I have a linksys usb600n (v2) using the Windows 7 driver from linksys. It installs and is displayed correctly in Device Manger - BUT it doesn't appear in the Network and Sharing Center as an adapter. This same device and driver were previously working just fine in this system - but I rebuilt the OS (clean install) after testing a number of security products out.
The initial install went fine - no problems that I remember - just plug in the adapter and install the drivers obtained from Linksys (Ver 3.00.01.0). I tried the same thing on the re-build and it looks fine until I go into the Network Center and can't set up wireless networking since the adapter does not appear.
SIW shows TWO (2) linksys USB adapters under Hardware/Network Adapters, but does not show the network adapters in the Network Information section.
Any ideas?

I want to add additional icons to the 'system32pnidui.dll' file. That's where you pick which icon you want to represent the active named network in the Network And Sharing Center. I did a search in this forum on 'network icons' but didn't find anything. Aside from all the permissions restrictions what app can be used and what kind(s) of files will work in W7? I have lots of .png images that I would like to use if they will work. Lenovo T500 W7 Pro-64 Current Updates.

I'm connected wirelessly with no connection issues, but the system tray icon is the one for a LAN connection with a red x on it and not the wireless icon. I noticed if I flip the switch to turn of the networking adapter it reverts to a wireless icon but of course with no connection.

I have installed Windows 7 Manager from Yamicsoft, I made some changes and its removed the network and icon from my tray?? I didnt choose those option in the program, I have checked and the options to show tray icons is enabled - it is in Windows 7 too, I've also tried enabling the network icon through GPEDIT to no avail - also tried following some advice from microsoft website which involved deleting two reg entrys and reloading explorer.exe - still no joy. The network (wifi) still works. I did make a restore point before I ran W7M but would like to try and fix without restoring.

I have a Netgear WN111 USB wireless adaptor on my PC (802.11n NIC). It works fine with my WiFi network, but it always displays the wrong icon in the System Tray when connected. It shows the signal bars greyed out, with a yellow star on top. I have tried a Windows update on the driver, but Windows (7 ultimate) says it's using the latest driver.
Netgear only have a Vista driver for this NIC, tried this to no avail, same problem. I have no other NICs enabled on the box (wired Ethernet port disabled in BIOS and nothing in Device Manager). I have googled this issue and I'm not alone (and it's not just Netgear NICs affected). However all the solutions say remove & re-install the device. Done this, and it's made no difference.

My network icon started displaying a red x about a week ago. now here's the kicker both my Wired and Wireless still work and if I hover the mouse above the icon it tells me I'm conected to my network. Now if I enter the Network and Sharing Center it tells me my access type is internet and my homegroup is Joined and that I have connection to the internet and that I'm connected by Lan but only through the full map does it tell me Lan Connection. Under Connections there is nothing listed.
Also under Change Adapter settings the only item that is currently there is my Bluetooth network. Please help more annoying than anything. And yes the internet works I'm on it right now.

What is the Networking and Sharing Center?
Simply put, the Network and Sharing Center is the control panel from where all networking settings and tasks can be launched in Windows 7.

ecently I have been experiencing this one issue over and over again, my internet would stop working in the middle of me using it. I would try to click on the wireless icon in the notifications bar and nothing would happen so I would then try and go to the Network and Sharing Center through the control panel and when I click on Network and Sharing Center the explorer that I am in freezes.I have looked on here to see if this is a common occurrence but I haven't been able to find anything similar to my issue.

Everything works fine but every time I restart windows it takes a good 3-5 minutes for the 'Network and Sharing Center' icon to "load". Basically it has that circular loading icon hovering over it like it's loading something, and sometimes it has a red cross over it. During this time Firefox won't load and MSE disables real time protection until the network center says I'm connected.

I have recently (After yesterday's Windows Update) gotten a weird problem.
As I log in normally to my computer, the Network Sharing Center doesn't respond, nor does the icon down in the taskbar. I have tried the solutions you can find by googling to fix this - none helped.
That is not everything, every application that wants to use Internet connection freezes as they try to do so.
I got it fixed temporarily by using the System Restore to restore the system to the point before the Windows Updates were applied, but that is not an option anymore, because the restore point is no longer there.
Windows does not let me uninstall updates in Safe Mode, and as Windows Update accesses Internet to do so - it too freezes during a normal login.
Any suggestions?

