol, but the temps right at crash were 54 C after climbing to 83 C or 78 C).
If I run any of the Prime95 tests, my laptop crashes fairly quickly.
Small FFTs (maximum FPU strtess, data fits in L2 cache, RAM not tested much) ~3 seconds In-place large FFTs (maximum heat, power consumption, some RAM tested) ~0.5-1 second Blend (tests some of everything, lots of RAM tested) ~3 seconds
thread here so i am not sure if i am posting in the right area, but i am having major problem with my pc. When ever i start playing a game, what ever it may be, (Starcraft 2, Battlefield 3, League of Legends, Ect) 10 to 20 minutes into playing the game, my computer randomly freezes, and i am forced to unplug it, and plug it back in to restart it. This never happens when ever i am just browsing the internet. ntel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q8300 @ 2.50GHz4.00 GB(3.00 GB usable)32-bit processor
Whenever he prints his laptop freezes. It gets halfway through the print and then the computer freezes. When it freezes it renders the computer totally useless until a restarts.
The print also stops as soon as the computer crashes, even if it had not finished the print. The printer only spews out the paper when he restarts the computer.
The computer is running windows 7 home premium. The printer is Cannon MP280
So, I start the computer and login fine. After login my computer freezes and either blue screens without text or returns to the normal desktop but is frozen. I have tried to run it in safemode and it will not crash in it. I'm thinking a driver problem or possible corrupt memory.
But.. Its much worse. Is it anyway i can fix This problem? ... With Command Promt ... uhh Deleting from the registry ( Now I'll pay much attention) Or Anything?? Free software? For my College I did a paper... like, 6 pages... me thinking my computer is fine. Then Boom It Crashed
I can't play games, and I can't enter my documents, conrol panel, computer and much more! It says:" Explorer.EXE (Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item. It must be Explorer.EXE's fault". And when I try to click on "Control Panel" It happens the same, just not from Explorer.EXE... ::{26EE0668-A00A-44D7-9371-BEB064C98683} (Dunno if it's 0 or the letter O xD).
I've been running windows 7 trouble free for aprox 1 year. I attempted to turn my PC on last night and got as far as black screen with cursor spinning, windows would not load. I booted into safe mode and ran superantispyware, malwarebytes, kaspersky....all came back finding nothing. From safe mode (or any mode) I can not acccess control panel, computer, etc; when I attempt to access I get the folllowing error msg, "windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access them." This happens when I log in as admin also.
I have looked for an answer online but most of either does not work or is very complicated for your average man.Windows 98 was the best operating system, everyone knows thatWindows 7 has been treating me fine until recently.Over the last week, 4 or 5 different programs that I have been using , wont load. They come up with the error message in the subject of this post. And it says i may not have permission to view the files? These are programs i downloaded such as skype, vlc media player, google talk, audacity, utorrent. Things like that. Only 1 did it at first, now 5.Really annoying and I cant see a reason for it. So I usually will have to download the program again, but I cant keep doing that and it doesnt always work anyway. One idea i had , i thought it might be a problem to do with AVG virus killer thing.I have AVG free virus killer thing but it keeps crashing. It says many files are unhealable cos theyre unabale to locate the file. and also it indicates that there is a problem with one of the AVG files. Sometimes avg wont respond . (it says not responding)Does anyone have an idea of what I should look into ? I never had a problem with windows 98 until they started making stuff that only runs on later versions. I used to play worms on windows 98 for 8 hours a day.
