Network Stopped Allowing Printer And File Sharing

Dec 31, 2009

I have a home network (Workgroup) that includes an XP-Pro Desktop (PC1), an XP-Pro laptop (PC2), an XP-Home Netbook (PC3), a MAC Leopard laptop (MAC), and Win 7-Pro Desktop (PC4). The network also includes a NAS, a TCP-IP connected printer and a MAC-attached printer.

I am using a Linksys WRT54GS router connected to a cable modem to connect the PC4, the MAC, the NAS, a Viewsonic VS10407 Wireless Access Point, and a Netgear RP614 ver4 router configured as a switch access point.

The PC1 and the TCP-IP printer are hard-wired to the switch access point, and PC2 and PC3 are connected via WIFI.

I had all of the computers save the netbook on a Workgroup and all computers could be seen from all except the MAC. I was able to print on either printer from every machine.

I then added several applications including Adobe Acrobat Standard, ScanSnap Manager, ScanSnap Organizer, MS Office Pro 2007, Thunderbird Mail, etc. and I added any number of Windows updates, Norton Internet Security updates, etc.

I also installed a Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500 Document scanner and I setup the XP-Home Netbook.

Somewhere along the way my Workgroup network went astray. I can still print on both printers from each computer but I cannot see the various computers and I get an error message:

"Workgroup is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions.

The list of servers for this workgroup is not currently available."

I have not been able to determine what went wrong and I am hoping to get some expert assistance here.

Windows 7 Unable To Connect To Network Resources?

Mar 29, 2011

I recently moved from an XP machine to Windows 7 Home premium and I am now unable to connect to network shares, printers, etc at work. This is a laptop that I use both at home and at work and it's not in the domain (neither was the XP machine). On the XP machine I just mapped network drives and printers using the server name and then used my network credentials (domainusername and password). The Windows 7 machine is in the network (it's wired through ethernet) and I can access the internet through our proxy server. When I look under "Network", I see all of the servers and clients on the network, but when I try to connect to one of them, I am prompted for login/password- once I enter these, it says "Logon failure: unknown username or bad password".

File Sharing Across A Home Network - The Network Path Was Not Found"

Aug 9, 2011

I'm having difficulty trying to get my new Windows 7 pc set up to share files across my existing home (wired) network which consists of 1 desktop pc running WinXP and 1 laptop running WinXP.I want the 'C' drive on each of the 3 computers to be shared. I've had the 2 Windows XP computers set up and working like this for several years without a problem but I can't seem to get the 'C' drive on the Windows 7 computer to do the same. All 3 computers have the same workgroup name and none of them require passwords to log on to Windows. There are no problems with the firewalls on any of the machines. On the Windows 7 PC when I right click on the 'C' drive and select the 'Sharing' tab, I have set this up to be shared and when I click on the 'Advanced Sharing' button there is a tick in the 'Share this folder' box, the 'Share name' is 'C'. If I then click on the 'Permissions' button, this shows a 'Group or user name' 'Everyone' and this group has Full Control, Change and Read boxes ticked. As far as I can see there is nothing more I can do.

However from my Windows XP computer, when I go to My Network Places and double click on the icon for the Windows 7 'C' drive, I get the message "\Computername is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions. The network path was not found"I've subsequently set up a sub folder (of the Windows 7 'C' drive) for sharing by right clicking on the folder, choosing 'Share with' and then selecting 'Specific people'. I then set up a group called 'Everyone' with read/write permissions. Now I can navigate to this folder from my 2 WinXP computers.

Disabled Network Adapter, Restarted And Now Not Showing Up In Network And Sharing?

Feb 11, 2012

I disabled my network adapter then restarted and now the adapter is no longer showing up in my network connections. How in the world do I get it back? I have looked at other options (like under the registry which was suggested on a couple of places). I have never seen this happen before. I even reinstalled my drivers and still nothing. How do I enable it again?

