Sep 29, 2012I recently done a new build, not with the same specs I have on here; i5 2500k p8z77-m pro sapphire radeon 6870 I cannot get any sound through the front+back headphone jacks, realtek doesnt detect any audio devices, however i can mess around with the settings to get windows to say i have speakers+mic and 2nd audio devices plugged regardless if anything is plugged in or not.

Jan 25, 2012i am in the process of setting up my audio preferences but i'm confused about various aspects of windows 7 audio settings in the device/sound manager. my computers are part of a recording studio setup, and as such, one of my computers has an maudio 1010lt audio interface card. as my studio is also an entertainment setup, i began to investigate if win 7 has some kind of audio "profile" manager, whereby i might be able to select various "devices" or outputs that would automatically be selected when various applications are started. for instance, when i use my daw(reaper), i would like win 7 to automatically select the maudio card as the in/out as the maudio outputs(8) are connected to a patchbay, and are normalled to be connected to an analog mixer. however, if i am listening to audio on the net, like Internet etc, i would like the mobo onboard stereo(front) outputs to be selected by the os, as they are connected to a pair of standard computer powered speakers, as i do not want the mixer powered on during regular listening. and then there is the movie thing. since my mobo has stereo, 5.1, and 7.1 as well as s/pdif output jacks,(and input), from what i understand, the s/pdif output must be used for sound surround as the onboard realtec chips decode dvd etc to the s/pdif outputs, which i would like to connect to a soundsurround reciever, with 5.1 speaker setup, of which the front speakers are used for standard stereo listening..anyway, as i looked at the device/sound manager screen, i saw an "hdmi" device in the list.(see screenshot). well, i don't have anything in the computer that has an hdmi output. so, i am curious. can anyone tell me what this "hdmi" device is or what it is referring to?

Oct 20, 2009 I've got a bit of a problem with my audio with my new installation of Windows 7. Previously I had Vista installed, and had no problems with my Realtek HD audio. Installed Windows 7 everything looked good, then realized my Sony A/V receiver model SA-WCT100 was not outputting my movie collection in surround 5.1 like it use to using Vista.
I figured, that�s cool, probably need to install ac3filter_1_51a, I had to in Vista, and it worked a treat when I enabled SPDIF pass through. I guess I should mention I�m using HDMI all the way through, from my PC to the receiver, from the receiver to the LCD. Well, that didn't fix it, everything still plays in stereo. After scratching my head and clicking here and there, I finally found a little tab in the sound settings of my Realtek HDMI setting called 'Custom'.
I selected it, it said to enable AC3, DTS, etc click this box will require a restart. I said awesome, sounds like just what I need. I clicked, and rebooted. I went into WMC, and setup my audio wizard again, and selected 5.1, and tested, and this time it reported 5.1 on my Sony receiver as before it only showed 2 channels (Stereo). I played some of my DVD rips, and bam my DVD rips were playing surround sound again.
I was like that was easy enough. I went to test my Blu-Ray rips that I had converted to WMV HD using TMPGEnc Xpress 4.0, and the video started to play, and I was like, wheres the damn sound. I noticed on the receiver, it didn't report anything for sound. I had no idea what was going on. My surround sound was finally working for everything, but my WMV HD videos had no sound output. I mean I can't even get stereo or anything out of them now. At least before the WMV played in stereo, now I can't hear anything.
Please someone tell me what could be the problem, I don't know what else to try. I don't want to have to revert back to stereo, and disable the magic box under custom in my sound setting.
I have downloaded the latest Realtek drivers form Realtek, version 2.35 for the ATI HDMI audio, and the Digital Audio. I also have the latest drivers for my integrated Radeon 3200 graphics card. I read that sometimes a high resolution can affect the audio, so I lowered my resolution from 1080p, and that didn't help, which I figured it wouldn't.
How To Automatically Change Audio Device When Inserting HDMI Cable
May 4, 2012My lapotop is HP Pavilion 9750 running Windows 7 Enterprise (with the latest updates). When I'm inserting the HDMI cable to view my screen on the TV it automatically shows the video, but I have to manually change the default playback from "Speakers" (Realtek High Definition Audio) to "Realtek Digital Output" (Realtek High Definition Audio) so I could hear the audio from my TV and not from the computer.
Is there a way to make that switch automatically when I connect/disconnect the HDMI cable?
HDMI Sound Works But Audio Jack Not Working
Jan 17, 2013I built a barebone kit and installed Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit, I installed all the drivers correctly but for some reason Windows keeps detecting the front audio jack as if someone is repeatedly pushing in and out headphones(no pun intended). Audio doesn't work at all through front and back audio jacks, only HDMI. I only get static from the audio jacks.

