Wireless Networks Not Connected

May 15, 2010

When I try to connect to my wireless broadband on my laptop, its showing my network with full signal, but when I click connect, it's telling me I can't? I know my wireless is working because I'm on my desktop PC right now which uses the same connection. Anybody know where it's all gone wrong? I only know the basics when it comes to computers so sorry if this is all a bit vague...

Currently Not Connected To Any Networks

Feb 6, 2009

This is not causing any problems, I just don't know why. I have an i7 on a Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD5, gigabit Linksys switch, Norton 2008 firewall, Vista 32bit, and 3 PCs (Vista, Vista, XP) in a LAN. Vista doesn't seem to think a LAN/switch is a real network? I can see all of the other network PCs, connect to the internet (DSL) thru a switch connected Linksys wireless router, share files, and printers; but it's bugging me.

Wireless Router And Vista: No Networks Available

Mar 23, 2008

Just got a new Dell Desktop with wireless card pre-installed. I have an existing wireless router that all three of my other machines (XP) can see and connect to just fine. No matter what I seem to do, the Vista machine tells me there are no networks available. I've tried re-booting, re-freshing the Network list, waiting and re-freshing, turning off various automatic features, etc. Nothing seems to work and I need to connect to the Internet to update the PC with the numerous security patches Vista needs when first
starting up.

Incorrectly Sees "Multiple Networks" Can't Connected

Mar 23, 2008

I have a wired router connected to a combination wired/wireless switch (both are LinkSys and pretty old). The PC in question has a wired connection to the switch. In the Network and Sharing Center, Vista sees two Networks: Network (private) and Unidentified Network (public), but both have the same IP information. Both also say local and internet access, but I cannot connect to the Internet. Disabling one of the active connections (one of the fixes suggested by Windows) causes all network connections to be disabled. I have tried resetting the router and switch, renewing the DHCP lease and resetting the network adapter to no avail. The most frustrating aspect of this problem is that it is intermittent. Sometimes, without apparent reason, the computer will "just work." There is another Vista PC also with a wired connection to the switch that has no trouble connecting to the internet and correctly sees only one network.

Belkin Wireless Adapter: Windows Does Not Pick Up Any Networks At All

Sep 17, 2007

It works fine except when I have tried to install my Belkin USB wireless adapter. I went to Belkins site and it told me to download the Ralink drivers, which I did. Nothing. Vista tells me that the device is working properly, but the light on the adapter is not lighting up, and Windows does not pick up any networks at all. I tried the PC with a second, identical adapter to see if it was the device causing the problem, but I have gotten the same response, which lead me to think it was an issue with Vista.

Wireless Available But Not Connected

Dec 24, 2007

I went home for the Christmas break and I am trying to get my laptop to connect to the network back at my house. I set up a wireless network through the main computer and have found nothing but problems. The main computer is running XP and I am running Vista. Now, the problem is my computer will detect there is a wireless network available but it will not connect. It let me enter in a password to connect but it tells me there isn't enough strength to connect. This makes no sense due to the fact that it will display 90% network strength.

Wireless Can't Connected

Apr 14, 2009

I'm re-posting this because it is only visible online at the MS website, not on NewsReaders so.... (I'll try again)...I just installed a D-Link DIR-625 router, before, we had a Linksys router with no issues whatsoever. (This is in secure WPA mode, there is no problem in "unsecure" mode) My sons PC has Vista installed. He has a D-Link wireless usb adaptor. Before, with the Linksys router, hookup was as would be expected, find the SSID, click, a prompt for passphrase, sweet. Now what happens is this... I right click the network icon in the taskbar and select "Connect to a network" a list of available networks shows.( as usual) I click our SSID and a different message appears than before, instead of getting the usual prompt for a simple passphrase, I get a "Windows needs more credentials to connect to this network", I click it and then a window appears prompting for...

Username
Password
Domain pass

this is not an option suitable for the usual WPA Personal encryption, first off there is no user name, no domain, its just WPA personal, TKIP,passphrase... what can I do? like I said it connects fine if no encryption is used. and it worked fine Lo these last 2 years with a Linksys WRT54G I'm not very familiar with Vista, I'm an XP man myself (I and my wife have XP, router installed on mine)(My wife has windows XP with a Linksys adaptor and it works fine so I know it is a Vista conflict)

Wireless Can't Connected: 1394 Connections 1-3

I just setup a wireless USB adapter on my sister's PC. It worked fine, until she rebooted. Now she can't get on the internet. The wireless signal is excellent at 100%, but browsers aren't connecting. I looked in Network Connections, and there's 4 networks. 1394 Connections 1-3. Connections 1 & 2 are doing nothing, but 3 is the one showing the wireless connection (and it looks to be working fine). The fourth network is Local Area Connection, which is doing nothing. What can I do to fix this?

