View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently upgraded my computer from XP to Windows 7 now I have no sound! In device manager there is a yellow ? mark by multimedia device and PCI input device, which I am sure is an audio card I installed trying to get sound. My system is a Gateway Desktop E - 4100, Sound Blaster Live audio card. Have all ready tried Intel, Gateway and Mircrosoft to locate the newest drivers to fix the multimedia drivers with no luck what so ever. I even payed and downloaded a program to scan and update my computer with the latest driver (DID NOT WORK) and spent hours and hours searching the web to locate the driver.

I have an emu 1820m soundcard installed in my computer. It seems to be functioning perfectly. I can play dvd'd, cd's, iTunes, etc and the sound plays through my speakers without a problem. I want to record some sounds from a dvd but i cant get anything to record. Recording device is set to Wave EMU DSP as the default device. Im using Audacity to record and have set the recording preference device to be Wave (E-MU _-DSP). When I hit record I get an error 'Error while opening sound device. Please check the input device settings and the project template'And I cant record anything. In the built in Windows sound recorder, when I hit record, I get this error 'An audio recording device cannot be found' Everything seems to be functioning perfectly, yet i just cant record anything.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI'm in a pickle with my machine and Windows 7 after this latest update. On startup I get an error from MMDevApi.dll saying that it might not run on Windows or... something else. This also occurs anytime a program tries to use the sound card ie. WoW, Yahoo IM, Live IM, SL, etc. I've updated my sound card drivers to the newest ones. I still get an error that says the device is detected when going to "Sound Devices" in the control panel.
Trying to adjust the sounds themselves leads me to the Windows Audio thing... which won't start even from the component list.

normally i only have 1 sound card/sound device in sound settings when i use hdmi with my tv, i have 2 sound devices in there, and i can choose 1 one of them as default, and all applications i run will play sound on that default device, so i choose hdmi (my tv) as default, open chrome for my mom watch movies, sound play on my tv (hdmi), that's what i want and i open firefox, go to Internet, sound also play on my tv (hdmi), that's not what i want, i want it (firefox) to play sound on my pc, so my mom can watch movies on tv, and i can watch Internet on pc
is there a way to do this? a way to set per-application sound card/sound device setting? i know some programs like windows media player or vlc can let you choose sound card, but firefox, chrome do not. i tried indievolume and it did not work, even uninstalled, reinstalled but did not work, or is there any browser that let me choose sound card setting (like wmp and vlc, but these 2 are not browser)
and does anyone know if mac or windows 8 has this feature as built-in? if windows 8 does then i might upgrade
I've had this problem since windows vista, in windows xp i could record my line in perfectly, without any problems, but now, even if i enabled Stereo mix(tried mono also) it won't make any sound when i try playing some music.
Anyony that can help me with this?
Also, as stated in the title, i'm using an USB sound card device.
After virus attack on ibm Thinkcentre 832077g, I formatted xp and installed windows 7 but there is no sound . If I try to play a song, there is a message saying no sound device installed. Which drivers should I install becuse have tried many without success.
View 2 Replies View RelatedFor about 2 weeks ago my battery on my laptop (ASUS Eee PC - Windows 7) got low and the computer turned off. When I turned it on again the sound on the computer didn't work, the sound symbole on the right corner on the bottom has a red X sign. I've just recovered my computer to fabric-new and the sound still doesn't work and the red X symbole is still there. When clicking on the sound symbole with the red X on the right corner in the bottom it says "identifying problem..." and then it says that it couldn't identify the problem... My webcam on the computer doesn't work either after that.On control panel it says "no audio device installed" and when I deleted RealTek and downloaded it again it still doesn't work.

After installing Windows 7 in a Mini Mac I have no Sound (High Definition Audio Device).
I'm running Windows 7 Home N SP1 x64. I'm using an M-Audio Fast-Track Pro device to record audio into a music sequencer (Cubase 5), through a Shure SM58 Microphone. The M-Audio box is connected to the computer via USB. I've been using this set-up for about a year now and it hadn't caused me any problems until the last few weeks. For some reason Windows is not registering any signal from the input of the M-Audio box. The box itself picks up the sound and I can hear tapping on the microphone when M-Audio is selected as the output device, but not from the built-in speakers.
I first noticed the problem in the software (and thought for the longest time that it was the software). I'm very competent with Cubase and tried everything I could think of to get it to register with no avail. It was only when I tried to use the device on another sequencer that I realised that it's not the software. Then, since the mic works fine, the box itself is picking up the signal and out-putting it through itself, it must be something wrong with the computer or the OS.
I've re-installed the M-Audio driver, didn't make any difference. I've set the M-Audio as default in both playback and recording tabs in the sound control panel. Playback works fine. One thing that's really strange is that when I open manage sound drivers in the control panel and tap on the mic, neither the levels in recording nor playback even flutter, even though I can hear it pretty clearly through the headphones.
as stated in the subject, I am unable to hear any sound from my speakers since upgrading to the windows 7 64 bit. I followed the other post that I found on this but I still cannot hear any sound.I have a dell inspiron 531. The hardware ids from the device manager areHDAUDIOFUNC_01&VEN_10EC&DEV_0888&SUBSYS_1028020E&REV_1000
HDAUDIOFUNC_01&VEN_10EC&DEV_0888&SUBSYS_1028020EI have installed the realtek drivers and they as working but I still get nothing but a slight hiss from my speakers. I have tried them on my laptop and they work fine.Does anybody know what might be causing this? I am half tempted to get a new sound card but I am reluctant as it says my existing one is working (it just seems to have forgotten to tell the speakers!)
If anybody knows a fix for this I really would be eternally grateful

