just installed two new Windows 7 computers with Windows 7 Professional 64-bit.When opening Internet Explorer the home page displays instantly but then if i try and visit other pages (even something as simple as Google) the pages take an age to display.I thought it might have just been the connection but if i try the same pages on a Windows XP machine or on my Mac, they display a lot quicker.

However, for past few months I have had dreadful performance. Whenever I check my CPU is at 100% and it takes ages to do anything. Even opening a chrome tab takes 5 minutes. I tried doing driver checks to confirm nothing was wrong.After trying hard, I just re-installed Windows 7 but no luck. Then I formatted my hard disk and installed windows 7 again. Now it works fine but I do get the extreme slowness sometimes.While doing all of this, one thing I noticed that if I was to put my laptop to sleep and bring back it might start working absolutely fine. Before reformatting it worked 50% of times. Now again it has worked whenever I tried. I wonder if this is a CPU power setting issue? I have already set the power settings to have full performance
View 5 Replies View RelatedI've just installed fresh Win 7 ultimate x64 via USB. Right from the start it was working really slow but it just got worse.
My hardware is decent: Intel i7 CPU, 12GB RAM, WD Caviar 500GB system HDD. Task Manager shows that only 13% of RAM is being used and 0% of CPU. Still, I can barely work on it - it keeps freezing everytime I click on more than one window...
Once I had to do a hard restart since it didn't want to shutdown normally, and then I got startup failure screen. Startup repair didn't do anything but it still managed to boot somehow.
I tried to optimize win process but that didn't do anything either.
I believe it might be the HDD, since I ran Win normally on other HDD with same hardware... But I did use current one as backup storage without a problem.
I have an ASUS G73 laptop and have installed an OCZ 240GB SSD drive. The laptop currently has Windows 7 Home premium 64 on it on the original drive. I would like to install a new Windows 7 Professional 64 version on the new drive and be able to dual boot. I have formatted the new drive and it is recognized in My Computer and I can save files on it.When i tried to install 7 Pro, it would not show the new drive as an option to install on. I tried this by inserting the disc in the DVD drive and by rebooting with the DVD in the drive. I also took the original drive out of it's bay and tried to reboot and could not get it to install. I then moved the new drive to the original drive's bay and rebooted and could not get it to install.When you all finish giggling about all the stuff I went through, could you post a guide on what I can do to get it to install?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI just installed Windows 7 yesterday from Vista (I got a CD through the upgrade because I got a new computer) and the install went fine. It worked for about 4 hours perfectly, but suddenly it just froze. I couldn't do anything with the mouse or keyboard. After manually shutting it off (power button) I can turn it back on, it loads the desktop and I am able to move the mouse for a few seconds, then it freezes.
I've tried booting in Safe Mode (what I'm in right now) and removing all the startup programs, and that didn't help. So now I've come for help.

View 15 Replies View RelatedI have: reset the icon cache, reset registry settings (perhaps regretting it now? no effect), tried IconPackager.So the problem is that I have missing icons for all .exe's on my system, except newly installed ones. I also have a problem with any folder that contains a file. (when a folder has a file in it, it shows a preview of it inside the folder: that is the icon that is messed up, the normal folder with nothing in it is fine).I replaced that icon a while ago and then tried to set it back with IconPackager, but it never reset that icon (all the rest are fine). Lastly, shortcut icons are also screwed up.I can manually reset shortcut icons by re-referencing the .exe, but not the .exe icons themselves.
I believe this may be to do with the fact that IconPackager was intended for XP or something like that, because I've readthat the way icons are linked to applications is done differently between the two OS.So, what I need is a way to, en mass, link all .exe's with their own icons that are bundled inside the .exe.Be it an app, a cmd line, whatever.I also need a way to reset that folder problem. I've tried with the Registry to no effect.
It's kinda distracting to see the highlight on newly installed programs on the Start Menu. It makes want to click it even if I don't even need to open the program anyway.How do I stop this from happening every time I install a new program?

