Disabled Network Adapter, Restarted And Now Not Showing Up In Network And Sharing?
Feb 11, 2012
I disabled my network adapter then restarted and now the adapter is no longer showing up in my network connections. How in the world do I get it back? I have looked at other options (like under the registry which was suggested on a couple of places). I have never seen this happen before. I even reinstalled my drivers and still nothing. How do I enable it again?

I have a linksys usb600n (v2) using the Windows 7 driver from linksys. It installs and is displayed correctly in Device Manger - BUT it doesn't appear in the Network and Sharing Center as an adapter. This same device and driver were previously working just fine in this system - but I rebuilt the OS (clean install) after testing a number of security products out.
The initial install went fine - no problems that I remember - just plug in the adapter and install the drivers obtained from Linksys (Ver 3.00.01.0). I tried the same thing on the re-build and it looks fine until I go into the Network Center and can't set up wireless networking since the adapter does not appear.
SIW shows TWO (2) linksys USB adapters under Hardware/Network Adapters, but does not show the network adapters in the Network Information section.
Any ideas?

Yesterday I got my friend to download windows 7 on my mac via bootcamp. I got it back today and I tried my wireless at home but didn't work. So I tried LAN line as well, which didn't work either. I went through few sites, they all told me to go on device manager and update my drives. The problem is that i can't find either modem or network adapter on my device manager.

I'm having difficulty trying to get my new Windows 7 pc set up to share files across my existing home (wired) network which consists of 1 desktop pc running WinXP and 1 laptop running WinXP.I want the 'C' drive on each of the 3 computers to be shared. I've had the 2 Windows XP computers set up and working like this for several years without a problem but I can't seem to get the 'C' drive on the Windows 7 computer to do the same. All 3 computers have the same workgroup name and none of them require passwords to log on to Windows. There are no problems with the firewalls on any of the machines. On the Windows 7 PC when I right click on the 'C' drive and select the 'Sharing' tab, I have set this up to be shared and when I click on the 'Advanced Sharing' button there is a tick in the 'Share this folder' box, the 'Share name' is 'C'. If I then click on the 'Permissions' button, this shows a 'Group or user name' 'Everyone' and this group has Full Control, Change and Read boxes ticked. As far as I can see there is nothing more I can do.
However from my Windows XP computer, when I go to My Network Places and double click on the icon for the Windows 7 'C' drive, I get the message "\Computername is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions. The network path was not found"I've subsequently set up a sub folder (of the Windows 7 'C' drive) for sharing by right clicking on the folder, choosing 'Share with' and then selecting 'Specific people'. I then set up a group called 'Everyone' with read/write permissions. Now I can navigate to this folder from my 2 WinXP computers.

I want to add additional icons to the 'system32pnidui.dll' file. That's where you pick which icon you want to represent the active named network in the Network And Sharing Center. I did a search in this forum on 'network icons' but didn't find anything. Aside from all the permissions restrictions what app can be used and what kind(s) of files will work in W7? I have lots of .png images that I would like to use if they will work. Lenovo T500 W7 Pro-64 Current Updates.

Installed Windows 7 on two home-network computers. Everything appeared to be good, including networking, but I could not access printers (linked through each computer) with the opposite computer. Windows update offered an update for the Broadcom 802.11n network adapter, but when I installed the update I completely lost the network.
I had to revert to the old driver in order to reastablish the network. But the printers still are not recognized. The network adapter on the secondary computer is a Linksys WMP300N. I did try turning the router off for ten seconds with the updated driver but that had no effect.
Anyone had this problem?

move on my part, especially going into this with no knowledge, but I really needed my IP changed.
This guide told me to disable my local host, so I did just that. I assumed it would still appear in the menu but I guess I was wrong. Windows won't detect that network now, but it does detect that it's disabled. I'm running Ubuntu from a disc and the internet is fine. Am I going to have to call my ISP? It's 3:54 AM right now, so I think it may me a bit too late to do that.

So, a long time ago i had wireless, but after a while it stopped working that well so i switched to a Ethernet cable. I couldn't connect to it because it wouldn't show up so i disabled the wireless and then it connected. Now back to reality..We now have fibre-optic so it's a lot faster so i tried to get my wireless signal back. Can't find it in the network and sharing centre, checked device manager as well. Have tried taking the Ethernet out to see if it would pop up but it hasn't.

