Source Disk Won't Boot After Aborted Clone Attempt

Nov 15, 2012

I had a perfectly working 250GB SATA HDD that I tried to clone to a 1 TB SATA HDD. I used EASEUS's free disk copy software. The clone said it would tas the one being cloned and not written to. The cloned drive had the data on it, but it was just corrupted because the clone never finished. I tried to get into recovery console from the Windows 7 CD, and it kept sayike about an hour and 20 minutes, and I read that it would be quicker, as all the free space would not need to clone over sector by sector. I aborted so that I could use different software that would quick clone. Anyway, afterwards, neither HDD would boot. The source drive should boot, as all it wang it was the wrong version. Basically the program screwed up both my hard drives.

Finally, I was able to get into a UEFI recovery console that allowed me to see that the cloning program somehow changed my partitions into GPT. The source hard drive is all intact, and I'm pretty sure the only thing that is screwed up is the partition types and perhaps the boot record. Is there a way I can edit the partitions to make them back to normal and bootable again?

Clone MBR Partitioned Boot Disk To GPT Partitioned Disk

Jul 4, 2012

My current hard drive is dying, so claims Windows and Hitachi Drive Fitness Test. I bought a replacement drive 3TB drive which requires GPT partitioning. I have 64 bit windows and a UEFI motherboard, so I know I can use the drive as a boot drive for a brand new installation.

My question is how do I move the entire contents of my old drive to this new drive and keep it bootable?

I asked on other another site and they suggested I first let the Windows installation disk partition the drive GPT correctly for Windows, then copy the contents of the old drive to the new one. However, another person on that site said that that would break all the symlinks (didn't know symlinks played such a crucial role in the OS) and that I should use a cloning utility that knows how to copy NTFS. Was this person off base, or is it impossible to create a bootable copy of a Windows installation by just copying all the files (this would be from live linux of some type, not Windows itself)? If it is impossible, is there a utility that can copy the contents of a partition correctly, without needing to clone the entire partition table? Also, I have no room to make an image of my old drive anywhere.

Finally, does anyone know if clonezilla can copy an mbr partition to a gpt partition automatically, essentially doing exactly what I need, or will it always copy the partition scheme as well?

I just cloned two partitions from a resident HDD to an auxiliary Momentus XL HDD in an enclosure that is connected to the computer via eSATA.Is there a way to compare each cloned partition with its original for integrity? If this were just a file, I'd use a unix/cygwin utility like diff or cmp. However, it is a partition.

Disk Check Accident During BSOD Repair Attempt?

Oct 7, 2012

I have a Lenovo z360 laptop that runs Windows 7 Home Premium x86 on an Intel core i3 processor. When I turned it on last Friday, the Windows logo showed for around 5 minutes then the BSOD flashes. Technical information:UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME 0x000000ED (0x87E0D798, 0xC0000183). I put in a repair disk and chose to use cmd so that I can chkdsk /r C:. After it successfully checked, I decided to also chkdsk D: so I wouldn't need to go past the recovery options menu again. It took around 5 hours before my maid unplugged it while cleaning, so it died while I was eating. I charged it somewhere else when my brother discharged it to use the desktop computer. He said that it said "Deleting index entry from index $0 of ... 25" when it died again. When I booted it again, it still shows the windows logo for 5 minutes but restarts with no blue screen

No Boot: Attempt To Repair, Or Retrieve Data/reformat?

Feb 3, 2013

Dualbooting Ubuntu Lucid and W7 on a home-built box with a WD 500GB SATA HDD. Well, except today, no boot. Have connected the HDD to my spare box to retrieve the ext3 files from the Ubuntu partition, mostly some flac, mp3s, and pngs and jpgs, without success.

Firstly, how can I access those files? My spare box is also running Lucid. Seems that this would be easier, idk.

Secondly, should I attempt to repair? Or is a clean reinstall/reformat/repartition a better alternative?

Boot Error After Clone To New Samsung 830 SSD

Referring to this post [URL]. Just to make sure I'm understanding this correctly, Paragon should work on your computer when this issue is going on? I installed a new Samsung 830 SSD in my ASUS G74SX last night using Norton Ghost and while the clone worked as far as I can tell. I get the same blue screen and when I manually start explorer the drive letter for the SSD is E: rather than C: I think fixing that would remedy the issue but it won't let me change the drive path with the OS in use.

Clone Windows 7 Boot Drive

Aug 9, 2011

I have a hitachi 2tb 5400rpm drive, with my OS installed on a 500GB partition (100gb free). I just got a 1tb samsung spinpoint f3 which i want to use as my boot drive. I have tried 3 methods: 1. Downloaded clonezilla, and used tuxboot to create a bootable flashdrive with clonezilla. I used the i686 image of clonezilla. I made a partition on the samsung drive which is 10GB larger than the boot partition on the hitachi. 2. I used the windows utility to make a back-up image of my bootdrive. I then made a bootable copy of windows 7 live install on a flash drive. Booted off it and tried to restore from that system image. I got an error: The system image restore failed. Error: Error details: The parameter is incorrect.(0x80070057) 3. Same as method 2, but I used a CD instead. This time, i got this error: System image restore to new drive fails. 0x80042414

Clone An Ide Xp Drive To Dual Boot On I5 Laptop

Mar 7, 2012

I have a Sony C series 64 bit laptop. I have a 2.5" IDE drive from my old laptop which has XP.

I was thinking to image Win 7 on my Sony to a cd; so that I have a clean disk. How can I then clone my XP ide drive onto the new laptop drive - which is an Hitachi ATA (mSata?) - so that I will have a dual boot system? Although if the XP works fine, that is what I will use.

I do a sysprep 1st, then use Bart PE. However I believe Bart PE only goes to XP SP3, and I only have the whole drive - with all my docs on it. No installation disk.

Do I need to do a "sysprep"? Is it possible to "slipstream" a whole drive with all the necessary drivers? Will it be an issue if the XP is 32 bit, and my new machine is 64bit?
