I can find the drive in system management but not in my computer. If I put my pci adapter card in a desktop or tower, and hook the WD drive internally, it shows up right away. View 1 Replies View RelatedIs there a way to make windows automatically choose "start windows normally" in the case of hard resets? I have a USB monitor hooked to the system and it does not turn on until Windows loads. but if I hard reset by accident or some other reason I can't see the screen that asks what you want to do, this only can be seen when vga/dvi is connected. I know there is a timer for the start normally, but wanted to know if there was a way to make windows not even have to ask and just know to start normally?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI use an WD external hard drive (1TB) for additional storage and it was working fine with no issues. The small USB connector broke off the board yesterday and I purchased a new enclosure and installed it. Now my computer does not recognize it as a storage device. I have all the data still on the HD and really do not want to loose it. I tried adding a letter for the drive, but it does not show up to change the letter of the drive.

I am eligible for the $14.99 USD upgrade to Windows 8.Will there be an installation disk for Windows 8 available at this price and if not, then how much more will it cost?If not, then how should I ensure that I can easily install Windows 8 after a hard disk crash? View 1 Replies View RelatedGoal: I do not want my computer thinking that there is a Local Disk (I).
Here is a screenshot of my computer
Disks C and D are HARD DRIVE 1
Disk E is HARD DRIVE 2
Disk H is HARD DRIVE 3
Disk I is THE DISK I WANT TO REMOVE and it stems from HARD DRIVE 3
HARD DRIVE 3 = 80GB
I am running on Windows 7 professional, 64but version
"Disk I" was created probably because I installed Windows XP on it a while back (at the time, there was no H partition). After removing it, I could not boot back into my windows 7 because of some missing file. I am assuming that it was looking for a file created by windows XP. So what I did was I unplugged hard drive 3 from my computer, and things were smooth. When I booted back into Windows 7, Local Disk I appeared and I just could not get rid of it. I tried formatting it, but obviously, a dialog box appeared saying windows could not format it (probably because its unplugged). In the windows disk management utility, Drive I did not even appear.
NOW....I plugged that hard drive back in. I deleted the entire partition, so HARD DRIVE 3 turned into unallocated space. I created partition H so I could use for storage, leaving about 20 gigabytes free for an operating system I would like to try out. Disk Management utility shows hard drive 3, with 55GB partition and 20GB unallocated space. Local Disk I is still not represented the disk management utility, but it is still there in My Computer (screenshot above)

with the IDE unplugged it boots to Windows so I know that works. but with the IDE in it boots to Umbutu i have modified the bootloader so there is a choice to boot into one or the other. But when I boot windows I'm getting a loop of "windows is loading files..." then reboots. I know when in the laptop i can get to the user screen but not in the desktop.
I've migrated the drive between laptops before but it doesnt work this way
Summer is coming up and I want to get started on my summer project plans, notably, my compulator case. Last summer, I rebuilt the case, now I'd like to expand further some. My first question I'd like to pose is about fan noise. I currently have two Vantec 92mm Tornadoes running, but on the 5V, the sound of them on 12V is demonic simply put (need a fan controller). My intake fan on the bottom front of my case is inset about three inches.

Having a difficult problem with my internet connection and I still haven't been able to isolate the problem. My ISP was no help at all and I'm stuck with getting constant error 101. Been reading around and still haven't been able to find an answer. So far I've tried the usual troubleshooting from power cycling, resetting, and switching out the modem. I've tried ping and speed tests and everything looks to be fine.I'd have to click a link or refresh several times before I can actually to get to the webpage, though if I were to leave it there I'd get the error 101. It's also affecting my Steam program where the main store page would get 3 different errors. error 101, error -7 and another one i can't seem to remember. It worked fine several days ago, and I've even tried reformatting my hard drive and still no luck. I've checked the proxy thing and tried /flushdns. This is happening across multiple computers so I figured it wasn't just mine. The ISP said that they see no problems on their end and everything looks fine.
