PCI Network Card Showing Up As A Removable Device In Taskbar
Oct 4, 2011
If I update the BIOS on my Intel motherboard to any one of the three most recent BIOS's, my add-in Intel network card (located in one of the pci slots) shows up as a removable device in the taskbar (Much like a USB device; for example a passport removable hard drive or flash drive). However, the motherboard's network controller does not exhibit this behavior.
Intel support is telling me that it can vary as to how the devices are detected by Windows and that this is normal. I have never ever seen a pci slot card being detected as a removable device in the 20 years that I have been using Windows, so I was wondering if what they are telling me is a valid statement? It seems kind of scary that this is happening.
I have just installed windows 7 home on my core i5 2500k machine and everything was working fine, but the windows network icon on the task bar shows I have no connection even though I am connected to the internet and everything works fine.
HeI am at wits end here trying to figure out how to fix this pc. A friend came to me with the Acer Aspire One D255E with a wireless internet issue. The PC is Running Windows 7 Starter 32-bit. I immediately thought "well there must be a switch that she turned off" There is no switch on the computer for the wireless card. I thought "well there must be a driver issue, Ill go to the device manager and update the driver for it". Then when I got to the device manager... Nothing shows up for a wireless lan card even existing in the laptop, but I know it does, because A) It's a "net Book" B) she was using the internet last week. So, I thought maybe it's not showing up because thee computer needs the drivers for it first, which is unusual, but since its windows 7 starter I thought it needed a kick in the rear to get it goin. So i downloaded all the drivers for the PC using a different computer, and installed the different drivers to see which one would work. Well none of them worked, and now im sitting here scratching my head on what to do next. I have scoured the web and seen a few other people with issues like this.
Yesterday I got my friend to download windows 7 on my mac via bootcamp. I got it back today and I tried my wireless at home but didn't work. So I tried LAN line as well, which didn't work either. I went through few sites, they all told me to go on device manager and update my drives. The problem is that i can't find either modem or network adapter on my device manager.
As you can see from the screenshot on imgur, a device recently began to appear in my network. I assume the device named Jennings-PC is a wifi enabled device that is being detected by some node om my network. Any one else experiecned similar issues or know how to prevent it from appearing? My network is secured using WPA2, the device is not associated with the router in any way. [URL]
If I mount a removeable media such as USB Stick or a TrueCrypt file volume (with rm option) then I cannot pin prgms from these medias/drives to the taskbar nor pin files to the Start menu. Is there really no way to disable this No-Pin-Protection? Under WinXP this worked without problems.
After installing Windows 7 on my PC all my hard disks(4) are display as removable disks in the icon of safely remove hardware on the taskbar. Is it related with enabling ACHI mode on my system?
I have a toolbar on my taskbar titled "Programs". It has about eight folders in it. I made another toolbar, and placed it directly adjacent to the Programs toolbar, to obscure the eight folders and force it to be a dropdown menu.Trouble is, as soon as I lock my taskbar, right next to the arrow that displays the eight items of my Programs toolbar in menu-form, one of the eight items is showing up as an icon, as if the other toolbar isn't close enough to the Programs toolbar in order to completely obscure the eight items.

I am trying to recover some deleted files from my android phone (samsung galaxy s3) but the file recovery software I am using only detects removable devices yet the S3 Shows up as a portable device. Is there a way to override this, because in the file recovery software it only detects drive letters.
I tried to install window 7 to new Extreme SSD couple times but I always got the same message:Windows has encountered a problem communicating with a device connected to your computer. As you probably know the issue is that the HDD shows as removable device in the taskbar.
I have the lastest drivers available from Asmedia and it does not remove the icon from the taskbar.
I also try the MS register fix My internal SATA device appears in Devices and Printers and in the - Microsoft Answers
1- Since the sata port is not Intel , would the register location be the same for the proposed solution above to work?
2- I tried channels 0..5 , should I try any other number? The solution says that the channel in device manager it is not always the correct one. Under device manager , general tab it displays "Location 0 (Channel 1, Target 0, Lun 0)"
my brother's hdd in his laptop was going bad, it kept failing to boot. so i replaced it with another one. when i turned the laptop back on it started installing all the drivers for his hardware (windows was already installed on the 2nd hdd) and prompted me to reboot. after i did windows failed to start several times. i re-installed windows from scratch, and now his graphics card isn't showing up in device manager and windows cant find a driver for the network or ethernet card.

for some unclear reason my windows 7 which i like very much stopped showing my task bar history preview. all my recent data which were all the shortcuts to recently used apps are gone, and the taskbar stopped saving new ones. I can pin new applications but when I press right click they wont show their documnets history or pinned document as they did.
recently any programs I minimize won't show up on the taskbar, but if I alt-tab it'll show back up. I tried google for answers but I could not find anything.
i left my computer on at night and i let the screensaver go on, as i move the mouse to go to my desktop this morning. the task bar was half gone. all that was on the bottom was the start windows logo. Im wondering if my computer is set to turn off the hd or something when the computer isn't touched for 30 min.
i have problems with this happining with other programs as you can see in the picture
p.s. these programs are saved on external hard drive which i removed while working on the inside of the computer. i put it back in to but it still does this.[url]....
I have a client who had a problem on his Windows Explorer in windows 7 64 bit. When he opens the windows explorer, it will show on the taskbar but it will not show on the screen. When he click on it, it will also open. Right click on it but no option to maximize or restore. The same problem with the task manager. But there's no problem opening other applications.
In my taskbar earlier by pointing mouse i was able to see pic of running (opened) programs. now only the names of opoened programes appears. how to get previous settings...
where is the General Tab In this Network adapter? Also, I couldn't find that check box for Display Network Icon on the Taskbar? Where can I find it? Is something wrong with my new installation of windows 7?
I disabled my network adapter then restarted and now the adapter is no longer showing up in my network connections. How in the world do I get it back? I have looked at other options (like under the registry which was suggested on a couple of places). I have never seen this happen before. I even reinstalled my drivers and still nothing. How do I enable it again?
I wanted to preserve all the features of my taskbar and just stop it from showing up when I hover the bottom of the screen with the mouse (activating it with the windows key instead)
Since I use a netbook, a lot of programs i run are installed to my SDHC card. Windows 7 won't let me pin the shortcuts to the taskbar for any of my programs installed on the SDHC card. Is this a replicatable problem for anyone and is there a fix.
