No Sound, No Sound Device Detected, Drives Installed

I'm in a pickle with my machine and Windows 7 after this latest update. On startup I get an error from MMDevApi.dll saying that it might not run on Windows or... something else. This also occurs anytime a program tries to use the sound card ie. WoW, Yahoo IM, Live IM, SL, etc. I've updated my sound card drivers to the newest ones. I still get an error that says the device is detected when going to "Sound Devices" in the control panel.

Trying to adjust the sounds themselves leads me to the Windows Audio thing... which won't start even from the component list.

Cannot Find Creative Sound Blaster Xtreme Audio Sound Card
My fairly new PC: Core2Quad Q6700 on ASUS P5K (Intel P35) with RealTek HD Audio chip, plus Creative Soundblaster Xtreme Audio internal sound card.

I've installed Windows 7RC on a new partition on my HD alongside Vista Ultimate. I've experienced no installation problem, but Win7RC does not recognize my SB sound card at all! So, I can't even update the driver!

It recognized the Realtek chip and my external USB mic, but not the sound card that had been installed for audio quality!!

To come to think of it, I've had the problem with Vista, with my Dragon Naturally Speaking Pro 10.1 not recognizing the "existence of any sound system" in an administrator account I used to install the software. However, the software recognizes all my audio systems in my other user account (admin) and the software runs smoothly!!

Any connection? What's the problem here? Anyone have any idea?

Edit: I also found that the stereo mix feature of the Realtek HD audio isn't recognized either. (Recognized in Vista and my old XP)

Sound Blaster Audigy PCI Card Sound Problem
I installed windows 7 home premium today on my computer on a dedicated hard disk. All went fine and did windows updates to all my driver issues. At this point I had sound. I then installed ubuntu 9.10 on a separate physical disk without issue. Ubuntu installed a boot loader (Grub) which recognised windows 7 and I could boot into both OSes (dual boot), both working happily (including sound).

I then installed some apps in ubuntu (incl. wine) and now when I boot into windows 7, I don't have any sound. The sound icon is happy, the device manager is happy. I haven't touched the windows disk or installation, yet the sound doesn't work. The sound hardware is a Sound Blaster Audigy PCI card.

This doesn't make sense surely. Any ideas?

Regular Cataclysmic Sound Failures In Asus Onboard Sound
After installing windows 7x64, the sound initially worked. Then I noticed that during any audio playback the sound would pop and crack regularly.

Now on occasion, the audio will work with popping and cracking for a while, and then have a cataclysmic failure errupting in massive static before it stops working all together.

Sound works with popping and cracking again after a cold boot, but the problem repeats every few days.

I am using an Asus M2N-Plus SLI Vista Edition Motherboard which uses the C-Media 6501 on board sound-card
The problem is not changed by using headphones, or using the case front head-phone jack

Attempted to use Vista x64 drivers, which do not work,
Neither Asus nor C-Media have released updated drivers for windows 7x64 for this card

Does anyone know of a set of drivers that work? or a way to work around this?

Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium Sound Card Compatibility
I just bought a new pc from Dell. I opted out of buying the SB sound card they had as an option and now I am sorta regretting that. I loaded RC 7100 as soon as I got the machine and after going through this forum I am sorta left with the impression that SB cards don't work with Win 7. Is that really the case?

I was looking at an "Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium Sound Card" but if it will just cause me grief it's not worth it. Does anyone have a suggestion as to what I can get and not pull my hair out trying to get it to work? The main game I play sounds sorta mediocre with the on-board sound.

HP Laptop No Sound From Speaker But There Is Sound Through Headphone
I have hp dv1738od and have upgraded to Windows 7, previously Windows XP. Everything seem to be working ok except, for the sound. Window 7 automatically installed the driver, and said the sound card was working properly. But there was no sound through speaker.

I removed the driver and reinstall the driver that I got from HP website that work for Window Vista. Installation went through with no problem and Device manager indicated no isssue on sound driver. However there was still no sound coming out from the speaker, only through headphone jack.

I read tons of forums, and some has suggested that it may be the jack connection. I tried plugging in and out numerous time, and that did not solve the issue. Sound could be heard for like a sec, when headphone was being plugged out but it goes away quickly. To determine if it was hardware or software issue, i reinstalled Window XP and there was sound through speaker. So for sure it is not the speaker issue.

I'd like sound to come out of both hdmi and the sound port that way I can here music through the stereo but when I watch standard television programs I can here through the television and turn off the receiver. the only way I've found to control the sound is to set hdmi or sound card to default in the control panel>sound. so switching back and forth is a big pain.

No Sound With Audigy 2 Sound Card
This is probably just a stop gap but I was finally able to get my old Creative Audigy 2 card to work with 5.1 surround by using Audigy 4 drivers for Windows 7. I haven't been able to adjust bass and treble yet but I've been too busy just enjoying the music to get around to looking for ways to make that happen. Music sounds better than it ever did in XP or Vista!

It may not be a complete fix but at least it'll get you some sound until they come up with driver for those of us with older sound cards. Be patient as it takes a while for the complete install!

