View 9 RepliesI think I have some kind of malware. I am unable to use many functions on my computer, I always get the same error message "C:windowssystem32 strui.exe. The system could not find the environment option that was entered." I can't open system restore, because I get that same error message. I think its any .exe operations that I cannot use. My malware program won't open normally but when I tried it in safe mode, it didnt find any problems.
I also tried system restore in safe mode and from the boot screen, and it told me system protection was turned off, so I tried to turn it back on and the security tab that was needed to do this was missing. I don't have the windows 7 install disc because it was a factory install. I can't install any new programs and now I keep getting error messages saying I may have counterfeit software. In the bottom right corner of the desktop it says "Windows 7 Build 7600 This copy of Windows is not genuine".
The problem started while playing a game, causing a BSOD. After a restart, I noticed some of my programs just didn't boot up, for example Core Temp. I attempted to manually start Core Temp and received the following error: "The system could not find the environment option that was entered."That problem lead me here: The system could not find the environment option that was entered. - Microsoft Answers Which, obviously, did nothing for me. I tried to create a new user, but when I click the link in the control panel to do so, nothing happens. I then tried to repair my windows installation using my disc, and it said it could not find any problems. After searching some more, I found another solution would be to perform an upgrade to my Windows installation to fix the problems.
I put the disc in, nothing happened so I went to the setup.exe directly and got the same error as above. So I then booted in safe mode, and it loaded. I got excited until it said something like "an error prevented a compliance check from completing"And just to be very clear, my windows 7 is valid, I'd be more than happy to share an image of my newegg receipt or even my box to get that out of the way, as I've seen a lot of flaming towards people who have issues regarding validity. Well that brought me to a thread on this website where someone said to open an elevated command prompt and run sfc /scannow. I tried doing that and got this error: "This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Please install a program, or, if one is already installed create an association in the default programs control panel."
Anyone have trouble connecting to a secured network? I setup WPA security on my network and can't connect even with the key entered. At the moment I can only connect via unsecured, cause I haven't figured how to manually change security type as in Vista. I'm using build 7068 x86.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have set up a Windows 7 machine that shares out a hard drive as a network share along with printers to our network. On another computer I was mapping the network drive and accidentally entered the wrong credentials (wrong user name) and choose the remember credentials setting, and it would not let me map the drive.
I tried to go back in and remap the drive again but Windows is remembering the user name/password and I can't map it. I can map the drive from any other computer just fine. Does anyone know how to make Windows forget the credentials so I can map the drive?
Here's the issue:The boot time on the Dell box (XPS 430 Core 2 Quad - 8GB Ram - Radeon 4000x series) was virtually instantaneous from the time I hit enter on the password screen till I see the desktop. However, the new box...Intel Core i7-3770K 3.50 GHz 8MB Cache/Gigabyte GA-Z77X-UD5H Motherboard/VisionTek 900339 Radeon HD 6850 Video Card - 1024MB, GDDR5, PCI-Express 2.0/Seagate Barracuda 3.5" 1TB 7200 rpm 64 mb cache/16 GB Dual Channel DDR3 PNY SDRAM at 1067MHz/1333MHz...takes almost 33 seconds from the time I hit enter on the password till I see the desktop! Now here's what really doesn't compute. There is less data in the new install, and the page file is on another hdd, in additon to the 8 core processor with 16 GB of faster ram & an 80% free 1TB HDD.
I've been trying to all sorts of different approaches to try to resolve the 33 second problem:1. Event viewer per this TechRepublic video: TR Dojo: Diagnose slow Windows 7 boot with Event Viewer | TechRepublic (no processes or programsindicated)2. Clean booting per this page: How to perform a clean boot to troubleshoot a problem in Windows Vista or Windows 73. Bios default settings (not many changes anyways)4. Manually checking ALL entries in the Device Manager for driver updates5. Checking all manuf websites for new drivers or windows updates6. Defragging7. Avast full scans and MalwareBytes full scans (always clean) x 58. Blowing out old restore points 9. CCcleaner Registry scrubs10. sfc/verifyonly - no problems foundBut nothing seems to work. Given that a clean boot didn't resolve the issue, I have a feeling it might be a hardware timeout, but I have no idea if that's right, or how to trace it (the stuff I google is way above my head).
I searched the forums but couldn't find anything that directly dealt with my problems so if this has been answered i apologize.I just built my first build and used a Dell OEM windows 7 disc I bought brand new from Software Supply Group. Everything installed fine and works great until a few days ago im getting a message saying this copy of windows is not genuine build 7601. When i enter my product key it says it has been blocked. I know its not a pirated version what can i do. I tried activating it on the phone they also said it was counterfeit . What can i do ? My motherboard by the way is Asrock 970 Extreme 3.