The network is connected and working fine (well not fine, but will get there).Bat the Network and Sharing Center is not recognizing that it is connected or that there even is a NIC installed.I can surf the net and connect to other computers, but, any program that depends on the information from that specific component Seams to not be able to connect (IE Logmein) and also I'm unable to configure my network as a "work network" so I had to remove the windows firewall so I will be able to connect 2 my SQL server and network shares from other computers on the company's network.Solutions I have already tried:1.Reinstall NIC driver from gigabyte website.2.Install Realtek Ethernet Diagnostic Utility3.Installed FixItCenter from Microsoft.4.Netsh winsock reset (As admin)[CODE]

I have Windows 7 (64 bit) on Samsung RV520 - it's a new laptop, I got it about 5 weeks ago. The problem is that after the computer wakes up from sleep mode, the Internet connection is lost and the Network and Sharing Center is not responding at all. Sometimes it does not detect any networks (neither the cable one nor the wifi connection), sometimes it recognizes them but gives "cannot connect" message, sometimes it says I'm connected, but nothing Internet-related works anyway. Either way, every time my laptop goes into sleep mode and I want to access Internet, I have to restart the system, and well.. this is rather annoying.
It's not about the Intenet provider, since on the roommate's laptop all the connections work perfectly fine.

Windows 7 N&S center is really slow. I have no idea what's causing it.Symptoms not present when I connect to my wireless router. But when I tether (get a connection from a USB device) the N&S Center stops responding for about 10 minutes. At some point, it will come up with the "Public Network?" box.How can I debug this?Even after the network is initialized, the N&S center is still very slow.I assume it's doing some automatic something or other that keeps pinging this, that or the otherThe USB device would serve an internet connection that has a reasonably high latency.Lots of network tools seem to slow down, especially while the connection is configuring itself. This is probably because all of the services involved are interlinked somewhere, and are waiting on the same mutex to be released or something.

I'm having difficulty trying to get my new Windows 7 pc set up to share files across my existing home (wired) network which consists of 1 desktop pc running WinXP and 1 laptop running WinXP.I want the 'C' drive on each of the 3 computers to be shared. I've had the 2 Windows XP computers set up and working like this for several years without a problem but I can't seem to get the 'C' drive on the Windows 7 computer to do the same. All 3 computers have the same workgroup name and none of them require passwords to log on to Windows. There are no problems with the firewalls on any of the machines. On the Windows 7 PC when I right click on the 'C' drive and select the 'Sharing' tab, I have set this up to be shared and when I click on the 'Advanced Sharing' button there is a tick in the 'Share this folder' box, the 'Share name' is 'C'. If I then click on the 'Permissions' button, this shows a 'Group or user name' 'Everyone' and this group has Full Control, Change and Read boxes ticked. As far as I can see there is nothing more I can do.
However from my Windows XP computer, when I go to My Network Places and double click on the icon for the Windows 7 'C' drive, I get the message "\Computername is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions. The network path was not found"I've subsequently set up a sub folder (of the Windows 7 'C' drive) for sharing by right clicking on the folder, choosing 'Share with' and then selecting 'Specific people'. I then set up a group called 'Everyone' with read/write permissions. Now I can navigate to this folder from my 2 WinXP computers.

I disabled my network adapter then restarted and now the adapter is no longer showing up in my network connections. How in the world do I get it back? I have looked at other options (like under the registry which was suggested on a couple of places). I have never seen this happen before. I even reinstalled my drivers and still nothing. How do I enable it again?

On the bottom right of the desktop on Windows 76, the notification icon for internet usually shows the disconnected icon or the no access icon. I'm still connected to the internet though and when I click on the icon, it opens up to show my connection (that is working). Why is it doing this? I've tried googling it, no use. It's not really a big deal, but knowing if I'm connected without having to click on the icon is nice.

Our office has 4 computers set up with Windows 7. One computer has a bunch of shared files and acts like a file server. The other two computer can connect to the \fileserver okay. No problems at all. I can not. I have tried IP address, name, going through work arounds, turning off firewalls, anti-virus, etc. But when I go to it I get the "You do not have permission to access \fileserver. Contact your network administrator to request access. Nobody else has an account set up on any machine, so i fear adding mine to the other three.

I am using the Homegroup feature of Windows 7 right now. I have four computers, configured with one account each, that are members of this HomegroupPC1, PC2, PC3, PC4PC1 configured the Homegroup and has the only shared library that is visible on the Homegroup. PC2, PC3, and PC4 all save documents to the shared Homegroup library on PC1.PC1 is basically acting as a file server.I want to set it up so that only certain accounts on each of the other three (PC2, PC3, PC4) computers can see certain folders in the shared Homegroup library. For instance, I have three folders in the shared Homegroup library located on PC1.Folder2, Folder3, Folder4How do I individually share those folders with only certain computers?
I have tried sharing with only "specific people" but it tells "windows was unable to find (name)". I have tried typing in the name of the computer to share with as well as account names.I have run the Homegroup troubleshooter on all computers and I still cannot share specific folders with specific computers. What would be the best way to share how I desire? Is there a better way than with the Homegroup or am I just doing something wrong?
