No Sound From Stereo Mix / How To Record From Headphones ?

Dec 30, 2009

I have upgraded from Vista to Windows 7 week ago.I use audacity to record audio from stereo mix.But I am not able to record from stereo mix anymore since I upgraded to Windows 7.Because there is no sound coming from Stereo Mix,it used to work before I upgraded to windows 7,I have searched for solutions,tried installing virtual drivers etc. and it has nothing to do with audacity,I am sure that I have configured it right.I have few questions regarding this problem;

-Is there any way to fix the sound issue with Stereo Mix?

-If not,is there any way to record from headphones with audacity,or set headphones as a recording device?

-Any other ways to record audio I am hearing from my headphones with audacity?

I am using : Realtek High Definition Audio, driver version 6.0.1.5882

Stereo Mix To Record Sound From Card Missing

Sep 20, 2012

Im trying to playback audio for sstv through my sound card and the "Stereo Mix" option is missing as an audio input (recording) method. I have some in-product sound card that came from Dell so I've been told it may not be possible. But I've found free software that does record in the same exact way that "Stereo Mix" would. Is there any universal sound drivers out there that would add "Stereo Mix" as an option?

Advice For Regular Panasonic Stereo Headphones?

Nov 14, 2011

I have a set of regular Panasonic Stereo Headphones. When I plug them in, they work well but they do not cut the sound from the Laptop Speakers.I have looked through the Control Panel but can't find any way to hopefully cut the sound of the speakers and have it just come through the head phones. Maybe I'm missing something.I have a fairly new Toshiba Satellite Laptop and was hoping that I could make that change through Win7.

Sound In Stereo, Not 5.1?

Nov 30, 2012

So i've had this problem before but randomly windows 7 seems to make it so my 5.1 speakers only send out stereo through 2/3 speakers. I've never found the cause or the fix of it until now, and even then I only know the cause. So as far as i can tell it was when i plugged a 3.5mm jack in the front port that it changed to stereo, so i'm guessing that a setting has changed due to that lead and it hasn't reverted back?So.. anyone have any ideas? I've tried looking in the settings/playback options but to no luck.Windows 7 - up to date.Connected over an optical leadZ5500 Speakers Homebuilt pc - not really worth going into the specs.

After I reinstalled my computer I saw that stereo mix is not recording any sound, so I searched for a solution on other forums , but nothing worked.Than I found this forum and I saw the thread "Jack output reassignments (Fix)" and I changed the registry binaries, but still nothing. Realtek Audio Drivers And Stereo Mix Sound Problem

Jan 16, 2010

I Built my computer recently on christmas day. I got all the drivers and my motherboard came with sound drivers however I got the Realtek Drivers for my board since they were not on the disc (Or for some reason did not get installed) But anyways the drivers are all working fine i've had no problems with my computer at all yet however whenever i try to record or transmit on ventrilo (VOIP) with Stereo Mix there is no sound. When i record on audacity with stereo mix nothing is recorded. There is just no sound.

The option is for stereo mix DOES exist and i know for sure that my motherboard has stereo mix. My friend also built a computer around the same time (Christmas break) with most of the same parts. He has my exact motherboard and his is working perfectly fine. The mobo im using is an EVGA X58. To anyone who can help I thank you and i will respond if you need to know any specs.

Can't Record Sound Any More

Sep 19, 2010

I have Windows 7 and have successfully recorded sound clips using the Accessories Sound Recorder. Next time I recorded a sound I carelessly plugged the mic into the earphone socket. Naturally I was unable to play back a previously recorded sound so I fiddled with the settings (I'm descended from a long line of idiots). Then the penny dropped and I plugged the mic into the correct socket, now because of my fiddling I can't record clips that will play back. I can play back my earlier clips.

Virtual XP - No Record & No External Sound?

May 13, 2012

I tried another forum with this, but didn't have any replies, so I'll try this forum as a last resort before uninstalling it as it's more hassle than it's worth:I have set up a VM. It was working fine yesterday apart from the networking which I now have operative. However:Yesterday the attached USB soundcard was working fine when activated for both playback and record. Today it isn't.t is available in the USB dropdown as unknown device. Attaching it allows me to hear external sounds.Releasing it stops the sounds, so it is being recognised at some level or other.System sounds come through the host machine's sound system. There is only an 'MS RDP Audio Device' in Control Panel|Sounds for playback; there is no record.Yesterday it was a (virtual) Soundblaster with the USB device available as an alternative in both Record and Playback. The USB SC is a good quality device with a combined Mic and Digital input and a stereo output. Although there is a USB expansion card fitted to the host machine, the USB sound device is not on it

Cannot Record Streaming Sound On Windows 7 Laptop

Mar 5, 2012

I used to be able to record sound. I used to have a vista system and was never able to record sound (what I you hear i.e. streaming sound) so as soon as I got my new windows 7 laptop it was the first thing I checked. I have selected the SoundMix as my default device, I did that when I first got the laptop and as I said I was able to record the streaming sound, now I cannot however and looking at the recording devices, everything is set to default and as the guide shows. I used Roemer software free HiQ recorder because it shows the levels when sound can be detected by the software (the left and right levels move up and down showing that sound is being detected) and nothing is showing there at all. The levels don't move. The built in sound recorder doesn't record anything either and the volume level box is completely empty.

