normally i only have 1 sound card/sound device in sound settings when i use hdmi with my tv, i have 2 sound devices in there, and i can choose 1 one of them as default, and all applications i run will play sound on that default device,so i choose hdmi (my tv) as default, open chrome for my mom watch movies, sound play on my tv (hdmi), that's what i want and i open firefox, go to Internet, sound also play on my tv (hdmi), that's not what i want, i want it (firefox) to play sound on my pc, so my mom can watch movies on tv, and i can watch Internet on pc is there a way to do this? a way to set per-application sound card/sound device setting? i know some programs like windows media player or vlc can let you choose sound card, but firefox, chrome do not. i tried indievolume and it did not work, even uninstalled, reinstalled but did not work,or is there any browser that let me choose sound card setting (like wmp and vlc, but these 2 are not browser)

I've had this problem for sometime now. Using Windows 7, anytime I close an application, website, game, etc. that has sound in it (i.e. music) I get a hum from my speakers the same volume as the sound in the app. this will stay on until I launch another app with sound. Example, if I'm playing an AVI using windows media player, and I stop the video berfore the end and close the media player, I will get this "Hmmm until I relaunch the media player or another application with sound. If I allow the video to playout there is no hum. But If I'm playing a PC game, when I close the game I get the same problem.
I have an emu 1820m soundcard installed in my computer. It seems to be functioning perfectly. I can play dvd'd, cd's, iTunes, etc and the sound plays through my speakers without a problem. I want to record some sounds from a dvd but i cant get anything to record. Recording device is set to Wave EMU DSP as the default device. Im using Audacity to record and have set the recording preference device to be Wave (E-MU _-DSP). When I hit record I get an error 'Error while opening sound device. Please check the input device settings and the project template'And I cant record anything. In the built in Windows sound recorder, when I hit record, I get this error 'An audio recording device cannot be found' Everything seems to be functioning perfectly, yet i just cant record anything.
I wish if I could install automated windows 7 x86 directly from my USB pen drive/HDD without and CD/DVD with all applications. I have 2 laptops and one desktop machine in my home. I'm going away from home so I need to have a USB HDD so that even a layman can do the installation whenever required. Only c drive should be formatted not entire machine.
I'm in a pickle with my machine and Windows 7 after this latest update. On startup I get an error from MMDevApi.dll saying that it might not run on Windows or... something else. This also occurs anytime a program tries to use the sound card ie. WoW, Yahoo IM, Live IM, SL, etc. I've updated my sound card drivers to the newest ones. I still get an error that says the device is detected when going to "Sound Devices" in the control panel.
Trying to adjust the sounds themselves leads me to the Windows Audio thing... which won't start even from the component list.
I've had this problem since windows vista, in windows xp i could record my line in perfectly, without any problems, but now, even if i enabled Stereo mix(tried mono also) it won't make any sound when i try playing some music.
Anyony that can help me with this?
Also, as stated in the title, i'm using an USB sound card device.
Our office has an old program that we still need to use when upgrading our PC's to Windows 7. The program will run fine if you start a windows virtual PC and install and run it. However, based on the needs of our office, I need to be able to run Windows XP mode and simply have an icon for our users to click to take them to the application. If I install the program in windows XP mode, and then add a shortcut to the file under all users/start menu, a shortcut is placed in the appropriate place on the windows 7 machine and I can copy that shortcut ot the desktop. The program runs fine until you restart the computer. Once you restart the computer and double click the link on the windows 7 desktop to the program running in windows XP mode, it says:
Cannot start virtual application. The application is blocked from running as a virtual application.
I read some other posts saying to put a new shortcut in the all users/start menu folder. This works, but only until our users restart their computer. The next time the computer is up, the problem happens again. This is not an acceptable solution to have to create a new shortcut for each workstation each time the computer is restarted.
The error states:explorer.exe - application error The application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000022). Click OK to close the application. When I click OK, i just have a black screen. I can get the task manager going by hitting control, alt, delete. I've tried to start explorer.exe from the file menu, but get the same error.
The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000142) Click on OK to terminate the application. The only option is to click ok. I am deathly afraid to turn off my computer because my brother recently did and that caused it to freeze at the blue HP startup screen, but thats another thread. I get this error whenever I launch anything. I can't even open up the task manager. I really need help. I don't currently have a way to back up my stuff either but I am working on it. By the way, I don't know that my brother was having the same error message as i was or if he was having any error messages. I use zone alarm full security suite if that helps at all, I don't know if it deleted a registry file or something.
I have recently installed Win7 Ultimate on my PC - was running Vista Home Premium.Had no problems until last week. I had a BSOD, which surprised me, haven't seen one of those in a while. Major error on my part to not write down all that sais, but there it is.Now I have NO sound at all. Actually, my computer does not recognize the monitor speakers, nor does it recognize external speakers, when I tried using a pair of them instead, nor does it recognize headphones when plugged in to the jack. The computer informs me that the device is simply not plugged in - even though it IS.I have downloaded and updated every driver I can think of to no avail. So I am now at a standstill as to what to do.
For my radio project and podcasts I've invested in a digital microphone. I also got a wireless keyboard and mouse with volume control, not very important but it factors in.
When I start Windows I have two sound devices: The actual speakers and this ProSound mic. Under the actual speakers would be things like VLC and under the mic would be other vital things like Iron (Chrome). If I want to watch/listen to something online I have to plug out the mic. This puts all the programs under the Speakers device. If I plug it back in these programs RETURN to the ProSound mic.