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have recently installed Win7 Ultimate on my PC - was running Vista Home Premium.Had no problems until last week. I had a BSOD, which surprised me, haven't seen one of those in a while. Major error on my part to not write down all that sais, but there it is.Now I have NO sound at all. Actually, my computer does not recognize the monitor speakers, nor does it recognize external speakers, when I tried using a pair of them instead, nor does it recognize headphones when plugged in to the jack. The computer informs me that the device is simply not plugged in - even though it IS.I have downloaded and updated every driver I can think of to no avail. So I am now at a standstill as to what to do.

For my radio project and podcasts I've invested in a digital microphone. I also got a wireless keyboard and mouse with volume control, not very important but it factors in.
When I start Windows I have two sound devices: The actual speakers and this ProSound mic. Under the actual speakers would be things like VLC and under the mic would be other vital things like Iron (Chrome). If I want to watch/listen to something online I have to plug out the mic. This puts all the programs under the Speakers device. If I plug it back in these programs RETURN to the ProSound mic.
So first of all I need to know why my programs made this choice and how do I put a stop to it? Secondly how do I make my speakers my primary device so I can use these awesome volume controls I paid out the *** to use.
I am having problem with a device connection sound without any device being connected and when the sound pops up, my pc freezes for few seconds and its happening very frequently like every 10 minutes.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm running Windows 7 32 bit and I just noticed that all my drivers for the USB controllers, Audio/Sound devices and the Networking internet (Broadcom Netxtreme Drivers) have all died. They indicate that a Code 39 is the problem. I tried to load some of the drivers but it wouldn't allow them to install. I did a last known configuration attempt, no results. Did a system restore and it gave me an error message saying it didn't restore properly. I am trying to get the drivers online, burn them to a disk and load them. I have no internet access on that PC and the USB ports obviously don't work. I can get drivers on this PC online. Some I can't find. I did the uninstall driver, disable, all the usual for this problem. I am stumped. Any recovery attempts produce nil results. Thanks to Microsoft, I have no installation disc to do a new install or a backup image.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have system with multiple Sound playback devices. Most of the time it needs to be on the first entry in the list of devices (HDMI output with me).I'm looking for a way that when I have manually set it to another device in the list, and then shut down the pc that at the next boot it automatically reverts back to the first in the list without manual intervention.
View 2 Replies View Relatedi am in the process of setting up my audio preferences but i'm confused about various aspects of windows 7 audio settings in the device/sound manager. my computers are part of a recording studio setup, and as such, one of my computers has an maudio 1010lt audio interface card. as my studio is also an entertainment setup, i began to investigate if win 7 has some kind of audio "profile" manager, whereby i might be able to select various "devices" or outputs that would automatically be selected when various applications are started. for instance, when i use my daw(reaper), i would like win 7 to automatically select the maudio card as the in/out as the maudio outputs(8) are connected to a patchbay, and are normalled to be connected to an analog mixer. however, if i am listening to audio on the net, like Internet etc, i would like the mobo onboard stereo(front) outputs to be selected by the os, as they are connected to a pair of standard computer powered speakers, as i do not want the mixer powered on during regular listening. and then there is the movie thing. since my mobo has stereo, 5.1, and 7.1 as well as s/pdif output jacks,(and input), from what i understand, the s/pdif output must be used for sound surround as the onboard realtec chips decode dvd etc to the s/pdif outputs, which i would like to connect to a soundsurround reciever, with 5.1 speaker setup, of which the front speakers are used for standard stereo listening..anyway, as i looked at the device/sound manager screen, i saw an "hdmi" device in the list.(see screenshot). well, i don't have anything in the computer that has an hdmi output. so, i am curious. can anyone tell me what this "hdmi" device is or what it is referring to?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm on the verge of re-installing Windows. It started earlier today, I'd just installed Call of Duty: World at War off Steam, tried to launch it and it kept crashing. Tried a few things, but nothing worked and read it might be a sound driver issue. Tried updating my ASUS Xonar DX drivers to the latest version, but once the PC had restarted I had no sound and a the speaker on the taskbar said there's no output device installed.
Uninstalled these drivers and tried installing the ones I was using and same problem. I opened up playback devices and the default speakers were my monitor as I connect via HDMI from my graphic card to my main monitor. The "set default" option was greyed out and I couldn't change the default speakers unless I disabled the HDMI audio, but still I had no sound. Tried uninstalling the graphic drivers and re-installing the drivers first, but still nothing. Even when the only audio device was the sound card, there was no sound.
If I troubleshoot, it says the audio device is disabled, even though it isn't. I've checked all the audio services and they're all running. I even tried enabling my onboard audio again, but I still get the same problem of the audio device apparently being disabled. I ran an sfc /scannow, and that fixed a few things, but still no audio. Only thing I can think of doing now is just re-installing Windows.
I installed windows 7 on my Sony VGN NR498E and I want to know if I need to install another sound card to have my sound input devices option availiable again.
