No Sound, No Sound Device Detected, Drives Installed
I'm in a pickle with my machine and Windows 7 after this latest update. On startup I get an error from MMDevApi.dll saying that it might not run on Windows or... something else. This also occurs anytime a program tries to use the sound card ie. WoW, Yahoo IM, Live IM, SL, etc. I've updated my sound card drivers to the newest ones. I still get an error that says the device is detected when going to "Sound Devices" in the control panel. Trying to adjust the sounds themselves leads me to the Windows Audio thing... which won't start even from the component list.

No Sound From Stereo Mix / How To Record From Headphones ?
I have upgraded from Vista to Windows 7 week ago.I use audacity to record audio from stereo mix.But I am not able to record from stereo mix anymore since I upgraded to Windows 7.Because there is no sound coming from Stereo Mix,it used to work before I upgraded to windows 7,I have searched for solutions, tried installing virtual drivers etc. and it has nothing to do with audacity,I am sure that I have configured it right.I have few questions regarding this problem; -Is there any way to fix the sound issue with Stereo Mix? -If not,is there any way to record from headphones with audacity,or set headphones as a recording device? -Any other ways to record audio I am hearing from my headphones with audacity? I am using : Realtek High Definition Audio, driver version 6.0.1.5882

On-line Full Screen Video Sound Distortion
I've gone to Microsoft for help with this issue, been to several tech forums, and even sent a request for help to Adobe Flash Player for help but I have had absolutely NO luck. Basically this is my problem...I am a student and I just upgraded my Gateway laptop to Windows 7 Home Premium x64-bit for that $30 deal. Everything is running perfectly except my on-line videos. Every single time I click on "full screen" to maximize the video size I start having sound distortion after about 30 or 40 seconds. I've checked and it's not my browser (I've tried it with Firefox and IE). I went to upgrade my sound driver but I got a message saying that my driver is already up-to-date. I also thought that the problem might be the flash player but I checked on that too and it was also up-to-date. The best way that I can describe the distortion is that I have this sound that makes all of the noise in the video sound like everything is cracking up under water. Hope that makes sense. Oh, and to make things even worse...I don't have this problem on YouTube. I don't know if YouTube formats their videos in a certain way but I can put videos on Full Screen without the sound distortion. If you'd like an example of the type of videos I'm talking about go to MSN.com and look at the tiny little video that they always have on the left side titled "Video Highlights". Any help would be greatly appreciated...I really don't know what to do. I have a small bit of understanding of computers but I'm not that tech savvy.

Cannot Find Creative Sound Blaster Xtreme Audio Sound Card
My fairly new PC: Core2Quad Q6700 on ASUS P5K (Intel P35) with RealTek HD Audio chip, plus Creative Soundblaster Xtreme Audio internal sound card. I've installed Windows 7RC on a new partition on my HD alongside Vista Ultimate. I've experienced no installation problem, but Win7RC does not recognize my SB sound card at all! So, I can't even update the driver! It recognized the Realtek chip and my external USB mic, but not the sound card that had been installed for audio quality!! To come to think of it, I've had the problem with Vista, with my Dragon Naturally Speaking Pro 10.1 not recognizing the "existence of any sound system" in an administrator account I used to install the software. However, the software recognizes all my audio systems in my other user account (admin) and the software runs smoothly!! Any connection? What's the problem here? Anyone have any idea? Edit: I also found that the stereo mix feature of the Realtek HD audio isn't recognized either. (Recognized in Vista and my old XP)

Sound Blaster Audigy PCI Card Sound Problem
I installed windows 7 home premium today on my computer on a dedicated hard disk. All went fine and did windows updates to all my driver issues. At this point I had sound. I then installed ubuntu 9.10 on a separate physical disk without issue. Ubuntu installed a boot loader (Grub) which recognised windows 7 and I could boot into both OSes (dual boot), both working happily (including sound). I then installed some apps in ubuntu (incl. wine) and now when I boot into windows 7, I don't have any sound. The sound icon is happy, the device manager is happy. I haven't touched the windows disk or installation, yet the sound doesn't work. The sound hardware is a Sound Blaster Audigy PCI card. This doesn't make sense surely. Any ideas?

Regular Cataclysmic Sound Failures In Asus Onboard Sound
After installing windows 7x64, the sound initially worked. Then I noticed that during any audio playback the sound would pop and crack regularly. Now on occasion, the audio will work with popping and cracking for a while, and then have a cataclysmic failure errupting in massive static before it stops working all together.  Sound works with popping and cracking again after a cold boot, but the problem repeats every few days. I am using an Asus M2N-Plus SLI Vista Edition Motherboard which uses the C-Media 6501 on board sound-card The problem is not changed by using headphones, or using the case front head-phone jack Attempted to use Vista x64 drivers, which do not work, Neither Asus nor C-Media have released updated drivers for windows 7x64 for this card Does anyone know of a set of drivers that work? or a way to work around this?

Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium Sound Card Compatibility
I just bought a new pc from Dell. I opted out of buying the SB sound card they had as an option and now I am sorta regretting that. I loaded RC 7100 as soon as I got the machine and after going through this forum I am sorta left with the impression that SB cards don't work with Win 7. Is that really the case? I was looking at an "Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium Sound Card" but if it will just cause me grief it's not worth it. Does anyone have a suggestion as to what I can get and not pull my hair out trying to get it to work? The main game I play sounds sorta mediocre with the on-board sound.

HP Laptop No Sound From Speaker But There Is Sound Through Headphone
I have hp dv1738od and have upgraded to Windows 7, previously Windows XP. Everything seem to be working ok except, for the sound. Window 7 automatically installed the driver, and said the sound card was working properly. But there was no sound through speaker. I removed the driver and reinstall the driver that I got from HP website that work for Window Vista. Installation went through with no problem and Device manager indicated no isssue on sound driver. However there was still no sound coming out from the speaker, only through headphone jack. I read tons of forums, and some has suggested that it may be the jack connection. I tried plugging in and out numerous time, and that did not solve the issue. Sound could be heard for like a sec, when headphone was being plugged out but it goes away quickly. To determine if it was hardware or software issue, i reinstalled Window XP and there was sound through speaker. So for sure it is not the speaker issue.

Enabling Onboard Sound With A Sound Card
I fly MS FSX and I want to be able to chat to ATC with my headphones and then hear the engine noises coming out of my speakers and sub-woofer. I have a sound-card and my motherboard has on-board sound. I can't find the bios setting to turn it on and I can't see any hint of it anywhere on the computer. Can someone help me get the on board sound going? My computer is homebuilt, I recently installed Windows 7 pro 64bit.

USB Unplug Sound
I always choose the "No Sound" option in windows control / sounds panel. But when I unplugg some USB devices (like a bluetooth controller card which I use to communicate to my cellphone) I get a system sound which is incredibly large, makes me jump every time .. hehehe .. I cannot find any sound settings in the PC suite program (sony-ericsson) program .. and like I said above . I have made sure the NO SOUND option is chosen. Anybody know how to stop that unmounting sound ? It's probably right there before my eyes somewhere but cannot find it .... and since I have my computer connected to a external sound system with large speakers (use it for writing music and recording) .. that sound scares the .... out of me each time..

Looking To Buy A New External/usb Sound Card
My onboard soundcard isn't working with Windows 7. I really like the performance Windows 7 is giving me for everything, from games (no sound), to processor-heavy loads, but I just can't get the audio to work. I have tried a lot of sound drivers listed in these forums, but they all say the drivers can't find suitable hardware and exits the install.

Crystal USB Speaker Hissing Sound
I have a USB Speaker that auto-installs a audio driver into windows 7 when plugged in. Problem is I'm not sure the driver is running well with Windows 7 because there are random hissing sounds coming out. Once it comes out, it won't stop until I remove my usb and plug it back again. So I want to try compatibility mode with XP and Vista, but I am unsure how to do this.

No Sound With Audigy 2 Sound Card
This is probably just a stop gap but I was finally able to get my old Creative Audigy 2 card to work with 5.1 surround by using Audigy 4 drivers for Windows 7. I haven't been able to adjust bass and treble yet but I've been too busy just enjoying the music to get around to looking for ways to make that happen. Music sounds better than it ever did in XP or Vista! It may not be a complete fix but at least it'll get you some sound until they come up with driver for those of us with older sound cards. Be patient as it takes a while for the complete install!

Sound Issue With 2 Different Sound Cards
I have been unable to install either of my sound cards, one is an on board AC'97 link controller integrated in VIA® VT8237 VIA VT1617A 6-channel S/W audio codec and my other is a Soundblaster Audigy value. Could this be related to a wrong motherboard driver? What are the odds both would not work! BTW I have tried over 20 different drivers for each. Any ideas?  P.S. I had one hope which was the windows driver which was available through windows update but it failed and i can't seem to redownload it...

M-Audio Fasttrack USB Sound Card Problem
Windows 7 works perfect on my computer, better than i think it could work. But the problem was on my sound card. It works fine but sometimes makes strange noises like interference (like "shhhhhhh"). I download the last drivers from m-audio web page and continued with this noise, so I install the soundcard in other computer (Widows Vista) and it worked perfectly. I supose that my computer had a problem. I proceed to install Windows XP again and my sound card worked perfectly. Someone know what is the problem? What can I do?

Generic External USB Sound Card Won't Work
So I installed 7 Pro RTM, and plugged in my external sound card and no dice. I wouldn't normally care as I have a working PCI soundcard, except that its a really really high quality DAC, and it cost me a lot of money, so I'd rather not just forget all about it On XP it uses just generic usbaudio.sys, it works on macs, linux, etc without any issues. What can I try? I attempted to copy across a windows xp version of usbaudio.sys, but that didn't seem to help (I'm not entirely sure I did this correctly).

I got an Athlon 64x2 4600+, Asus M2N mainboard, 2 gigs of ram, Gainward 8800GS video card, Sound Blaster Live 24bit soundcard. Drivers are downloaded from creative.