whenever i'm typing a text on this laptop (fujitsu siemens amilo li 1818) the cursor () changes it's position randomly i.e. to: .
it is very frustrating as i need to put the cursor back in it's original place again, due to the fact that it jumps to previously typed text. sometimes it goes back a few words, sometimes it jumps up a few lines. whenever it jumps back, it jumps in between words or randomly in words like you can see on the second image.
it happens alot (the more i type, the faster it occurs again). i am 100% sure that it's not caused by me touching the touchpad while typing, as i've been looking for 10 minutes now while typing and i can't spot myself touching the pad with my hand, finger or anything else. i tried covering the touchpad with random objects such as a sheet of paper or a creditcard but the problem still occurs.
it happens in any program (firefox, internet explorer, microsoft office, notepad,...), even when i'm watching a Internet-video browsing the comments it's scrolling the page up (never scrolls down).
The computer is Windows 7 Professional 64-bit edition version 6.1 Build 7601 service pack 1. The computer is not in a domain environment. I believe this may be a security issue however I completed an in-place windows 7 upgrade to try and fix the problem but after all of the windows updates, etc the error remains and appears every time the computer is rebooted..[code] The relevant status code says that the "Object already exists" which I think is far more relevant then some memory issue. Do I have to delete some file or registry entry? Or is it a security issue?
View 1 Replies View RelatedBasically my question is, what's the best way of running a 4/6 screen windows 7 environment?
The detailed question is:-
I've just got a Dell XPS 8000 with a Nvidia GT 220 in it.
I'd like to run at least 4 19 inch screens. On my previous system (XP Pro 64 bit) I added a second PCI graphics card, which allowed me to run the 4 screens.
It's not for gaming, it's for developing, so I just need a lot of desktop real estate, more than 3D rendering power.
(Btw, I went for win 7 pro, due to the XP Pro Virtual machine, allowing me to run the 32bit cisco VPN client I need, in a 64 bit environment).
I installed the old PCI card I had a Nvidia GeForce FX 5200, but this seems to cause an issue with the GT220 card and the device manager reports it's stopped working (error code 43. I've googled it, seems a pretty generic error code, from what I can tell I think it's installing xddm drivers, which is the problem with wddm driver needed). I remove the card it BSOD's windows is unable to repair it, and I have to go back to a system restore point.
I see I have 2 spare PCIe x1 slots and a PCI slot on my motherboard.
Any suggestions?
Ideas I've toyed with are
1. Buy a PCIe x1 graphics card, possibly a quad card(but which one, nvidia or non nvidia)
2. Buy another PCI Graphics card, possibly a quad card( again which one? )
3. Can I spilt the HDMI and DVI outputs to give me 4 screens of 1280x1024. (or even 3 screens)
4. Scrap the GT 220, buy a PCI x16 card, then get another dual PCIe x1 card.(going to be very expensive I think).

View 4 Replies View RelatedI am attempting to write a batch file and I have run into several issues with the Windows 7 command interpreter. But this one has me completely baffled. In testing my batch file, I typed the command at the cmd line. This is my command:
Start /wait /b Robocopy "%USERPROFILE%My Documents" C:\% COMPUTERNAME% /S /E /M /COPYALL /ZB
When I run this command from the prompt it appears that it worked. But the created folder does not appear in the Windows 7 explorer environment. If I try to manually create this folder again, it tells me the folder already exists. If I do a dir of the root of C:, it shows the folder.... but ony in the DOS environment. Yes, I have changed the folder/file views and allowed system and hidden files to be shown.I have searched the other forums and I have seen nothing posted regarding this type of problem.

I recently got a new laptop running Win 7 Pro 64-bit and as part of my initial third-party software installations I inadvertently overwrote the 'Path' environment variable (instead of appending to it). I subsequently tried adding c:windowssystem32; to it but don't know if this is doing anything. I have not managed to find any definitive information on what the Path ev should be on a new Windows 7 64-bit install. The thing is I loaded a batch process which I had on another Win 7 (32-bit) system but when I key the bat filename in cmd.exe (without the extension or double-click it) I get this error:"The syntax of the command is incorrect."If I key the bat filename with the extension, it runs but then stops because it seems not to recognize another program which the bat file calls even though I have the Path ev set for that program.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI originally came to this idea after wondering "Could I install windows on a wireless external hard drive?"But quickly realized that a wireless hard drive probably would not be detected during bios, and needs windows to run.I'm wondering though, if the environment variables of windows could be modified, so that when you run software that uses these variables to store temp data etc, it would be sent to an identical network drive, instead of the directory windows is actually installed on.Can this be achieved with some changes to the registry? And would the changes cause any problems with windows itself?Basically I want to trick windows into thinking that the entire "documents and settings" folder, is on the wireless drive. Not C: (windows installed drive).
