Dec 4, 2011I am using win7 professional 64-bit os. It takes about 8-seconds to come for logon screen. Whether below mentioned procedure is suitable for the solution of slow startup:
1. Click on the Start orb, enter "regedit", and press the "Return" key.
2. Go to the following "folder" (also known as "keys" in Windows registry slang): HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionPoliciesSystem
3. If you see an entry called "DelayedDesktopSwitchTimeout" on the right-hand side of the folder, move on to the next step. Otherwise, you need to create the entry. To do that, right-click on a free space in the folder, and select "New/DWORD (32-bit) Value". Type in "DelayedDesktopSwitchTimeout", and press "Return".
4. Double-click on the entry. Now all you need to do is to enter the number 5, and click "OK".

Dec 4, 2012So my computer, one year of age, started to stop loading at the windows loading screen. Last week, O was on my computer browsing the net and listening to music when I click on a button in iTunes and the computer crashes. I restart the computer but when it gets to the starting windows loading screen, it loads for a little bit like normal, but then the screen flashes black and the monitor says it loses signal and stays disconnected. The computer stays running even when the screen says there is no signal.
So I think for a bit and decide to just reload windows because my computer was starting to get cluttered anyway. So I reinstall windows without a problem and the computer runs fine for the weekend and Monday. But this morning it started to do this all over again.
I ran the windows repair disk and it told me that there is a device plugged in that should be unplugged and restart. But I had nothing plugged in so I tried unplugging almost everything short of the power cable and monitor, but still no luck.

Oct 16, 2011my computer started freezing on on the windows loading screen, so i had to turn my computer off again, wait a few seconds and start it agin, it then worked on the second time. i couldnt get into any kind of safemode.when i got into windows i had loads of generic win32 errors, i couldnt acess the internet or any anti spy/virus programs. i shut it down and it hangs so i have to manually swith it off.i was on xp so i thought i would format my computer and install windows 7. This has helped with all the win32 errors but my computer still freezes on start up at the windows loading screen and still requires me to swith it off and restart it, this works most of the time. might have to do this 2 or 3 times.i have looked in the events viewer and it says i have 3 errors: error 6 kernel process power / restart manager.

Windows 7 Running Slow After Logon For Over 5 Minutes?
Feb 5, 2013I've got Windows 7 64 bit Home user premium on a Compaq Presario Cq61 Laptop. Bootup is reasonable in terms of time and log on screen appears reasonably quickly. The welcome screen takes 1 minute before going to the desktop. After that it runs really slow for about 5 minutes. There is a lot of disc activity but I don't know what service, etc is causing it. I de fragged, run system file checker, used MS config to ensure only 6 startup items and turned off numerous services but still can find out what is running in the background for so long. After 5 mins the machine runs well. I do use Avast anti virus and it loads a definition file on startup. I disabled that setting to manual update only but it made no difference. I don't use any other anti virus.

But in the regular Windows, it takes forever and the internet does not connect (it might if I left it long enough but I haven't had the patience). I did an AntiMalware scan which showed nothing and am currently running an Antivirus - both in Safe Mode. I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit.It was working fine yesterday but sometime this morning it started hanging up. Basically what happens is the username screen comes on, I click the user, then it makes the little chime.I can see the recycle bin, I can access the start menu but I can't do anything after that. My network connection icon in the task bar freezes for about 3-4 minutes.During that time I'm unable to open any program until it connects. After that, everything works fine.All I've installed today was a windows update, an updated driver for my Networking card, and GWFL client. I was overclocking my CPU also, but since I'm troubleshooting this, I rolled it back to the default settings.I've uninstalled GFWL, and I've rolled back to the previous drivers and it still does this.

Sep 13, 2010troubleshoot slow startup for spss v18 (or pasw as its known now). It works great connecting to a network license when i set it up initially using admin account outside of a domain. But as soon as i sysprepped the pc and join a windows domain and login as any user (whether they have admin rights or not), spss v18 (pasw) takes about 5-6 minutes to load - which is not at all acceptable. In fact there is no splash screen or anything to warn users it is loading, and just appears after several minutes...I've checked domain firewall settings (even disabled firewall), but still no joy.However, once spss has loaded after several minutes, any other users logging in afterwards get a quick spss load. Its almost like the first login on the PC from cold takes forever, any reason for that?Again this only happens when the PC is in a domain and being sysprepped with spss on it.

