Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit Only 2.3gb Out Of 4gb Installed?
Nov 23, 2012Why Windows 7 only shows 2.3 gb out of 4gb, even though it's 64bit OS? I tried reseating the ram and updating BIOS.
Specs:
Acer 5742
Core i3 M370
4gb Ram installed
(laptop)

Feb 24, 2010I just loaded windows went as far as accepting key code #'s and it went to update registry and it crashed. After waiting to see if was going to reboot five minutes I rebooted and it starts with wanting an option to start windows and it will run to the start of the logo build and crashes and restarts the cycle of windows startup options ???

Feb 29, 2012I installed windows 7 ultimate, i did not just upgrade I did the more advanced install. I iinstalled it on a HP pavillion g series that was already running windows 7. I did back it up fully. However, the problem is that it is now not recognizing a properly installed network adapter.

Nov 4, 2009I'm in a pickle with my machine and Windows 7 after this latest update. On startup I get an error from MMDevApi.dll saying that it might not run on Windows or... something else. This also occurs anytime a program tries to use the sound card ie. WoW, Yahoo IM, Live IM, SL, etc. I've updated my sound card drivers to the newest ones. I still get an error that says the device is detected when going to "Sound Devices" in the control panel.
Trying to adjust the sounds themselves leads me to the Windows Audio thing... which won't start even from the component list.

Feb 28, 2010I got windows 7 ultimate 32bit free from my school, and decided that I wanted to clean install, and not upgrade it. I transferred all my files off, booted the laptop up with the windows 7 disk, and proceeded to clean install. I didn't have the drivers cd for my laptop, but I just wiped my drive and installed 7 anyway. Now I have windows 7 ultimate 32bit, and can only use 3 of my 4 gigabytes of memory.. The thing I don't really understand is the whole upgrading option, and like, I know that it's a windows 7 32bit dvd, but it doesn't seem right to go from 64bit to 32bit. So is there anyway I can make it 64bit without having to buy a new dvd? And if not, how much am I missing out on, with not having 64bit, especially with having 4 gigabytes of ram?

When I turned it on again the sound on the computer didn't work, the sound symbole on the right corner on the bottom has a red X sign. Feb 17, 2012I have just upgraded two HP DV9000 series laptops to Windows 7 (one from Vista and one from XP) and according to Device Manager they both have all the drivers installed just fine. Only there is no sound on either of them. The sound was fine on XP and Vista.. I know the speakers are working because when I touch the blue controlls above the keyboard the speakers emit a chirp (which is more than just a beep) but there is not a peep from Windows. Both laptops use a nVidia chipset and i have installed the drivers from HP's support pages both with and without compatibility mode. I have also used a couple of different sound drivers but still silence.

May 7, 2012System was fine. Started it up this morning and all my sound was gone. I've re-installed the Asus drivers 50x. Tried the same in Safe Mode. I am using an external speaker set-up. They are Altec Lansing speakers. They have a powered sub and left and right main speakers and also left and right rear speakers. I don't have the rear speakers connected and I haven't for years(without issue).Anyway, booted up this morning and I have no sound from Windows, the internet, or my music or movies.

Before posting, I did some searching, and found the following link which includes screen shots. Looks like the answer is "No", at least not that I could find. I just built a PC and mainly want my Windows 7 experience to be that of Home Premium, except for just a couple of extra features I wanted. That probably doessn't sound so smart, since I paid for ultimate, but I can explain (sort of). So how different are the menu selections etc between Ultimate and Home Premium.

The sounds have improved greatly, but there is still less quality then what it was with XP. I would like to learn further and find appropriate drivers or software to enhance and bring out the rich bass and loud instruments. WMP 12 doesn't have sound, but videos are nice and better pictures. You tube videos play alright as does other sites that has players or use You Tube or Viehmo, etc...There appears to be a lot of issues with WMP according to my own research.If any ideas as to how I can get going w/finding how I can get regular sound as good as before with XP,