Network Adapter Not Shown In Network And Sharing Center

Aug 23, 2009

I have a linksys usb600n (v2) using the Windows 7 driver from linksys. It installs and is displayed correctly in Device Manger - BUT it doesn't appear in the Network and Sharing Center as an adapter. This same device and driver were previously working just fine in this system - but I rebuilt the OS (clean install) after testing a number of security products out.

The initial install went fine - no problems that I remember - just plug in the adapter and install the drivers obtained from Linksys (Ver 3.00.01.0). I tried the same thing on the re-build and it looks fine until I go into the Network Center and can't set up wireless networking since the adapter does not appear.

SIW shows TWO (2) linksys USB adapters under Hardware/Network Adapters, but does not show the network adapters in the Network Information section.

Any ideas?

Network & Sharing Center - How To Add Network Icons

I want to add additional icons to the 'system32pnidui.dll' file. That's where you pick which icon you want to represent the active named network in the Network And Sharing Center. I did a search in this forum on 'network icons' but didn't find anything. Aside from all the permissions restrictions what app can be used and what kind(s) of files will work in W7? I have lots of .png images that I would like to use if they will work. Lenovo T500 W7 Pro-64 Current Updates.

Sharing Printer On XP From Windows 7?

May 10, 2012

ISSUE: Trying to print to a printer with it's drivers installed on an XP computer.I have 6 computers running (not all the time), 3 laptops and 3 desktops. I'll number them for ease of ID.1. Dell Laptop running W2K. Hardwired.2. Gateway Laptop running XP. Wireless.3. HP Laptop running W7 Ultimate. Wireless.4. Desktop ATX running XP similar to a server where I keep the big apps, printer drivers and backups, not used for web surfing. Hardwired.5. Dell 1100 desktop running XP used mostly for surfing and downloads. If I get a virus I just reformat and reload XP. Hardwired.6. Compaq desktop running XP. Hardwired. When I use Window Explorer to look at all the computers on my home LAN, I get the following.Systems: 1, 2, 5 and 6, see all 6 systems, one being itself.System: 4 with the printer drivers sees the other five, but not itself.System: 3 sees 1, 2, 3 (itself), 5 and 6. Does not see #4. On this #4 I have three printers' drivers installed.I can print from 1, 2, 4, 5 and 6 to any of the three printers. But not from #3 which is running W7. I tried adding printer and driver as per plethora of instructions on the web without success. But since it does not see system #4, the printers are not available to choose.

Sharing A Printer Over The Internet?

May 19, 2012

I've spent the last day running in circles trying to find a simple solution. I have two Win 7 machines located a few hundred miles apart. I currently have computer A (Local) connecting to computer B (remote) via UltraVNC. This works perfect except, when printing documents, I need to print to my local printer, which means on my remote machine I need to add a printer that is physically here locally. I've looked at IIS, IPP, Google Cloud drive, another service which costs. I think IPP could be the answer, but I can't find any step-by-step style of instructions out there. I have a limited understanding of this stuff, so really looking for a detailed solution.

HP PSC 1610 Printer Sharing

Oct 1, 2009

i cannot seem to get my Printer sharing ( Using HP PSC 1610 ALL-IN-ONE). My printer is connected through usb on windows xp 32bit and want to share printer on windows 7 x64bit windows vista x32bit.

Ive set up the sharing part on xp and windows 7 side, but i cannot seem to connect it. The problem may be that whenever i click on x64 driver to install ( I click sharing in my printer (HP PSC 1610 ALL-IN-ONE ) and click additional Drivers and tick x64 and click next it prompts me to install the driver using a cd..ive tried windows vista 32bit windows xp 32bit windows 7 x64 bit..no luck).

So i try moving the printer on windows 7. It installs the drivers x64bit one, The version is HP PSC 1600 SERIES VERSION 6.1.7600.16385 installed on 64bit as it says in Administrative Tools > Print Management > Printer servers > Comp name( Local) > Drivers and it says x64 and if i wanna add a driver it still ask me for a cd when i tick x32bit driver.