Printer Connected To Wireless Router Does Not Print

Mar 23, 2008

i am trying to make a wireless connection from my sony vaio laptop, running vista business, to a printer (canon pixma ip4300) connected via usb to the print server of my wireless router (siemens gigaset SE551). i installed the printer as a 'local' printer on a tcp/ip address, as per the router manual - admittedly, the manual instructions were for winxp.

the problem: the printer comes up in vista as 'offline', cannot be changed to online, and won't print. documents appear in the print queue but do not print out - only sometimes when i restart the computer, the printer prints out a page or two of whatever the last failed job was. the same wireless setup with my old sony xp pro laptop works perfectly, and the printer works when connected to the vista laptop directly via usb cable, so the problem must be vista... i've turned off win defender and win firewall to no avail.

should i install the printer as a network printer? i have tried this but windows couldn't see the printer - it could see the router, but not the printer connected to it. but i've never setup a networked printer before so maybe there is something simple i'm missing.

Lost Wireless Network, "Windows Cannot Find Any Networks"

Mar 23, 2008

I'm running Vista Ultimate x64 on an HP Pavilion dv6676us laptop with built-in Wi-Fi. My network is running on a 2Wire 2700HG-D router/modem. Last night, when I rebooted after a Windows update, I had no network. If I open the Network window, it says, "This computer is not connected to a network. Click to connect...". When I click there, then choose "Connect to a network", a window pops up saying, "Windows cannot find any networks". If I click on "View network computers and devices", it just takes me back to the Network window.

In Control Panel, Network and Sharing Center says, "The page failed to load". Windows Help tells me to make sure my network adapter is enabled in Control Panel --> Network Connections. In Network Connections, I see nothing that refers to a network adapter; I assume this is what displays as Wireless Network Connection, which says "Not connected". The context menu gives me choices of Disable and Connect/Disconnect. Selecting Connect/Disconnect doesn't help. Disabling, Enabling, and Connecting tells me again, "Windows cannot find any networks"..........

Speed: When Using 2 Seperate Networks

Mar 23, 2008

I've encountered an issue with my networking where my 1Gbps LAN has it's speed capped at 54Mbps. I'm using a laptop with a 1Gbps NIC and 54Mbps WIFI adapter. The WIFI is connected to an wireless access point (network 1). The 1Gbps NIC is connected to another network. Both networks are private. The networks are not connected. While transferring between my laptop and a Windows XP box that is only on the 1Gbps network I've noticed the speed stays at a constant 54Mbps during the entire transfer. I'm wondering why the speed of an 1Gbps network is being capped at 54Mbps.

Can't Connect Wirless Networks

Mar 28, 2008

I am having a problem with the finding wireless networks, The problem started that sometimes I was not able to view wireless networks even though the wireless is turned on and sometimes I am not able to see certain networks, however I was able to view the networks sometimes on restarting or at a later time. The problem is that now while I am connected to a wireless network, sometimes it just disconnects and "Connect to a network " views that it can't find any wireless networks (even though my colleague next to me can see them and is still connected) and if i try to troubleshoot it tells me that my wireless device is switched off even though it is still on and if i actually switch it off it is not recognized to be switched off (the color indicator for off and on doesn't change ) The only way that I can connect again is to restart (and sometimes I have to do it more than once before I can see wireless networks again) I am not sure if it is a Vista problem or a hardware problem ...I have a HP Pavilion dv6000

Networks: Server To Perform DNS And DHCP

Jun 1, 2008

We must all realize that Microsoft has it's own direction. We are pretty much not in control of our own computers, nor will we be ever. The issues I have seen, and what you all are seeing is the results of many things. All of which I will not be able to address.

1st You really need to have only Vista machines.. cures all problems..

2nd You really need to have a Server to perform DNS and DHCP, even all of us home users. Gee I wonder why there is now even a Home version of Server.

3rd We really all need to be MSCE's if we are going to have more than one computer on the network.

4th We need artificial inteligence to figure out what the wizards are doing.

If all else fails refer back to 1,2,3,4
