Windows 7 Explorer Crashes When Attempting To Create New Libraries?

View 4 RepliesSo, recently I decided to move the windows taskbar to the right side of the screen to see if I liked it better over there. It turns out I did not, so I tried to make it go back to the bottom. Every time I try to move it to the bottom, now, explorer.exe crashes and the taskbar remains on the right. The weird thing is, I can move it to the left no problem, but not to the top.So top and bottom taskabar is fubar'd for some reason. I didn't install anything funky and I don't visit any sites that would install viruses (I only regularly visit Facebook, Google, XDA-Developers and DeviantArt, all which I believe to be safe -but maybe I was wrong)[CODE]

I'm not 100% where to put this but I have a peculiar problem with my portable hard drive. None of them work on my computer (with Windows 7 64bit). It is no problem with my hard drives as they work perfectly well and instantly on my Notebook that holds Windows XP.
The interesting thing that comes with them is that when plugged in, they do peculiar things to the system. The drive sometimes shows up but is inaccessible and crashes when I try and access it. Scanning it for errors also sits in limbo and it being plugged in has even led to it preventing windows updates from backing up system restore. Other times it doesn't show up at all and when I disconnect the drive it asks me whether or not I want to format it.
In several hours I managed to access the portable hard drive once only to be blocked by the absurd "discovering items" glitch that renders copying files impossible.
Yet about a week or so ago it was fine. It worked with no problems at all. I would pass on some hardware details but my computer is tooling around restarting at the moment.
I'm belatedly trying to create my first system recovery backup, on a system which I first installed Windows back in November 2011.I have a 1TB drive with a 214GB partition that I set up for a backup. I manually store all my media and pictures to both a separate partition on the drive, in the cloud, and on a separate external HDD, so all I really want to back up is the system image. This is the newbie sounding question to confirm my suspicions: The system drive I'm trying to back up is definitely bigger than the partition I've set aside for recovery. My C drive is a 473GB partition, and I'm using maybe a bit more than half of that currently. If this is the case, is there a way to reallocate un-used disk space from my other partitions to make the recovery partition larger, or should I be biting the bullet and shelling out for a 500GB external to cover my system recovery needs?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a HP Pavilion dv7 Entertainment Laptop. Lately, when I start up my computer, Windows Explorer (Libraries) open automatically. I can close it out with no problem but find it annoying to see it on EVERY startup. I don't know if something happened during a HP or Windows update or if possibly picked up some spyware or malware somewhere. I ran scans with Avast anti-virus, Spybot S&D, and Malwarebytes with nothing serious showing up...just cookies.Everything seems to run properly with no problems but this showing up on startups/reboots, opens on safe mode also. I checked to see if anything in startup folder...Nothing. I checked msconfig settings...can't find anything unusual.[CODE]
View 9 Replies View RelatedAs the title states Explorer is bogged down when the folders have a large number of items in them (over 500). I have searched multiple places and this topic is brought up regularly but too few solutions. The only bit of information I have is that when I view the same folder from the Computer link (in the Navigation pane) it does not slow down when I open the folder. It instantly populates the window with the folder contents.I think this is because the libraries and Favorites are virtual folders??? I don't know why this would cause Windows Explorer to freeze up for 10 seconds to display the folder contents but it is incredibly frustrating. Moving files between folders can be time consuming and has forced me to completely abandon the Libraries & Favorites.
View 7 Replies View RelatedAs described here: 'Microsoft is offering users running Windows 7 a fix designed to resolve issues related to Windows Explorer. According to the software giant, Windows Explorer can crash in certain scenarios, a glitch which also seems to be impacting Windows Server 2008 R2, not just Windows 7. It appears that the issue is not exactly new, since it affects the RTM versions of Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2, as well as the two operating systems after their first upgrade was released. Essentially, the release of Service Pack 1 doesn't seem to have resolved Windows Explorer crashes. "This issue usually occurs when you perform some operations that are related to the taskbar or to the Address bar," the Redmond company revealed.

However, when it reached the desktop, I got an error message saying that "Windows explorer has crashed blah blah" It couldn't find a solution, restarted and then crashed immediately ad infinitum. This means I can't get into my computer at all to get any logs or anything. I also tried running it in safe mode but my Keyboard doens't appaear to be "active" in the period you need to hit F8

I checked "Always show icons, never thumbnails" when ever I uncheck the box windows explorer will not last for 10 seconds am trying to locate the error and I like using the thumbnail.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI looked at some of the solutions including the error check in the c:. I've installed the ccleaner on my computer as well and still didnt work. So the problem is, whenever I am on my computer and explorer crashes it says "the windows explorer has stopped working" and after that it just restarts the explorer but my all the icons in the system icons disappear except for the clock. I tried to go and change it but I can't, the sound, internet and uac icons disappear and I can only see them again if I reboot my computer. I am running windows 7 32-bit. [URL].

View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently installed a program that was able to change folder backgrounds but uninstalled it, and I think this is what has caused this problem: Those same files show up no matter what I type in and they are all 0 bytes. If I right click one, Windows Explorer crashes.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm running Windows 7 on a Toshiba laptop bought last year. My windows explorer is currently stuck in a permanent state of crashing every 3 seconds. I've tried restarting, shutting down, running virus checks and removing all suspicious adware, removing cookies, and calling tech support. They said it was a problem with a corrupted something to do with the explorer file. It started by crashing once or twice whenever I viewed a particular folder on my desktop (all it had was some video files), and now it crashes when I'm not doing anything. Immediately crashes after reset. I'm operating in safe mode now and the tech guy said the problem is fixable from my end, but wouldn't tell me how to do it unless I gave him $160. And I don't have a credit card
If this helps, the tech guy was remotely controlling my computer and he's left open Services where he was looking at Computer Browser and he said he could fix it in one or two steps from there. The problem with the browser crash was cited as
"The Computer Browser service depends on the Server service which failed to start because of the following error: The dependency service or group failed to start."

