I have a small network of 3 pcs: pc1 (xp) -> lan (cable) -> pc2 (vista) -> wlan -> pc3 (vista) -> internet. I got stuck at pc1->pc2. It's really easy to setup in xp: my networkplace -> setup a home or small office network:
On pc1 choose "This Computer Connects To The Internet Through Another Computer On My Network Or Through A Residential Gateway "
on pc2 choose "This Computer Connects Directly To The Internet ", then choose the wireless card which connect pc2 and pc3.
I just installed vista yesterday, and it drives me crazy. I can't find "setup a home or small office network." I also tried "Allow other network users to connect through this computer's Internet connection" on pc2, but vista combined all the networks, and stop sharing internet between pc2 and pc3.

My internet connection is thwarted when Vista detects Multiple Networks in the Network and Sharing Center. I want to select the "unidentified network" and delete it but there is no option to do this. The ISP is no help. Anyone run across this problem? ENVIRONMENT: Broadband connection direct from the modem. Not using wireless. Only one internet connection. Not on a network. Have not updated to SP1 yet.

When I try to connect to my wireless broadband on my laptop, its showing my network with full signal, but when I click connect, it's telling me I can't? I know my wireless is working because I'm on my desktop PC right now which uses the same connection. Anybody know where it's all gone wrong? I only know the basics when it comes to computers so sorry if this is all a bit vague...

Just got a new Dell Desktop with wireless card pre-installed. I have an existing wireless router that all three of my other machines (XP) can see and connect to just fine. No matter what I seem to do, the Vista machine tells me there are no networks available. I've tried re-booting, re-freshing the Network list, waiting and re-freshing, turning off various automatic features, etc. Nothing seems to work and I need to connect to the Internet to update the PC with the numerous security patches Vista needs when first
starting up.

It works fine except when I have tried to install my Belkin USB wireless adapter. I went to Belkins site and it told me to download the Ralink drivers, which I did. Nothing. Vista tells me that the device is working properly, but the light on the adapter is not lighting up, and Windows does not pick up any networks at all. I tried the PC with a second, identical adapter to see if it was the device causing the problem, but I have gotten the same response, which lead me to think it was an issue with Vista.

i've set my laptop to auto-connect to a wireless network, but it'll ask for identification because it's a secure network. is it possible to automate the filling process too, so that i don't have to type everytime? i have to enter my username, password and another field which i can't rem. >.< there is a check box on the prompt pop up screen which says that the above information can be saved when checked, but it's greyed out, so i couldn't check it.

I went on a trip ad at the hotel my laptop would not detect their wireless network. The hotel had me connect some sort of adapter to my usb port and also had their tech support change some networking settings on my computer. Now when I go to work and plug-in the usb cable to my computer nothing happens (used to connect to the internet).

I have a wired router connected to a combination wired/wireless switch (both are LinkSys and pretty old). The PC in question has a wired connection to the switch. In the Network and Sharing Center, Vista sees two Networks: Network (private) and Unidentified Network (public), but both have the same IP information. Both also say local and internet access, but I cannot connect to the Internet. Disabling one of the active connections (one of the fixes suggested by Windows) causes all network connections to be disabled. I have tried resetting the router and switch, renewing the DHCP lease and resetting the network adapter to no avail. The most frustrating aspect of this problem is that it is intermittent. Sometimes, without apparent reason, the computer will "just work." There is another Vista PC also with a wired connection to the switch that has no trouble connecting to the internet and correctly sees only one network.

I Have An HP Dv5t Pavilion With An Intel Pentium Dual CPU T3200 @ 2.00GHz, My Wireless Internal Network Card Is A "Broadcom 802.11b/g WLAN".I Have Been Using This Laptop For 2 Months With No Problems At All. And Just On Thursday My Norton 60 Trial Ran Out, So Of Course I Deleted It From My Control Panel. And After That, Is When I Started Getting This Problem. I Have Looked Around The Web And Tried A Dozen Different Solutions That Do Not Work For Me. And It Has Been Pissing Me Off So Much To the Point Where I'm About To Format The Hard Drive. I Do Not Wish To Take Such Drastic Measures.

I connect my laptop (Thinkpad X60S on Vista Business) to a WRT54G linksys wireless router and let's say my SSID is HOME.
My problem is this: When I try to connect Vista sees 3 and sometimes 4 networks of the same SSID, e.g. HOME, HOME (2), HOME (3) and HOME (4). It is the same network. Why is this happening and how do I solve it?

I am using a windows Vista 32 bit home premium notebook computer for which the wireless network detection has stopped working. I updated the driver for the built in wireless card with out any results. I also tried a plug in wireless card which windows detected and said was working properly and this did not work either. This leaves me to believe that something is wrong with the OS. I can get on the internet via dialup modem and also by the ethernet connection with a DSL modem. I have been to several hotspots that I know have wifi and no networks show up. All critical windows updates have been installed.