Ive tried so many methods to connect my printer over lan..Local port etc nothing works.

Can someone give me instructions on how to fix this so i can share printer over my network.

This is the part i get stuck on..when i click on x86 or x64 it ask for driver..so if my printer was ocnnected to windows 7 x64 bit i needed to install x86 so it would work on xp and Vice versa

Printer Sharing Xp And Win7

Nov 30, 2009

I'm a true novice with networking.

For the first time ever, I've put in a Router, and, amazingly, it sems to work.

Have 2 PC's in the same room.

Both are ethernet hard wired to router, as they are all pretty close together.

Old PC runs XP, and has my Printer connected to it via a USB cable.

New PC runs Windows 7

Question. Assuming both PC's are turned On, would love to be able to print from my new Windows 7 PC to the printer (connected to the XP machine)

Now that there is a router, am assuming that this is possible.

Could someone please tell me how to configure the XP machine settings to enable this ?

Same question as to how to configure the new Windows 7 PC to do this ?

Detail would be appreciated, as I'm really not too sharp with this stuff.

Sharing MP540 Printer

Dec 22, 2009

I want to share my MP540 printer on a PC with Windows 7 Home x32 to use it on my other PC with a Windows 7 Pro x64.

The printer seems shared fine on Home x32 but I couldn't able to install it (nothing found when Pro x64 PC try to browse a shared printer on the network).

My network setup has nothing special. A simple router and it's done. Earlier (when both machine has XP x32, there weren't any problem (just clicked on the printer to share, and voila, the other PC found it, no need to change/click/setup etc. anything...

I found an option window on x32 to install some drivers (?) (where you can tick a "x64 ....blabla") but it needs some install disk (maybe .nfo files?) for the printer.

I have move the printer to my x64 PC, plug in it, and install went fine. So, both machine probably has the appropriate drivers...

But now I'm stuck.

Windows 7 File And Printer Sharing?

Jul 21, 2011

Okay I have two computers. They're both running win7 64bit home premium. The laptop seems fine and can file and printer share. So basically I'm trying to share my printer on my desktop pc connected through the usb as so I can print from my laptop. They seem to connect to each other and both are in the same homegroup. But I keep getting the can't connect to printer error. But it works if I do it the opposite way which is connect printer to laptop and network the printer through desktop. So it seems to be the settings or something on my desktop PC.The only folder I can access over the network on my desktop PC is the public folder. All the other folders say "access is denied". So there seems to be going on with my permissions, access, etc from my desktop PC. I already selected the folders I want to share and selected share with homegroup(read/write).

HP Laserjet 2300 Printer Sharing

Nov 28, 2009

I have an HP Laserjet 2300 Series PCL6 printer connected directly to a Windows XP machine. On the same network, I have a new machine running Windows 7. I want to share the printer over the network.

Question: Am I wasting my time trying to get this to work?

FYI, Windows 7 sees the shared printer but when it attempts to connect in the "Add a Printer" dialog, it gives me a "No driver found" alert. I downloaded the (hopefully) appropriate Windows 7 printer driver (*) from the HP site and installed it on my Windows 7 machine, but when I try to connect, I still get "No driver found."

Sharing Printer On Win7 (x64) With Win XP Computer

Aug 29, 2009

Having troubles setting this up.

Windows 7 computer working fine - printer working fine (it's a canon ip5200). On Windows XP machine (SP3), I am trying to access the printer. I've tried this a couple of ways and it fails every time.

1) Drill down to printer via the Add Printer searchj for a network printer action. This eventually will ask me to point to an INF file that I don't have (unpacking Canon's printer driver installer to get to the 'ip5200.inf' file will eventually get me a 'Invalid printer file' error even though I can see that the inf file looks like an inf file.

2) Try to add it as a local printer, pointing to the network path (etworkprinter). That installs OK, but it doesn't work.

3) Try to install a network printer giving it a network path. See #1.

What in the heck am I doing wrong? I cannot get Windows7 to add the Windows XP drivers to it's list so I can install it via the network.