Our office has 4 computers set up with Windows 7. One computer has a bunch of shared files and acts like a file server. The other two computer can connect to the \fileserver okay. No problems at all. I can not. I have tried IP address, name, going through work arounds, turning off firewalls, anti-virus, etc. But when I go to it I get the "You do not have permission to access \fileserver. Contact your network administrator to request access. Nobody else has an account set up on any machine, so i fear adding mine to the other three.

I am using the Homegroup feature of Windows 7 right now. I have four computers, configured with one account each, that are members of this HomegroupPC1, PC2, PC3, PC4PC1 configured the Homegroup and has the only shared library that is visible on the Homegroup. PC2, PC3, and PC4 all save documents to the shared Homegroup library on PC1.PC1 is basically acting as a file server.I want to set it up so that only certain accounts on each of the other three (PC2, PC3, PC4) computers can see certain folders in the shared Homegroup library. For instance, I have three folders in the shared Homegroup library located on PC1.Folder2, Folder3, Folder4How do I individually share those folders with only certain computers?
I have tried sharing with only "specific people" but it tells "windows was unable to find (name)". I have tried typing in the name of the computer to share with as well as account names.I have run the Homegroup troubleshooter on all computers and I still cannot share specific folders with specific computers. What would be the best way to share how I desire? Is there a better way than with the Homegroup or am I just doing something wrong?

I cannot get this to work for the life of me. I have searched this forum, and others.
-I have set the workgroup identically on my windows 7 machine and my 10.6 MBP.
-I CAN smb to my windows 7 machine successfully.
-Neither my windows 7 or mac os x recognize one another in their respective network "browsers"
-With iTunes open on both machines, it successfully recognizes the libraries.
I am not a networking genius, but I'm fairly literate if someone could help me out, please.
This could be a whole separate issue, but even when connected to my windows 7 machine through VPN, the machines don't show up on their respective network "browsers"

My network icon started displaying a red x about a week ago. now here's the kicker both my Wired and Wireless still work and if I hover the mouse above the icon it tells me I'm conected to my network. Now if I enter the Network and Sharing Center it tells me my access type is internet and my homegroup is Joined and that I have connection to the internet and that I'm connected by Lan but only through the full map does it tell me Lan Connection. Under Connections there is nothing listed.
Also under Change Adapter settings the only item that is currently there is my Bluetooth network. Please help more annoying than anything. And yes the internet works I'm on it right now.

Whenever I reboot my computer the network adapter has the tiny yellow mark on it displaying that theres limited or no connection. In network tab I can see 2 networks, 1 being my Home network like it should be and then there a ghost network called unidentified network. I cannot delete or poke at this network at all. While this network is active theres no connection to the internet. However I can access my router page and what not on local lan, and according to the package amount the connection works perfectly fine, it just doesnt load any actual webpages or is capable of connection to the internet.
See the pictures below to get a better picture of this. Only way to fix this temporarly is to disable and then enable the network connection, the ghost network will then go away and the network connection works fine, so how the hell can I remove this network permanently?

I'm trying to set up a file and sharing network between my PC's, 2 Win 7's and 1 Vista, and I'm having a bit of trouble. I followed all the steps in the tutorials across the web including this link, How To Share Files and Printers Between Windows 7 and Vista - How-To Geek, and the closest I could get is the Vista accessing one of the 7's. All the PC's see each other, it's just when I try to access files over the network with the 7's I get a "You don't have permission to access...contact your network administrator" error. I'm the admin on both computers and I really can't get by this. It's so frustrating, I have been doing this for like 3 days already.Just a bit of info, I do have BitDefender 2011 on both the 7's and not the Vista. Although it might not make sense, I thought this might be the issue of why the Vista can access one of the 7's, I disabled the service through msconfig -> services and startup. Also disabled the firewall on all. It still didn't fix the problem.I actually figured it out. Although I enabled sharing with "everyone" and set permissions to full control, "everyone" was not showing up under group and users in the security tab. I just added that and voila.

