Aug 31, 2012I have a laptop that has been upgraded to Windows 7 from vista. In the beginning everything was fine and things worked really fast. However, for past few months I have had dreadful performance. Whenever I check my CPU is at 100% and it takes ages to do anything. Even opening a chrome tab takes 5 minutes. I tried doing driver checks to confirm nothing was wrong.After trying hard, I just re-installed Windows 7 but no luck. Then I formatted my hard disk and installed windows 7 again. Now it works fine but I do get the extreme slowness sometimes.While doing all of this, one thing I noticed that if I was to put my laptop to sleep and bring back it might start working absolutely fine. Before reformatting it worked 50% of times. Now again it has worked whenever I tried. I wonder if this is a CPU power setting issue? I have already set the power settings to have full performance

Mar 22, 2012I've just installed fresh Win 7 ultimate x64 via USB. Right from the start it was working really slow but it just got worse.
My hardware is decent: Intel i7 CPU, 12GB RAM, WD Caviar 500GB system HDD. Task Manager shows that only 13% of RAM is being used and 0% of CPU. Still, I can barely work on it - it keeps freezing everytime I click on more than one window...
Once I had to do a hard restart since it didn't want to shutdown normally, and then I got startup failure screen. Startup repair didn't do anything but it still managed to boot somehow.
I tried to optimize win process but that didn't do anything either.
I believe it might be the HDD, since I ran Win normally on other HDD with same hardware... But I did use current one as backup storage without a problem.

Oct 16, 2010I have an ASUS G73 laptop and have installed an OCZ 240GB SSD drive. The laptop currently has Windows 7 Home premium 64 on it on the original drive. I would like to install a new Windows 7 Professional 64 version on the new drive and be able to dual boot. I have formatted the new drive and it is recognized in My Computer and I can save files on it.When i tried to install 7 Pro, it would not show the new drive as an option to install on. I tried this by inserting the disc in the DVD drive and by rebooting with the DVD in the drive. I also took the original drive out of it's bay and tried to reboot and could not get it to install. I then moved the new drive to the original drive's bay and rebooted and could not get it to install.When you all finish giggling about all the stuff I went through, could you post a guide on what I can do to get it to install?

Nov 19, 2009I just installed Windows 7 yesterday from Vista (I got a CD through the upgrade because I got a new computer) and the install went fine. It worked for about 4 hours perfectly, but suddenly it just froze. I couldn't do anything with the mouse or keyboard. After manually shutting it off (power button) I can turn it back on, it loads the desktop and I am able to move the mouse for a few seconds, then it freezes.
I've tried booting in Safe Mode (what I'm in right now) and removing all the startup programs, and that didn't help. So now I've come for help.

Missing Icons For All .exe's On System / Except Newly Installed Ones
Sep 5, 2012I have: reset the icon cache, reset registry settings (perhaps regretting it now? no effect), tried IconPackager.So the problem is that I have missing icons for all .exe's on my system, except newly installed ones. I also have a problem with any folder that contains a file. (when a folder has a file in it, it shows a preview of it inside the folder: that is the icon that is messed up, the normal folder with nothing in it is fine).I replaced that icon a while ago and then tried to set it back with IconPackager, but it never reset that icon (all the rest are fine). Lastly, shortcut icons are also screwed up.I can manually reset shortcut icons by re-referencing the .exe, but not the .exe icons themselves.
I believe this may be to do with the fact that IconPackager was intended for XP or something like that, because I've readthat the way icons are linked to applications is done differently between the two OS.So, what I need is a way to, en mass, link all .exe's with their own icons that are bundled inside the .exe.Be it an app, a cmd line, whatever.I also need a way to reset that folder problem. I've tried with the Registry to no effect.
Newly Installed 7 64 Bit Slow Web Page Loading?
Sep 7, 2011just installed two new Windows 7 computers with Windows 7 Professional 64-bit.When opening Internet Explorer the home page displays instantly but then if i try and visit other pages (even something as simple as Google) the pages take an age to display.I thought it might have just been the connection but if i try the same pages on a Windows XP machine or on my Mac, they display a lot quicker.

