With the anytime upgrade to ultimate can I choose between the 32 and 64 bit vista ultimate? I do realize that I would have to do a clean install of the 64 bit OS. I would like to try the 64 bit version but would also like to be able revert back to the 32 bit if the 64 bit doesn't work out. If I can't then the 32 bit version it is as I need to join a domain.........

When I have one of these new schemes selected as my sounds, when I shut down or reboot my pc, I see a brief black screen with red text and something about explorer.exe not respoding or something. It happens with either of these new sound schemes Glass, or Pearl. When I put if back to default, problem goes away. Nice extra MSFT!

I'd rather not spend a couple hundred dollars to do this when I already own Vista Ultimate 32-bit. My computer came with Home Premium and I purchased a Vista Ultimate Upgrade CD (32 bit). Now what I want to know is if I buy the $30 non liscensed Vista Ultimate (64 bit) CD, can I use my Ultimate (32 bit) Activation key to activate it? This would save me around $150. I talked to the Microsoft guys via chat but we just kept going around and around and they never really answered whether or not the Ultimate 64 bit would accept my Ultimate 32 bit upgrade key.

I am have been trying to upgrade to Vista Ultimate 64-bit with no luck. I get it to install the initial files and when it reboots I get the blue screen of death. I have the 32-bit Vista Ultimate installed with no problems whatsoever. I have a Nvidia 780i sli with pentium quad core 3gb and 2 Nvidia 8800 gtx graphics cards. For my ram I have 8gb of ddr2 8500mhz Kingston hyperx.

I have Windows Vista Home Basic with SP1 installed on my computer. I have a copy of a legit retail version of Windows Vista Ultimate Upgrade SP1 DVD-ROM. I want to upgrade my current Vista Home Basic to Vista Ultimate. Sounds simple enough. I have read everywhere on the web and it can upgrade easily as long as you upgrade within Windows Vista and not a reboot installation. Okay, but when I get to a point in the Vista grade process, I CANNOT! During the installation process, when I get to the screen that states, "Which type of installation do you want?" AFTER INPUTTING THE VISTA ULTIMATE KEY CODE ON A PREVIOUS SCREEN, the option should be "Upgrade" ONLY and NOT "Custom (Advanced)" since the key code is set for upgrade option only. I GET THE TOTAL OPPOSITE!!! I only get the option "Custom (Advanced)" and the "Upgrade" option is grayed out. WHAT??? NO "Upgrade" option??? I SHOULD BE GETTING THE "Upgrade" OPTION!!! This does not make any sense!!! It states at the reason at the bottom of this screen, "Upgrade has been disabled. - The upgrade option cannot be started, to upgrade, cancel the installation and then choose to upgrade to a version of Windows that is more recent than the version you are currently running." This does not make any sense, does it??? I should be able to only upgrade since I only have an upgrade disc. I am upgrading from a lower edition of Vista to a higher edition of Vista, therefore I should ALSO have this feature to upgrade enabled too when it knows my CD key is a higher ("upgrade") edition. I have spent several hours searching and read around the web and cannot find my same or similar case scenario. A first time! People who have upgraded between different editions of Vista with either the Windows Anytime Upgrade retail package or (mine) the Windows Vista Ultimate Retail Upgrade box (includes the Windows Anytime Upgrade anyways on it) say it is a breeze! According to the upgrade advisor I have to purchase the same "Ultimate" version in order to just do an upgrade. It says that if I want to install a lower version, I will have to do a clean install. My question is, if I purchase the lower version (Win 7 Professional), do I have to purchase the full version and not the upgrade version? IOW, can I still do a clean install from the upgrade version? If I recall there was a just this work around when Vista was first released. Would this still hold true for Windows 7?

When I was using 32 bit Vista I had all my Hotmail folders, newsgroups, calendar, etc. when I selected the Mail icon. Is there a way to migrate Hotmail to Windows Mail, or a way to replace Windows Mail with what I had when I was using 32 bit Vista? I had IE 8 with 32 bit and I have IE 8 with 64 bit.

These language packs are not Ultimate extras. Some restrictions apply to Vista Starter. Also, new LIPs have been released for the Office 2007 products.

I go to control panel: regional and language options -keyboard and languages-install/uninstall languages remove languages Currently, there are 17 languages (besides my default, English)that need to be uninstalled. I've attempted to uninstall them at once and vista processes each language and says that it fails on all but one language. If I uninstall them individually each language takes the hour and 1/2 to uninstall and I cannot afford to sit with it while it does each one. Can this be done via command line or by script. IF it can, what would the commands be?

I have a Aspire AM5620-E5301A Acer computer. On Acer it has Windows Vista Premium Home. I bought Windows Ultimate software to put on my Acer computer. It starts to load up OK, put in the key number in than next step is. To pick custom install or upgrade install, but upgrade choice is grey out. It is disable from using the upgrade choice, I want to choose to pick. I did not purchase Windows Ultimate through Acer anytime upgrade option. It was a store bought software it was cheaper than Acer price they offer. What is the problem with installing Ultimate with Acer computer?

Windows 7 does almost everything I want except play a few games, which Vista does. The only problem with both Vista Ultimate and Win7 is that neither likes my onboard surround sound, which Linux detected and had it worked perfectly. I've probably formatted and reformatted this drive over 50 times since I got it in December and I still can't figure out what I want on it. I did tri-boot at one point, but it just got to un-organized I had to stop it.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI put in a new 250GB HDD (SATA) as my primary drive. I have two DVD RW (one SATA and one EIDE). I formated and installed a clean version of Vista Ultimate on the 250GB drive using the install tools on the Vista DVD. Restarted the system without issues without the DVD in. Used the User migration tool on the Vista DVD to move the backed up files from my previous install to the clean install.
Now, if I start my computer, it says that the HDD is not a valid boot disk. If I start with the Vista DVD in one of the two DVD drives, it boots into the windows on the C drive without issue. I tried running the Startup Repair from the DVD, and it has not changed it

It's only a service pack, maybe less than a service pack!!!!! Yes it's faster but only switch on and off (computer switch on and switch off ONLY). I was told that it's faster ONLY coz Microsoft made it less secure. I work very well with VISTA Ultimate (it is possible to make it working good: you need a good hardware, surely it needs a good hardware, it's a nonsense to say VISTA doesn't work and it has many problems: I do not have problems of any kind). I do not change, I do not move from Vista, I do not want to pay 319 euro only to have a computer running faster in switch on and off, few seconds. I tried searching this on the forums, but it only related to the old
upgrade disks. I was wondering if its still possible to do a full
install of ultimate from the new upgrade disks. I was also wondering if
its possible to do x64 from the upgrade disk as I'm not sure if it
includes the 64bit disk
I have just purchased the HP m9250F, which comes pre-loaded with Vist HP 64-Bit. I have purchased the Vista Ultimate Upgrade Retail Version.. I have completed ALL updates available for Vista HP. When I tried to Upgrade HP to Ultimate, it would NOT allow me to Upgrade, only to Clean (Not sure if thats the name) install, Upgrade disabled. It suggested that I use a more up to date version and than retry the Upgrade. Not positive if those are the exact words, but 90% correct. What doesn't make sense is that ALL of the updates have been completed and none are pending.So, whats up and how do I fix it? Really don;t want to do a Clean Install, only because I don't know what will or won't work if it done.