Sound Issue With 2 Different Sound Cards
I have been unable to install either of my sound cards, one is an on board AC'97 link controller integrated in VIA® VT8237 VIA VT1617A 6-channel S/W audio codec and my other is a Soundblaster Audigy value. Could this be related to a wrong motherboard driver? What are the odds both would  not work! BTW I have tried over 20 different drivers for each. Any ideas?

P.S. I had one hope which was the windows driver which was available through windows update but it failed and i can't seem to redownload it...

FPS Drop Because Of Sound Card / Sound Card Drivers
I've recently upgraded my os to windows 7, and noticed a significant

fps drop in all games I've installed. The problem seems to come from the sound card.

I've disabled it in device manager and I gained a steady 15-20 more in most of the applications.

Any idea what to do? Is it a driver issue or something? I got an Athlon 64x2 4600+, Asus M2N mainboard,

2 gigs of ram, Gainward 8800GS video card, Sound Blaster Live 24bit soundcard.

Drivers are downloaded from creative.

No Drives Detected - Message During Win7 Installation
I'm using Win 7 Professional x64 rtm from MSDNAA.

When i try to create a clean install, everything goes smooth untill the Partition selection screen. I get a "no drives were detected" notice and the list is empty. It offers the Load drivers option but i dont really know where to get them.

I have Striker Extreme motherboard, and a wdc wd5000aaks SCSI hard drive (connected via SATA).

Im running Vista Ultimate x64 at the moment. If i use vista's install dvd to see if it finds hdd drive during installation, it does find them. Also if i try to use Windows 7 installer from within Vista, win 7 installer finds my hdd normally.

What should i do?

Seagate Hard Drives Not Detected By Installer
I connected a Seagate 320GB 7200.10 hard drive to a P35 chipset system and attempted to install Windows 7 RTM onto it. The installer got to the part of detecting hard drives, but could not detect this drive. Native SATA mode was enabled, and AHCI was enabled. I disabled Native SATA mode, then after that failed I also tried disabling AHCI by setting the controller to IDE mode. Still, the Windows 7 installer refused to detect the drive.

I replaced both the SATA & power cables, verified the drives are detected by the AHCI firmware and the BIOS, and I even tried different motherboard SATA ports to no effect. I took a second , identical Seagate 320GB SATA hard drive, this time pre-formatted it inside Windows 7 RC using NTFS defaults, and again (with and without AHCI and Native SATA mode) Windows 7 will not see this hard drive either!

I even downloaded the AHCI preinstall drivers and loaded these using a flash drive. When I did Windows 7 would autodetect the ICH9 driver and I would click Next. Windows 7 would suddenly see the drive, but all options to format or create a partition are grayed out. Clicking the more info button gives me this error message:

"Windows cannot be installed to this disk. This computer hardware may not support booting to this disk. Ensure that the disk's controller is enabled in the computer's BIOS menu."

I used the AHCI preinstall drivers specific for the motherboard (Vista 64)  and I also tried the AHCI preinstall drivers from Intel for Windows 7 RC 64. As of this writing Intel has not released official Windows 7 RTM Intel Matrix Storage Manager drivers. In frustration I installed a SSD (with AHCI and Native SATA mode enabled) and suddenly Windows 7 detects the SSD without needing to load any driver (as would be expected, since Vista and 7 include Intel Storage Manager drivers by default already). I installed Windows 7 RTM 64bit onto the SSD without issue.

15 minutes later I was at the Windows 7 desktop, and Windows 7 was showing the Seagate 320GB hard drive under "My Computer" as normal. I could even use the Seagate hard drive as normal as if nothing was wrong. For kicks I launched the Windows 7 installer inside Windows 7, but as you can see below it still refused to see the drive, despite the drive being shown under My Computer: (Since I can't use thumbnails, here's the direct link: http://i111.photobucket.com/albums/n129/Chanur64/Box/Howpossible.jpg )

Also I should note I previously had Windows 7 Beta installed on an IDE drive in this exact system, and had no problems with it. Windows 7 RTM would allow me to install to an IDE drive and allowed me to install to an SSD, but it cannot see and cannot install onto both Seagate 320GB hard drives. These Seagates are known good drives previously part of a RAID 5 array.

If anyone knows what is going on or has some ideas I've not tried I would love to hear from you and get this figured out. Suffice to say this is not a promising start for Windows 7.

USB Device Detected Won't Start (code 10)
I've done a fresh install of Windows 7 yesterday on my desktop PC and I want to use the virtual PC for some USB hardware that doesn't have any x64 drivers.

I can choose the USB devices fine in the virtual machine, they are detected and XP starts the usual hardware install wizard.

However one of my devices gets the yellow exclamation mark in the device manager with a code 10 (device cannot start).

The virtual machine runs XP SP3, my laptop runs XP SP3 as well and there is no problem on there with this hardware. This leads me to believe that it might be a windows 7 Vmachine issue that is causing this.

I've tried removing the hardware and installing it again, but that didn't solve the problem.

Any ideas for a possible solution?