Nov 4, 2009I'm in a pickle with my machine and Windows 7 after this latest update. On startup I get an error from MMDevApi.dll saying that it might not run on Windows or... something else. This also occurs anytime a program tries to use the sound card ie. WoW, Yahoo IM, Live IM, SL, etc. I've updated my sound card drivers to the newest ones. I still get an error that says the device is detected when going to "Sound Devices" in the control panel.
Trying to adjust the sounds themselves leads me to the Windows Audio thing... which won't start even from the component list.

When I turned it on again the sound on the computer didn't work, the sound symbole on the right corner on the bottom has a red X sign. Feb 17, 2012I have just upgraded two HP DV9000 series laptops to Windows 7 (one from Vista and one from XP) and according to Device Manager they both have all the drivers installed just fine. Only there is no sound on either of them. The sound was fine on XP and Vista.. I know the speakers are working because when I touch the blue controlls above the keyboard the speakers emit a chirp (which is more than just a beep) but there is not a peep from Windows. Both laptops use a nVidia chipset and i have installed the drivers from HP's support pages both with and without compatibility mode. I have also used a couple of different sound drivers but still silence.

Feb 12, 2013i tried to download the movie make windows essential from ms website, after the installation, i have noticed that my computer now start to lag (that's right, the whole os is lagging, not in game, or when doing particular things, just lag whenever) and there's a buzzing sound accompany with it if i am playing a Internet video. i was monitoring my task manager and i notice that every lag the cpu usage would get spike up by a bit. the reason why i suspect it is a virus is because when i restart my computer, there's an option that tells me to force restart or close the following programs, but there were no program on the list, just the two options "force restart" and "cancel" what is even more weird is that it doesn't seem to act up anymore after i stopped the avira virus scan, but my computer were being slowed after restart.

Apr 29, 2011I have a HP DV9000 (DV9610us). I installed a new motherboard, hard drive and Windows 7. I installed all drivers for the laptop, but have no sound. I have tried multiple options, but still no sound. I can hear a clicking sound every once in awhile (might be when a windows sound comes on). Also when I touch the mute and vloume up I can hear the clicking. I am stuck and out of options.Showing sound driver is Conexant High Definition SmartAudio 221.Also 2 Base System Devices and 1 Coprocessor drivers are not letting me add drivers to them either, but I only care about the sound right now.

Installed Audio Driver But No Sound
Jul 10, 2011I installed my audio driver for my gigabyte ud3 b3 motherboard. I got the driver from gigabyte's website. It is the 64 bit windows 7 version. Now I have realtek hd audio manager installed. I have a set of speakers plugged in which I know work because i plug the cord into my iphone and the speakers work great. Now I plug into the green input hole (which by the way, I should say that everything worked great before I recently reinstalled windows 7). When playing music I look at the mixer and see that all programs playing the music and the speakers have the green bar going up and down to the music. But the bar that says system sounds does not report any sound ( no green bar going up and down).

Audio Driver Installed But Sound Not Working
Jun 12, 2011I'm working on fixing a Toshiba Satellite laptop. It is a very years old and I reformatted it and tried Windows XP and Windows 7. I installed the Realtek audio drivers straight from the website (HD Audio Driver) but no luck. The Windows Update driver gives me a RTKHDAudio BSOD and I tried fixing that with some advice online to no avail.

Jan 4, 2012I'm running Windows 7, 64-bit on an Intel Corei32100T processor on a Gigabyte H67A motherboard with 8gb ram, connected via HDMI to a Sony Bravia. No sound or video card as its all on the processor. I want to set up the system to record a line-in source for (1) my turntable and mixer, and (2) interface for my guitar and microphone. My device manager shows both Intel(R) display audio and Realtek HD audio. Clicking on the speaker icon in the notification area brings up the Intel display audio mixer with three sources, the Sony, system sounds and Firefox. I'm sure this is controlling the system audio output. No way to a recording mixer. Bringing up the Realtek audio manager still shows me no way to set recording levels. Since I'm planning to use the pc for recording LP to disc (on my second thousand, now, switching from favorite old programs on an XP machine to the newly built system)and for live recording, properly setting up the basic sound paths in the system before setting up Audacity and Artist One from Presonus.
