Need Sound Input Device Access?

Mar 1, 2010I have an emu 1820m soundcard installed in my computer. It seems to be functioning perfectly. I can play dvd'd, cd's, iTunes, etc and the sound plays through my speakers without a problem. I want to record some sounds from a dvd but i cant get anything to record. Recording device is set to Wave EMU DSP as the default device. Im using Audacity to record and have set the recording preference device to be Wave (E-MU _-DSP). When I hit record I get an error 'Error while opening sound device. Please check the input device settings and the project template'And I cant record anything.In the built in Windows sound recorder, when I hit record, I get this error 'An audio recording device cannot be found' Everything seems to be functioning perfectly, yet i just cant record anything.

Oct 29, 2012I'm running Windows 7 Home N SP1 x64. I'm using an M-Audio Fast-Track Pro device to record audio into a music sequencer (Cubase 5), through a Shure SM58 Microphone. The M-Audio box is connected to the computer via USB. I've been using this set-up for about a year now and it hadn't caused me any problems until the last few weeks. For some reason Windows is not registering any signal from the input of the M-Audio box. The box itself picks up the sound and I can hear tapping on the microphone when M-Audio is selected as the output device, but not from the built-in speakers.
I first noticed the problem in the software (and thought for the longest time that it was the software). I'm very competent with Cubase and tried everything I could think of to get it to register with no avail. It was only when I tried to use the device on another sequencer that I realised that it's not the software. Then, since the mic works fine, the box itself is picking up the signal and out-putting it through itself, it must be something wrong with the computer or the OS.
I've re-installed the M-Audio driver, didn't make any difference. I've set the M-Audio as default in both playback and recording tabs in the sound control panel. Playback works fine. One thing that's really strange is that when I open manage sound drivers in the control panel and tap on the mic, neither the levels in recording nor playback even flutter, even though I can hear it pretty clearly through the headphones.

Dec 23, 2009I have an Asus P6T motherboard with Realtek ALC1200 on board audio and Windows 7 64 bit OS, DirectX 10, Audio Driver version 6.0.1.5859. The sound works normally for all audio functions. I installed Nero and went to use the Wave Editor application to record a song from the web and got the message "Unable to open recording device". Going to Options > Device Settings > for an Input Device there only shows "MMEwave mapper)". There is no other input device listed. In Device Manager the "Realtek High Definition Audio" device shows as the only device. Going to "Manage Audio Devices" and the "Recording Tab" there shows only "Microphone" and "Line In". There is no "Realtek Digital Input" device listed (as I've seen in web screenshots from others). how to get an input device listed to use with Nero recording?

- should work regardless of PC graphics (currently have G45 onboard video, may buy i3 with onchip graphics only)
I found these StarTech Video-to-USB devices but read mixed reviews and it seems those are geared towards videoconversion and often have sound problems.
Lost Mixer As Input Device?
Dec 29, 2012I have a Toshiba Satellite A665-S6086 laptop which had to be re-imaged back to out of the box status. Before the re-imaging, the Realtek audio controller had a mixer panel in its device manager, and on the system volume control, that allowed me to record from the mix of audio going to the speaker (labeled "stereo mix" ). Now, I find that the ONLY recording device that EXISTS is the physical built-in microphone; I just recorded a streamed radio program, and it was basically recording the room noises and, very faintly, the audio from the speaker. That was how I discovered the change in software environment. I have tried downloading the driver from the recovery partition; it installs but does not correct the problem. I have tried uninstalling both audio devices and letting them reinstall on restart. I can play audio to the speakers, but not record the audio internally.

Apr 30, 2012I do use a online USB foot pedal that is used for transcription. I have two plugs powering the system, one for the monitor and the other to the CPU, connected to a extension cord with 5 sockets. To the rest of the sockets I had my DTH (digital tv receiver) and a small tv connected. With this setup, when I am working with my footpedal, it works for 1/2 an hour with proper play, rewind, and forward controls. After 1/2 an hour, it starts acting weird and begins to control itself in that it plays stops rewinds continuously by itself making it difficult for me. At first I thought it is driver issue and reinstalled and installed and tried all methods. I do get lot of errors at such times if I change the USB port for the pedal during the times of this issue. However, the moment I switch the DTH off from the power source. It all seemed to be working fine again without any issue.
Considering that, I thought it may be due to some voltage problem with distribution of power and I connected the DTH set seperately out to an entirely different AC wall socket but same room. Again, for the first half an hour the pedal controls works fine, and then the same thing happens and the moment I switch the DTH receiver off, its all back to normal.

Oct 13, 2012I have an Issue when I go into the device manager of my Windows 7 64 bit desktop pc it says: "The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28) There is no driver selected for the device information set or element. To find a driver for this device, click Update Driver. This is for the pci input device."
I tried updating the drivers and it says windows could not find the drivers for this device if you know the manufacturer go to there website. I tried searching for the drivers manually through the list that windows gives you but said it couldn't find them either. I have a Creative audigy 2 sound card and when I go to update the driver from the audigy 2 it says that it can't find drivers even though they are installed and the sound card is working.
Nothing indicates that they are installed except for the fact that it does show a driver date and version. I have the latest drivers. From 3 something 2012 I tried updating the drivers from creatives website but it said no hardware device could be detected on my system. Should I maybe reinstall the card? Just put it back into the same slot on my motherboard?

