i new to all of this update bios thing and i just learned how to do it today (or so i hope)but i still too scared to give it a try because 1. i never done it before and scare to loss my mobo2. i don't know what the stable version for it3. scare from blackout.anyway i need help from other user that have the same mobo that i do and update his bios allready before (it will really help if you even update it to the last version) ... i need to know if the very last version (Version 2003) of my mobo Bios is stable for it and not case any "side effects" ... because i saw some situations in the past when people update their bios and the results was : they got blue screens nonstop in different situations ,got only black screen after the pc start up,was force to format their pc (in really rare cases), make hardwares to stop wroking, make the pc slower, and etc. i really scared to try it also beacuse i don't know if there is any way to restore the bios to it older version after i update it my motherbored is ASUS P7P55D (normal one, not deluxe and etc) which i bought in the end of 2009and my bios version is still the same (i never update my bios before)Uploaded with ImageShack.usnd it really old.you can see my build at my profile.

So I installed a beta version of W7 Ultimate and it's displaying a watermark that says "this is not a legit version". I never had a legitimate product key.I want to purchase a real version and upgrade appropriately. Can I purchase an Upgrade license to Windows 7 Ultimate or do I have to purchase a Full version? Also, what if I wanted to install Windows 7 Home Edition instead of the Ultimate version. If I did this, I assume I would have to install the Full version correct?

So I bought what I thought what the full version of Windows 7 Pro online for the student discount for $65. I got it all installed and the activation key wouldn't work.Long story short I got the upgrade version on accident. So I got that refunded and I'm about to just go buy Home Premium. I need to install it. Do I need to uninstall Pro before I install Home Premium? Or will it just get rid of it for me when I install it?

I am running Windows 7 on my computer and have downloaded overdrive and the updates. When I try to download an audio book to my computer, It still gives me this error message: The version of this file is not compatible with the version of windows you are running. Check your computer system information to see whether you need x86 (32-bit) or x64 (64-bit) version of the program, and then contact the software publishe

I am buying a new PC in Spain but want Windows 7 Home Premium in English, which does not seem to be available anywhere here. So my techie guy is downloading an English version (pirate???) and at same time buying a genuine Spanish version. He says he will then use the key code from the Spanish pack to validate the English version.
Is this possible, and could I encounter any problems later? How can I be 100% sure (before I leave the shop!) that I have a validated, genuine English version of Windows 7 that will continue to work indefinitely?

I need to know if I can use a clean install disk for Windows 7 Ultimate to upgrade from Vista or if I have to use an Upgrade version?
I'm leaning towards buying the clean install disk so that if I should loose the hard drive at some future point I could just clean install Win 7 Ultimate from the disk without having to first install Vista and then upgrade.
Regardless of which type I purchase, am I better off to buy the OEM disk from the machine manufacturer (Toshiba) or just purchase any OEM disk? Of course, if I want Microsoft support then I need to purchase retail disks.

I'm trying to install some applications on a Lenovo ideapad with windows 7 home premium, 64-bit, SP1. I'm getting the following error - "The version of this file is not compatible with the the version of windows you're running." I've installed all of these specific applications (e.g. RealPlayer, Logmein, Windows 2007 Compatibility Pck File Format Converter) and many other 32-bit apps on other Windows 7 64-bit machines, including 2 other Lenovo laptops with the exact same specs, purchased at the same time, with absolutely no issue.

I will be getting a samsung N310 for christmas and among the goodies in my stocking will be an external hard drive and some ram, I want to install Windows 7 ultimate 32bit onto it. I am aware the hardware can handle it but I am researching a permanant install of the OS onto the existing built in hard drive of the samsung(XP) from the portable HDD. So far I am unlucky and I cant find a tutorial. Getting the OS is fine, its Installing the bloody thing thats got me all conflustered.
Any Help would be greatly appreciated, and I can provide further information if any one needs it to answer the question.

I was stupid enough to purchase a copy of Windows 7 Ultimate full version for my computer from someone on Craigslist. This copy was brand new and sealed. I thought it was legit. I completed wiped my computer clean and installed the software. Everything went fine - until after about a month I started getting this message saying "Must Activate Computer." After talking to Microsoft, this software was legit, but it is something called a developer's copy and it blocked my activation code because I wasn't using certain features because I wasn't supposed to have a copy like this. Of course I tried contacting the person - who is now ignoring all my e-mails. In any event...I want to go purchase a legit version from a store but am not sure what I need. I can currently use my computer, but it is operating illegally from the Windows 7 Ultimate that was installed. I do not need ultimate...home premium is fine.
1) Do I need an upgrade version or a full version?
2) What can I do with this developer's copy of Ultimate? Can I sell it anywhere to someone who is allowed to use it? I"d like to get something for it to help pay for the new one.

