View 3 RepliesFor about a month now, I have had this Widows 7 logon annoyance: Sometimes this annoying glitch occurs which won't allow me to login to my account even though I have entered the password correctly; I have to click the Switch User button and then the 'logged in' account. My laptop is set to stay on when I close the lid; I normally ctrl-alt-del and close the lid.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI just built a Jerry-rigged light weight storage computer so I don't have to leave my dev/game comp/volcano on all the time anymore. I also bought a laptop recently as well. What I'd like to do is make the data (on two logical drives to be specific) completely accessible with full privileges to the laptop and this main PC however there are other users on the network that I don't want to share everything with (but still some).I can use PC Anywhere for some things but the end result I'm looking for is a handy couple of links on my desktop to the two raid drives and carry on as though they were still on my comp (and laptop now too), but also not include all users at the same time. (but also have the option to set up sharing for the folders they need access in too)Is this within the capacity of Windows 7? All computers have Win 7 and belong to the same home group.

My malware program won't open normally but when I tried it in safe mode, it didnt find any problems.
I also tried system restore in safe mode and from the boot screen, and it told me system protection was turned off, so I tried to turn it back on and the security tab that was needed to do this was missing. I don't have the windows 7 install disc because it was a factory install. I can't install any new programs and now I keep getting error messages saying I may have counterfeit software. In the bottom right corner of the desktop it says "Windows 7 Build 7600 This copy of Windows is not genuine".
I have set up a Windows 7 machine that shares out a hard drive as a network share along with printers to our network. On another computer I was mapping the network drive and accidentally entered the wrong credentials (wrong user name) and choose the remember credentials setting, and it would not let me map the drive.
I tried to go back in and remap the drive again but Windows is remembering the user name/password and I can't map it. I can map the drive from any other computer just fine. Does anyone know how to make Windows forget the credentials so I can map the drive?
Here's the issue:The boot time on the Dell box (XPS 430 Core 2 Quad - 8GB Ram - Radeon 4000x series) was virtually instantaneous from the time I hit enter on the password screen till I see the desktop. However, the new box...Intel Core i7-3770K 3.50 GHz 8MB Cache/Gigabyte GA-Z77X-UD5H Motherboard/VisionTek 900339 Radeon HD 6850 Video Card - 1024MB, GDDR5, PCI-Express 2.0/Seagate Barracuda 3.5" 1TB 7200 rpm 64 mb cache/16 GB Dual Channel DDR3 PNY SDRAM at 1067MHz/1333MHz...takes almost 33 seconds from the time I hit enter on the password till I see the desktop! Now here's what really doesn't compute. There is less data in the new install, and the page file is on another hdd, in additon to the 8 core processor with 16 GB of faster ram & an 80% free 1TB HDD.
I've been trying to all sorts of different approaches to try to resolve the 33 second problem:1. Event viewer per this TechRepublic video: TR Dojo: Diagnose slow Windows 7 boot with Event Viewer | TechRepublic (no processes or programsindicated)2. Clean booting per this page: How to perform a clean boot to troubleshoot a problem in Windows Vista or Windows 73. Bios default settings (not many changes anyways)4. Manually checking ALL entries in the Device Manager for driver updates5. Checking all manuf websites for new drivers or windows updates6. Defragging7. Avast full scans and MalwareBytes full scans (always clean) x 58. Blowing out old restore points 9. CCcleaner Registry scrubs10. sfc/verifyonly - no problems foundBut nothing seems to work. Given that a clean boot didn't resolve the issue, I have a feeling it might be a hardware timeout, but I have no idea if that's right, or how to trace it (the stuff I google is way above my head).
I searched the forums but couldn't find anything that directly dealt with my problems so if this has been answered i apologize.I just built my first build and used a Dell OEM windows 7 disc I bought brand new from Software Supply Group. Everything installed fine and works great until a few days ago im getting a message saying this copy of windows is not genuine build 7601. When i enter my product key it says it has been blocked. I know its not a pirated version what can i do. I tried activating it on the phone they also said it was counterfeit . What can i do ? My motherboard by the way is Asrock 970 Extreme 3.

whenever i'm typing a text on this laptop (fujitsu siemens amilo li 1818) the cursor () changes it's position randomly i.e. to: .
it is very frustrating as i need to put the cursor back in it's original place again, due to the fact that it jumps to previously typed text. sometimes it goes back a few words, sometimes it jumps up a few lines. whenever it jumps back, it jumps in between words or randomly in words like you can see on the second image.
it happens alot (the more i type, the faster it occurs again). i am 100% sure that it's not caused by me touching the touchpad while typing, as i've been looking for 10 minutes now while typing and i can't spot myself touching the pad with my hand, finger or anything else. i tried covering the touchpad with random objects such as a sheet of paper or a creditcard but the problem still occurs.
it happens in any program (firefox, internet explorer, microsoft office, notepad,...), even when i'm watching a Internet-video browsing the comments it's scrolling the page up (never scrolls down).