I've been all over these boards finding little bits of help for the issue I am having, but no solution. I've tried pretty much everything.
I have TWO PC's on my network. Since I like Star Wars I named one Ziost, and the other Mandalore. I have turned on Network Discovery on both machines in the Advanced Sharing Settings. I have both machines also set to "Allow Windows to manage homegroup connections (recommended)".
I have looked through all the services recommended by others to make sure they are running. They are on both machines.
I have both machines joined to a homegroup, however Ziost was unable to create a homegroup. The error message simply just said the homegroup could not be created on that machine. So I created the homegroup on Mandalore. No problem, it created just fine and spit out a password. Ziost was able to see the homegroup and join it just fine with the password given out.
I can access Mandalores folders FROM Ziost. And on Ziost I can see Madalore in the Network in Windows Explorer.
However, on Mandalore, it says I'm in a homegroup, but there are no PC's in the homegroup. And Mandalore cannot see Ziost in the Network section of Windows Explorer.
I thought it could be the default firewall settings. But on both machines the firewall settings are identical.
What can I be missing that would allow Ziost to see (and even map a network drive) everything on Mandalore, but then not vice versa? Mandalore is my main, newer PC, so I'm trying to keep it relativly clean and device free. My older PC is Ziost, so I have all my printers and external USB HDD on it.
I have included some pictures to help aide in the troubleshooting. It's almost 2am est, so I apologize if this is a little confusing. I'll be able to check back and respond from work tomorrow.

My computer is running Windows 7 build 7100
My Brother's computer is aswell
We are both connected wirelessly to our Router/Modem (Livebox), and we are both connected to the same Homegroup (i finally managed to get them show up in Explorer), and we are both connected to WORKGROUP, as is my Dad (Vista) and our other PC (XP, wired to livebox for printer sharing).
So, i was trying to get the "Play To" feature in WMP to work with my brother and my computer, but it doesnt seem to work.
a) On my computer i can't select "Allow Remote control of my player" though i can on my Bro"s
b) In "Media Streaming Options" and "Show devices on Local Network"(default i can't see my brothers computer, and on his he can't see mine. (This is obviously the problem), but if i select "Show devices on all networks" we can see each others computers.
For some reason though, we can see our mums Kodak Photo Frame thing, and "Media Programs on this PC..."
c) In WMP on both our computers we cant see each others computers in the HomeGroup even though all media is shared, so we have to go and look in Explorer "Homegroup" - "XXX-PC" - Music

I have Win 7 x64 and originally set up and used one account that was an Admin account, thinking that I had all rights and priveleges as I should have, being the sole user.
Then I started noticing strange things like I was unable to change my Network Sharing to Off. I would select that option only to have it back On.
To my horror, I then realized that my computer had been hacked and a Default account had ALL rights and privileges and limited my account!
I called a computer specialist that reset my computer back to the original settings and am starting over. This time I have two accounts - an admin and regular account. I only work in the regular account now.
When I log in as an Admin to check up on things, I am am once again unable to disable network sharing even though I have a Homegroup.
How can I know if a hacker has taken over that account?

I have searched but not found much with what I want to set up. I currently have a wireless connection to the internet for my PC and Laptop. What I would like to do is setup a private LAN with an old router to use but be able to keep the desktop connected to both WiFi and this LAN.
The only way I have managed to do so so far is by manually setting the IP address for the LAN (disable DHCP, change IP address etc) and assigning the LAN IP address manually to my desktop/laptop, leaving the gateway fields blank. I have noticed that doing this makes my network "Unknown" to Windows 7, which then forces it into Public mode, and disables Homegroup.
Is there a way for me to accomplish what I want?
Is pretty much how I want it to work. The desktop has two NICs, the laptop does not, so I realize the laptop would be a one-or-the-other scenario.

If I change the folder properties accessing a shared folder (say pictures) over my home network, will it alter the folder's properties on the drive on which it resides or just the folder on the machine I am using to access the folder?
I am accessing my pictures folder on my desktop from my laptop from the other side of my house. The pictures and videos folders are set to "general items", the customize tab of the properties on the folder is set to "general items" when I access it from the laptop. If I switch the pictures to "pictures" and videos to "videos" on the laptop, will it alter the folder in the desktop on which the folder resides?
Hope this is clear enough, Thanks for any help, I have a hard time with sharing and permissions.

I have a windows 7 7068 on my main computer and an xp sp3 on my laptop. When I try to access a shared folder on my win 7 machines, from xp, I see only 134 files. When I try to see a folder shared on xp, from win 7 I can see more than 134 files, which means that win 7 must have some sort of limit to number of files in a folder a user over the network can see?
Is there anyway to remove the limit?
