Lost Wireless Network, "Windows Cannot Find Any Networks"

Mar 23, 2008

I'm running Vista Ultimate x64 on an HP Pavilion dv6676us laptop with built-in Wi-Fi. My network is running on a 2Wire 2700HG-D router/modem. Last night, when I rebooted after a Windows update, I had no network. If I open the Network window, it says, "This computer is not connected to a network. Click to connect...". When I click there, then choose "Connect to a network", a window pops up saying, "Windows cannot find any networks". If I click on "View network computers and devices", it just takes me back to the Network window.

In Control Panel, Network and Sharing Center says, "The page failed to load". Windows Help tells me to make sure my network adapter is enabled in Control Panel --> Network Connections. In Network Connections, I see nothing that refers to a network adapter; I assume this is what displays as Wireless Network Connection, which says "Not connected". The context menu gives me choices of Disable and Connect/Disconnect. Selecting Connect/Disconnect doesn't help. Disabling, Enabling, and Connecting tells me again, "Windows cannot find any networks"..........

I went on a trip ad at the hotel my laptop would not detect their wireless network. The hotel had me connect some sort of adapter to my usb port and also had their tech support change some networking settings on my computer. Now when I go to work and plug-in the usb cable to my computer nothing happens (used to connect to the internet).

Belkin Wireless Adapter: Windows Does Not Pick Up Any Networks At All

Sep 17, 2007

It works fine except when I have tried to install my Belkin USB wireless adapter. I went to Belkins site and it told me to download the Ralink drivers, which I did. Nothing. Vista tells me that the device is working properly, but the light on the adapter is not lighting up, and Windows does not pick up any networks at all. I tried the PC with a second, identical adapter to see if it was the device causing the problem, but I have gotten the same response, which lead me to think it was an issue with Vista.

Can't Find Wireless Network

Can't find a network ng for vista. If this is not the proper ng, point me to the proper one. I admit it, I'm not a computer guy. I recently bought a new (Vista Home Premium) PC to replace my XP PC. On the XP PC I had a wireless network I could access with my PDA and laptop from almost anywhere in my house. With the Vista PC I fail constantly. I have read a handful of web articles on how to accomplish this but I apparently am missing a step. The Netgear router is working on the Vista PC. Firewall on the laptop is (when I'm trying to get a connection) disabled. The Network status on the laptop and PDA show a good signal. How do I troubleshoot this?FWIW,'Connect to a Network' on the Vista PC and laptop show 2 networks - one secured and one unsecured. I don't know why. All I want is the secured. Can I uninstall these wireless networks and create a new one? The Vista PC also has a wired?/cabled? network to access the cable modem and NAS. Does this make a difference?

Wireless Router And Vista: No Networks Available

Mar 23, 2008

Just got a new Dell Desktop with wireless card pre-installed. I have an existing wireless router that all three of my other machines (XP) can see and connect to just fine. No matter what I seem to do, the Vista machine tells me there are no networks available. I've tried re-booting, re-freshing the Network list, waiting and re-freshing, turning off various automatic features, etc. Nothing seems to work and I need to connect to the Internet to update the PC with the numerous security patches Vista needs when first
starting up.

Windows Can't Find Any Network

May 2, 2009

I have a dial-up networking connection already set up on my Windows Vista Home Basic machine, which is equipped with Service Pack 1. Yet, when I log on as one particular user, and then click Start > Connect To, my dial-up networking connection does not appear, and the "Connect to a network" window says "Windows can't find any networks" when I am not connected, or "Windows cannot find any additional networks" when I am connected.

At the same time, I find on my desktop a folder named "_hiddenPbk", which, when I open it, contains a file called "rasphone.pbk". I have just found out that this folder, as well as the file associated with it, belongs in the folder called "%APPDATA%MicrosoftNetworkConnectionsPbk". I copied the "_hiddenPbk" folder from my desktop to this folder and restarted my machine, but the effort turns out to be for naught: My dial-up connection still does not appear in the "Connect to a network" window. This quandary is user-wide only, meaning that this predicament only happens when I log on to my Windows Vista machine as user "X" but not as user "Y" or "Z" or any other user.

Connecting A Sony Vaio To Wireless Network: Switch On Wireless Adaptor Capability

Mar 23, 2008

a friend has a new sony vaio with vista home premium installed. For some reason it will not connect to my netgear router wirelessly. I have tried everything. I am however not too hot on Vista as this is my first time with it. The adaptor says its on, but when you interegate it and ask why it wont connect it keeps telling me "switch on wireless adaptor capability". In the network connections it is on, the switch on the front right is swiitched on and the wireless network light on the front is on. The network is fine and working as i have my laptop connected to it. All security is present and entered. It seems to be the computer as it doesnt find any networks when there are loads in the area. Am i missing something exceptionally obvious? Does Vista have another "on" switch for this adaptor?

"cannot Find Networks"

But now, my laptop is not able to find any wireless connection from any router near by; at all. This never happened before. I search Dell Support forum and was unable to find the answer. I checked. Wireless Connection Continually Lost

Apr 25, 2009

I have an HP z6000 laptop with a wireless connection to my home network. I have a Netgear Wireless Firewall Router, Model - WGT624 v3. I have two desktops that are hard wired to the Router. All settings for the Wireless laptop are correct. The problem is that when the laptop is not in use, which can be several days at a time, the wireless connection is lost, and it is almost impossible to restore the connection. I periodically backup the laptop to my external hard drive over the network, backup specific files from the one desktop to the laptop over the network, and need to have access to files on the other desktop via the network. I also need to work on the laptop in other areas of the house, so I need the wireless capability.

This has been going on for several months, and is something that is recent, having been using the laptop wireless with the same hardware for more than 2 years. Once the connection is finally made, it does ok, until the next time I have to shut it down for a few days, and then the connection is lost again. It would not be so bad, but, getting it to reconnect can take hours, if not days. I have it set to automatically detect, so not sure what is not working now

Lost Network Mapping

Apr 19, 2009

I have two laptops and a desktop. The desktop is running Windows XP and the two laptops are running Vista. I have all three on the same network and there is no problem there. I recently had my laptop at a local school and connected to the network there (not sure it is relevant, but I thought I would throw that in there). After I got home, I have been unable to re-connect to my network drives. I tried to remap them, but the other computer, drives, etc, aren't showing up in the My Computer or the Network area, or when I try to map them.

My wife's laptop is having no problems. The drives still show up on hers without a problem and nothing has changed on her computer. So, I know it is the laptop with Vista that is the problem (don't want anyone telling me to download the patch for the XP). I am thinking this is a simple stupid little setting glitch that I am over looking, but I am at my wits end. If memory serves me, it did this before when I had the computer at the same school and I don't remember how I fixed it.

How To Find Wireless Internet Settings?

Jan 29, 2009

In WinXP Home, I could examine the details of my BT Broadband internet connection (single user with USB connection) as follows: Control Panel > Internet Options > Connections tab. Select a connection from the list. Click "Settings"

I then typed all the settings in a text file. So if I lost a connection, I could manually enter all the settings without needing to insert the BT installation CD. I changed to Vista at the same time that I changed to Orange Broadband (4-user wireless). The connection was set up by CD from one laptop. The other laptop just connected itself by magic, using a LAN cable.