Jul 18, 2010re-enable a sound input in myconfiguration (I think it was a Digital input). I have recently re-installed Windows 7 following a change of mobo (to a Gigabyte GA-EP41-UD3L). However, whilst setting up my sound system I disabled a sound input in my profile in the belief it would be easy enough to re-enable it if needed. In the event, I just cannot work out how to re-enable it. It seems to be easy enough in XP but in Windows 7 I just cannot work it out. Now I find myself unable to record audio from videos I play on my PC - I can ONLY record/monitor audio from sound files; I've no problem in XP (I have a Windows 7/XP dualboot setup). I've tried creating a different user account but all to no avail - it doesn't change anything at all.So! I hope someone may be able to give me some guidance on how to re-enable my sound input- PLEASE! My only other alternative is to reinstall yet again - something I don't look forward to!

Nov 4, 2009I'm in a pickle with my machine and Windows 7 after this latest update. On startup I get an error from MMDevApi.dll saying that it might not run on Windows or... something else. This also occurs anytime a program tries to use the sound card ie. WoW, Yahoo IM, Live IM, SL, etc. I've updated my sound card drivers to the newest ones. I still get an error that says the device is detected when going to "Sound Devices" in the control panel.
Trying to adjust the sounds themselves leads me to the Windows Audio thing... which won't start even from the component list.

normally i only have 1 sound card/sound device in sound settings when i use hdmi with my tv, i have 2 sound devices in there, and i can choose 1 one of them as default, and all applications i run will play sound on that default device, so i choose hdmi (my tv) as default, open chrome for my mom watch movies, sound play on my tv (hdmi), that's what i want and i open firefox, go to Internet, sound also play on my tv (hdmi), that's not what i want, i want it (firefox) to play sound on my pc, so my mom can watch movies on tv, and i can watch Internet on pc
is there a way to do this? a way to set per-application sound card/sound device setting? i know some programs like windows media player or vlc can let you choose sound card, but firefox, chrome do not. i tried indievolume and it did not work, even uninstalled, reinstalled but did not work, or is there any browser that let me choose sound card setting (like wmp and vlc, but these 2 are not browser)
and does anyone know if mac or windows 8 has this feature as built-in? if windows 8 does then i might upgrade
Cannot Record Line In Sound, Using USB Sound Device
Feb 19, 2009I've had this problem since windows vista, in windows xp i could record my line in perfectly, without any problems, but now, even if i enabled Stereo mix(tried mono also) it won't make any sound when i try playing some music.

Apr 4, 2012I have a projector on my network which has LAN connectivity for the purpose of emailing error messages (ie. lamp due to be changed). The connection path is as follows:Using cat5e, I've connected the projector to a 5-Port Linksys SD205 where there are other devices connected. The SD205 is connected to a 24-Port Zyxel via cat5e which is where all network devices meet.The projector is properly configured with IP information. I am unable to ping the projector through the network. The port to which it is connected gets a brief, intermittent flash. If I connect the projector directly to the Zyxel switch, I can ping it and access it via IE.I thought the same so I swapped it out with a 8-Port Linksys EZXS88W but still get the same results.Perhaps it is a quirk with Linksys, so I swap out the switch with a 3com and still the same results.Why would this device connect when directly connected to the ZyXEL but not when going through the Linksys SD205? What does the intermittent flashing light on the Linksys SD205 mean?

In the domain that these machines reside we would wish to set in group policy access to the local machine USB devices. However, we would also wish to ensure that we block access to the local drives on the client. Looking through group policy are able to block acccess to all local devices channels but cannot configure or find solution where we can just access the USB (removable media devices). Looking through forums it appears that this is only available on Remote Desktop Services for 2008 R2 server.

Major error on my part to not write down all that sais, but there it is.Now I have NO sound at all. Actually, my computer does not recognize the monitor speakers, nor does it recognize external speakers, when I tried using a pair of them instead, nor does it recognize headphones when plugged in to the jack. USB Mic Shows As Sound Device
Aug 3, 2012For my radio project and podcasts I've invested in a digital microphone. I also got a wireless keyboard and mouse with volume control, not very important but it factors in.
When I start Windows I have two sound devices: The actual speakers and this ProSound mic. Under the actual speakers would be things like VLC and under the mic would be other vital things like Iron (Chrome). If I want to watch/listen to something online I have to plug out the mic. This puts all the programs under the Speakers device. If I plug it back in these programs RETURN to the ProSound mic.
So first of all I need to know why my programs made this choice and how do I put a stop to it? Secondly how do I make my speakers my primary device so I can use these awesome volume controls I paid out the *** to use.

Mar 20, 2012I've been running windows 7 trouble free for aprox 1 year. I attempted to turn my PC on last night and got as far as black screen with cursor spinning, windows would not load. I booted into safe mode and ran superantispyware, malwarebytes, kaspersky....all came back finding nothing. Apr 12, 2011I have looked for an answer online but most of either does not work or is very complicated for your average man.Windows 98 was the best operating system, everyone knows thatWindows 7 has been treating me fine until recently.Over the last week, 4 or 5 different programs that I have been using , wont load. They come up with the error message in the subject of this post. And it says i may not have permission to view the files? These are programs i downloaded such as skype, vlc media player, google talk, audacity, utorrent. Things like that. Only 1 did it at first, now 5.Really annoying and I cant see a reason for it. So I usually will have to download the program again, but I cant keep doing that and it doesnt always work anyway.One idea i had , i thought it might be a problem to do with AVG virus killer thing.I have AVG free virus killer thing but it keeps crashing. It says many files are unhealable cos theyre unabale to locate the file. and also it indicates that there is a problem with one of the AVG files. Sometimes avg wont respond . (it says not responding)Does anyone have an idea of what I should look into ? I never had a problem with windows 98 until they started making stuff that only runs on later versions. I used to play worms on windows 98 for 8 hours a day.