I'm trying to connect to my own Wifi Network and it has WEP encryption (I know I should use WPA but for now, let's say i'm stuck with WEP), Windows 7 keeps prompting me for a user name, password after I already entire my WEP key. WHY??? XP never asked me for that. I tried the admin password for my router, didn't work. What is with this new "User name, password" requirement?
Please help. It's really frustrating. The only way around it is to manually add network. There must be something I'm doing something wrong.
Very often the sound on my system seems to get "locked up" after listening to music (MediaMonkey) or watching a movie (VLC or WMP) and there after when I attempt to play a video or listen to music, the progress bar won't move and videos won't play.
It's as though the resources lock on one program and aren't released. I suspect it might be due to my using an M-audio Audiophile 2496.
The only way to release it is to reboot. When I do so whatever has it locked releases in time to play the closing chime. After reboot the sound works normally - for a while.
Oh yeah, closing the program (MediaMonkey or whatever) doesn't have any effect.
I have a desktop icon for opening CorelPaint Shop Pro Photo XI that has a yellow security sheild on it (not the case for 10 other program shortcuts). Executing the shortcut brings up an "Unknown Publisher" UAC warning. Not a show stopper but annoying as all get out. I have been playing with the Security properties for the shortcut and the exe file to get this to go away but no joy.
Does anyone have a step by step to stop this behavior?
The problem started while playing a game, causing a BSOD. After a restart, I noticed some of my programs just didn't boot up, for example Core Temp. I attempted to manually start Core Temp and received the following error: "The system could not find the environment option that was entered."That problem lead me here: The system could not find the environment option that was entered. - Microsoft Answers Which, obviously, did nothing for me. I tried to create a new user, but when I click the link in the control panel to do so, nothing happens. I then tried to repair my windows installation using my disc, and it said it could not find any problems. After searching some more, I found another solution would be to perform an upgrade to my Windows installation to fix the problems.
I put the disc in, nothing happened so I went to the setup.exe directly and got the same error as above. So I then booted in safe mode, and it loaded. I got excited until it said something like "an error prevented a compliance check from completing"And just to be very clear, my windows 7 is valid, I'd be more than happy to share an image of my newegg receipt or even my box to get that out of the way, as I've seen a lot of flaming towards people who have issues regarding validity. Well that brought me to a thread on this website where someone said to open an elevated command prompt and run sfc /scannow. I tried doing that and got this error: "This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Please install a program, or, if one is already installed create an association in the default programs control panel."
After upgrading to Windows 7 everything worked fine for about 3 months. I had it set to sleep when I close the lid nnd it worked well. But suddenly it began getting pernickity. When I opened the lid, about 15 - 20 seconds later the computer totally froze and I had to reboot. Of course, when reloading I get the message that Windows shut down unexpectedly and a 'solution will be searched' but nothing every happened as far as that goes.I made a new profile but it did the same thing when working in that.At approximately the same time as this began, I lost my 'start menu' list, and although I can 'attach items to the list, upon reboot, they disappear.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI reinstalled windows, and went with AHCI for eSata hot swap. 2 of my 6 drives did not appear in my computer. 1 of them I just assigned a drive letter in DM and it is fine. The other, which was previously working, says it requires initialization, which I did, and assigned a drive letter. I stopped short of performing a format ( to preserve the data) but it is listed as raw and inaccessible.
I am not sure what to do now as I have a raw drive that I cannot access...which a few hours ago had several hundred gigabytes of data. The drive in question is a 1tb seagate 7200.11. The other thing I did was move the drive from a jmicron controller to an intel controller on the MB. All 6 drives are now on the intel controller sata ports.
my computer is freezing up requiring a manual shut down and sometimes restarts by itself. My cpu fan went bad and i just had that replaced. View 1 Replies View RelatedI have been recently experiencing a strange crash that happens on my computer frequently. So far, in the ~10 times it has occured over the last 3 days, it has crashed mostly during my gaming time - until now. I was writing this when it happened again. Basically, all sound starts a loop and nothing works at all. I initially thought it was overheating in my computer so I ran some temp. checks while playing games and nothing in my computer was breaking 75 deg. C, so I ruled that out. I ran anti-spyware and anti-virus - nothing.
The only changes my computer has made since I noticed the crashes are the following: installed a few programs, added 3 400gb hard drives to my computer, and swapped out my PSU from a Kingwin 730w (cheapo) to an Antec HCG-750w, a much nicer version. I doubt it's any of the programs, most are games, and I'm not leaning towards the HDDs since there is no information on them at the moment. Could it have to deal with my power supply? Nothing is overheating, as I stated before, but maybe something isn't fully plugged in? I have no idea.
On a side note - when I added those hard drives, I remember booting up and not getting any boot. I opened my computer back up and I noticed I had bumped the power cord on the boot drive, plugged it back in, and rebooted. Everything went fine from there..

View 1 Replies View RelatedOk, so I am going to try to explain this as thorougly as possible while trying not to sound like an idiot in the process. I am by no means computer savvy so anyone that has any advice will more than likely need to talk to me like a 5th grader. I am ok with that. Since installing a Windows Update about a month ago, my screen will randomly lock up. At times it will clear itself after a couple of seconds and state something to the effect that "display driver amd has stopped working and recovered." Other times it will stay frozen for about 10 minutes and then will start functioning properly again. More often than not though, it will stay frozen indefinitely and require a hard reboot. This happens during mundane activities. No extreme gaming going on. Generally it is while just browsing the net. It tends to happen more often to my wife who uses it during the day to work through a VPN. I don't believe there is any correlation though. I have read multiple forums on the web and have tried several things, from cleaning the registry to uninstalling the driver software and reinstalling it in safe mode. The latter seemed to work last night but today my wife started having the same issue again.
