View 4 RepliesI have another thread - Selective removal of SP1? - describing how my Windows 7 won't run unpatched vmware - something I need for work - with SP1 installed on my computer.
Wondering if there's some other "clever" way of making vmware run on a Windows 7 machine? Perhaps even by running it in XP compatibility mode?

I've searched the forums for this issues and the common responses was - to go to BOOT Advanced Options and uncheck the maximum memory. The Dominators are fine because they are detected by CPU ID. The MOBO is only showing 4 gb as well. I tried the 12 gb memory modules in a friends computer and it works fine!

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am trying to install Windows 7 Ultimate x64 on my new Kingston 128GB SSDNow V200 (SV200S37A/128G) and Asus M2N32-Sli Deluxe motherboard. The CPU is an AMD Athlon 64 X2 6400+ and I also have connected a Palit 9500GT graphics card via the primary PCI-E slot, PSU is Enermax 485W.I have the whole setup with a traditional hard drive working just fine in Windows XP Professional 32-Bit with SP3, what I am trying to do is switch over to using the new SSD with a fresh install of Win 7 Ult X64.The problem I am having is freezing/hanging when either on "Expanding WIndows Files" at 80% or usually on "Installing Features", either the cursor won't move or the dots next to "Installing Features" stop moving completely.. and I can just leave it for hours and nothing happens.
I have tried so far including combinations of each of these; Installing from DVD drive Installing from USB drive Installing from USB drive with slipstreamed SP1 Using PS/2 keyboard and mouse Installing with only one stick (2GB) of RAM, or two sticks (4GB) of RAM or four sticks (8GB) of RAM, or different pairs (4GB) of RAM Updated motherboard BIOS to latest beta version Swapped graphics card for another PCI-E card Swapped graphics card for a PCI card Installed on another PC.. worked fine on that PC (previous generation motherboard) then swapped to this machine but when Windows 7 has loaded it reboots the PC.. repair doesn't do anything just runs and runs finding nothing Installed Windows XP Professional 32-Bit with SP3 and all fine.. why won't Windows 7 install? Checked firmware of the SSD which is completely up to date Tried all 6/6 SATA ports Tried 4 different SATA cables Tried the SATA RAID port but no luck as driver won't install on Windows 7 installation due to it being "unsigned" I am very confused because surely if the SSD was incompatible with my motherboard then Windows XP Professional 32-Bit with SP3 wouldn't have installed and been working apparently flawlessly?
I have a desktop (IDE/PATA) running Umbutu 12 and our laptop (SATA) craped out but the OS is fine (it the CPU that died.) So I slapped it into a usb case and plugged it into desktop.
with the IDE unplugged it boots to Windows so I know that works. but with the IDE in it boots to Umbutu i have modified the bootloader so there is a choice to boot into one or the other. But when I boot windows I'm getting a loop of "windows is loading files..." then reboots. I know when in the laptop i can get to the user screen but not in the desktop.
I've migrated the drive between laptops before but it doesnt work this way
Summer is coming up and I want to get started on my summer project plans, notably, my compulator case. Last summer, I rebuilt the case, now I'd like to expand further some. My first question I'd like to pose is about fan noise. I currently have two Vantec 92mm Tornadoes running, but on the 5V, the sound of them on 12V is demonic simply put (need a fan controller). My intake fan on the bottom front of my case is inset about three inches.

