Aug 22, 2009After excessive testing & diagnosing, I've concluded that the following causes my "network connections" to be deleted, and I get a Code-19 (corrupted/missing driver) for my Network Adapters happens if I use WINDOWS help! Here is what happens: For one reason or another, I lose connectivity. I have a fickle ISP and I'm always resetting my cable modem, etc.
1.) I double-click the tray icon for "network," then go to Network & Sharing Center.
2.) Under Network (my actual connection,) I click "view status," then click "Properties."
3.) A "Diagnose" button is available. As soon as I push it, I'm usually given several options: Reset the adapter, Get new IP settings, etc..............
Default Drivers Loaded Hangs During Installation
Apr 13, 2008I've been trying to install Vista Home Premium (clean install from Upgrade media) on my primary desktop for over a week with major issues. Most appear to be driver related on an nVidia board using nForce drivers for the SATA control. I installed using the default drivers that Vista loaded and had to deal with multiple hangs during installation. Finally got it installed only to have it hang during Win Update and blue screen, then fail to boot. Recovery was unsuccessful and so another reinstall was done. Next blue screen ended up with a "Corrupt or missing" error on ci.dll and absolutely no ability to reboot to Windows.
Decided I'd had enough and went to reinstall XP. Now I have issues with the drives being accessible to either XP setup or Vista setup. Tried loading SATA drivers and nothing worked. No drives visible........
2 Network Adapters And Become Default Network Adapter?
Mar 16, 2009One usb ethernet adapter for internet connection through an old router, one for a Linksys Wireless G router hard wired to remote security cameras sums up the problem where one cancels the other out. This is a problem for XP, Vista, and even 7 beta while the primary system still runs XP. The dsl connection is through an old dsl setup using a usb adapter while the Linksys pci adapter card or usb adapter once installed becomes the default network adapter.
The wireless router itself is plugged with the RJ-45 ethernet adapter directly into the main controller/dvr box for live wireless feed to the main XP system or this one as a second means along with direct plug in to a tv set in the room where the main box is located. In XP, Vista, and even the later 7 beta the same problem of running two adapters without conflict is the main question needing a working solution. This thread is intended to tax the most network familar people here.
The landlord runs the main XP system with eventual plans to upgrade to Vista while this system serves as a testing machine a good deal of the time explaining multiple OSs as a rule. The router and adapters are in working order not seeing any defects while canceling the original dsl adapter out when installed. That takes out the online connection in the process.

Jun 24, 2009my challenge is to solve this slimy bsod: error 0x0000007b (it swoops in right when vista is telling me the version of os --after drivers are loaded). I have done a few things, like using vista boot cd to try bootrec.exe (and all it's commands), searching for winload.exe (which hasn't been modified since 2008 by the time stamp), I've done chkdsk /f, and maybe a few other things which right now I can't remember....so If you dare try your hand at the mutant, ooze-breathing bsod I commend you brave one, but I warn you...yes.

Mar 23, 2008I am still trying to get some help for this. In Device Manager, under Network Adapters I get a list of 20 approx items all with yellow triangle warnings (apart from 2). The first ones are Microsoft 6to4 Adapters. Info says drivers are up to date,but I get an error code 31. Details: Message "This device is not working properly because windows cannot load the drivers required for this device" (Code 31). Have checked for solutions, but says there are none. I get similar warnings for the other 20 items shown. What do I do now please? (I am using an Acer laptop, with Vista Ultimate OS)