I'm a computer tech, and I service a lot of different computers for many different people. In the old days, I could make a bootable floppy with all my utilities on it, and be on my way. Now, of course, few people have floppy drives, but I still need a way to boot all the different computers I find, whether 32-bit or 64-bit. I created a Ubuntu Linux CD, but I don't know the software well enough to display any directory tree apart from the Linux system (I can't browse the Windows directories, or even see the Windows directories). I have a pair of new 16 GB USB flash drives that I would like to make bootable. What should I put on them, and how would I do it? I think I managed to get Win 7 64 on one, but that probably isn't the OS I want to use for my application.

I am hoping very much that someone can help me out of a catastrophic situaition after having done a clean installation of Windows 7.
The situation is that I used my 500 GB Fugitsu HandyDrive to save Windows Easy Transfer file but now neither of my two computers will recognise the HandyDrive - they just keep saying “new hardware found - looking for drivers” but don’t find any.
This is devastating as it is (or was!) almost ¾ full of months of hard work - some backed up some not (my fault of course).
I have been using the HandyDrive to work between my 18” and 10” laptops both of which had Vista.
I have the Acer Windows 7 Upgrade Kit for the 18” laptop and after 4 failed upgrade attempts and one failed clean installation, I tried one last clean installation which at last was successful. Each time I ran the Upgrade Advisor and carried out the recommendations. The Handydrive was shown as “USB Mass Storage Device” and shown as being Compatible with Windows 7.
I saved the Windows Easy Transfer file on the Handydrive.
After the successful installation of Windows 7, I carried out the Easy Transfer but was dismayed to find I had very few programs now (I had thought they would be on the Upgrade disc but cant find them). I took the Handydrive out of 18” (now with Windows 7) and plugged it into 10” (Vista) so that I could print the Upgrade Advisor file I had saved, which showed the programs I had before clean install. Disaster - it wouldn’t work! The HandDrive was not in my Ciomputer.
I have written to Fugitsu to see if they can help but in the meantime can anyone on this forum tell me what I’ve done? I will be devastated if I cant recover the data on the HandyDrive
Also how do I get the programs I am missing?

Such as a mouse, a mobile, or an external drive.I mean make them visible (in My Computer) even though they're not connected so it's easier to remember what devices I use. My memory is awful, don't ask.Obviously I know I wouldn't be able to access the files unless the devices were connected, but the point is to make their icons show up as if they were connected even though they won't actually be of any use.

I discovered what is called the $RECYCLE.BIN on a SimpleTech portable disk drive I use. It does not show up in the disk folder/file listing, but I can scan for it in the 'Find' routine (*recycle*.*)). What I am concerned with is that it may contain deleted files that need to be purged, but I can't see how to look at this $RECYCLE.BIN or delete any possible files.

I use my 4gb USB2.0 flash drive not only in order to save valubale documents, but also for portable programs. Since I got summer job in which my work-computers is changed frequently, I started using portable programs from my usb flash drive. Sometimes my work-pc's do freeze and I am unable to remove USB drive safely, so I corrupt my portable applications very fast.Maybe you know any tricks and tips on how to use flash drive as safely as you can in order to lose that risk of data corruption?I use NTFS file system, would FAT32 or FAT format be any safer in my case?

I have Windows 7 Pro official release. When viewing folders on any drive under Computer: "Hard Disk Drives" the thumbnails show for all images. This is good. When I open up anything under Computer: "Portable Devices", such as my cell phone, it shows no thumbnails, only icons. This is bad. I need to be able to manage the photos on my cellphone.
I already checked the folder settings and "display only icons" is NOT checked. So how can I enable thumbnails on my phone? Is there a setting in Windows 7, or perhaps a setting on the cell phone to allow Windows 7 to write thumbnails to the folder? It's the Storage Card on the phone, so it really shouldn't be write protected in any way.

On my new PC with Windows 7 I logged in as administrator, created a folder "Portable Programs", installed my portable programs and data into it, set up Synctoy 2.1 to synchronise it with whatever portable device I like to use (sometimes I need a portable harddisk, sometimes a USB stick is more practical).
When I connected my portable device to an XP Home computer (in desperate need of data) the "Portable Programs" folder was there but it looked empty. XP was not able to run chkdsk.
Back home I saw that there was a lock symbol on this folder. I looked into the security settings, saw System and Administrator with limited rights and no other user or guest rights. All files inside the folder looked still disappeared. After changing access rights they were back and fully accessible... but will they still be on any other computer. I'd like to be sure before any next unpleasant surprise.
BTW I get the impression that MS is using Windows 7 in a secret battle against portability. So far none of my thinstalled programs run on Windows 7, Sandboxie is a real struggle.