Is their some other setting or properties that has some how switched off or muted or something? I have been through the RealTek HD Audio panel and tested everything. I do have sound, I can listen to music so its not like I have no sound entirely. Also I have an inbuilt microphone in the lid of the laptop and it's on. If I tap the mic hole on the lid you can hear it is on and the sound recorders don't record even the sound of my tapping the mic! Again, I used to be able to record sound and now I cannot! In the living room we have a desktop with the same sound card, RealTek HD Audio on Windows 7 and that records sound as well.

No Sound In Headphones

Sep 30, 2009

I have Windows 7 64 bit and when I boot up windows without headphones plugged in, the sound works fine through the speakers but when I plug in the headphones they do not work. If I unplug the headphones, the sound starts coming out of the speakers. I have tried manually switching devices but that didn't work either and if I try to adjust volume the sound mixer crashes.

I just have integrated audio (device manager lists it as High Definition Audio Device and IDT High Definition Audio CODEC).

If I plug in the headphones and then start the laptop, the sound works fine through the headphones.

Any info on what may be going on?

Sound Does Not Want To Play Through Headphones

Oct 21, 2012

Sound does not want to play through my headphones. at all. I can listen to music through my headphones fine on ubuntu (dual-boot) so it is not the audio card, the headphones or the jack. I have tried re-installing the audio driver multiple times, as well as messing around with the settings in the sound controls, but nothing works. I have used both the dell.com audio drivers as well as the windows update audio drivers and they don't make a difference.

Sound From Speakers Rather Than Headphones?

I have the following problem with new Compaq 515 with Windows 7: when headphones are connected to the headphone jack, the laptop speakers will not disable and headphones or external speakers woun't work. The laptop recognizes headphones (test sounds are coming through) and they can be used for communications, e.g. Skype. The laptop has IDT High Definition Audio CODEC driver's latest version. Strangely, it is not possible to switch headphones as default device in control panel -> sound. The laptop has following options: Speakers/HP as default device and Headphones (RTC) appear as "Default Communications Device" when selected as default device. I'm not sure this is the problem but it seems strange enough

But, when i open certain programs like mumble a second playback device appears called Communications Headphones (IDT high definition audio CODEC). It doesnt matter if i have my headphones plugged. Then from the same program some sounds come out of the speakers and others from the headphones. How can i make everything to come out of my headphones or just make this second playback device disappear? Edit. I disabled and everything is fine now.

Sound On Headphones And Desktop Speakers Low

Dec 2, 2011

I have a Lenovo Thinkpad T510 with Windows 7 and have noticed the sound when using headphones it quite low. The same headphones playing the same sound on an older computer turned up all the way is extremely loud, but on this one, you can sometimes barely hear it. Even when using desktop speakers, turned up all the way, playing something in VLC media player with that sound up 400%, it is still sometimes hard to hear, and pretty much any video online, which I can't turn up to 400%, is too low to hear very well. Is this an issue with the sound card? Is there any way to amplify it?

How To Keep Surround Sound Headphones Configured To 7.1 Not 5.1

I just got some surround sound headphones. When I restart my computer after having set my sound configuration for the headphones to 7.1 (supported by these headphones) the sound configuration will be at 5.1. I don't know what is causing it to keep going to 5.1.When the set up is at 7.1 the two rear speakers are enabled. This might seem small but I play battlefield 3 and being able to better hear enemies who are behind me willter and this is one of the reasons I got the headphones so I definitely prefer these two speakers to work.

Sound Plays Through Speakers When Headphones

Oct 28, 2009

Strange problem! I have some sounds that play through my speakers when headphones are plugged in. For example, if I run Skype, the Skype will play through the headphones (properly), but iTunes will play through speakers, as will anything else.

This also happens when playing Borderlands - I have to unplug and replug headphones to get it to go back!

What gives? How to fix this? I have IDT HDA as my sound card. Windows forced me to install NVIDIA HDA as well, so I have 2 sound drivers - NVIDIA HDA and IDT HDA AUDIO CODEC.

Sound Not Switching Between Headphones And Speakers Options

Jun 25, 2011

Originally, my speakers were not playing any sound, but when I plugged in my headphones, I could hear it. I tried going to Control Panel > Sounds and then chose my speakers to be the "Default device." Now, my speakers work, but when I plug in my headphones, the sound still plays through the speakers and not through the headphones. So basically, I think the problem is that the computer cannot switch between the two without me setting one to be the permanent default one.

I have an HP Pavilion dv2911us. Another interesting point to note is that the Quickplay strip doesn't seem to be working normally. When I press the mute button, it mutes the sound, but it doesn't turn red. This also happens when I try to adjust the volume. The volume changes, but the thing that pops up to show the current volume doesn't change.

Makes the booting up noises, "Gamers Republic... BOOM", obviously coming from the internal speakers.