May 30, 2009Today, I've re-installed Vista about 4 freakin times from scratch. Every time, I have setup my network (not installing any drivers) and download these two apps: VMWARE Workstation 6.5.0 (full version, not pirated, etc), and Alchohol 52%. Every time I install Alcohol 52% and restarted my computer, it would always go into an endless loop, or give me the Blue Screen of Death. On Alchohol's website, it said that it is 100% Vista compatible. I know that it is, because I've installed it on Windows 7 and in Windows Vista (vmware install) before. When I install Ubuntu Linux, however, I get no BSOD's. Alchohol runs perfectly under WINE (hahaha). Vista sucks. 4 times. Called M$ and they said (in other words, obviously), that they don't give a crap what runs under vista.
yes, i've right-clicked, run as admin, etc, all vista sh*** that we need to do to install a program. So, 4 BSOD's in one day. M$. Windows Vista; A life without walls. yeah, right.
Lost Wireless Network, "Windows Cannot Find Any Networks"
Mar 23, 2008I'm running Vista Ultimate x64 on an HP Pavilion dv6676us laptop with built-in Wi-Fi. My network is running on a 2Wire 2700HG-D router/modem. Last night, when I rebooted after a Windows update, I had no network. If I open the Network window, it says, "This computer is not connected to a network. Click to connect...". When I click there, then choose "Connect to a network", a window pops up saying, "Windows cannot find any networks". If I click on "View network computers and devices", it just takes me back to the Network window.
In Control Panel, Network and Sharing Center says, "The page failed to load". Windows Help tells me to make sure my network adapter is enabled in Control Panel --> Network Connections. In Network Connections, I see nothing that refers to a network adapter; I assume this is what displays as Wireless Network Connection, which says "Not connected". The context menu gives me choices of Disable and Connect/Disconnect. Selecting Connect/Disconnect doesn't help. Disabling, Enabling, and Connecting tells me again, "Windows cannot find any networks"..........
Internet Not Working: Network Drivers Missing
Jun 22, 2009i recently updated my window xp to vista and now my internet is not working. i just used to connect my computer straight to the router that is connected to the cable modem and it automatically connects now it doesnt connect at all. i tried connecting it straight to the modem also! but it didnt work at all. vista diagnosed the problem it says network drivers are missing but there are none for cable modems or the router im currently using ( smc7004vbr).

Jun 25, 2008I'm running a workstation w/ 6 hard drives. My 1st O/S on a separate HD is Win 2K. 3 yrs. later I added XP Pro on another HD. Last yr. I added Vista Ult. on a 3rd separate HD. All worked well & after the SCSI initialization I got to choose which of the 3 to use. Foolish me: I decided to load one of the 3 remaining HDs w/ XP Pro so I could use it exclusively for gaming. Now when I power up I still get THREE choices but instead of Win 2K, XP Pro, and Vista, I get XP Pro (new), XP Pro, Win 2K, but Vista is no longer displayed as a boot choice. Any idea what happened and how I can get it re-displayed?

Mar 23, 2008I am trying to Install Windows Vista Ultimate OEM 32-bit on my new build that I recently purchased. I have got to different stages and have had so many errors that I have lost track. I have got the BSOD numerous times and to be honest, I don't know why I decided to buy Vista.
I have got so far to the Hard drive drvers screen before I plugged in my USB memory stick and it stopped responding. After that, I haven't go as far. Sometimes I get a BSOD right after it has finished loading the files explaining to me that it couldn't write to the memory because it was read-protected. I haved also got to the language select screen but it doesn't respond. I've even got as far as the regristration key input (again) and I get a little pop-up box saying all sorts of errors. Is it my system which isn't compatible? (BTW my Vista is legal)
Local Access Only, Unidentified Network: Disabling IPv6, Updating Drivers (there Were No Updates)
Jul 29, 2009I bought a Vista back in 2007 and the internet has been working great until recently. I got a rogue on my laptop and ever since I only get local access. I've been googling this thing for around 3 ~ 4 days now and I've tried just about everything I've come across and nothing seems to be working. It says I'm connected to the router with excellent signal strength but then it says the router isn't connected to the internet and I'm sure that's not the issue because the computer I'm typing this on is connected to the router fine and it's a Vista as well so I'm sure it's not a router-Vista compatibility issue.
I've tried ..
- disabling IPv6
- updating drivers (there were no updates)
- multiple scans
- disabling firewall
- uninstalling norton (with the removal tool download)
- deleting my router profile and trying to connect again
- connect via ethernet cord (doesn't work)
When I do IPCONFIG /ALL, I get .. I've tried manually putting in the IP stuff, but I didn't know the gateway and DNS details so I couldn't really do it.
** I DONT have the reformat disks. When I bought the laptop they didn't provide me with one and when we asked for one they said they'd send us one but never did. Now they're closed (nationally) and I'm not sure as to where I could get one...................
Lost Network Mapping
Apr 19, 2009I have two laptops and a desktop. The desktop is running Windows XP and the two laptops are running Vista. I have all three on the same network and there is no problem there. I recently had my laptop at a local school and connected to the network there (not sure it is relevant, but I thought I would throw that in there). After I got home, I have been unable to re-connect to my network drives. I tried to remap them, but the other computer, drives, etc, aren't showing up in the My Computer or the Network area, or when I try to map them.
My wife's laptop is having no problems. The drives still show up on hers without a problem and nothing has changed on her computer. So, I know it is the laptop with Vista that is the problem (don't want anyone telling me to download the patch for the XP). I am thinking this is a simple stupid little setting glitch that I am over looking, but I am at my wits end. If memory serves me, it did this before when I had the computer at the same school and I don't remember how I fixed it.
Lost Network Connection
Mar 23, 2008Running Vista and can no longer open my Maxtor III external hard drive. It appears as working properly in device manager. My Computer does not show 'G' or 'P' drives any more - the 'G'used to be pick up the USB connection.

