View 3 RepliesI have strange problem with my windows 7 ultimate.
My network is okay and no problem on Internet and network from my 2 computer but:
1 - the icon in system tray show broken connection:
2 - in system hardware all network are okay
3 - in network preferences only 1 is present
i try to UN-install all the network, so windows recognized these at startup but nothing..
I've been using Comodo for years, all throughout my XP years until I switched to Windows 7 a couple months ago, but have been getting frustrated with its frequent 100% cpu usage with Windows 7. I currently have the next-to-useless network icon in my tray at the moment, but is there some way to enable an icon for the firewall itself, and maybe shows up/down traffic (like Comodo would do)? I'm basically just looking to have some indicator that the firewall is running for peace of mind, maybe with a bit of functionality as well.

View 2 Replies View RelatedIs there a way to show the Power notification icon in the system tray on a desktop?
In "Turn system icons on or off", the drop-down menu beside Power is grayed out and set to off. After a google search, I found a registry tweak wherein I'm supposed to delete some registry keys that hide notification icons, but these registry keys don't exist.
Keep in mind that I'm on a desktop, which might be why it is disabled. I don't have a UPS so there is no battery to monitor, but I'd like to be able to switch power plans quickly. I might just have to stick with a desktop shortcut.
I have a peculiar issue where I would need to have "Network and Sharing Center" open to be able to see that my my laptop's wireless connection. I would see the signal bar and also see the dreaded red x.Even when I have it open, I can see it refreshing each second; like its losing connection and reestablishing. My internet connection is working and has no issues.
Network and Sharing Center - Open
Network and Sharing Center - Open and refreshed
Network and Sharing Center - Closed
I had some problems with some kind of trojan that disabled System Security. I found a tool, fixed this and now everything runs perfectly and 'safe' but now I have a Red X On Network Icon but it's working properly.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm connected wirelessly with no connection issues, but the system tray icon is the one for a LAN connection with a red x on it and not the wireless icon. I noticed if I flip the switch to turn of the networking adapter it reverts to a wireless icon but of course with no connection.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI have installed Windows 7 Manager from Yamicsoft, I made some changes and its removed the network and icon from my tray?? I didnt choose those option in the program, I have checked and the options to show tray icons is enabled - it is in Windows 7 too, I've also tried enabling the network icon through GPEDIT to no avail - also tried following some advice from microsoft website which involved deleting two reg entrys and reloading explorer.exe - still no joy. The network (wifi) still works. I did make a restore point before I ran W7M but would like to try and fix without restoring.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI currently have the "window screen with the power plug."
I would like to change it to the Wi-fi icon (the three bars).
I have a Netgear WN111 USB wireless adaptor on my PC (802.11n NIC). It works fine with my WiFi network, but it always displays the wrong icon in the System Tray when connected. It shows the signal bars greyed out, with a yellow star on top. I have tried a Windows update on the driver, but Windows (7 ultimate) says it's using the latest driver.
Netgear only have a Vista driver for this NIC, tried this to no avail, same problem. I have no other NICs enabled on the box (wired Ethernet port disabled in BIOS and nothing in Device Manager). I have googled this issue and I'm not alone (and it's not just Netgear NICs affected). However all the solutions say remove & re-install the device. Done this, and it's made no difference.
I am connected, yet I see the not connected icon for wireless and wired internet: I have restarted, cleared icon cash, ended explorer.exe and restarted it. Does not effect usage, just annoying. Does this on every network.
View 1 Replies View RelatedMove Live Messenger Icon to the System Tray in Windows 7. If you've made the switch to Windows 7 and use Windows Live Messenger, you might have noticed the icon stays in the new Taskbar. If you are annoyed by this and would rather see it in the System Tray (notification area), just follow this simple process. Show Messenger Icon in Notification Area. When you close out or minimize Messenger it will reside in the new Taskbar. [URL]. To make it act like it did in previous versions of Windows, right-click on the Windows Live Messenger icon and go to Properties.
In the example above I created an icon on the desktop but you can also do the same thing with the icon in the start menu. Then go to the Compatibility tab and run it in Windows Vista compatibility mode. The icon might be hidden in the notification area though. You just need to customize the Notification Area Icons and have it Show icon and notifications. [URL]. Thats it! Now you have your Messenger icon back where it used to be. [URL].
Saturday, I updated to the Windows 7 SP1. Soon after, I started having this problem with a yellow triangle in the tray icon where the internet access indicator is that says "no internet access". This is a bogus message, but its still annoying. This went away if you reboot, and then later maybe that same day the triangle would reappear. Each time I did still have internet access. I tried several other things like getting rid of IE 9 which I updated to during the same day and maybe a couple of other updates around this time.
Last night (Thur) was to get rid of the SP1 after several failed attempts. I had to do so by using the cmd WUSA etc instead of through the control panel, because it kept getting stuck trying to do the uninstall through the control panel uninstall method. This morning, it did not yet have the yellow triangle, and I will check it again this afternoon after work to make sure it has not come back again.
I found this process in my system tray and I have no clue what it is. I didn't put it there, and I can't identify it in Task Manager's process list. It showed up as far as I know yesterday. I was told by my friend who is a computer person (works at a place) to run combofix, as well as MBAM, and I did.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI just bought a Dell notebook with Windows 7 installed. I had Vista installed in my other computer and so learning Windows 7 is a bit of a challenge. My current problem is, the desktop icon is missing from the (I think it is called) the systems tray. It's the "tray" at the bottom of the Window's screen. It was there when I first started Windows but soon after I noticed that it is missing. Is there any way to get the desktop icon back? It made it much easier to get to the desktop from another program.

