I have recently been bereft of the ability to write to standard CD/DVD drive or BluRay drive with any type of blank disc. I always use windows drag-and-drop. All automatic updates are installed.Every system tool test or troubleshooter says that the two devices are working properly.They can play pre-recorded material but I simply cannot get them to recognise blank media.

View 4 Replies View RelatedMedia Player12 is not working properly. All drivers are up to date and windows says all should be working. Have 32 bit Dell Home Premium desktop. Seems the E drive is unable to read any disc I put in. I get pop-up saying insert media. I have tried store bought CDS and DVDS and still won't play them! It will Only Play the songs showing in the library. Seems it's unable to READ THE DISC!!!! Also tried to burn and tried different types of CD-ROM blank discs and won't burn either.Also tried the Microsoft FIX IT. ybe something with setting but unsure, as all worked fine till other day had the Motherboard and Main power source replaced.

View 2 Replies View Relatedi am running windows XP as of now and want to switch over to windows 7. is it possible to install windows 7 on a portable hard disk and keep the currently running xp as well so that i could insert the hard disk and change the boot sequence so that if the portable media is present, it runs 7 and when not present then it reads through the computers hard disk to boot the already installed xp.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an eSATA drive that has stopped functioning properly. I was trying unsuccessfully to install some completely unrelated software when I noticed that my eSATA drive was presenting differently. Under My Computer it now said that the drive was empty and there were four drives that appeared that said "Removable Disk (G)", "Removable Disk (H)", "Removable Disk (I)", and "Removable Disk (J)". When I select my eSATA drive, it says 'folder empty'. When I select one of the removable disk drives it says "Please insert a disk into removable disk (?). Whenever I reboot the computer with the eSATA drive disconnected, all five disk drives go away. I don't remember changing any settings or anything like that. One thing is odd that in device manager, the eSATA drive comes up as a SCSI drive. The device manager shows it as "WDC WD10EADS-65M2B1 SCSI Disk Device", but it is actually a "WDC WD500F032".

All of my Removable Storage Devices (Flash drives, External HDD) do not work with my Windows 7. When I connect them, I hear the beeps but the device sometimes show up, sometimes not and sometimes they appear after a long interval. On accessing them, Windows tell me that I need to format the drive. Well, I can't do that. It's happening with all of my removable devices, not just one. View 6 Replies View RelatedI have 6 (2 internal, 4 external) hard drives, 2 CD DVD drives and one of those drives that read every kind of media card.
My external drives don't show in Widows Explorer unless they are turned on and they are always off unless I'm using them. So it normally shows my 2 internal drives and my DVD drives, but the media card reader shows up as 5 Removable Media Drives.
It there a way to make the media card reader not show unless I put a card in it.
It would clean up the view a lot to get rid of these 5 drives displaying all the time. I'd like to see only my 2 internal drives and my DVD drives. When I have all my external drives turned on and my USB stick plugged in it's just too much!
I had windows media player set up to be able to stream content(e.g. videos, music, picture etc) from my PC to my T-box.I havnt use this feature in a while and I went to use it last night but my tbox can not pick up my PC.When I go to windows media setting I go:Stream > Turn on media streaming > Then I get a pop up saying turn it on, with UAC logo next to it.I am admin on it so it should work. View 1 Replies View RelatedI successfully installed Windows 7 64bit in AHCI mode on a PC with 3 new 3TB Western Digital WD30EZRX Caviar Green hard drives.Then I installed "Intel Matrix Storage Manager Driver [v8.9.0.1023]" & as soon as Windows restarted after installing it, Windows would not boot, & will now only boot in IDE mode.In IDE mode I have to do a system restore to the point before installation of "Intel Matrix Storage Manager Driver" to be able to boot again in AHCI mode.

I have two basic enclosures, a generic one that uses pata drives on a usb 2.0 cable and an Apricon USB SATA 2.0 adapter.Suddenly when I plug in a new drive device manager does see the drive and installs it in device manager. I can see the drive in Disk Management but it has no drive letter assigned, and therefore doesn't show up in Computer. I can easily just assign a letter in Disk Management and the drive immediately becomes usable. However, I would like to get Windows 7 to resume automatically assigning a drive letter.
I have tried a program called USB DriveCleanup. What it appears to have done is remove all installations of prior USB drives and when I plug in a drive that has been in the machine previously it then goes thru the install again. Yet still no drive letter. I think the program is doing what would manually be done by going into safe mode and cleaning out all the entries that build up there that don't appear in normal mode, then removes them. Basically it seems like a shortcut to manually doing it.
I also tried a registry fix that essentially asked me to delete the upper and lower filters. This seems similiar to fix for CD/DVD drives that no longer appear in Computer. This fix also didn't work.I tried removing and reinstalling the chipset drivers. Still no go.Running Windows 7 Pro SP1, H55 chipset.