The issue is that a sound similar, if not identical to the "Page Loaded" sound from Internet Explorer. I haven't used Internet Explorer in two years, instead I use Firefox 3.16.16. This noise is not only annoying but scares me that a virus or trojan is running in the background using Internet Explorer to download more viruses (Which is the reason why I switched to Firefox in the first place.) The sound is so annoying that I literally have to mute my headphones and speakers to prevent that noise from playing. The sound plays even when Firefox isn't running and even plays when I'm playing some video games. View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently re-installed Windows 7 from some rescue disks, and everything, with the exception of Internet Explorer is now running fine! Basically whenever I load a web page in IE it crashes after a short time (5 - 10 seconds), and I then have to exit with CTRL + SHIFT + ESC (Task Manager)! Inside task manager I actually have to terminate the IE processes, as IE won't exit if I attempt to shut down through the Applications tab.
Initially IE8 was installed from the rescue disks, and I have since upgraded to IE9, but both versions are behaving just as badly as each other.
I have even tried to start IE in "No-Add Ons" mode from the "Accessories" menu - however after a short time it still crashes. Now I have no add ons enabled, I have deleted everything (in IE history), scanned for viruses (there are none), and I am wondering if there is some way of repairing IE?
P.S.: I have installed other browsers, but I actually need IE for running some Microsoft Online Services, all other browsers are only supported in "lite" mode!!!
When I try to start up Windows normally, I type in my password for the user account and then it just freezes, it doesn't load. So I think, okay, I'll just try to start up it in Safe Mode, no problem. But when I try to start it in Safe Mode the computer freezes at classpnp.sys and doesn't continue. I'm at a loss about what to do.
My computer is a Gateway Desktop, running Windows 7 Home Premium (64bit), intel premium processor, 1 TB hard drive, 6 GB DDR3 memory. I tried using the "Last Known Good Config" option, to no avail. I got the "Replacing invalid security ID" message. I let that go for about an hour when I stopped it, as it was going nowhere. If it makes any difference, I have also installed another operating system (Ubuntu).
My son's laptop is really slow loading Windows. If I go into Safe Mode, it comes up really quickly and the internet works - all normal. But in the regular Windows, it takes forever and the internet does not connect (it might if I left it long enough but I haven't had the patience). I did an AntiMalware scan which showed nothing and am currently running an Antivirus - both in Safe Mode. I was going to do a System Restore but only one is showing on the system and I wasn't sure where to go with it.

I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit.It was working fine yesterday but sometime this morning it started hanging up. Basically what happens is the username screen comes on, I click the user, then it makes the little chime.I can see the recycle bin, I can access the start menu but I can't do anything after that. My network connection icon in the task bar freezes for about 3-4 minutes.During that time I'm unable to open any program until it connects. After that, everything works fine.All I've installed today was a windows update, an updated driver for my Networking card, and GWFL client. I've tried everything I know to do with no progress. I've never had any problems and suddenly last week while trying to get on IE, my home page would act like it was loading but it was just a white screen that disappeared about 10 seconds later. It works great connecting to a network license when i set it up initially using admin account outside of a domain. But as soon as i sysprepped the pc and join a windows domain and login as any user (whether they have admin rights or not), spss v18 (pasw) takes about 5-6 minutes to load - which is not at all acceptable. In fact there is no splash screen or anything to warn users it is loading, and just appears after several minutes...I've checked domain firewall settings (even disabled firewall), but still no joy.However, once spss has loaded after several minutes, any other users logging in afterwards get a quick spss load. Its almost like the first login on the PC from cold takes forever, any reason for that?Again this only happens when the PC is in a domain and being sysprepped with spss on it.

I have 5 hard drives installed. 3 for storing sound sample libraries, 1 SSD for the OS, and a spare 2TB hdd to install any other programs I need and for general storage.Most times when I try to open Sonar X1 (software for music production) it takes about a minute to load. I know it's not the power of the computer holding it back because it has, although rarely, loaded up straight away. Does anybody know why this might be happening? I've installed Sonar X1 on the spare 2TB hdd.On a possibly related note,some mp3's on the 2TB hdd play for a while and then stop, only to continue playing about a minute later. Driving me nuts.
I have a new HP Pavillion Slimline Model s5-1224 running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit on SP1 with Intel Pentium 2.8 Ghz processor, 6 GB Ram and and a 900 GB (800 GB free) HD. I have an external graphics card (Triton TRI-UV150) connected via USB to accomodate Dual HP 2010 Wide LCD monitors.
When the graphics card is connected to the CPU, it takes upwards of 1-2 minutes to load the homepage (Google). Without the graphics card connection, home page load is almost instantaneous.
I have uninstalled/re-installed the graphics card driver with the help of the manufacturers' tech support and the issue is still not resolved. Manufacturer states that "the driver cannot cause slow page loads" but it only happens when the card is connected to the CPU.
I'm moving from an XP machine to a Windows 7 machine and have transferred my project files (engraving files as well as .bmp). When I try to open a project folder in any of the programs I use it takes 2-3 minutes for it to load all the filesThere are just over 10,000 files in the folder, they are all small files (nothing larger than 100k), and on the XP machine it loads in an instant.I have done everything I can find online (turned off indexing, changed the folder prefs, etc) and nothing works. When I open the folder within Windows it loads in an instant, however when I try to open it within a program is when it dragsDoes anybody have any ideas of what else I can try outside of threatening the computer with physical violence?Also as you can tell by my screen name I'm a mac user that has to use PCs at work.
