Computer Freezing And Requires A Manual Shutdown?

Oct 20, 2011

my computer is freezing up requiring a manual shut down and sometimes restarts by itself. My cpu fan went bad and i just had that replaced. Sometimes it takes 30-45 min before it acts up but most of the time it does it shortly after i boot it up. I have done a full reformat on the computer, installed windows again and everything.

Freezing With Audio Looping - Requires A Reboot

Jan 28, 2012

I have been recently experiencing a strange crash that happens on my computer frequently. So far, in the ~10 times it has occured over the last 3 days, it has crashed mostly during my gaming time - until now. I was writing this when it happened again. Basically, all sound starts a loop and nothing works at all. I initially thought it was overheating in my computer so I ran some temp. checks while playing games and nothing in my computer was breaking 75 deg. C, so I ruled that out. I ran anti-spyware and anti-virus - nothing.

The only changes my computer has made since I noticed the crashes are the following: installed a few programs, added 3 400gb hard drives to my computer, and swapped out my PSU from a Kingwin 730w (cheapo) to an Antec HCG-750w, a much nicer version. I doubt it's any of the programs, most are games, and I'm not leaning towards the HDDs since there is no information on them at the moment. Could it have to deal with my power supply? Nothing is overheating, as I stated before, but maybe something isn't fully plugged in? I have no idea.

On a side note - when I added those hard drives, I remember booting up and not getting any boot. I opened my computer back up and I noticed I had bumped the power cord on the boot drive, plugged it back in, and rebooted. Everything went fine from there..

Freezing On Shutdown And When Going To Sleep?

Nov 9, 2012

Nearly every time I shut down my computer it goes fine until reaching the ring that says shutting down then the ring freezes and nothing happens. I have to hard boot it every time. When i put it to sleep or hibernation similar thing happens: screen goes black, the hard drive is working, and then nothing changes, everything is still on hard drives and all. I leave it alone for awhile to see if that helps but nothing happens while i leave it. It happens 90% of the time. Computer specs are uploaded with the profile, on that computer icon.

Newly Built Computer Random Freezing And Freezing On Starting Windows 7

Aug 17, 2012

I recently built my first PC three days ago...

Specs:
i7 bloomfield 960 processor
4x4 vengeance ram
crosair hx850 PSU
evga x58 ftw3 mobo
hd 6870 radeon graphics xfx

When I first installed windows it started to work just fine but I soon noticed that it would randomly freeze every 15-30 minutes of use, but not on a particular program or anything. I assumed it was drivers so I installed the latest drivers for my GPU and MOBO and keyboard. It seemed fine again until it started crashing again. I ran a GPU burn test and a CPU burn test it passed both. (I tried runing memtest86+ but it froze at like 12%) Then I tried fixing the registry so I downloaded ccleaner and fixed the registry problems. Freezes continued. I finally decided to re install windows so I did and the problems still continued. I am at a loss of what to do and can't think of anything else.

Computer Crashed Whe Playing Games, Requires Hard Reset

Apr 19, 2012

I can run World of Warcraft and Battlefield 3 at max settings and NOTHING happens. Runs like a dream. However if I play any over games such as Skyrim or the Witcher 2 my computer will completely crash to a black screen and then a weird buzzing noise which lasts 1-2 seconds. It will then require a hard reset.

This crash only happens when I play video games and it seems adjusting the settings doesn't seem to change anything. High or low settings it will still crash. I have ruled out Temperature I think. At it's hottest my GPU will be at about 55C.

My Specs- Operating System:
Windows 2.6.1.7601 (Service Pack 1)
CPU Type:
Intel® Coreā„¢ i7 CPU 960 @ 3.20GHz
CPU Speed:

Windows 7 Adio Service Freezing Shutdown?

Oct 18, 2011

I recently built a new computer. Completely fresh OS (Windows 7 Ultimate x64) installation. Everything went well, installed new drivers and downloaded all Windows updates, but one day i started having complete system freezes when i shutdown or restart my computer. When i give my computer the shutdown command it starts shutting down all my programs and goes to shutting down... screen. "In progress" circle rolls for a while until it freezes and i have to do hard shutdown. In safe mode my computer shuts down and restarts normally. So i started process of elimination. I went through all my processes and discovered that if i disable Windows Audio Service my computer shuts down normally without any problems. If i enable it and try shutting down I get stuck in shutting down screen.

Funny thing is, my audio works perfectly. I have Soundblaster Titanium X-Fi soundcard and i tried reinstalling its drivers, but it didn't seem to affect the problem. My soundcard is hooked to my amplifier through SPDIF. I use Winamp as a music player and i have WASAPI plugin installed to it. WASAPI plugin bypasses the resampling process that Windows Audio Service does, but i always close Winamp manually and the plugin with it before shutting down, so it shouldn't be the problem. I've also disabled the onboard audiochip from bios. The only settings i've done in Windows Audio panel is that i have Line-In listening to SPDIF and i have SPDIF as default output.

