My son used Windows easy file transfer to shift data from his internal HDD (PC running Vista) to an external HDD before Windows 7 installation on the internal HDD. Windows 7 installation completed OK. Restoration of data from external HDD with easy file transfer appeared to work OK - but he can't find his emails (everything else is good). We know Windows 7 does not contain OE and plan to use Mozilla. Where should Mozilla look to import the emails - we can't findthem. (full path if possible)? Alternatively, is there a free program that will unwrap the MIG file that is still on the external HDD. I am told that easy file transfer does not allow selective data transfer to a user defined destination folder.

I'm using Mozella Firefox on Vista. 90% of my favorites do not load and I cannot delete them either. Have I lost them permanently or can they be restored somehow? If lost forever, how do I delete from the list?

I'm running Vista Ultimate x64 on an HP Pavilion dv6676us laptop with built-in Wi-Fi. My network is running on a 2Wire 2700HG-D router/modem. Last night, when I rebooted after a Windows update, I had no network. If I open the Network window, it says, "This computer is not connected to a network. Click to connect...". When I click there, then choose "Connect to a network", a window pops up saying, "Windows cannot find any networks". If I click on "View network computers and devices", it just takes me back to the Network window.
In Control Panel, Network and Sharing Center says, "The page failed to load". Windows Help tells me to make sure my network adapter is enabled in Control Panel --> Network Connections. In Network Connections, I see nothing that refers to a network adapter; I assume this is what displays as Wireless Network Connection, which says "Not connected". The context menu gives me choices of Disable and Connect/Disconnect. Selecting Connect/Disconnect doesn't help. Disabling, Enabling, and Connecting tells me again, "Windows cannot find any networks"..........

Windows Vista includes a great little utility that allows users to finally make soft and hard file system links in the file system. This can be very useful from a software compatibility standpoint as well as a great way to organize your computer. Unlike a shortcut, a link is at the file system level and can be used to create an alias for a file or folder that is in a different location. For example, you can create a hard link (Directory junction) called c:win that points to c:windowssystem32. After the link is created, you can open up command prompt or explorer and browse to c:win and you will see the contents of c:windowssystem32. This is not a new technology, it has actually been a core Linux and Unix feature for as far as I can remember but it is nice to finally have it in Windows Vista....

Having a few problems with mail. So I located the email store and changed the name of the file to .old This didn't cure the problem so I deleted the new mail file and renamed the old one by taking out the .old bit. Now when I open Mail I have all the emails in the inbox but none of them are available to view in the preview pane.

Vista Home Premium, began getting message that c:users(user name)AppDataRoaming is corrupt and unreadable. Used Dell online technical support. They copied all the files under the username to a backup location, created a new username, and then copied the files back in. Basically copied the directory C:users(user name) to C:users(user name2). Then deleted the user name that wasn't working in the control panel. Looks great except all my wife's emails are now gone - and she had multiple folders with emails stored in them and thousands of deleted emails she referred to. Mad as a hornet!
Is there any way of recovering the deleted email files and then getting them back into Mail? I am trying Pareto Logic Data Recovery Program to search for the directory that was deleted that stores the emails C:users(user name)AppDataLocalMicrosoftWindows MailLocal Folders. So far it is only finding folders with (user name2).I realize now I should have exported all the mail to a backup file before deleting the username, but the tech guy didn't tell me to do that before we deleted the old user name.

I have read that the solution to the error message that says that Windows Mail "can no longer support HTTP" is by installing Windows Live. I did install Windows Live, however, and the error still appears. What else has to be done?

Used to access my Hotmail account using Windows Mail. After re-installing my O/S, Windows Vista Home Premium, I can no longer set this up. When I get to the point where it asks for my e-mail address I input this, click on next, and the message "Windows Mail no longer supports the http servers used by Hotmail.......". I remember this happened when I bought my computer but managed to get round it, but can't remember how. I have a paid subscription to Windows Live Onecare and believe this is something to do with the "paid " subscription referred to on other threads.

my friend's email is thru gmail. she has a links button (looks like chain links) that she uses to provide links to websites *without* showing the website address. it simply highlights a word she has typed and the mail recipient clicks on that word to go to the website. i think several words (a phrase) can be highlighted as well as just one word. so she might say, 'click here for more info' and the word *here* will be highlighted and contains the link. does windows vista mail have this feature? i cannot find it.