Jun 19, 2008I have just installed a TrendNet TE100-P21 Print server to handle a few printers on a small home network. It's a mix of XP and a Vista (Business) machine. The XP machines communicate with the printers fine. However I have a problem with the Vitas machine.
After reading many reports here is as far as I get:-
Add a local printer, first click on "Add a Network,wireless etc. printer". This gets Vista to list/register the print server ports. Cancel, then go to "Add a local printer", Use an existing port, On the dropdown menu the Print server and ports are listed.

Windows Mail Executable Stays Loaded When Program Is Closed

Apr 24, 2009Running under Vista Home Premium SP1. I just loaded Adobe Photoshop Elements 2 (which had been running previously under WinXP with 500MB RAM) into my new PC with 3GB RAM. It would not run and requested that I increase Windows Virtual RAM! Task Manager shows RAM with Total=2939MB, Cached=2080MB, and Free=20MB. My first guess is that the problem has to do with having an administrator and five standard users, four of whom are minimum-user kids and should be removed (along with the kids).

Feb 15, 2008ever since planning on a new pc build i knew at some point that id want to install vista on it. Ive planned to get vista 64 seeing as i have a machine capable of running a 64 bit o/s with ease (when i buy my extra 2gb of ram along with my copy of vista) I have been doing my research on which of my games ill still be able to play & tbh the only ones that im remotely worried about are older than red orchestra so no problems there.

Oct 4, 2005While being satisfied by the cool effects and new interface of Windows Vista Codename Longhorn, many of us testers are what you would call "gamers." The lot of us would like to know if gaming on the default Vista Supplemental drivers would mean loss of graphics quality compared to using up to date drivers on a XP OS. For example, I installed Vista and then installed my trusty game, Battlefield 2. I tried using the new nvidia Vista drivers but the game kept crashing when I start it up. So I reinstalled the Vista Supplemental drivers and it happened to work. Quite interesting. I am able to run the game on default vista drivers and not the nvidia vista drivers. Coming to conclusion, would using the vista drivers result in loss of quality and graphics compared to using up to date drivers on a XP system? Or you can also rephrase it; Would gaming be better on the Vista Beta or XP? Does anyone know if SLI works on Vista?

Jan 23, 2008I have two computers at home, both using XP, both directly connected to the speedtouch modem/router (it only has two network slots). My friend just bought a notebook, an Asus F3K. Since he only got Vista drivers with it, we installed Vista Ultimate. Everything went as planned, and it all works ... but the network connection. At first I connected it using my first computer's cable. It says "local only". Now the fun part ... I went to my second computer and connected the laptop to the network using this computer's cable ... and it suddenly worked fine.
But, even though ... both XP computers run fine and have no network problems, as long as I don't use one of their cables to connect the laptop. It's an Asus F3K as I said, using a RealTek network card. I unticked the IPv6 in the network connection properties, and I followed the "additional information". My friend also tried to connect it at home, but he got "local only" as well. We both use the same internet provider and have the same modem/router. Also, when Vista starts solving the problem it identifies the modem/router to be the problem ... but both modems work fine if we use XP. Using XP on my friend's computer is not an option at the time, since all of the supplied drivers and applications are Vista only.

Is there a way to migrate Hotmail to Windows Mail, or a way to replace Windows Mail with what I had when I was using 32 bit Vista? I had IE 8 with 32 bit and I have IE 8 with 64 bit.

Feb 6, 2009In my XP days I would assign each of my laptop's network adapters (wired and wireless) its own static IP address. I did this to make it easier to manage things like opening certain ports when using the laptop for gaming over the wired connection only.
Now that I have an all Vista home network consisting of a laptop and a desktop both with Vista Home Premium I am running into trouble assigning these static IPs on the laptop. The primary connection is the wireless and i use the wired connection to game or to transfer files across the network. When I go to set the IP on the wired connection I get the message: "Warning: Multiple default gateways are intended to provide redundancy to a single network such as and Intranet or the Internet. They will not function properly when the gateways are on two separate, disjoint networks (such as one on your intranet and one on the Internet).