I'm running Vista Ultimate x64 on an HP Pavilion dv6676us laptop with built-in Wi-Fi. My network is running on a 2Wire 2700HG-D router/modem. Last night, when I rebooted after a Windows update, I had no network. If I open the Network window, it says, "This computer is not connected to a network. Click to connect...". When I click there, then choose "Connect to a network", a window pops up saying, "Windows cannot find any networks". If I click on "View network computers and devices", it just takes me back to the Network window.
In Control Panel, Network and Sharing Center says, "The page failed to load". Windows Help tells me to make sure my network adapter is enabled in Control Panel --> Network Connections. In Network Connections, I see nothing that refers to a network adapter; I assume this is what displays as Wireless Network Connection, which says "Not connected". The context menu gives me choices of Disable and Connect/Disconnect. Selecting Connect/Disconnect doesn't help. Disabling, Enabling, and Connecting tells me again, "Windows cannot find any networks"..........

Today my laptop has made over 45 attempts each separated approximately 20-30 seconds to access another laptop in my home wireless network ports ranging from 51806-51956. The report I obtained from zone alarm firewall, Rating: High, Protocol (flags: S) 2/22/2009. I clicked more info on the attempt and zone alarm redirected me to one of their sites that mentions this attempt has blocked access to port 139 which happens to be a common port for windows network file sharing.
I am not sure whether this is actually a legitimate attempt since it was continuous for nearly 1h20m 6:50p-7:30p.

We just purchased two new Vista machines (1 laptop, 1 desktop) for our church office, both running 32 bit Home Premium. I am running an account with (as far as I know) complete admin access. We have a network printer which has its own IP address assigned by the router. All three pieces of hardware run through our WRT54G router. I have tried to install the network printer on both machines. With the laptop, Vista's "Add Printer" wizard found the printer and installed it without a hitch. The laptop can print perfectly fine.
However, the desktop is having several printing issues. First I attached an HP USB printer to it. Vista seemed to install the drivers just fine, but I didn't do a test print to make sure that it worked. A few days later I tried to add the network printer as I did with the laptop, but things started going bad! If I select the option of installing a local USB printer the wizard hangs and tells me its "not responding"............

I have problem with connecting to a network through wireless. I think I got it because I installed a new hd and vista, so my laptop is essentially new. But for some reason, I seem to not be getting any wireless connectivity to the internet. It used to work before my hd broke down, and now, my "new" laptop doesn't seem to know that I have wireless.
The only way I can connect through the internet is by using ethernet and connecting the laptop with my dsl modem.

I recently purchased a Dynex wireless optical mouse for my laptop running vista. after installing the driver and software I can not get the mouse to work. When I physically move the mouse the light on the receiver blinks but the mouse does not move on the screen. I tried plugging the mouse into another system I have running xp and have zero problems. When I open device manager and look under universal serial bus controllers, the standard OpenHCD USB Host Controller says it does not have enough free resources.

My computer no longer recognizes any of my wireless networks. But when I go into "manage wireless networks" all of them are there. I've tried resetting the adapter and command prompts but it says that I am denied/blocked from accessing them.
In my Device Manager the only thing that has a little yellow triangle is a 'Non Plug Non Play' item called npkcrypt. Is there any reason why I can't access the internet other then connecting my laptop directly to it? I'm using an Acer with Windows Vista Home Premium 32bit. Anyone know what's going on?

I've recently installed Vista Business on a new Dell PC. I've had problems installing the wireless adapter but in the end, Vista itself installed drivers for it though now the utility provided with the adapter doesn't work at all. The connection works fine until you try and download large files/use more bandwidth. For example; using a download manager like Flashget to download several files. From then it dwindles straight to 0kbps and then the whole connection dies, disconnects and the router is no longer available, according to Vista and yet the router is running fine with other computers on the network going strong. I've tried installing, updating, reinstalling drivers, altering the power settings and other internet settings to no avail.

I've been having this issue ever since I bought my new tablet pc. I am connected wirelessly to a network here at work. I've never had an issue with any other computer before until this one. I'm using a Vista 64 ultimate and this is my issue. I connect to the wireless network... I can browse the internet just fine. I have a shortcut on my desktop \192.168.1.200location Once I click on that it ask me for my user id and password so I enter and I then get to the network folder. After a few seconds it says Not Responding and I can no longer connect to the network or the internet although I can ping all internet addresses just fine. Disconnecting from the wireless and reconneting does not work... Disabling and reenabling doesn't work either. I have to shut down the pc and restart for it to come back up.

I had a network setup running well, consisting of 3 computers with each one running XP. I replaced my "main" desktop with a new Acer 5100 unit running Vista Premium. It is the only one connected to the router/DSL modem (Westell 327w). Even after reading all the previous posts and responses, I can't get this darned Vista box to see the two XP's that are also on the same network. Only the Windows firewalls (with sharing excepted) are turned on, same workgroup, passwords' use turned off. REGARDLESS OF SHARING SETTINGS, DRIVE PROPERTIES SHOW THAT THE DRIVES are "NOT SHARED." The two XP units show each other but not the Vista box. Vista shows only Vista. 'Bout ready to strip Vista off and reload XP