When Go To Shutdown Computer / Always Have An Update Icon Attached To Shutdown Key

Apr 16, 2012

I have two windows updates that keep failing. When i go to shutdown my computer I always have an update icon attached to the shutdown key. The download is always 1of1. Then when i reboot, the update icon is still there. I'm thinking since the two updates are failing, it has something to do with the 1of1 update not downloading properly. I went to windows update to check for new updates, and the only one is the two that keep failing. My computer just blue screened on shutdown today, winch got me thinking i really need to fix this.

Any Time Start Application That Requires A Moderate Amount Of Processing / Whole Computer Skips

Sep 18, 2011

Any time I start an application that requires a moderate amount of processing, the whole computer skips. By skips, I mean the audio glitches and makes an annoying sound, the video freezes for a fraction of a second before catching up, etc. I was working on a video editing project last night, for instance, and this problem got really bad then. Now it happens whenever I try to play music through iTunes, or even a video online. So far, I have tried updating video card drivers, checking for updated chipset drivers, checking for possible overheating - nothing has helped. The Computer: I just bought the base components for this computer and received them in the mail less than a week ago. I put it together one night last week, and I noticed this issue as soon as I imported my music and got some working speakers attached. (It's much more noticeable with audio) [code]

Computer Keeps Freezing?

May 27, 2012

I have an old Toshiba Satellite L355-S7905 that was handed down to me back in 2009It gave me some problems beforehand (needed a new OS twice since I got it) but over the past year it's been fine. Suddenly, out of the blue, the OS crashed on me a few days ago.The crash was pretty bad and the OS wouldn't boot anymore. So, I did what any logical person would do; I reformatted my HDD (to ensure no viruses or spyware remained) and attempted to reinstall Win7 Ultimate. After the install, I manually updated all my drivers, and went underway resituating my programs. All was well with the universe, and then it happened. My system froze. One reboot later and it started freezing any time I tried to launch Firefox. Shortly after that, it started freezing whenever I tried launching any program at all. It even froze when I launched the Command Prompt. I've tried everything I can think of, but nothing seems to solve the problem of the CPU spiking then the system locking up. I've tried virus scans, registry cleaner, disk defragenation, and disk clean up

Computer Freezes And Shutdown

Jul 25, 2012

I'm currently stuck in a hell hole, because I really have no idea what is wrong with my machine at this time. Several things I have noticed is that the crashes never happens when I'm playing video games, even high demanding ones. It's weird because it does happen when browsing the internet, and mostly happens when I'm rendering a video.
When the freezing process starts, slowly applications, one by one becomes not responding. I currently have Realtemp, and while the freezing happens, the temp was around 55F, while my TJ max is 105. In my task manager > performance, my cpu usage drops down all the way down to 1% when the freezing happens. And finally even the mouse won't move, forcing me to force shutdown. I think the computer shuts itself down after a while since when coming back home, it's in a POST situations, giving errors like no bootable device, or system fan failure.

Computer Freezing When Start It Normally?

May 21, 2012

i don't know much about computers, but i also can't download in safemode with the tool that was offered by this site so i'm not sure what all i should be includingi have an hp pavilion g7-1219wm notebook with windows 7. maybe about a month ago or a bit longer, the computer froze up while i was watching a movie on netflix. for a few days then, it'd been going slow and freezing momentarily but this time it would freeze for long periods of time and a few times i shut it off by holding down the power button (which i know you aren't supposed to do, stupid me) then when it wouldn't restart, at all.i did a recovery and re-installed most of what was in windows updates (except for two/three which refuse to install) but all of a sudden, it began freezing again. when i attempt to start normally, it seems fine - for under five minutes then everything freezes. i can move the mouse around but that's the only thing i can do. i've been using it fine in safe mode with networking thinking this month, we'd be able to get it fixed but that's not happening and to top it off, it's begun to freeze even in safe mode with networking

New Builded Computer Is Freezing

Aug 2, 2011

I am having issues with my computer freezing. It's not frequent but it and it happens pretty much whenever it wants. I can be rendering a video in Premiere Pro CS5.5 or just downloading something with the system completely idle. I check the Windows Event Logs after every time I reset the machine and there's no errors at the time of the crash. At the time the computer rebooted it says the last system shutdown was unexpected.I ran Memtest86+ 4.2.0 and it came up with no errors. I also ran 3DMark Vantage, I know it's not really a stability test but I wanted to see if it would cause it to freeze, which it didn't. But then I ran Prime95 on a stress test and it causes the machine to freeze after the 640K Self-Test passes everytime I run it.