Audio Device Is Disabled - No Sound At All
Jul 25, 2010I'm on the verge of re-installing Windows. It started earlier today, I'd just installed Call of Duty: World at War off Steam, tried to launch it and it kept crashing. Tried a few things, but nothing worked and read it might be a sound driver issue. Tried updating my ASUS Xonar DX drivers to the latest version, but once the PC had restarted I had no sound and a the speaker on the taskbar said there's no output device installed.
Uninstalled these drivers and tried installing the ones I was using and same problem. I opened up playback devices and the default speakers were my monitor as I connect via HDMI from my graphic card to my main monitor. The "set default" option was greyed out and I couldn't change the default speakers unless I disabled the HDMI audio, but still I had no sound. Tried uninstalling the graphic drivers and re-installing the drivers first, but still nothing. Even when the only audio device was the sound card, there was no sound.
If I troubleshoot, it says the audio device is disabled, even though it isn't. I've checked all the audio services and they're all running. I even tried enabling my onboard audio again, but I still get the same problem of the audio device apparently being disabled. I ran an sfc /scannow, and that fixed a few things, but still no audio. Only thing I can think of doing now is just re-installing Windows.
Realtek HDMI Output ATI HDMI Audio - Not Plugged In
Oct 28, 2012I'm trying to hook up my TV with my computer, and for the most part it's working. The video goes through and I get how to control it and everything. The only thing not working is the sound.
I'm using an HDMI to HDMI cable, and like I said the video is fine. Also, when the cable is plugged into my boyfriend's laptop, the sound comes out of the TV.
So this must mean the problem is with my computer specifically. Although, this computer is only a month old, so I wouldn't think anything is out of date.

The salesperson over the phone told me I needed to download a new sound driver, but offered no help in identifying which one. My system is not muted I have tried to update the driver from both Realteks and MSIs web pages - no luck. I have tried to connect my headphones in both rear and front - no luck. When I play audio - I do see green bars in under the playback tab under sound devices. I do have the Realtek HD Audio Manager I have noticed that when I mark "Disable front panel jack detection" in the Realtek HD audio manager, the headphones appears to be connected in the playback tab, when I uncheck it, the headphones seems to be disconnected in the playback tab.

Feb 13, 2012from the digital audio device? every time i plug in my $20 speakers i got from target, the audio device changes from my soundmax driver (which comes thru the lappy speakers) to a digital audio device in my little speaker icon thingy and i don't know how to manually change it back except thru reinstalling the drivers and rebooting a bunch of times,when i go to properties it only shows the enabled device and i can't find the other output option. if i reinstall the soundmax drivers it switches back to laptop speakers but this is obviously a hassle.

Feb 12, 2012I have a HTPC setup. PC includes an ASUS MB with on-board video and audio, including options for either separated analog 7.1 audio out or HDMI out (among other output options). Current setup routes Audio and Video via HDMI to Pioneer VSX-1020 A/V receiver, and routes video from there to HDTV via another HDMI cable. OS is Win7 Ultimate x64, w/SP1.

When I play audio files, the receiver can fake the signal into all 5 channels (I don't have a sub, so the .1 is not relevant here), so there's no issue of the receiver not accessing the available speakers.
The main issue is this: When I look into the Sound Control Panel, under Playback Devices, the active/default device is ATI HDMI Output. Also listed are Speakers (not plugged in), Realtek Digital Output and Realtek Digitial Output (Optical). I do not have any analog cables plugged in, nor do I have an S/PDIF (optical/coax) connected. The HDMI works, but only gives me the option of Stereo (2ch). When I go to the Configure screen for the ATI HDMI Output, I see a list of Audio Channels, but that list ONLY contains Stereo.

I have 'checked' "shoe disabled" and "show disconnected" in those menus. [code] I use my HD TV as my primary monitor for gaming, so having sound through laptop speakers and not TV is quite annoying.Perhaps my only solution is another sound card?