So first of all I need to know why my programs made this choice and how do I put a stop to it? Secondly how do I make my speakers my primary device so I can use these awesome volume controls I paid out the *** to use.
I am having problem with a device connection sound without any device being connected and when the sound pops up, my pc freezes for few seconds and its happening very frequently like every 10 minutes.
I could really do with some help. Just installed W7 64 but when I come to install drivers it cannot even detect my x-fi SB at all. Thus I cannot install the driver. No sound at all - I am at a loss. Does anyone have a solution? ps I have a ASUS ABN-SLI Nvidia chipset.
I tried to replace 3 files in the system 32 folder, and must have made a mistake along the way leaving my laptop inaccessible once logged on. The three files were:
uxtheme.dll themeui.dll themeservice.dll
I received these error messaged when logged on:dwm.exe - Application error the application was unable to start correctly (0xc000007b). Click ok to close the application.explorer.exe - Application error the application was unable to start correctly (0xc000007b). Click ok to close the application. Can system restore revert back the files so it was like i never attempted the patch?
I don't what happened but all of a sudden a message box opens up on my windows 7 laptop and it says this " the application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000142). Click OK to close the application" . I clicked ok but the error message box keeps returning back.If i remember properly, this happened when I tried installing some wallpaper.system seems to be working finw with all applications, but this message box is quite annoying.
After virus attack on ibm Thinkcentre 832077g, I formatted xp and installed windows 7 but there is no sound . If I try to play a song, there is a message saying no sound device installed. Which drivers should I install becuse have tried many without success.
I have system with multiple Sound playback devices. Most of the time it needs to be on the first entry in the list of devices (HDMI output with me).I'm looking for a way that when I have manually set it to another device in the list, and then shut down the pc that at the next boot it automatically reverts back to the first in the list without manual intervention.
i am in the process of setting up my audio preferences but i'm confused about various aspects of windows 7 audio settings in the device/sound manager. my computers are part of a recording studio setup, and as such, one of my computers has an maudio 1010lt audio interface card. as my studio is also an entertainment setup, i began to investigate if win 7 has some kind of audio "profile" manager, whereby i might be able to select various "devices" or outputs that would automatically be selected when various applications are started. for instance, when i use my daw(reaper), i would like win 7 to automatically select the maudio card as the in/out as the maudio outputs(8) are connected to a patchbay, and are normalled to be connected to an analog mixer. however, if i am listening to audio on the net, like Internet etc, i would like the mobo onboard stereo(front) outputs to be selected by the os, as they are connected to a pair of standard computer powered speakers, as i do not want the mixer powered on during regular listening. and then there is the movie thing. since my mobo has stereo, 5.1, and 7.1 as well as s/pdif output jacks,(and input), from what i understand, the s/pdif output must be used for sound surround as the onboard realtec chips decode dvd etc to the s/pdif outputs, which i would like to connect to a soundsurround reciever, with 5.1 speaker setup, of which the front speakers are used for standard stereo listening..anyway, as i looked at the device/sound manager screen, i saw an "hdmi" device in the list.(see screenshot). well, i don't have anything in the computer that has an hdmi output. so, i am curious. can anyone tell me what this "hdmi" device is or what it is referring to?
I'm on the verge of re-installing Windows. It started earlier today, I'd just installed Call of Duty: World at War off Steam, tried to launch it and it kept crashing. Tried a few things, but nothing worked and read it might be a sound driver issue. Tried updating my ASUS Xonar DX drivers to the latest version, but once the PC had restarted I had no sound and a the speaker on the taskbar said there's no output device installed.
Uninstalled these drivers and tried installing the ones I was using and same problem. I opened up playback devices and the default speakers were my monitor as I connect via HDMI from my graphic card to my main monitor. The "set default" option was greyed out and I couldn't change the default speakers unless I disabled the HDMI audio, but still I had no sound. Tried uninstalling the graphic drivers and re-installing the drivers first, but still nothing. Even when the only audio device was the sound card, there was no sound.
If I troubleshoot, it says the audio device is disabled, even though it isn't. I've checked all the audio services and they're all running. I even tried enabling my onboard audio again, but I still get the same problem of the audio device apparently being disabled. I ran an sfc /scannow, and that fixed a few things, but still no audio. Only thing I can think of doing now is just re-installing Windows.
I installed windows 7 on my Sony VGN NR498E and I want to know if I need to install another sound card to have my sound input devices option availiable again.
For about 2 weeks ago my battery on my laptop (ASUS Eee PC - Windows 7) got low and the computer turned off. When I turned it on again the sound on the computer didn't work, the sound symbole on the right corner on the bottom has a red X sign. I've just recovered my computer to fabric-new and the sound still doesn't work and the red X symbole is still there. When clicking on the sound symbole with the red X on the right corner in the bottom it says "identifying problem..." and then it says that it couldn't identify the problem... My webcam on the computer doesn't work either after that.On control panel it says "no audio device installed" and when I deleted RealTek and downloaded it again it still doesn't work.
am trying play music on Internet i am not able to hear anything and when i open windows media player it wont play put all the other sounds on my computer work properly.
And now I am so screwed. I can't even open services.msc, I can't install an update, I can't run updates and I can't re enable anything because I can't get into services to do it. Please don't say system restore because I disabled it.