View 5 Replies View RelatedUsing an HP G42 laptop with Windows 7 Home Basic OS.
Around 15 seconds after booting into Windows, a window pops up 'windows explorer has stopped working..windows is checking for a solution to the problem...'
After a couple of seconds, a window pops up saying Windows Explorer is starting, and then the previous windows pops up again.
I can't access any other programs when this happens. I've tried running in safe mode, and this issue doesn't come up. If done checkdisk, but this hasn't resolved the issue.
I had an F/drive failure. Got the files recovered and transfered to a backup drive, installed a new F/ drive and as I began re-installing program files, discovered I couldn't use Explorer right-click to copy data files to a different directory. I tried the NirSof shexview program to disable all context menu items, no joy, even in safe mode. I made a crashdmp file, but don't know how to open or read it. Per other threads, I've uploaded that to skydrive.
View 1 Replies View RelatedLike many people out there I'm having problems renaming, deleting, moving, copying, and playing mkv files. If I attempt to do one of the above tasks, windows explorer will crash and I have to restart my computer. I ran a cmd scannow and there indeed was a problem with my cbs log. However, that has since been repaired yet the mkv problem persists. I've also adjusted my viewing options to only show details in the folder, hoping that perhaps it was the thumbnail generator that was to blame. This also did not work. The mkv file itself doesn't appear to be corrupted. I've been able to successfully transfer some files to an external hard drive. I've been able to play these files no problem on my work computer running windows xp.
I have a feeling it's somehow tied to divX. I've attempted to uninstall the program several times using the normal process from the control panel, once with ccleaner, and currently attempting a forced uninstall with a trial version of revo uninstaller pro. None of these has so far worked. Anyone have any bright ideas, save for reinstalling my OS? Also, please keep your suggestions in layman's termsI'm by no stretch well versed in computers.
about 3 months ago I installed a software called "right click image converter" and I don't think it was removed properly, and ever since, when I right click on any folder, windows crashes and restarts itself everytime. Could anyone please tell me a good way to fix this issue without having to reformat my computer?

View 3 Replies View RelatedSince today, I've been having random freezes in Windows 7. When it freezes, all I can do is move the mouse cursor, windows explorer happens to be crashing at that point & there is no way for me to ctrl-alt-delete or ctrl-shift-escape myself out of the situation. I have to restart the PC only to be confronted with the problem again shortly after. These freezes happen at very random times. For example when I opened up the start menu and typed "cmd" and pressed enter, it froze.
Or just when I simply started up my PC and when my first action was pressing "Cancel" in an application window, it froze as well. It also froze just opening the start menu & froze opening my User (Tom) folder. I decided that it might be because of some update or one of the applications I've installed since today, so I decided to do a system restore to yesterday, which removed those applications. This however, did not fix the random freezes. I also checked my PC component temperatures in the ASUS BIOS, they happen to be fine. I'm on the PC right now, it runs fine in safe-mode.

I've been having some frustrating issues with Windows Explorer (on Windows 7), and I've pinpointed the cause to one stubborn wmv file on my external hard drive.Whenever Explorer accesses the location of this wmv file (unfortunately the root directory), the green bar at the top starts slowly running, presumably trying to load the thumbnail of that wmv file. This wreaks havoc everywhere, as any other folders I navigate to then have missing thumbnails that will not load... and when I go to "Computer", it's completely empty and the green bar atop runs indefinitely, but never makes any progress... only heating my computer frustratingly.Furthermore, when I restart explorer, the error "the remove procedure call failed" shows. Logging off or pressing Ctrl+N in explorer have provided temporary solutions so far.

I blieve it may be linked to the new video card that I installed. After I changed the stock video graphics card that came with this HP desktop station (Win 7 64-bit), this started happening. I changed the video card to yet another one - the problem still there..
I am new to Windows 7, and have the rest of my computers running XP.I have a number of icon libraries in a folder c:icons which contain contain icon libries within them. eg C:iconsanimals.ico contains further folders cats.ico, dogs.icoI have not been able to get Windows 7 to open these, although XP did. I would like to keep my Windows 7 desktop looking similar to my XP desktops.
View 2 Replies View RelatedWhenever I view a folder which contains .MP4 (H264) video files in large icon view (shows thumbnails), Windows 7's Explorer crashes. Explorer loads for a few seconds, the green progress bar shows up, and then boom!, Explorer crashes. The thumbnails are not shown before crashing.I tried setting Folder options to 'Always show icons, never thumbnails' (disables thumbnails) on the same folder with MP4 (H264) video files and Explorer doesn't crash if the MP4 thumbnails aren't shown. I tried testing in other folders containing other video formats (with 'Always show icons, never thumbnails' set to off) like .AVI/Xvid, without an MP4/H264 file, and Windows Explorer shows the thumbnails fine without crashing.
I have not currently experienced problems with other formats, only MP4/H264. The only media players that I have installed are KMPlayer and VLC Media Player which both do not install external codecs, AFAIK. The only external codec I have installed is CoreAVC, but I have been using CoreAVC for months (KMPlayer+CoreAVC is one of the first things I installed in Windows 7) without any problems (this issue just arose a few days ago).I am using Windows 7 Ultimate, 32 bit.