I have 5 hard drives installed. 3 for storing sound sample libraries, 1 SSD for the OS, and a spare 2TB hdd to install any other programs I need and for general storage.Most times when I try to open Sonar X1 (software for music production) it takes about a minute to load. I know it's not the power of the computer holding it back because it has, although rarely, loaded up straight away. Does anybody know why this might be happening? I've installed Sonar X1 on the spare 2TB hdd.On a possibly related note,some mp3's on the 2TB hdd play for a while and then stop, only to continue playing about a minute later. Driving me nuts.

Jul 17, 2012I'm moving from an XP machine to a Windows 7 machine and have transferred my project files (engraving files as well as .bmp). When I try to open a project folder in any of the programs I use it takes 2-3 minutes for it to load all the filesThere are just over 10,000 files in the folder, they are all small files (nothing larger than 100k), and on the XP machine it loads in an instant.I have done everything I can find online (turned off indexing, changed the folder prefs, etc) and nothing works. When I open the folder within Windows it loads in an instant, however when I try to open it within a program is when it dragsDoes anybody have any ideas of what else I can try outside of threatening the computer with physical violence?Also as you can tell by my screen name I'm a mac user that has to use PCs at work.

Mar 24, 2012Recently, my computer starts up windows and after the loading screen it just sits at a black screen forever with a cursor and it doesn't even make it to the log in screen. I have tried safe mode with the same results. What I've Done So FarTried to Repair Startup with Windows DVD Tried to use sfc /scannow at boot (Says pending changes and needs to restart) Tried logging into my Ubuntu partition and virus scanning (None found) Tried copying Reg Files from Regback into config while I was in Linux Tried to Repair Install (But I can't log into Windows ) Tried to bootrec /fixmbr /fixbot /RebuildBcd (Which destroyed my dual boot linux grub, but I was desperate. And still nothing) Interestingly though, after I do /RebuildBcd command it says something like "Found Windows Installations: 0" Tried to System Restore (Gave me an Error, wouldn't you know) At this point I'm not to confident that this can be fixed. If anyone has any ideas I'm willing to try. Or if you have any snazzy suggestions on how I could fix it using another computer, I have a different Windows Pro x64 computer that I can put the HD in if there's someway I can save my data/fix it/repair install from there. I just don't know how.
Edit: I finished the chkdsk and there were no bad sectors, though it did give me a message "Failed to transfer logged messages to the event log with status 50."I did a Windows Defender Offline scan with no viruses and I'm currently scanning with Kaspersky Rescue disk. I don't believe it is a virus, I think it's a corruptregistry at this point. I had just cleaned my registry with CCleaner before the shutdown that led to this >.<
Slow Cold Boot - Only Catalyst Control Center Loading Up As Startup Item
Feb 9, 2011I have installed windows 7 on my computer about a year ago. I've never had any problems to the point where I would need to reinstall the OS, however, I've noticed that on cold boots the system runs painfully slow, it will boot up fairly fast on a normal restart tho, like 20-35 seconds. On a cold boot it can take about 1-2 minutes to load in windows, and then once that happens its not so much it going slow as that there is a point during which I cannot click anything or else it will take forever to accomplish.
What I mean by this is, it will load to my desktop and for a period of about 3 more minutes I will try to right click on the desktop and it will do the circle thing for like 20 seconds before giving me the drop down menu. If I right click again right after, it shows up instantly. Same with trying to open up a file within those first couple of minutes. It will take like 45 seconds to open a picture. I have tweaked my windows 7 to startup only necessary drivers and turned off search index along with Aero.
My HDD isn't fragmented and I've got about 120gbs out of 450 available. So its not that bad. Now some of you may say, well its just loading the processes. But I only have catalyst control center loading up as a startup item. And even after it loads. It goes through a wierd 3-4 minute phase in which everything is slow as hell. Then works perfectly fine.