Having a difficult problem with my internet connection and I still haven't been able to isolate the problem. My ISP was no help at all and I'm stuck with getting constant error 101. Been reading around and still haven't been able to find an answer. So far I've tried the usual troubleshooting from power cycling, resetting, and switching out the modem. I've tried ping and speed tests and everything looks to be fine.I'd have to click a link or refresh several times before I can actually to get to the webpage, though if I were to leave it there I'd get the error 101. It's also affecting my Steam program where the main store page would get 3 different errors. error 101, error -7 and another one i can't seem to remember. It worked fine several days ago, and I've even tried reformatting my hard drive and still no luck. I've checked the proxy thing and tried /flushdns. This is happening across multiple computers so I figured it wasn't just mine. The ISP said that they see no problems on their end and everything looks fine.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a problem with the sound on my board "popping / clicking sound" like when you power on your speakers but it's constantly does that and even when on standby...I will start from the very first day when I built my PC.Well I built my PC from following parts :
Motherboard: ASUS MA578L-M/USB3 PSU: ALPINE 700W
RAM: Corsair XMS3 2x2GB 1600MHz 1.65V
GPU: Gainward nVidia GTX 550Ti 1GB / 192bit Golden Sample (also knows as "GS")
CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition 3.2GHz / 8MB Cache
HEAT-SINK: Coolermaster Vortex Plus CPU Cooler
DVD driver: Pioneer DVR-S19LBK which is LightScribe as well
HDD: Samsung Spinpoint F1 don't know which model exactly but spec. > 1TB / 7200RPM /3Gbps.
From the very beginning I had Windows XP 32bit (and of course all of my 4gigs didn't worked, and also I've been suffering sound delay eg. you've been shot and you see that but you'll hear it in about 2 seconds, so NOT GOOD) then I went on Windows 7 Ultimate 64bits (note that I haven't got a speakers JUST > HEADPHONES) so it solved the problem with RAM's (I can use all of them properly now) and I am happy with that, but it was annoying to be sitting all the time on the headphones, so I bought "Logitech X-530 5.1 speakers BRAND NEW ones. And the story began from that moment. I started to be hearing weird sounds and the sound takes a half of a second like "popping/clicking or beeping" or I don't know how it would be called like"..So I tried to bring whole motherboard back to the shop where I bought them, left it to them..After a couple of days I'm back and got told like "the thermal paste was on cpu's socket and cpu's pins "SOMEHOW" ?!?!?....got told again that I could choose that "Motherboard would be sent to ASUS supplier to clean the socket", but CPU I needed to clean my self but the guy was not too sure about my cpu's life and will it work properly or I don't know.. So it is sent now "the MOTHERBOARD" but I've been told to wait for it for another 28 days to get it back, but I couldn't wait for that much and I bought another one, exactly the same one I got sent but just BRAND NEW ONE. So brought home, CLEANED CPU TO THE CONDITION AS IT WAS NEW, added a bit of thermal paste on the surface of cpu, inserted everything onto they belonged positions "ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING AS IT SHOULD BE" = GOT THE SAME POPPING SOUND.....Well then I tried my friend's exactly the same cpu as I have "AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition etc." = SAME POPPING SOUND..So I'm getting to the conclusion that I need to check "THE RAM MODULES" Cause: NEW MOTHERBOARD SAME CPU *friend's one is doing the same popping sounds as my one (I've even tried my cpu on friend's computer and it goes well just 110% well as it should be")
well at first the screen would freeze, only thing i could do is restart the machine via the switch. Ive updated all the drivers i can, even updated the bios version. But everything i seem to do is making it worse now im having alot of non responsive programme's. Games are freezing up and staying froze for 30+ seconds then work for about 5 minutes and freeze again, sometimes fully stopping
View 1 Replies View RelatedLooking at buying a new PSU as mine is only 375 watts and am adding new components. With a lot of the newer psu's the fan is on the top of the unit and not the back like mine. As I have no way to mount the psu at the top of the case (my case and board are both btx). If I press my finger against the metal case, I can feel a tingling sensation which becomes painful if I hold my finger against it for too long. I've never had this problem before. I tried Googling my problem, and only found this thread: [Solved] Electric current felt all over the case - Power-Supplies-PC-Cases-Case-Mods - CPU-Components, I seem to be having the same problem as him. View 9 Replies View RelatedI was given an case for an HP computer a while back. It seems only one or two years old. It has most of the original case parts within it, along with some wires. Now, a friend of mine has an smaller computer in a Mini-ITX case, and has been looking to upgrade both his power supply and his graphics card. However, most graphics cards don't seem small enough to fit within his case (height wise, at least. He has enough room in both length and width), and there's only a select number of Mini-ITX power supplies on Newegg (and the highest wattage is 400w). Logically, I figured he'd be able to take my extra case and fit everything else in there, but I was unsure if it would fit properly.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI just bought a new computer case for my computer and moved [almost] all of my computer parts into it. It's a smaller case so one of my storage HDDs had to become an external, no big deal. The OS is Windows 7 Professional x64, it was installed on a pair of SATA drives on a RAID-0 array.
