Windows Mail Executable Stays Loaded When Program Is Closed
Apr 19, 2008The executable stays loaded as a process. That process has to be manually dumped before the program can be restarted. Is there a fix for this problem?

View 8 RepliesWhen using Windows Mail, after I try to send an email, it remains in my outbox until I close down the Windows Mail. When I reopen Windows Mail, the message has moved to the sent folder, but is there a way I can send a mail without having to shut-down the program everytime? My status is showing as 'Working Online' and I have tried clicking the 'Send and Receive' but this doesnt resolve the problem.

View 4 Replies View RelatedFor the past few weeks I've been getting episodes of Windows Mail closing and reporting that "Data Execution Prevention has closed Windows Mail". It seems to occur when I'm in the middle of preparing a message - it has never occurred when I clicked "Send/Receive". The problem first occurred a few hours after receiving a message with three PDFs totaling 5 MB in size. When this first occurred I had the current version of NOD32 (3.0.642) running but I turned off email scanning and the problem still happens every few days. On two of the crashes Windows Mail reported it couldn't find a few messages, and some messages were gone from my Inbox, but after deleting one or two such messages I was able to get back all the missing email. Is the best bet that NOD32 corrupted my email files? Are there other possibilities I should be thinking of or testing for? Is there some way to keep things like this from happening without ditching all my old mail?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI do not have Vista, or Windows Mail, or Hotmail, so I'm flying a bit blind here. I have an acquaintance who has Vista, but does all her emailing via Hotmail. Recently, she has had some problems with the Hotmail service, and she has asked me if it is possible for her to change to the mail program that comes with Vista. (Windows Mail?) The snag is, she would like to import the contents of of all her web-based Hotmail folders, (her email messages in other words), and her Hotmail contacts into whatever email program she changes to.
1. Would this be possible with Windows Mail, or does she need to write off all her Hotmail stuff and start again from scratch?
2. If it is not possible with Windows Mail, is it possible with any other email client, such as Thunderbird or similar?
In the Windows 7 test versions released earlier this year, the built-in Windows Mail program was gone, along with Windows Photo Gallery and Windows Movie Maker applications.

I notice that Windows 7 does not include any e-mail program at all, so I was wondering about the future of Windows Mail. Even Windows Live Mail is complicated for us "Old Timers". I guess I would like to see Windows Mail go on forever.

I have a fairly slow broadband connection (1 mbps) but barely good enough for downloading Vista SP2. However, considering efficiency and reliability, would I be better off downloading the standalone installer (using another faster connection elsewhere) and bringing the download on a flash drive to my computer? Is this standalone installer much bigger, containing irrelevant stuff, than what Windows Update would eventually supply me with (since I'm current with all previous updates)?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI recently upgraded to VISTA and discovered I didn't like Windows Mail because of the way the autofill thing works for the addresses. So, someone in this group told me to upgrade to Windows Live Mail. I did that and so far have been very happy with it. Except that, I can't find new stationery for the program. I love using cloudeight stationery and it was working on the windows mail, but not on windows live mail. I emailed and asked them about this and the following is their reply to me. Is this true? Is Windows Live Mail really Hotmail? I look forward to hearing back from someone about this.
View 6 Replies View Relatedusing this Windows Mail program to read messages in the MS bases. Where in the world is the internet files/cache/cookies stored now anyway? I've used the same method in viewing them for quite some time now, but using the same method after getting this new laptop with vista installed isn't showing me the files. I suppose that the files could be being handled differently now, but I'm not sure. So are these files STILL stored/accessed the same way?

It would not run and requested that I increase Windows Virtual RAM! Task Manager shows RAM with Total=2939MB, Cached=2080MB, and Free=20MB. My first guess is that the problem has to do with having an administrator and five standard users, four of whom are minimum-user kids and should be removed (along with the kids).

When I put in a CD and install a program, my Mem usage sometimes goes to 100%, and stays at 100% even when it is finished installing. Everything runs insanely slow, and I usually end up holding the power button to restart (if I click on the start menu to restart, it takes 15-20s for the menu to come up). I say it happens sometimes, because it doesn't always happen. It is hit or miss. It sometimes also happens when doing other tasks (see below). However, when I open up task manager (and display all processes), I do not see any processes that are using an insane amount of memory. Everything looks normal. Also, today I was backing up ~3.5gb of files from my hard drive to my external drive. My memory usage went to 100% and stayed there, just like I mentioned before (had to power off).
Just to get all of the starter questions out of the way:
-This is a fresh install of Vista x64 with SP1 (SP1 is up-to-date)
-I do not have any viruses
-I do not have any spyware
-I have ran memtest for 16 hours just to make sure it wasn't my RAM
-I have no messed with the pagefile
-UAC is enabled
Also, when I run a program like prime95, my memory usage goes to 100%, but when I hit "stop", the mem usage goes back to 30-40% like it should. So things are working okay. I have had this system up since June. It is not a HUGE issue, because most of the time I am not installing anything, but when I do install something, it sometimes requires me to reboot.
sometimes and more than ever its doing it now, when I turn on my computer the screen just stays blank. Most times when I turn it off and on again it will recognize it then work fine, but as of lately it can take 10+ times. When it does this and you turn it off, it does flash the Analog and Digital box in the top left corner, meaning its recognizing it but it still wont work when computer is turned on again. Im thinking the problem is something to do with the Digital/Analog setting on my monitor, or something in the settings?
View 8 Replies View RelatedBack in the days I had time to be a Windows MVP, there were a lot of
questions I knew how to answer, but this wasn't one of them.
We have a Vista machine running Vista Ultimate. It is a Toshiba Tecra.
Within a few minutes of booting up, even in safe mode, the mouse pointer
drifts to one side, usually the right, and stays there. If you leave the
machine alone for a while, the issue goes away, but the moment a user starts
doing anything, the mouse becomes unusable in this way. I have tried exiting
all applications, and meticulously exiting every service whose function I
know is not a core Windows function, without avail. Windows Defender has not
found an issue.