It might not be the most popular operating system with civilians, but that?s not stopping the U.S. Department of Defense from embracing Windows Vista.Military IT technicians on Friday will start the process of upgrading about 30,000 personal computers used by Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marine personnel on the Korean peninsula from Windows XP to Windows Vista, according to an official military publication. I guess I must have been blind when I say Vista machines on a USAF base.

My problem is that I can't open IE7 links from within WinMail anymore. I've looked here and elsewhere for a solution ('Windows cannot find 'http -/- html'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again'). From this and other events, I suspect this is a permissions issue.

I'm using Vista SP1. Okay, now to the question: Windows explorer in Vista has a "Favorite Links" panel at the top left. I currently don't see the need for it, and would like to make it go away, so that the folder tree has more space. How do I do that?

I'm having an odd problem when I try to open some links sent in emails. I'm a member of a messageboard and, as such, I receive emails detailing when a reply has been posted. which directs the browser to open the page at the specific post. However, when the link arrives at the browser (I've tried this in both IE7 and firefox with the same result), which just dumps me at the top of a (sometimes very long) page. It happens with any link containing the hash symbol. Moving the hash around in the address results in the link being truncated at the point where the hash is.

My wife's computer is running Windows Vista. The system works fine for almost all purposes. It accesses the Internet successfully through a wireless network card to our home WiFi router. The WiFi connection is fine with a high signal strength. It's connecting to an old DLink 802.11b router using WEP encryption, which is all the router supports. Periodically, on average every few days, she will lose HTTP connectivity. This happens in both IE7 and Firefox 3.08. She can still send and receive email and still use a web browser via HTTPS, but she cannot connect to ordinary web pages on port 80. The problem normally persists until she reboots, at which time connectivity is restored. Two other computers on my home network (one Linux, one XP) are unaffected. They work fine through the same wireless network while my wife's Vista computer is not connecting...............

I want to connect to a Team Foundation Server through HTTP. I am not in the network (local nor VPN) with the server I want to connect to. I use the public IP of the server. From my laptop with XP it can be reached easily - for example when I enter the http://serverIP:9200 in the Internet Explorer, the browser asks me for a password and if I fail to log it shows that the Access is denied. 9200 is a port number.
When I connect a laptop with Vista and do the same, a browser just informs that it cannot display the page. I can't also connect to the server via telnet. The behaviour is the same also when I turn off the firewall on Vista (on XP I do not need to turn off the firewall). What then can be blocking this connection?? Are there any security settings that I should check? There is no problem to connect to the Web server from the same network as this TFS.

Now that MSN mail is no longer HTTP based and is POP3 is there some hope of Windows Mail being fixed so that we can use it with our MSN email? While I realize there is the answer of using Windows Live Mail there are some of us out here that like Windows Mail a whole lot better.

I cannot connect to one website via HTTP or HTTPS - www.discover.com. After installing SP1, I can no longer connect to this one website. I have Zone Alarm along with Vista's built in firewall installed, and there is a firewall build in to the 2 wire DSL router I have. Antivirus is Symantec antivirus 10.2.0.276. Windows defender is also installed. I've diabled all firewalls and antivirus and setup a DMZ on the router and still cannot connect. When I try to connect in IE, which seems to indicate either a DNS or a firewall error. Running Vista's diagnostic tests says that port 80 or 443 is being blocked, but with all firewalls off, I can't imagine by what. I've installed virtual pc and installed xp with sp2 on the virtual pc and that is able to connect through vista to that website.
Via a XP SP2 laptop on the local LAN i'm also able to connect. I've tried to uninstall and reinstall the NIC. The machine has a PCI wireless card and using that it is also not able to connect. I've tired to use my cellular provider for dial-up access and that also did not work. I've tired safe mode with networking and still no luck. Of course all other sites are normal. I've tried resetting IE settings, adding the site to the trusted sites, running with no add-ons, all with no luck. I've messed with the security settings as suggested in some threads and no luck. I've also tried Opera, Firefox, and Safari and none of them can connect either. There is no proxy setup either. I've reset the IP and Winsock ( ipconfig /flushdns, /renew, netsh int ip reset, netsh winsock reset, etc)..........
