I updated my windows xp dell with a VISTA HOME PREMIUM UPGRADE without backing up my old system.I have managed to recover my documents etc but cannot figure out how to retrive my old emails in outlook.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI bought a new HP desktop running Vista, and used a cable to transfer files, contacts, etc. from my old XP machine. Vista's Windows Mail worked fine for a couple of weeks, then suddenly, for no reason, XP's Outlook Express appeared, and Windows Mail disappeared. Every email, including those that I had deleted in XP going back to January '09 showed up; and now when I send an email, it doesn't show up in the "sent" box. I suspect Windows Mail is running in the background, and my sent emails are being saved there. Where is my Windows Mail, and how to I get it to become my default email again? My desktop icon still says "Windows Mail," but when I open it Outlook Express shows up.

When I open emails, and minimise Windows Mail or exit altogether, on my return all the opened emails have gone. They are not in the Deleted folder. They have just vanished.

I can import the email messages just fine, but not my 15 email accounts. I have created a folder and stored this onto the windows vista machine, named: Outlook Express Email Accounts.
When I go to: Tools => Accounts => Import. A box appears that says "Import Internet Account". I select one of the Outlook Express 6's *.iaf files and I constantly get this error: "The import did not complete because an error occurred." What's causing this and how do I fix this frustrating problem.
My email provider is Sky although I have chosen to use Outlook express for years. I have just bought a new laptop and have set up my windows mail account copying the settings from my Outlook account. However, not all emails seem to be coming through to my laptop, when I check my mail through Outlook there are maybe 5 new ones there but only one of those shows in my Windows mail. Then to add to the confusion if I try to access my emails through my Sky account there are some showing there that have not come through to Outlook or Windows.

I have never bothered to install my ols copy of MS Office XP because I only use the word processor and the one that came installed with Vista was perfectly fine. However, about a month ago I had to install Office XP because I had to send some papers to my university tutor and he could only open documents in the .doc format. However, I now find that when I try to send batches of photos with their size reduced through Windows Photo Gallery they are routed through Outlook Express on MS Office XP and there is no way to send them. There is a message bar telling me the mail has not been sent but there is no send tab. I assume this is because I no longer have Outlook Express. I can send them one at a time if I open windows mail and send them as an attachment but that is a bit tedious. My question is: how do I get the photos to route from Photo Gallery through Windows Mail rather than Outlook.

I noticed some inconveniences, perhaps there is a way to change them: In OE, I had my contact list displayed on th left below the folder list. I don't find how to do this with WindowsMail in the View, Layout menu.-With newsgroups, the difference of the icons used to show unread/downloaded or not yet downloaded messages is marginal, you really have to look well until you can see it. In OE, the color was different which made it much easier to notice.
-Contacts are not saved into a .wab file but as own files (which doesn't make sense in my opinion). So no Addressbook and more. The real problem is, that whenever I roght-click on a contact, windows explorer crashes (APPCRASH, Explorer.EXE, 6.0.6001.18000, 47918e5d, MFC42.DLL, 6.6.8063.0, 4791a6f4, c0000005, 00028ce8, 6.0.6001.2.1.0.256.6, 1031, fd00, ea6f5fe8924aaa756324d57f87834160, fd00, ea6f5fe8924aaa756324d57f87834160).-Downloading mails, searching for text into messages, etc take much more time than in OE. Seems that the progress for Send/Receive is deliberately delayed.

Unfortunately, i have several accounts on windows mail, and I have forgotten their passwords. So I exported each account in windows mail, and have saved the internet account settings (in *.iaf files). When I use the import function in OE 6.0 (Tools->accounts->Import), it won't let me import any account settings. I don't remember the passwords of a few of those accounts (which currently work with windows mail), but I need to create such accounts in OE 6.0. Is there a way I can migrate account settings in windows mail to OE 6.0?

I can access the data however, via my new laptop. Since I can?t boot the old drive, I can?t run Outlook Express data (so that I can export the data). The previous drive hard-drive ran XP.