View 9 Replies View RelatedIs there a way to hide a program that is running in the system tray, or possibly change the icon of the program in the system tray? I've tried changing the icon of the exe it self, and that did not work. Any other options/programs that allow this? I've tried a few programs to hide programs in system try, but none seem to work correctly on how I want. I want the program to still be running, but I dont want the icon showing up in the tray. I know that you can hide notification area through customizing the task bar, but thats not exactly what I want, unless I can change the icon of the program.

Usually I find the icon in the accessories category & I just re-execute it & repin it to the bottom tray. But after my last recycle of the pc, sticky notes is not even found under the accessories area. I've tried doing a search & a sticky notes file is found, but it cannot be opened. I do like using sticky notes.

I am also inhibited from opening the Playback Devices, Recording Devices, and Sound options that show up with a right click of the icon.As it is extremely frustrating to have to navigate through the Control panel every time I want to change sound levels?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have an HP Desktop computer and I cannot connect to the internet. The problem started with my mouse not working well then my keyboard so we replaced them (that was a month ago). Then strange thing started to happen, a ticking sound started to sound every few minutes. Apart from that, the computer seems well and functions properly. Then one day when I tried to turn it on, the screen looks different. I am referring to what I usually see on my screen whenever I turn it on. My pc is running on windows 7 but right now it looks like its on XP. Plus I cannot connect to the internet. The icon is no longer on the systems tray and when I tried to do the following:
System restore
Network troubleshooting
It wont allow me, when I do system restore it will say A volume shadow copy service component encountered an unexpected error. Check the application event log for more information (0x80042302).
for some reason the Battery, network and volume icons in the notification area are gone! I have windows 7 Ultimate on a HP EliteBook 6930 I've tried to change the setting in gpmc.msc but no luck.

Even though I have connection to the Internet and my wireless Network is active, the exclamation mark and the accompanying message remain. This morning I have been on the computer for three hours, for example, and I just made the screen shot. This condition has existed on a Toshiba laptop since "day one,' a number of months now.
The icon is of no value, if it doesn't change to "connected" when appropriate.
Since about 2-3 days ago I been getting in the icon tray the PC and a big red X icon meaning not connected to the internet but the thing is I am connected if I hover over it, it will say connected. I have no idea what the problem could be I'm just hoping I'm not infected by any virus.

So the notification area in Windows 7 is customizable in that you can select to show all icons and notifications or selectably "Icon and notifications", "Notifications only", "No icon or notifications" for the programs. There is one option missing, showing only icon but not notifications.
How could I work around that? There are some programs I want to show on the notification area for their icon but I do not want to receive the notification bubbles of them and there are no options in the programs themselves to turn them off.
Of course to my logic if there is option to show notifications but no icon, there should also be option to show icon but no notifications. Well, apparently the new name "notification area" is made to resemble this restriction, it's made for the notifications and the icons showing there are extra. But what if the user wants it to behave otherwise?