They require to be opened manually.2. I am unable to use Drag-and-Drop in Windows Explorer to copy files to a removable disc OF ANY TYPE/BRAND, yet both drives will successfully PLAY from any media source.3. The Right-hand mouse click no longer shows the normal options. This situation applies irrespective of which mouse I use. For example, when I load OR try to copy files to a new disc, I get a message panel telling me the disc is not recognised and asking for it to be formatted.

View 1 Replies View Relatedafter trying everything to get my old computer to work I eventually gave up and dusted off my wallet and bought a new one, I bought a new Lenova i3, with win7 64bt, my old computer was win7 32bt, all my important files were on the old hdd so I removed that and put it into an external case, but when I plugged it into the new comp it says drive not formatted do you want to format, which I obviously dont, I then tried my other external hdds and they are all the same, I know there are recovery programs that will recover the data, but I am reluctant to use these as there are a lot of home movies of my family on these drives and everytime I have used a recovery program before, the recovered video files will no longer play is there a way around this

I am thinking of buying another 2x 1GB sticks of RAM to bring my total RAM up to 4GB. As Windows XP only recognizes 3-3.5GB of RAM will Windows 7 32-bit recognize and utilize the full 4GB? So basically is it worth getting an extra 1GB of RAM for Windows 7?
I recently purchased a usb 3.0 enclosure from silverstone model ts07b and a new 2 tb drive from seagate model ST2000DM001; the usb 3.0 card is from syba model SD-PEX20093. The problem I am having is that when I plug the enclosure into the usb 3.0 slot with the seagate hdd the computer does not recognize it, but when I plug in another 2tb drive from WD (caviar green wd20ears) the computer recognizes it. I know the seagate is not dead because when I plug the enclosure into a usb 2.0 slot the computer recognizes it. Now I need to know what I should replace, should I get a new enclosure or pci card?

The problems I have had with this laptop are unreal, I wouldn't recommend anyone to buy itAnyway, my current problem is that the laptop will not read my external HD that it was previsouly reading fine before.I recently got a whole bunch of important files on the external HD to transfer to the laptop. While it was transferring the files, the transfer window crashed. I ended the task and went to try again but the external HD would no longer show up in My Computer. I tried restarting, no joy. I then tried plugging the external HD into all 3 USB ports, still no joy.It won't even show up in Disk Management.
When I plug the external HD in, the light comes on so seems to be working fine. But I get no noise in Windows to say the device has been connected, no autorun, nothing.I really need the files that are on it ASAP and cannot get the files from the original source anymore. I have not tried it on anyone elses PC/laptop yet and won't be able to for some time.
I'm running a Dell inspiron 580, and a Dell ST 2310 analog monitor with 1920 x1080 resolution (recommended). The TV is a LG 37LD450. I had no trouble with it as I watched movies from the PC to TV for over 2 months. When connecting to an external display both the PC and TV would prompt me to choose either one. But now all that it shows is the PC monitor and no TV.

However, tonight my pc wouldn't recognise any USB hardware (some of which I can only assume are internal, as my keyboard and mouse are PS2). Having looked online for possible fixes, it seems that running an upgrade from my installation disk would resolve the matter.My pc is stuck on the 'Starting Windows' page and won't proceed any further. I have rebooted - but although the bios page and boot setup page can have the cursor moved by the arrow keys, hitting the 'enter' key then freezes those pages. I have tried to select 'Windows 7' as the operating system rather than 'Starting Windows' but this also freezes the pc.I now have what seems to be a rather large paper weight with a fan inside it on my desk...can anyone offer a solution around this issue?

Laptops don't recognise it until drivers are loaded.Hp pavilion dv6500 won't boot. Mbr is damaged. Can't use repair disk as won't recognize Usb drive.So I put hdd into my other laptops 2nd hdd port " Hp pavilion Dv9800 and repaired boot sector that way. Tested it on dv9800 and boots fine.Put hdd back into dv6500 and get same mbr fail message.