Before power on, the only storage devices connected to the computer were those two SATA drives in RAID-0 and a DVD burner. I went into the BIOS setting to make sure the boot order was fine (it would check the DVD burner first and then the RAID-0 array).
The first message that came up was: Reboot and select proper boot device
A little shocked, I disabled the DVD burner and forced the computer to boot strictly from the RAID-0 array. Got the same message.
My heart was racing a little at this point and I booted up the Windows 7 DVD and ran chkdsk /r in the command prompt. But before the command prompt showed up, you would see a list of what operating systems are installed. The list was empty. There's also an 'add drivers...' option which I briefly tried but it seems Windows 7 already had the necessary drivers. IN FACT, I was able to browse through the files in my RAID-0 array via the "browse for driver" window. Everything was there. Anyway, the chkdsk completed and there were no problems. Clearly, my OS was still in the RAID-0 array but it won't boot for some reason.
The next thing I ran the startup recovery tool on the Windows 7 DVD. The report showed that the root cause was an invalid entry in the partition table and apparently the tool repaired it. I rebooted and the Windows 7 DVD's "push any key to boot from DVD..." prompt came up. I ignored it and I got the following message: Missing operating system
I checked BIOS again to make sure my RAID-0 array was still in the boot order which it still was. I also disabled the DVD burner again and rebooted directly into the RAID-0 array. Got the message: Reboot and select proper boot device
It's as if the startup repair tool did nothing at all!
Again, I was still able to browse the files on the array through the repair tools on the Windows 7 DVD. It just won't boot the operating system for some reason. Another thing to note is that the OS install is GPT based, with roughly 100 MB for the "System Reserved" partition and the remains used for the actual OS. Not sure if that matters.
Regardless, I needed this computer running for the work I have to do today so I did a format/re-install overnight. Fortunately it's just my OS/Programs that I lost.
I'm just wondering if anyone ran into the same issue and was able to fix it. I have to install new cables and a new PSU later this week so I might run into the same issue again.
I am running windows 7 on my Toshiba Satellite laptop. I am try to connect a Western Digital 750GB internal SATA disk in an external enclosure via usb. I can find the drive in system management but not in my computer. If I put my pci adapter card in a desktop or tower, and hook the WD drive internally, it shows up right away. How can I get it to work via usb?
View 1 Replies View RelatedEveryday I upload some files to my website and to simplify my website operations, I use the same filename and just upload a file with new information every day. The case of file extensions is of no consequence to Windows 7, but it matters to my website. I want to standardize on one case and it doesn't matter which as long it's the same all the time. I have one app, the snipping tool, which seems to generally make files using uppercase, but I have some existing files that are lower case. I have tried to get rid of the lower case extensions by deleting the file and then recreating it with the same name. When I do, Windows changes the case from upper to lower. If I simply create a brand new file with no previous instances of that file in existence (as far as I know), then the default case is upper. How does one go about converting all existing files of a particular type to a standard file extension case, be it upper or lower.

View 3 Replies View RelatedRecently started having an issue where once windows login screen comes up I can hear beeping coming from my case. Then once I try to login I can hear hard drive try to spin up and system will freeze every time I hear hard drive spin up (every 5-15 seconds) during login. Sometimes this persists, sometimes it goes away within a few minutes and the system runs fine but I can still hear beeping from inside the case. Other times I get either a complete lockup, a BSOD, or the computer restarts itself without any warning.
I don't have any of these issues until I install graphics drivers.
-I've tried testing memory in windows memory diagnostics w/ 4 passes it came back w/ no errors. -I tried a clean install which runs fine until I install graphics drivers(I've tried multiple different versions all have the same issue) -I tried installing a new hard drive but am still having the same issues.
I've tried to listen where the beeping is coming from but I'm having a hard time isolating it. It's fairly short, rapid and somewhat faint.
